I'm very disappointed in my experience with Sierra Repair. I rarely bother with writing negative reviews unless a business falls very short. I bought a used Honda snowblower and wanted to do a service on it. Sierra Repair is near my house (always happy to support neighborhood businesses) so I dropped by to get a quote and was quoted around $170. The gentleman that helped me asked what model I had and after telling him (a Honda HS 928) he didn't really understand so I showed him the equivalent sized Troy Bilt (it should have been a red flag he wasn't familiar with this model as it's one of the most common snowblowers ever made). I was leaning toward doing the service myself but for $170 it made sense to just have it done. I immediately returned with the snowblower filled out my paper work and dropped it off. I picked it up today and the bill was $369.95 just for the service. The charged my $92 extra just for the labor of changing the hydro transmission fluid. I understand that services are expensive and you get what you pay for but honestly if I had known it was going to cost this much I would have done the service myself. Lesson learned, get the quote in writing and have them call you before charging you for additional expenses. Update: I was contacted yesterday (the day after I wrote this review) by the owner who was very apologetic and said that they really like their team but they had moved some people around explaining the miscommunication with my quote. She was very nice and offered to refund me the difference between the quote I received and what I ended up paying which was $200. I appreciated the call and it definitely turned my negative experience into a better one. Changing my one star to a two star. read more

Is there a rating lower than one star? If so, I'd have no choice but to give it to this place. I've had Snapper mowers and Stihl saws, string trimmers and leaf blowers for years. I got my first Snapper mower when I was 15 and have been a diehard fan ever since. I've also been a customer of Sierra Repair in the past with no real issues to speak of. There have been minor issues, but nothing that would have prompted speaking out publicly. On this particular day I was shopping for parts for my latest Snapper mower to give it a spring tune. I usually have Sierra Repair do the work, but I was feeling handy and decided to try some homeowner repair myself. The woman behind the counter was both friendly and helpful while assisting me with my parts list. During the parts shopping I realized I was getting close to $300 and thus began the debate about possibly just buying a new mower instead. The woman helped me weigh my options between repairing and buying new and after some quick calculations I was leaning towards new. After a quick call to my better half I decided that I'd fix my old mower to sell AND buy a new Snapper to boot. So, we're talking close to a thousand dollars a this point. When I got to the counter the man standing behind it gruffly asked if he could help me. I noted that I was already being helped by the woman. "I'm helping you now," was his reply. I'm not sure why he decided to take over since I was perfectly satisfied with the woman; that one still confuses me, but this guy was everything she wasn't, snippy, arrogant and condescending. He seemed very disinterested in selling me anything and by all accounts was an absolute customer service disaster like I've rarely experienced. All out of the blue, it must be noted. To this point everything had seemed to be going well and the shop was 99% of the way to getting my business and money. Yet again. Things got even worse when I asked what the best price might be for both the parts and a new mower. He curtly replied that everything would be full retail. Sure, no problem, I thought. Everyone needs to make money. While talking with my wife on the phone she'd gone online to read reviews on the mower and had noted that the online suggested retail price was $50 less than the shop's asking price. When I asked if "retail" meant the advertised price he replied that the price marked on the sales floor was indeed the retail price. I said that I thought that the suggested retail price was actually lower, at which point he became what I can only describe as confrontational, bordering on aggressive. I'd been fully prepared to pay the shop price on all the parts plus the new mower, but his attitude and his overall demeanor had me both upset and more than a little confused so I decided to cut my losses and get the heck out of Dodge. In order to facilitate a quick repair on my old mower I chose to buy the parts from him, but in retrospect wished I had just walked out. Everything I needed was easily found online, and at a better price. I still love Stihl products and will continue to buy them, just never from Sierra Repair. There are at least two other shops in town (Ace Hardware and Nevada Power Products) that sell Stihl so I'll be taking my business to them. As far as mowers go, Sierra Repair is the only Snapper dealer in the surrounding area that I could find so that's pretty much the end of that. My new Honda mower is wonderful and does everything I'd ever need it to do, way more than the equivalent Snapper, in retrospect. The silver lining is that my awful experience at Sierra Repair gave me a chance to discover a gem of a new product line in Honda. Though the first half of my experience went ok, I can't think of a good reason to ever go to Sierra Repair. There are just so many other great places with wonderful, knowledgeable, appreciative owners and staff that are working hard to earn our business. It seems counter-intuitive to support a shop that abuses customers and is thoroughly unmoved by its reputation. You'll note that plenty of other people have had bad experiences here; so many so that it's just not worth the risk. Go somewhere else and avoid the heartache that will no-doubt befall you. read more

Love this place!! Amazing customer service! I run a small lawn business and every time I need a repair in a pinch they make it happen. Prices are fair and when my wife rolls up with a 30" mower in the back of our mini-van they gladly get the mower out. Peace of mind type service like this makes life for me less stressful and the fact they go out of their way to help my wife is worth everything to me. I'm really not a helper... Yesterday I was in need of a fuel line and a fuel filter and some advice in regards to a wood splitter. I was sent over to Sierra repair from a neighboring business of theirs and after reading these negative reviews left from everyone else, I had to see if it was true.....ANNNND.....SURVEY SAYS!!...... Completely FALSE!!! I was dumbfounded and in shock. As soon as I was helped by Jeremy at the front desk. Jeremy was super fucking awesome and he took excellent care of me. Everybody in there was extremely nice. I was extremely happy with my overall experience and I absolutely, 100%, without a doubt will be going back to them for all of my small engine repair needs. read more

