This place is absolutely wonderful! The staff approached me and my dog out front after arriving and spoiled him with a pup cup and dog treat. I was thrilled to see a STARBUCKS in the lobby. The room had a good working AC that helped with the 80+ degree weather. There was a mini fridge and 2 twin beds upstairs along with a quiet fan. The pillows were comfortable and didn't leave me with an earache like most hotel pillows do. The blankets were cozy and clean. I was happy to see the grounds maintained so I didn't worry too much about my dog getting foxtails in his paws. The pool area is pretty dope with lots of options to sunbathe or hide in the shade. I was skeptical about noise because our room was facing the street but it was really quiet. They have a brewery with decent snack options and a pool table. Prices were reasonable and food was good! I hope to return during a cooler time of year. So beautiful and peaceful with the option of a couple of small friendly towns to explore. read more

The rooms are not "user friendly ", e.g.: the beds don't have box springs, the mattresses sit on the floor, making it difficult to access. The television is difficult to navigate and a user guide is not provided. The most disturbing part is that we were not given a bill summary at checkout because "their printer wasn't working". When we returned home we found an unrecognizable charge on our bill. We tried to contact the Lodge but no one returned our call so we filed a complaint with our bank. A beautiful place for a wedding venue. It's a quiet and everything is nearby. You should consider booking if you have a dream of 150 guests and want all of them nearby and sleeping close together. This place was unlike any experience I have had for a wedding. Although there weren't any true food options on the property other than the brewery and the Starbucks, the drive down to the city isn't too bad to the cafes. Watch out for their illegal hidden fees! A few weeks ago we booked a room here through Expedia. Upon checking in I asked to see the lodge's invoice and was shocked to see the amount didn't match Expedia's quote, which emphasized "All taxes and fees included in total. What you see is what you pay.". The receptionist said this was due to a hidden fee, but no big deal because they do it all the time! So I asked to speak with the manager, who turned out to be a 20-something woman with green hair and an attitude to match. She said if we don't like it we can just leave. But it being late in the day, and in a remote area, this wasn't a viable option. So we accepted, but with a bad taste in our mouths! Upon checking out I informed the lodge that I'd be filing a complaint with our credit card company. Then a few hours later, surprise! Apparently they became worried, and credited our account $100 for the "mix-up". But it sure did not look like a mix-up to us. So be careful! The law forbidding this practice is California's SB 478 "Hidden Fee Statute". read more

Not very comfortable, but maybe thats what they want, not hanging out in the living room. The upstairs had a bad smell and think it was coming from the kitchen below and we didnt have any food there. We came here for a July wedding venue, beautiful setting but hot (sometimes over 100 degrees). Staff was very friendly. Check in was easy. There were four of us in the room, four keys, but none of them initially worked. I went back to the front desk for reprogramming When we finally entered the room, it was just like heaven, air conditioning at full blast. The king size bed was very comfortable, but it was a little difficult to walk around with all the furniture. The loft had a full size bed. Air conditioning didn't fully reach up there, hence the extra fan. When it was quiet (sleep time), the air conditioning was loud. Me, I like bathrooms. Too bad there was only one. The bathroom only had three face towels, three bath towels, and one hand towel. I thought there were four of us? The next morning at 5a, I asked Ivy (their AI) about how to get additional towels and what to do with excess garbage. No answer. I waited until 7a to go to the front desk. Nobody there? Staff manned both the front desk and the Starbucks as baristas. Oh well, I left the lobby and returned at 9a. The front desk notified housekeeping. They came in a couple of hours with additional towels and a hairdryer to replace the broken one in our room. Another family member with his own room had a bad TV remote. But, that was okay. He visited us to watch the baseball game. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but I have to say, "Where's the ice machine!!!" There is a small refrigerator in the room, but ice is a necessity when days are 100+ degrees. We didn't even use the amenities; way too hot. I am, however, a Starbucks fan; so, having a Starbucks on the facility was a big plus. read more

