While it seems to be normal for caregiver turnover (especially during the Covid years), the vast majority of those caregivers were gentle, loving and genuinely loved what they do. We all made many friends of the staff, even the kitchen staff and med techs. The facility is well maintained, clean, attractive and orderly at all times. The setting up on a hill in the Sierra Foothills in north Auburn is wonderful and quite convenient and easily reached just off I80 and State Highway 49 in the California Gold Country. The rooms are either private or semi-private, so residents can feel independent Many of the administration staff were also very kind. The housekeeping director and staff were very responsive and nice. Even the maintenance staff were so helpful and compassionate. The activities director labors tirelessly to provide many enrichment activities for the residents. The receptionists are also very nice. Even the business manager is very compassionate and she attended mom's Celebration of Life. We were very appreciative of that. While expensive as it is everywhere, our mom's experience was quite good. Many staff expressed their love for our mom to us after she passed away. We were very touched by them all. Our family recommends Oakwood Village for senior care.

From the Director Joyce Perkins all the way to the maintenance and housekeepers, everyone one truly cares about the residents (at least this was our experience while mom was there). We visited the facility at least 3 times a week and at all hours of the day and night so we feel we had a good idea of what goes on there. We constantly participated in resident activities of which there were many. We even started a Kummikub group on Sunday afternoons which was a big hit with the residents and mom got to play the game she loved. It also helped residents keep their minds sharp. Kathleen, Activity Director is also a rockstar as is Paula and the other ladies that staff the front desk. Everyone keeps an eye on residents as if they were their own family members and communicated to us any issues they felt were important for us to know in our mom's senior living journey. When mom started having memory issues Joyce was there to help guide us and give us support in making the decision to move mom to a memory care facility. My husband and I both cried the day mom moved from Solstice as we felt we were leaving our family. I encourage anyone with a family member in ANY type of senior facility or memory care facility to visit your loved one (or have someone you trust visit them) at bare minimum once a week. It doesn't have to be a long visit - just show up!

We actually tried to place my mother inlaw here first but it was full. Most of the time there is a waiting list I get in. I absolutely loved this place & their caring staff & the director (Wilma). My mother inlaw would comment on how nice it was. They are kind and patient and treat their residents with respect and dignity. My mother inlaw would comment on how nice it was. It feels more like home & family than a care home. It houses a small group of residents. Staff cooks them breakfast in the mornings, make their snacks and treats. A lot of home baking. Lunch and dinner come from The Villa (one of their care homes near by). Residents can participate in the crafts they do or watch. They have a couple of Canaries the residence enjoy. There is TV in the open living space with recliners for them to enjoy. Some rooms are small (perfect size for twin bed) others are a little bigger. There are private and shared rooms. They like to encourage residents to be out and socializing. They have a lovely patio outside. The facility is nestled in a nice quiet neighborhood. My mother inlaw passed away here and staff and hospice we very kind and compassionate to the very end. I can't express how thankful we were to find this place. I could sleep at night knowing she was being well cared for.

The administrator, Blake, really cares and goes out of his way to solve problems. The nurses and CNAs are fantastic. The showers were not only clean, the fixtures and the rooms are very nice. Even the bathroom in my room had very nice fixtures. The bed was very comfortable with good controls. They installed new HVAC so the room temperatures were very comfortable. There is a lot of attention to detail that makes the difference in healing. PT and OT and the therapy room are the best I have ever seen. Best PT and OT I have received in any Skilled Nursing Facility. Best therapy room I have seen. They even have reclined exercise bicycles to regain your aerobic strength as well as your muscle strength. My occupational therapist, Aileen, was top notch. She is very good with connecting with people and is a lot of fun. Wound care was great. Activities is amazing which is a really important part of recovery. I can't say enough good things about Mary. There are great activities every day. This is the only facility where the bingo cards are new and clean. All the rest were disgusting and dirty and barely worked. Plus we had blackjack on Saturdays which was really a lot of fun. Sometimes I would bet it all, knowing that if I lost they would just give me a few more chips to play until time was up. They have puzzles for some people and I took advantage of their coloring pencils and their books until I got my care package from home with my watercolor pencils. The nurses are very good and we had some fun with each other. That is important to me when you are stuck alone in a bed. I would look forward to seeing some of the CNAs, like Lori. A total professional. There were several others who really cared and were great to work with. Other than these kind individuals, the rest was stressful. The director of PT, Arjun, literally shook his head and rolled his eyes at my mother in law while in PT. He is extremely arrogant and from what I witnessed, he has zero empathy. I wouldn't recommend this place to my loved ones. They over medicated my mother in law. At times they lost their patience with her, therefore they gave her more meds to try to keep her quiet. The physician on duty showed up on his terms. Didn't know one thing about our mom, nor did he ask questions. In summary, we learned more than we ever expected about skilled nursing facilities. I understand it's a tough job, but at the end of the day, it's their job to provide care and support to their patients.
