Don't use this company. My experience was extremely disappointing. The technician spent no more than three minutes looking at our fire pit before handing me a used gas valve key. He acknowledged that the key costs about $20 on Amazon, yet charged me $325 for the visit. Before coming out, I told him on the phone that I thought a $325 service call was excessive. He replied that he would already be in the area and would stop by. Based on that conversation, I did not expect to be charged the full amount. The replacement key he left was old and clearly used. I also felt uncomfortable being pressured to pay on the spot. Had my husband been home, I don't believe the interaction would have unfolded the same way. Rather than argue or create a confrontation, I wrote the check and paid. I understand that service companies need to charge for their time and expertise, but charging $325 for a three-minute visit and a used $20 part did not feel fair. I would give them ten stars if I could. First and foremost, they service pellet stoves! I have a pellet stove and it has been a nightmare finding someone willing to come out and even look at it. I called them a couple of weeks ago and received a call about an hour later. My appointment was scheduled for about a week out, which exceeded my expectations considering this is fireplace busy season. The technician who came out was friendly, knowledgeable, and super fast. Our pellet stove works better than it has in years. We have a gas fireplace that had a weak flame when we turned it on for the first time this season. We called Stan to service and clean our gas fireplace. We set up an appointment for the following day, Stan arrived right on time. He disassembled the fireplace and both inspected and cleaned the entire unit. He reassembled it and fired it up. I called today to schedule an appointment with John, Stan's employee as I said I do not want Stan coming back to my house. Reason why is John did an awesome job however the owner Stan came out to my house the first time to install a fan into my pellet stove. Not only did he install it incorrectly (another employee that came back to my house told me so) but he had me push the stove back into place. He said that he had bad knees or back or something. I told him I just had back surgery and he was like well I can't push it back in. After he left the fan started making noise and it was brand new. I immediately called and they sent John to my house a day or so later. Luckily enough the company let me exchange it even though Stan put it in wrong. After reading the other reviews clearly Stan doesn't know what he is doing. His employee John fixed the mess, but apparently he doesn't work there anymore. Stan has a horrible attitude and not worth wasting your time or money. Clearly by his response below you can see his attitude. I put a stop payment on the check to Stan because he f 'ed up my fan that I just paid $250 for. His employee came back and fixed Stan's mess and I paid him. Then John came back end of season to clean it so there was no denial of service. He is just mad I said I didn't want him working on my stove. Also as I stated I was a month out of surgery and Stan said he couldn't push my stove back and it would have stayed outside of my chimney. He also tried to charge me for the fan. That I BOUGHT from fireside thrift and provided to him !!! Then he was like oh sorry and scratched out the invoice. The guy will say it's one amount and then try to increase the final invoice. Well... I liked everything about the professionalism of this business except the $275 service fee for a 15 minute appt. I was surprised their base fee was so expensive considering that many plumbing and appliance repair companies have under $100 service fees for initial assessments. I knew the risk I was taking in having them come out to see why the gas wasn't turning on. We purchased an older home and I didn't want to risk turning the pilot light on myself and wanted a professional company to come out and take a look. Everything was fine and the technician was done within 15 minutes, most of the appointment was us chit-chatting and him showing me the remote functions. If you choose to go with this company for a larger project I would say the $275 is worth it but for a quick check I find it unreasonable. I feel like this business would be better off charging a lower service fee for these gas checks. read more

Either incompetent or dishonest. Called because pilot light wouldn't stay lit due to a bad thermocouple. He insisted that thermopile should also be replaced and it was about $100 more to replace. Agreed, but he assembled logs incorrectly and the fireplace slowly began to accumulate soot. He seemed very polite and nice but it did feel like a bait and switch when he said it was so much more for the repair than expected based on setting up the appointment. Turns out that mispostioning the logs is the biggest cause of soot. He intentionally positioned the small log over the main burners. It took about a year for soot to get really bad. The fireplace had previously been relatively clean without "help" of a maintenance guy for 10 years. I looked at the problem and reviewed the documentation and saw he intentionally put together the logs incorrectly where the pins didn't align. It's clear he knew what he was doing. If you hire them, buyer beware. You've been warned. They treated me nicely, but ripped me off and set things up so I'd need to call a year or two later for maintenance. He was respectful and nice but I felt like he was trying to scam me or bait and switch performing an unnecessary additional repair and charging much more than 2x the retail price. He offered "free" glowing embers. Don't trust them! My fireplace hasn't been working for the past couple of years. I called a contractor who specializes in fireplace repair, who was referred by a couple of fireplace businesses. He came out, told me that he could it temporarily fix it, but said I would need a brand new fireplace insert, including the mantel, since the the model I had been discontinued. He quoted approximately $10,000 to replace the whole thing. Hence the reason I've been without a fireplace for the past two years. I decided to call Stan's fireplace to see if they would tell me the same thing. I received a call back within an hour and scheduled a technician to come out. John was on time, friendly, and very professional. He found the problem within 5 minutes. I was amazed. He fixed and cleaned the fireplace, and was done with everything in about 15 minutes. It is a rare thing these days to find a business owner with high integrity. I sought the services of Stans Fireplace after another chimney service company recommended I order about $3k of repairs for my chimney and fireplace. Concerned about whether I really needed the repairs, I contacted Stan and explained that I needed a second opinion, but that I couldn't really afford to pay for a second inspection. In addition, I told Stan that if indeed I needed to have those repairs made, I could only afford to pay the costs in installments. Not only did Stan offer to perform the inspection for free, but he said that if the inspection confirmed that the repairs were necessary, he would do so and would also work out a payment plan for me. I was both impressed and very grateful that he was willing to accommodate the awkward circumstances of my situation. And after inspecting my chimney and fireplace, one of Stan's men affirmed that there actually were no issues of significant concern. Stan not only stayed true to his word of not charging me a cent for the inspection, but he also took the time to call me and explain the situation with both the chimney and fireplace. He gave me some assurance that there was nothing for me to be worried about. I was dismayed that another chimney cleaning company would take advantage of my inexperience with fireplaces, but one good thing did come out of this --- I now have the name of an honest company that cares more about customers than the bottom dollar. For as long as I own my house and need fireplace services, Stans Fireplace will be my no. 1 go-to resource. As I've said, it is a rare thing to find a business with integrity. Very disappointed in there service. Stan came in to fix our gas insert fireplace. I told them on the phone that we had the pilot lit, but the fire would not come on. When he arrived he fixed it in two seconds stating that it just wasn't turned to the on position. He stated that it happed all the time. You would think that they would have stated this over the phone. Instead, he said that the cost was $195! I asked if I would at least get a cleaning for that kind of money but he stated, " I'm just the repair man". I have never had this kind of horrible customer service. Our double-sided propane fireplace went off suddenly and then burned very weakly. We call Stan's and made an appointment. Stan arrived on time, listened to the description of the problem, took the fireplace apart, made the necessary adjustments/repairs, put it back together, and tested it. The fireplace works perfectly - better than it ever did before. Faster to ignite, with a much more appealing flame pattern. Stan's price was also very reasonable. We could not be happier. So, this company's rep, Jimmy, promised us 2 things, one in writing. The item in writing was a blower, which was supposed to be in this wood stove when he installed it. It's been 17 days. No call and no blower, which I know isn't going to come. The stove he installed won't stay lit unless the door is kept open a crack And that means we can't leave the room in case of a fire. So now we are spending another $1,000 for a wood stove with a blower. My recommendation?! Avoid this business who not only does't know how to insert a chimney (that's another story) but does not follow through with what they promised and gave me a faulty stove because they couldn't install my stove, which they quoted me on.