This is by far one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been to. Pictures are worth a thousand words but my photos do not do this place justice. My roommate and I stayed at the Chalet View Lodge because her friends wedding was coordinated here. Our time here was very short but we received outstanding service from all employers here. They have a Starbucks in the lobby as well as a brewery on site. There's a swimming pool as well. I'm sure this place is even more gorgeous in the winter months. While this place is a bit on the pricier side, it is worth every penny. If you're on the fence about staying here, let this serve as your sign to book this hotel during your vacation. What a hidden gem, mostly great but a few issues...We've lived in Reno for years and never visited. The good...rooms are up to date, beds super comfortable, amazing kid amenities (pool, pump track, fishing pond, frogs galore, playground, corn hole), gorgeous, tall pine trees all around, very family friendly and dog friendly. Starbucks on site is a nice amenity. Towns of a Blairsden and Portola are quaint and have some neat eateries like Gumbas, Village Bakery and the Wigwam at the Nakoma...The Iron Door is a seasonal restaurant with rave reviews too - we didn't make it there this trip. The cons...because of the fires the smoke was at times nearly unbearable, no internet either which means you are unplugged - including no tv or movies...based on other reviews this is an ongoing issue...months ongoing. Starbucks on site has a few small bites (lemon loaf, cake pops, breakfast sandwich) and the "brewery" has some pre-made plates that are downright outrageous in price for the size and quality - only available 4-8pm. MUST love dogs as the guests sneak them into the pool area, have them off leash and the local dog (adorable) wanders the property. Spa is closed indefinitely. Hot tub also closed off. Our room would've been great for a family with older kids. Ours (3&5) struggled being upstairs from us and the railing they loved teetering over was dangerous. A 2am fall by our 5 year old down the slate stair case in the pitch black sealed the deal we came home a night early. BUT, there are other room set ups. We will be probably try again. Just need to bring some little groceries for the kids and definitely book a different type of room set up or cabin. Our kids had a BLAST, so if we could get sleep and be able to unwind as a family with a movie, we'd be all set! read more

My wife and I stayed here July 5th and 6th for a little get away. We had driven through the area a few months prior and wanted to explore more. We appreciate the fact that it feels like a true getaway since the environment is much different than living in Reno but its only an hour away!! We also appreciate that the area is much less crowded than Lake Tahoe and its surrounding towns. My wife did a little research and we chose a View King Resort Guest Room for our stay. We arrived shortly before 3pm and our room was ready. The check in process was easy and efficient and we were told our room was located on the end of the Terrace View building. It was a perfect location for us as the brewery was next door with a nice patio area. The room was nice and comfortable and while we really didn't need the upstairs loft area it did make it nice for the additional space. We made ourselves at home and enjoyed having a small outdoor space as well. The mountain air is quite a bit cooler than in Reno but we liked the fact that the room also had air conditioning. The first night we enjoyed having a few drinks and listening to live music on the brewery patio and met some nice folks. The sunset was beautiful and we both said to each other how relaxing and special this place is. The second day we left about mid morning to continue exploring and didn't come back until about 5:30pm. We immediately noticed there were a lot more vehicles and people at the resort this evening but we weren't at all surprised given the fact it was now Friday evening. There is a wedding party here and they were being somewhat noisy but it really quieted down about 9pm when the brewery closed so for us that is very reasonable. We realize we are not 20 anymore but the TV is difficult to navigate and isn't very intuitive. It would also be nice if they were able to offer more channels utilizing a dish or something similar. The resort uses a text system to allow you to communicate your needs. We used it when we could not connect to wifi and it was very efficient. Overall this was a good experience and we would like to come back. Suggestion to management: Interior furnishings are looking worn and are in need of refreshing. read more

