    My private balcony

This place was completely charming, but what put it over the top was the owners and general manager Lydia. During my stay, my truck broke down and wouldn't t start. Lydia made a phone call to the owners. They showed up five minutes later with a tool box and started searching YouTube for solutions. With their help, I was able to start my truck! They went way above and beyond their duties. Also, the room was spotless and I slept like a bear.

My husband and I stayed at the Riverside this past weekend. We had an excellent experience. We stayed at the Riverside during the summer and we're eagerly anticipating staying there again. The view from the balcony is gorgeous and DV never disappoints with the beautiful sites. Our room was cozy and was the perfect size. It was clean and included some little snacks. I can't say enough about the office staff. Lydia, was such a sweetheart and so helpful to us. I can't say enough about her hospitality. I'm looking forward to the next time we visit.

    View from our patio!!

Only the second time I've stayed here, but I'll be back! Such a gorgeous spot, incredibly well maintained rooms, clean and smells good, nice staff, personalized touch, and did I mention the amazing patio views and walkability?! I'll be back!

A nice morning on the patio

Super comfy and awesome location. Kayla and Nick were awesome l!!!!!! We had a great time .

A local river spot recommended to us by the Uber helpful innkeepers!

We came with a large group of family and friends and were totally delighted with our stay! All the details were considered in this charming Inn. Cabin-like rooms were recently updated with mid century decor, gorgeous views from the balconies, perfect location right in the heart of town, easy river access, falling asleep to the sound of the river, gift bags with local cookies and a small but well equipped kitchen in the room, live music riverside on Saturday morning, support securing a spot large enough for us all to eat and meet together, supportive and generous staff, great recommendations on nearby river and lake spots... it really just doesn't get any better than this for a quaint and cozy family vacation. We're looking forward to a return visit for more hiking, river time, and exploring local ghost towns. Downieville itself is just darling. A perfect old mining town with lots of historical interest and charm. *some of the other reviews/ photos on here are pretty dated... new ownership has definitely update the place so it feels more hip and less "grandma"

This place was just perfect in every way. We received excellent service and loved the special accommodations for our pups!

The love and care that has been put into their guests having a perfect experience is obvious the second you arrive. You are greeted by the friendliest staff and you will find your personalized envelope with everything you need to kick off your stay. We stayed in the Feather Suite and it was spacious with a nice welcome book that tells you about the staff, the local restaurants, sites to see nearby and the number to text if you need anything at all. They do host a happy hour a couple doors down at Boomtown and depending on when you are staying, you may catch trivia night. Coffee and breakfast are pretty much right outside your door. Everywhere we went had #vegan options too. This location is incredible. You can fall asleep to the sound of the river or sit out on the patio to relax. Everything is just a few steps from your door. We walked right across the street to Jadaa's restaurant for lunch one of the days we were here. The town closes up fairly early do you don't need to worry about noise. You will get the best nights sleep here.

What do you get? Very basic motel room, with no air conditioning (fans are provided) and basic kitchen and bathroom amenities. It was great to have a full kitchen though, plus an outdoor BBQ - we brought a ton of food and drinks with us and we ate very, very well. Why bother? It's CHEAP and located in a beautiful stretch of road by the Yuba River. Just walk across the street to soak in the river to cool off or to try some fly fishing. About 15 minutes away by car is the cute little town of Downieville, a mecca for outdoor sports. This was a great alternative for a quick, CHEAP getaway - no crowds, no noise, just you and your two and four-legged friends out in nature. The owners/managers are a hoot - they'll gab til the cows come home, but are actually very nice and do as much as they can to make you feel comfy.

The old Bank AmeriCard sign out front says just how long this place has been going since the last remodel- 1969? But that's what makes it so unique. Plenty of parking. Our host was a real 'clamper'- gold miner that is- knew the gold miner language and life style almost too well...talked our ear off. But he made sure we were all situated and gave us some tips on how to get to the swimmin hole by the river. Don't get any ideas about being a claim jumper though! the river is fully staked in these here parts. This is for those that like the highway 49 historic feeling and a way to know the real thing. Kokanee is a type of salmon species common to Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River. The person who named the place must have been trying to lure fisherman. Oh, and the Forest around Kokanee Kabins is big and beautiful and heavenly. Bring your favorite drinks and a camera and call Kokanee Kabins home for a weekend. If you're not into funky best to go up the road to Butte's Inn or High Country Inn.

This venue had been my number one choice since the first time I heard about it. After getting engaged, I submitted an inquiry but was too excited to wait, so about a week later I called for more information. I spoke directly with the owner, Steve Hines. We discussed pricing and decided to schedule a tour. Since we live over two hours away, I explained that we were hoping for a weekend appointment. Steve told me he would email me, and we scheduled a tour for August 9, 2026 at 2pm. We confirmed the appointment and drove over two hours to see the venue. We arrived a few minutes early and went inside, but all the lights were off and no one was there. I called out for Steve several times with no response. Just before our scheduled 2pm tour, I called him and left a voicemail asking where we should meet. A few minutes after 2, I called again to see if he was simply running late. I called both phone numbers that were provided, only to find that the office number forwarded directly to his cell phone. At that point, I became genuinely concerned that something might have happened to him. We walked around the property looking for anyone, went back inside calling his name, and even drove over to the rental properties he also owns after seeing a work crew nearby. We truly thought there might have been an emergency. Instead, we spent over an hour waiting, calling multiple times, and sending a text message. That text was read, yet we never received a reply, an apology, or any explanation for why no one showed up. As of August 16, 2026, we still have not received a single response. To make matters worse, the venue was unlocked with no staff present, and there was trash left on the bar along with cups sitting outside. This venue was the one I was most excited to see, so it's incredibly disappointing that the decision to book there was taken away by a complete lack of communication. I understand that emergencies and unexpected situations happen. What I cannot understand is choosing not to communicate with people who have invested hours of their day, traveled a significant distance, and arranged their schedules for an appointment that you agreed to. We spent over four hours driving, plus more than an hour waiting at the venue, only to be completely ignored. A 30-second text saying the appointment needed to be canceled or rescheduled would have shown basic courtesy and respect for our time. If this is the level of communication provided before a contract is even signed, it did not give us confidence that our wedding day would be handled any differently. We chose to take our business elsewhere, and I sincerely hope no other couple has to experience the same level of disregard for their time.

Lots of hiking and biking trails close by as well. We just came back from our 5th family reunion at the hotel and have already booked our dates for the 6th. We are a family that loves to cook and we couldn't ask for a better kitchen set up. We have literally scoured every vacation rental site available and have never found a property like this one, where the entire hotel is yours for your stay. It's a special place and if you have a large group to accommodate, we highly recommend this one! It is about an hour from the nearest grocery store so you'll want to think through your meal plans/shopping lists ahead of time.
