This was the second time I took my car to AAA for some electrical work, and it will be the last. My first experience was great; the workmanship was spot on, but this time, not at all. I drove my car to the shop to get a power wire installed on some coil packs, supplying the shop with three forms of installation instructions to assist in the diagnosis and repair. I received a call two days later to come to the shop. The technician told me that, somehow, the motherboard running my coil packs shorted out. Luckily, I had another one from another project lying around. I rushed home, grabbed a new harness and motherboard, and gave them to a technician at the shop. Four days later, I received a text saying they had bad news about my car. I called the shop, and they said, "The car was running last night, but when we started it this morning, one of your valves dropped. Not sure how that could happen at idle, but I took into consideration that things happen. I arrived at the shop on Friday to tow my car home and had to still pay the full amount even though I was now towing it home and supplied the replacement electrical components, but that's business. I got the car home, pulled the head, and this is what I found, see pictures. I have been building cars for years and sent these pictures to a mechanic, and we can tell you that this was not from a start-up, but you be the judge. I am now out of a car, the head is destroyed beyond repair, and the block needs a complete rebuild, all because I needed a wire installed. Now I am at least looking at $3500 to $4000 in repairs due to a wire installation. read more

I brought my vehicle to AAA after replacing the OEM halogen lights with OEM LED lights. Due to voltage issues, the LED lights were flickering. The manager assured that they had the vehicle manufacturer software and equipment to correct the issue. The manager stated it would be an easy fix and would not take very long. After dropping off the vehicle, it sat most of the day. Upon calling me with an update, they informed me that they had spent several hours attempting to diagnose the issue and that it could be a power steering assist issue, but would require more diagnosis. At a hourly rate of $175, the bill adds up quickly. I questioned how they spent several hours looking at the vehicle as I work in the area and it was sitting outside the majority of the day and didn't move. At the shop and in further speaking with the manager and a couple of his employees, they all attempted to justify time spent on the vehicle. AAA informed that they were unable to perform a diagnostic test via their diagnostic equipment and were unable to get into the control module for vehicle programming. After a few minutes of listening to the manager and his crew attempt to justify their expertise and ability to repair vehicles, I left. A week later, I was able to get my vehicle into the local dealer. The tech immediately checked the computer, identified that it did not have the applicable code and added the LED code. Simple and painless. The manager of AAA was deceitful, attempted to inflate the bill with hours of diagnostic work and advised repair which had nothing to do with causing the lights to flicker. AAA should have admitted that they did not have the capability to perform the work due to the electronic features of the vehicle which requires proprietary software and licensing. Deceptive trade practices." (NRS 598) A garageman engages in "deceptive trade practices" when he knowingly states that services, replacement parts or repairs are needed when they are not. Only these guys will touch my classic Jeep from now on. The owner John was professional and punctual. Not only immediately returning my calls but getting my ride into the shop same day. Basically only took a day to unfuck the electrical job of the last shop that didn't have the guts to just tell me they have no idea what they're doing. These guys are a little pricey, to be fair. I had the electrical problems from hell on my F250. I took it to one shop and they couldn't determine what the problem was and I was looking at a couple grand in diagnostics while they figured out what might be wrong. I took it here to AAA Auto Electric John was up front about the possibilities I was facing. What it could be, what it might be. He took it as a challenge to figure out what was causing my problem WITHOUT racking up a huge bill. He kept me posted through the whole process and there were no surprises. When the job was done my bill was half of what I expected to pay elsewhere. Great and professional work and customer service. Beware complete scam. Owner will make promises not meet deadlines and charge you a whole bunch of money and then act confused when the fix they tried to do doesn't work. Was referred to AAA after calling around to fix my super dutys 4x4 after a local body shop had pulled the dash and butchered the harness. I went to a new place to and I am highly satisfied. The customer service was fabulous and they did a good job on my truck. I had taken my truck to 2 different places to get a quote on how much it would cost to get a tune up and their prices were pretty high. These people should be closed down. I went in with an electrical problem that was effecting my car's transmission and after $1,200 in repairs they seem to have fixed everything but the electrical problem. They don't know what they doing and deserved to be closed for good. read more