We were invited to a wedding in Sloat California and decided to make a weekend of it. We also wanted to take our puppy, so we were looking for a pet friendly hotel within a 15 minute drive from the wedding site. We found this hotel on Expedia and they were dog friendly for an extra fee, which was fine. I made a reservation through Expedia on April 23rd. Today, May 14th, I received an email from Chalet View Lodge through Expedia, saying they are overbooked. Lovely! Did it really take three weeks to figure out that they'd be full? So I called and left a message for the manager that canceled my reservation. Alex called back and told me that Expedia has overbooked them, and they just were notified of my reservation today. While he wasn't able to find a room for me, as the wedding I am attending isn't at their property, he was very apologetic. Alex also offered to pay for my stay at another location, but every place within a 30 minute drive of the wedding is already full. The few places I have found that are available and pet friendly are 40+ minutes away. So really his offer, while it sounded great on the phone was nothing but a false promise. If you are planning to stay here, make sure your reservation is actually valid, as using one of the websites they partner with is a crap shoot. My family and two dogs came here for spring break and it was such a lovely stay! S E R V I C E: Everyone here is nice and super helpful. They gave us a book with all the hikes in the area and were great at giving directions. They were super accommodating to our dogs and they even have dog baggy stations around the whole place. There was something broken in our room, and they let us a choose another room to stay in! You get complimentary beer and there's continental breakfast every morning. R O O M: Cabins were all booked, but we didn't mind because the room that was given to us was beautiful. It was two stories with a couch that turned into a queen bed, and a king bed upstairs. 2 bathrooms and showers (pretty fancy I must say) and there was a balcony where you can read and enjoy the crisp air. L O C A T I O N: It was a bit hard to find the place - the address given to us didn't exactly take us to the entrance. I say we drove up the road about 5 more miles till we actually saw the lodge. It's in a pretty small town, so expect to drive everywhere. There's restaurants scattered around the area and hiking can be done anywhere - unless it's snowing... so rent snowshoes! O V E R A L L: I'd love to come here again maybe during the summer or whenever the snow is completely gone, so I can hike haha. My family stayed here for my brother's wedding, and it was such an awesome place to relax, swim in the pool, chill in the hot tub, play volleyball/ cornhole, make smores, and just be together enjoying nature! It's definitely made for nature lovers, don't forget your bug spray when you're hanging out in the forest at night! But they still have the amenities of being back home in the city - like a full functioning Starbucks and wifi. Initially we couldn't get our wifi to work, but they fixed it right away. The beds were comfy, employees were helpful, and the amenities were excellent. My husband and I are from Reno and stayed at the Chalet View Lodge on a Saturday-Monday as a way to just get out of town. It was a cute little hotel in a cute little town with lots of outdoor activities right outside your door. The property is huge with lots of things to do, like a playground, corn hole set, volleyball, They also have a fully functioning Starbucks up front, and a brewery that serves tapas (all to go right now). The rooms are also very spacious. We had a suite, which had an upstairs loft with a fridge, microwave and an extra bathroom. The staff was friendly and wore masks the whole time. There are 2 reasons for the loss of star: The lights on the balcony are left on all night with no switch to turn it off from the room. I'm really sensitive to light when I'm sleeping, so it made it hard to get a good night's rest. The other is a biggie during COVID, which is I didn't feel like the rooms were the cleanest. Wow - expensive! And doesn't deliver for the price. The beds are great - if you're less than 5' tall. The rooms are small when you have a king sized bed - walk sideways around the bed. This place wins shortest bed height in Plumas County. And pricing - says $299 a night. No mention until checkout of the taxes and fees that pump it up to about $350 for the night. That's a Friday night, so it is one of the expensive nights (weekends at a hotel are not cheap anywhere). Still and all - that's pricy. I don't know how a tall adult could get in and out of the bed without an assist. The A/C is also near the floor and blows on the bed in some rooms. Noisy and frosty all night long at 72 degrees. The bathrooms - for those who apply makeup - hope you get a room with more than one light over the vanity mirror. Then there was a magnifying mirror mounted by the door.... Your face is definitely in shadow if you want to use that one, with no place to set your makeup bag near it. If you're having a wedding there - take pity on your older attendees and tall people. Book rooms for them somewhere else with standard height beds. Fancy place, but there are better rooms with real beds within a short distance. read more

Front Desk staff are also the restaurant servers...They are like concierge and butler at the same time, which is pretty cool for me. Room was cozy and clean. We used the meeting room at the Spa building overlooking the wilderness, had a good dinner at The Grille Restaurant. Continental Breakfast with Starbucks coffee was included in the room rate which is served at the Grille restaurant. Meagan, Jyl and chambermaids are very friendly and helpful. I can't say enough good things about this place. The service was wonderful and the place itself is gorgeous. A group of ten of us took over the lodge for New Year's Eve and day. Best decision. The ladies at the front desk from the moment you walked in were very friendly and knowledgeable. I stayed in a room that was a split level one with a loft that had a double bed and a queen bed below. The room was nicely furnished and very clean. It had a coffee maker and a mini fridge and a huge soaking tub which is always a plus. The bed was very soft and had lots of pillows We all decided once we had gotten our rooms and settled in to meet at the brewery. Their beer that they make themselves was a red at the moment. It had great flavor and their food was super good. We got the nachos, the brats, the bbq pork sandwich and, the clam chowder. Everything we ate was very good. The flavors all worked really well together and went well with the beer. They have a bar that is located off their lobby which is manned by the front desk ladies. We enjoyed talking with them and they let us have the run of the back game room where we brought in some drinks and games to play. When they noticed we were taking a picture the ladies volunteered to take it for us and took a lot to get the right angle and best lighting for us. Which was super sweet and not expected. The next mornings breakfast was a continental with pastries, juice coffee and tea. Along with other items. All of it was very good. The resort itself is located surrounded by trees and has a pool and hot tubs and all other activities. Overall it was a great experience and we are all definitely planning to come back. read more