First, let me start by saying my parents have been taking their lawn mower to this place for 10 years, with no issues. Last year was the first time we have had issues. They did the yearly maintenance but the self propel stopped working. My mom called them and they were rude over the phone. I just went the rest of the year with another lawn mower, since she didn't want me to get involved. This year...I am definitely involved. She took it down to get fixed and do the yearly maintenance over a month ago. They were completely rude to her and my son when they went down, acting like having her business was an issue. Monday they received a call that the lawn mower was ready to be picked up. My mom and son both went down again and the lawn mower was not done. When my mom asked why and said she received a call, someone told her "I don't need to hear you right now." WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM??? Nice customer service!! Know, I will be picking it up with my boyfriend this time and I hope you are rude to me. DO NOT USE THEM!!! They used to be so good, but apparently they don't like working with elderly women. My roommate had call you see if they could put a carburator on to a stile chop saw. Which is really Sadly there the only place in town that works and is a distributor for them!. The motor did happens to be on a home made homemade pocket bike but Hé did called a few time to 1 make sure they can do it. 2 what the cost would be. They told him a quote which was pretty high mind you! They said check in by phone but it should be done by fri.... He called to check on it today witch is wed. The lady on the phone was so rude!! He had them on speaker evey time I know because it was my phone he used. I was also there when he talk to them face-to-face when we brought it in. That was never said... He asked if there's any way to just put the carb on it she was even ruder cut him off. Said it ready for pick now... that was my worst customer service experience ever. I have had some bad one from the teen staff at McDonald's! Sad that McDonald's teenage customer service is better than you! When my 5 year old Sears Craftsman lawn mower became very hard to start and had a gas leak dripping below the carburetor, I reached out to people in our neighborhood (who have lived here a lot longer than I have) to recommend a good small engine repair place. I had two people, with the same last name, recommend this place, so I brought it in to Sierra Repair to do the repairs. This was about 3 weeks ago. The guy behind the counter, Jeff, told me it would take them approx. 2 to 3 weeks before they could get to it. They called a week and a half later and said it was ready. I picked it up and didn't try to start it until I got home. When I tried, the same problems were still there, even though the service report said they cleaned the carburetor, flushed the gas lines and tested it! I called and talked to Jeff telling him the mower has the same problems and he said to bring it back. I did, and was met by a woman this time, who said they would take care of it, without charging me more than the $99 I paid already. They called 2 days later and said it was ready, stating they replaced the carburetor and tested it. When I got there to pick it up again, I wanted to make sure it was in good running condition, so I started it and let it run for 15-20 seconds. It seemed like this time they fixed it. When I got home, I started to mow my yard, but about 30 seconds into it, the mower belched out a huge white cloud and died. I then noticed gasoline was running out underneath an area near the carburetor...AGAIN! Bottom line - I don't believe they did any actual repairs, or tested their work thoroughly to make sure the problems I brought to them to fix were taken care of in a professional manner because the original problems were still evident after two trips to get the problems resolved, and the mower deck was surprisingly clean and shingy? My suspicion is gas leaked onto the deck before I got there, and they wiped it off. It wasn't cleaned after the first 'service.' This place will NEVER see me again, looking to give them anymore of my hard earned money for services I expect to be done the right way, the first time! If you need similar work done on any of your small engines, go anywhere but here! I'd give this shop 0 stars if Yelp would allow it. It is that bad! BTW: I bought a new Troy Bilt mower with a Honda motor yesterday. So far, so good!! read more

No fire to the plug, stripped it down and attempted to diagnose the electrical problem. Purchased a coil from a fellow over the phone. Picked it up and installed it. Still no fire to the new coil and spark plug. Googled for the setting for spark plug and air gap for the coil. Could not find data on air gap. Called again talked to a lady that gave me a quote of 40.. to diagnose the system. Brought it in two days ago, person at the counter wanted me to give them over 200.00 to fix the saw. Did not mention the 40.00 diagnostic fee. Rather qay ass and rude person. Not getting anymore of my business for sure. read more

I was given a chain saw and had taken it apart to clean it. Since it was already broke down, I decided to take it to Sierra Repair to have them make sure everything was in good working order, tune it and make any necessary repairs before putting it back together. A week later, they called and said it was ready. When I picked it up, it was put back together but they said they couldn't get it started. They said it sounded like "it wanted to" but wouldn't. They said I probably needed a new carburetor. I told them I would take it home and see if I could figure it out. I got home and checked to see if there was gas in the tank. THERE WAS NOT! I filled it and it started right up! You would think a repair place would have thought of that. It ran fine but the bar oil leaked, so I pretty much paid for them to not do anything but put it back together! When I called to tell them, all I got was, "Glad it all worked out for you." I'll never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Went in with a Honda mower, and Stihl Weedeater for spring service. They had both been working in the fall. I was told that both tools were DEAD. The weedeater they told me had been run with normal gas, and the engine was burnt out. I believed them knowing my kids don't always pay attention to the gas. They charged me $80 for having looked at my dead tools, but was told I could get that amount credited toward a new machine. I picked out a new Stihl, only to be told that I could only get the credit if I bought a new mower as well. Left very unhappy. Then when I got home, I removed my Stihl's plug, cleaned it, sprayed in some oil, put in fresh gas. My "DEAD" weedeater works PERFECTLY!!!! They were just trying to sell me a new machine, instead of fixing my perfectly good tool. Then repeated with my mower, and it also runs fine. Do not trust these guys! read more

Took my 2 and half year old mower in because it would not start. Told 99.9% it was a carburetor. Turned out to be a $25 choke. It took my 12 days to get my lawn mower back. They tried to charge me $144! I was told that they replaced the spark plug, sharpened the blade and replaced the air filer. I did not authorize this service beforehand and the filter was fine, like new. So then the clerk reduced the fee to $123.00 All for a $25 part that took them 12 days to complete! I will never do business with them ever again. read more
