I broke my left little finger and severely damaged tendons in my right foot. I was seeing Dr. Gabriel for my left pinkie because I had been seeing him prior to the accident for a problem with my left thumb. But because I had also very recently seen Dr. He Who Will Not Be Named at Tahoe Fracture, I went to see him about my foot. He took x-rays and said that nothing appeared to be broken but that I should continue with rest, ice, elevation and continue to wear the shoe that the ER had put my foot in. For 4 weeks I went in and a new x-ray was taken and I was told the same thing. After 4 weeks, the enormous swelling had gone down about halfway and I was told to continue doing what I was doing and that I was being released. I asked if maybe I should have an MRI and I was dismissed. Several weeks go by and nothing is changing, foot is still twice it's normal size and I think why on earth didn't I go to Dr. Melhuish right off the bat, DUH!!!!! She has been my foot doctor for years but I hadn't had any problems recently and I just wasn't thinking. You know that old adage Out of Sight, Out of Mind. Well I made an appt and after more x-rays, nothing is broken but a lot of post trauma swelling that is just not going away. For quite a few weeks we treated it with RICE using KT Tape for support and the swelling went down considerably but not all the way and it was still painful to walk. Then Dr. Melhuish suggested laser therapy. After we talked about it in length, I wanted to go ahead and try it even though I knew my insurance wouldn't cover it. So, late in Sept I started the 1st of ten sessions and I have got to say that I was impressed after the first two treatments. It didn't hurt at all! Occasionally I would feel a little microscopic burst of energy or sometimes it felt like there was the little microscopic man poking the inside of my foot with a tiny, tiny pencil eraser. My understanding is that the laser is blasting the mitochondria to wake them up so that my foot could begin to heal itself at the cellular level. Kinda like a cold slap in the face to get the cells attention for more blood and oxygen flowing. I am very happy to say that although I might have little bit of pain (maybe .5 on the scale of 1 - 10) if I have been on my feet all day, for the most part I am pain free and walk normally!! YEA! This has worked so well that I want to try the laser therapy on my left hand which still has some inflammation and swelling left in it from the accident. I know that this review has been rather lengthy but I believe in details and I really believe in the power of MLS Laser Therapy to help the body heal itself. Apparently there is staff for texting but not for actual voice communication. Another thing disturbing was a required a $250.00 up front retainer fee before setting a appointment or knowledge of insurance carrier. This seemed pretty damn arrogant. No building of trust between patient and doctor just interested in the money more so than the care. In my world I pick my groceries and goods before I pay for them. When the PF flared up during a recent training cycle, he treated it with the shockwave therapy system and it was miraculous.