We had our wedding at Chalet View Lodge on Memorial Day Weekend. This venue/resort provided us with the most beautiful, fun, loving and accommodating weekend we could have asked for. The venue is so picturesque and gorgeous. All of the guests were on cloud nine staying here and it was hard to not have the time of our lives. The rooms are beautifully designed with elegance and taste. The beds were some of the most comfortable I have ever slept in a hotel (multiple guests wanted to know what the brand was, haha). The activities for guests were endless on-site, you really did not feel like you needed to leave the property except to hike or see some of the natural beauty around Portola. For anyone looking at this venue for their wedding, I HIGHLY recommend it. You will not be disappointed and the staff/wedding planners give you an open drawing board to create whatever you envision for your big day. We did not want the weekend to end. Not having planned a wedding before, Chalet View/Paulette gave us the tools necessary to make it a smooth and relatively stressless process. Paulette made it so easy for us and we trusted that she would handle all of the little details we had no idea went into a wedding and she absolutely crushed it. We couldn't be more grateful for Paulette going over the top for us. She puts her heart and soul into her job and it is impressive to watch how detail-oriented and organized she is. We have spent many hours with her over the last year and she works so hard at her job - we love you Paulette! I have zero complaints about choosing this venue. After four days camping in the Lassen backcountry, we decided to splurge and get a nice room for one night on our way home. Reservations were made through the resort's website weeks in advance (and *paid* for in full), but when we arrived instead of the "View King-Double Resort Guest Room" expected, we got one King bed and a couple of twins in the loft. My travel companions had already started unpacking, so I wasn't going to make a fuss. I can live one night with my ankles banging on the metal bed frame of a small twin bed. A bed's a bed, right? After settling in we found out the guest wi-fi was down and, along with it, the TV. The ladies at the front desk apologized and offered me the phone number of their IT guy if I wanted to talk to him directly. (???) No, I'm not gonna call your IT guy. Not my job. We went off to soak our tired bodies in the hot tub, only to discover it was a "warm tub", and that the controls for the jets were unmarked, and not working anyway. Oh well, warm water is nice too. The final bill for one night in this room was just over $300. If the stay was going to be as nice as the website promised, and that the TripAdvisor stars suggested, it would have been worth it. But it wasn't. Maybe as a wedding venue, the bliss of the moment overlooks the deficiencies of this place. But for recreational travelers like us, this was a major dud. We stayed here because they are pet-friendly for an additional fee. The hotel and surrounding property are beautiful. There are plenty of warm weather outdoor activities, including a pool and a small golf course. The staff was very friendly. The continental breakfast was simple, but plentiful. Bonus: there is a small Starbucks onsite. Our room was one of the ones with a loft. There was a king bed on the ground floor of the suite which had a huge "hole" in the middle of it. Looked like someone dove off the loft railing onto the bed below. The bed in the loft area was very comfortable. Sadly, the layout of the room left everything to be desired. The room was too small to comfortably accommodate a king sized bed. There was a ton of lighting, but no lighting in the quasi-walk-in closet. Zero counter space in the bathroom to unpack toiletries. A dinky desk and wrought iron chair were provided, but with a tablet, ice bucket, water glasses, and decorative items, was too small to use. The one comfy chair was nice. There was no dresser in which to unpack. A bench at the foot of the king size bed was ready to fall apart. Two nightstands on the main floor provided one drawer each and cupboard space for something. Nothing on the second floor but a suitcase stand and nightstand. Room amenities: Convenient location. Nearby parking. A refrigerator that stayed cold. Coffee pot with Starbucks coffee provided. It was on a shelf above a nightstand but had to be moved to the dinky table because the cord wasn't long enough to reach the nearest outlet. Hot water in the shower; shower massage-type shower head; plenty of thick clean towels. Nice bed pillows. Large screen TV with wonderful sound. But difficult to use. I had to log into my own cable and Netflix accounts to watch anything. Oh, and free WiFi. When you could connect. No WiFi, no TV. Minuses: No phone in the room. A mini tablet was provided, but other than providing the restaurant menu, was for marketing purposes and proved useless otherwise. At the steep nightly rate, we expected to have a room in which we could comfortably relax without rearranging furniture; TV service that included the basics. And lastly, a place in the bathroom to put our toothbrush and soap. read more