I dropped off my vehicle with with the understanding they would install the stereo and a Alarm with LCD remote and remote start feature. He called me 48 hours later to come get my vehicle, when I got there thats when he told me the alarm wasnt installed because the remote start module was back ordered. I'd been speaking to him for a week and he had plenty of time to order the part and/or make sure it was in stock before I dropped off my vehicle. Now he's wasted my time and my brothers time who drove me to the shop to drop it off and pick it up. I could have gone to a shop that would have charged me half as much for the stereo install and actually installed the Alarm like agreed. If he had been upfront with me about cost from the start I would have gone to someone else. If he told me he was going to charge me HALF that much I would have gone to someone else. The reason I took my vehicle to a shop and not someone else I know who installs stereos is because almost every alarm manufacture voids your warranty if you dont have it professionally installed. I didnt even get an alarm installed. And now with being charged $600 to just to install the stereo I have to save up some more money before I can get someone else to install the alarm. Oh hell no. I have had a lot of experiences where I walk into a mechanic shop w an old car and something stupid is wrong and they fix it in ten minutes and don't take a dime. Not this guy. He lured me in acting nice. He will tell you how great he is, and then charge you $100 to replace two light bulbs that took him ten minutes. Thanks Oreilly auto for the wrong bulbs and AAA for that important lesson. He offered me a $50 oil change like it was a consolation. I bought a new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and the stock subwoofer was not doing it for me. So I purchased an Orion HCCA 10" subwoofer and an Orion XTR15001 amplifier. I ended up having my enclosure custom designed and built for my Jeeps dimensions and my listening requirements. All in all I spent over $2000 on my sub, amp, and enclosure so I wanted to find a shop that could install everything the correct way. I ended up choosing AAA Auto Electric because they specialize in vehicle wiring amongst other things so I called them up to set up an appointment. When I got there, John wasn't in at the time but two friendly employees welcomed me and took all my info and my equipment. I didn't have a ride so I knew that I was going to be there the entire time in the waiting room. When John finally got in, he introduced himself and asked additional questions about my install. They had very good advice backed up with years of experience based on how I wanted everything installed. They even went out of their way to research my alternators output which helped them determine the correct size wiring that they would use which ended up actually saving me money. They also called the Jeep dealership to get my radio code since I didn't have it with me when everything was done. All in all they were friendly and extremely knowledgable. It's also worth noticing that while I was there for about 5 hours relaxing in their waiting room, they had multiple customers coming to either drop off or pick up their vehicle after John and his crew had fixed it. Two of those customers had not had any luck with other shops in the Reno area that had tried to fix their vehicles electrical issues but AA Auto Electric was able to fix it on the first try. You should have seen those customers. They were so relieved that they didn't have to go through another shop again. AAA was literally one of the best car repair experiences I have ever had. I had a lot of after market electronic modifications installed on my truck when I bought it, and the wiring was a mess. From an edge tuner, to grill and roof lights, to a disconnected siren (I have no idea why) and it was draining out my batteries so much so that often days my truck wouldn't turn over if it sat more than a few hours. I took it to a few auto shops and got quotes from "we won't touch this" to thousands before being referred to AAA by a local mechanic who only performed engine work. I stopped in to get a quote and spoke with John, who assured me they could take care of the work and quoted me a fair price, just needed to get a few parts in. I brought my truck back and the following day it was revving and ready to go first try. They got to the root of each electrical draw, stuck to the budget they quoted me, and did so with professional customer service. While I know this may seem overly positive, I felt it necessary to post this review given the various auto shop nightmares I and I'm sure many others have experienced. Now nearly 2 years later and 3 states away (I live in Seattle) my truck batteries are starting to fail. It is not a result of any of the work performed, I believe the truck needs a new starter. The batteries are still under warranty from interstate and when I took my truck in to a national tire repair shop that services interstate they refused to fulfill my warranty without an invoice even though the dates are scratched properly on the battery. I was able to call John, and within minutes he managed to find my old invoice and was even willing to fax it to the shop so that I could swap out my batteries. A lesser shop would have told me I was S.O.L. Above and beyond customer service, I highly recommend these guys for any and all vehicle electrical repair. They will provide you with solid, honest service at a fair price. read more

The people who work there, John included is extremely rude and it's as if they enjoy being that way. I paid for diagnostics on my vehicle and they just gave me a receipt, no paperwork or anything so when I called in a couple weeks later to get the work done, they had to record of me ever being in the system. I should have demanded the 50.00 back for diagnostics because now I am going to have to go to another shop to get the work done. This place is absolutely no good and I would not waste your time here. I have never written a review for a business before, but I just had to warn people about how crappy this place really is. read more

If you just want a stereo installed or a change oil, maybe you can get a bit of satisfaction. But beware and stay away from this place for any car repairs. They will rip you off and pretend they can fix the problem but cannot. Owner John will lecture you on how long he's been in the business and take your money but your car is worst than before you took it there. read more

i brought both of my cars in to this place. the first time, they didn't even fix the problem. the second time, they charged me $76 for a $1.50 light bulb. they could have called me and told me it was just the bulb and i would have done it myself. after that, i went to Tires Plus and they gave me a free bulb. i would not recommend this place to anyone! read more
