Views from the trail behind Sierra Motel. Worth the stay just to take a walk here every morning.

It's certainly not fancy, but it's a decent enough place to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and they have a large selection of DVDs you can borrow if you're stuck inside for a wild due to inclement weather. The best thing about this motel though is the location. Convenient to a few decent food options, right on the main road. But better than that, you can walk around back and you're right at a beautiful river trail. If you like birds, there are woodpeckers, nutcrackers, sparrows, kingfishers and more to be seen. The list of local wildlife doesn't stop there as there are apparently black bears in the area too - which the folks in the lobby were kind enough to warn us about and remind us to keep our doors lock - not because of human thievery, but rather because the bears have figured out how to open them. This may not be the perfect place for everyone, but we certainly enjoyed our stay.

The best part of Sierra Hotel leaving us on the locomotive!

The people were super nice but...I got bed bug bites from sleeping here for 6 hours. Hard to overcome that.

We returned this past weekend for a 2-day trip for my birthday and brought the whole family (5kids). There are rental villas that are large enough for our family - we stayed in a 3BR that had tons of space to spread out, watch movies in the evenings, enjoy the hottub on the deck. It was right across the parking lot from the clubhouse, which was our favorite part of this weekend. Our family enjoyed the gym, the climbing wall, basketball, pool table, foosball, video games, and of course the pool and the hot tub. The restaurant at the clubhouse was perfect for poolside snacks. The service was amazing - the staff greeted us warmly and helped us enjoy everything there was to offer. We were able to go on a couple of hikes right from our villa. The beautiful golf course made me wish I was a golfer! A wonderful Resort that we can't wait to visit again!

The setting,…read morefacilities, and overall atmosphere are wonderful, which is why my recent experience was so disappointing. We arrived at night during a power outage. There were no lights available in the building, including no visible emergency lighting, and the elevators were not working. Our room was originally on the second floor, but because I have knee problems and cannot easily use stairs, the night staff member was very kind and helped us by finding a room on the ground floor. I truly appreciated her professionalism and willingness to help during a difficult situation. What left a negative impression was the interaction at checkout the next morning. Instead of acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the power outage, I felt as though we were expected to be grateful for being placed in a different room because it happened to be one of the resort's nicer accommodations. To be clear, the room change was necessary because of the resort's power issue, not a special favor. While the property itself remains beautiful, the lack of emergency lighting and the response from the front desk the following morning raise concerns about both guest safety and customer service. Unfortunately, after this experience, I'm not sure I would choose to stay here again. If this was other hotel chain I will be even refunded because the inconveniences!!

My wife had the Justin Cab to drink, with dinner, as I had beer. Excellent choices, as we both had the Pot Roast Special, I had the salad, Caesar, while my wife had the New England Clam Chowder. The meal was exceptional. There was very little fat on the Pot Roast and the Au Gratins, with string beans and zucchini. We had the blackberry pie a la mode and lemon sorbet, with coffee, fresh cup. Service was excellent, and we both walked out, happy and full. Price is excellent as the Chef, has 50+ years of experience with a culinary education . We made another reservation for this Friday, for the Bison Filet Special, before they close, for the season. Cannot wait for Friday...!!!!

I've been to Gold Lake Lodge three years in a row, and plan on continuing to return. Let me tell…read moreyou a bit about what you can expect: The Lodge is set off a couple hundred yards from Gold Lake Highway, nestled in the woods at the trailhead to Round Lake. (You'll see a lot of day-trippers parked at the trailhead -- just hang a right to drive into the Gold Lake Lodge campground.) The campground is made up of three tent cabins, about a dozen small cabins, and the main dining room. Those who stay in the tent cabins will get a slightly more rustic experience: you'll have a full bed and a dresser in the tent, but bathrooms and showers are in separate outhouse-like structures (perfectly clean, hot water, flushable toilets, etc.). Those in cabins will live in luxury with their own bathroom and shower. Both can accommodate 2-3 people depending on how much you like one another, but 2 is probably the right number for most. Prices are substantially cheaper for the tent cabins than the cabin-cabins, but both are reasonable. The price tag includes a full-blown breakfast, snacks for lunch, and a gut-busting dinner. Meals are served family style, and you'll quickly learn the ins and outs about which dishes to order, but everything will leave you full. Steak features prominently on the menu, but there are many other options too. My favorites? The pork loin with "Gold Lake sauce" (whatever that is!) and the Buffalo burger (also, not coincidentally, with "Gold Lake sauce"). For breakfast, you can't miss with the "Gold Lake scramble". (See the pattern?) For dessert, the "szarlotka" -- Polish apple pie -- is the runaway favorite. The lodge is run by the ever-helpful John, and ably staffed by a small gaggle of Polish students, who return year after year and add a little bit of cosmopolitanism to the woods. Perfect for all types, very close to amazing hikes and lakes... pretty hard not to give it 5 stars.

I have waited 16 years to finally get married and was given the green light from my fiance to have the wedding of my dreams. I searched forest wedding and Twenty Mile House was the very first one that came up. I loved that it wasn't too far of a drive away, the all inclusive packages and the accomodation option to stay on site for me and 53 of our guests. We had compared prices to similar venues but found it ridiculous that for the same price, we would only have the venue, tables and chairs at the other places. So with that, Twenty Mile House became the winner. We absolutely loved the vintage cozy look of the homes, the miles and miles of forestation leading up to and within the venue, and the most amazing staff i have ever experienced with. Both Rachel and Ashliegh were absolutely amazing! They both listened and made all of my requests come true. Some had to be compromised, but it didn't change much of my vision. Our bartender Jasper was absolutely amazing and so kind. The lights, the vibe, the music, all of the vendors... they all worked together like a well oiled machine and made every wedding planning moment up to the wedding day absolutely perfect. I'm a chill bride and solely trusted the vendors and Ashliegh on their skills and talent. I'd be lying if I wasn't nervous at times, but said yes when they said "trust us". They absolutely delivered! The cake was exactly how I'd envisioned it and was so delicious, the food was a huge hit for my husband and I and our guests (I wanted to takr home the meatballs and freeze them), the DJ was perfection, the florals were immaculate (more than what i had expected), and the photographer Rachelle was sooo kind and made our little awkward selves so comfortable. We had hired a non preferred videographer for our day but both Rachelle and Ashliegh worked well with them. Thank you Twenty Mile House for making our dream wedding a reality! We will definitely come back one day and rent one of your homes as an Air Bnb, just so we can relive a little piece of our wedding. Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you!