I came across Chalet View Lodge on Pinterest randomly one night and added it to the short list of venues my fiance and I wanted to check out. BEST DECISION EVER! It was the first place we saw and we both just fell in love. It doesn't look like much on the outside but by the time Leann finished our tour, we were both convinced it was the perfect place for our wedding. We forced ourselves to check out a few other places for comparison and nothing else came close. It was initially out of budget for us, but we opted for a mid week wedding, which cut our cost in half. They were completely up front from the beginning about everything that was included and all the pricing. They allowed us to bring our own caterers and alcohol which saved us quite a bit as well. Fast forward a year and a half and our wedding was better than I had ever dreamed. We had opted for the all-inclusive package which came with wedding planning services. Paulette was our planner and I can't quite say enough about how amazing she is and how dedicated she is to making sure you are happy and your day is perfect. If I could just have her plan my entire life, that would be great. Lol. All our friends and family can't stop talking about how it was the best wedding they've ever attended. I don't have a single regret about choosing this place. I'm hoping that one of my friends will get married there so I can experience it from a guest perspective as well. Literally the perfect getaway escape from reality. i have been visiting Chalet View for 5 years. I've used it as my go-to for quality time with my Hubby, girls weekends, attended weddings and private parties at this location tucked in the Sierras. This charming hotel is a one stop shop. No need to leave the property at all! My husband and I live in Marin so it's a perfect 4hr drive. Dog friendly is super important to us, we never want to travel without our best friend! Our pup LOVES this property, she gets as excited as us to visit. We hike and I love a quick morning run on trails behind the property that lead down to the river. The brewery is fun for lunch, apps and cocktails. We got to meet the chef after a meal and he was so pleasant and friendly! Really, the whole staff at this establishment is smiling and welcoming at all times. I especially love Alejandro, he is full of life and hospitality comes easily to him. Pool area is littered with beautiful cabanas. I just loved lounging by the pool. Every detail of this place is on point. We are making this a bi-monthly destination. This is such a wonderful hidden gem in the Sierras. Good friends of mine got married here and booked the entire place for their celebration. It is the PERFECT location to host a destination wedding. The resort itself is gorgeous. Not fancy - but gorgeous. Rooms are comfortable with the basic amenities. The grounds are well maintained and the activities are all easily accessible and perfect for a relaxing time. I absolutely loved the taproom. The beer and food is great. We enjoyed partying with our friends, playing pool and card games the whole evening. During the day, we explored downtown Graeagle which has adorable locally-owned shops and eateries, and we managed to get a beautiful excursion to Frazier Falls which is a quick 20 minute drive up the hill. And the wedding - OMG. The setting was absolutely breathtaking. They had an outdoor rustic lodge feel surrounded by beautiful pine trees and lush green landscapes. This hit every positive note. I would highly recommend for travelers getting away or engaged couples looking for a unique spot for their wedding. read more

I cannot express how fortunate I have been to find this little gem in the area. When on business travel it is often more convenient for me to stay in Portola than to drive to Reno or Quincy. This Lodge is unique for the area and quite reasonably priced. The customer service is awesome! They recognize me even when it has been months between my visits and are always friendly and accommodating to any special requests or needs I may have. There is plenty to do and see in the area, why not enjoy your evening and get a good night's sleep here! The restaurant is unique with menus built around their onsite / locally grown vegetables and herbs. I have never been disappointed with anything on the menu. We stayed at this place for several days in July. Graegle, Portola and the surrounding area is really beautiful and less traveled than Tahoe. Chalet View is on the luxury side of things with nice amenities (pool, spa if you wish, golf course). The cabins are nicely fixed up. Going for that luxury rustic feeling if you know what I mean. Your stay comes with a decent free breakfast every morning. The grounds are beautiful and there is hiking trail that leads right off the property that goes to the river and beyond. There is a lot to explore. Of course you pay for the amenities. Our other gripe was that we had serious hot water issues during our stay that took a couple of fixes before it was resolved. We had to go without showers for a while and that was no fun while you are enjoying an active vacation with lots of hiking. No, we were not comped anything either although staff were very amenable and responded to the issue quickly. read more
