Stayed at the Loft cabin on Thursday 10/19. I was impressed with the river- site sitting area and the websites photos so we booked a night. Unfortunately, the bugs were so bad that you had to swat away from the parking area all the way to the cabin - so we did not get to enjoy the river that afternoon. Then when we got unpacked, the place was not very clean in the areas you would expect: The base of the toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while; they tried to staple down the vinyl flooring laid up against the bath cabinet; there was black all around the sink stopper; no blinds where there should have been for privacy; bottom 6-7 slats missing in the living area; no lamps for lighting to read in the living room; dishes and eating utensils did not look very clean; and some funky towel/curtain at the toilet which faces out towards the walkway for the other two cabins. And there was only one plugin heater so we were having to move it around from room to room when the temp dropped. They need at least two. I would not rent any cabin from this site after this experience. I give it only 2 stars because of the location. The owner needs to get their act together if they're going to be in the hospitality business read more

We tried to make reservations two years in a row and finally got a weekend that was available in June. First of all making reservations could be easier if they would allow you to do so online. You have to email or call. You can't go in and check availability on a website. We stayed at the Bridge cabin which is cute and has everything you could possibly need. You do however have to bring your own bedding. The cabin in stocked with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils. They also provide a weber so you don't need to bring your BBQ. You don't really need to bring cookware with you. To get to the bridge cabin, and the other cabins, you need to cross a bridge and this can get tricky. They do however provide carts for you to carry everything across the bridge. There were two things that I didn't enjoy: the bugs and the drive up there. To get there we had to take the 49 and its a long windy road to get there. At least 45 minutes of turns. If you get car sick, I don't recommend this site unless there's a different way to get there. Had I known there was a winding road to get there that went on and on, I probably would have cancelled. This however is not the fault of Sierra Stream Side cabins. It just happens to be located off the 49. Once there, honestly there isn't much to do. The town is small, and not much there. The cabin is cute, and it was an experience, but I don't think I'd go back. It's too long of a drive, winding road is too long, too many bugs and not much to do. The sign letting you know to turn into the parkway is very small and easy to miss and needs to be bigger. It's about an 8 minute drive from town to the site. One last thing, if you are someone who needs wifi, there isn't any and you will need to drive to town and even then it might be difficult. It took two years to be able to make it there and I'm glad we did. I can cross it off my list now. read more

My husband and pup and I decided to rent the bridge cabin and so happy we did! Such a cozy pretty good size two bedroom one bath with a kitchen Nestled right along the yuba river ! The owners jim and Yvonne were amazing and accommodating keeping us posted continually as we had many fires all around California and even took the time to tell us where all the amazing fishing lakes were located! The place was clean and quiet and just amazing and beautifully situated in the forest ! I highly recommend this cute little cabin as the owners and the grounds keepers are all so nice helpful and just amazing even thou we are in troubled times with covid and the fires ! We stayed in the Bridge Cabin which was literally right next to the river. It was so nice being able to listen to the soothing sound of the river tumbling over the boulders and providing a relaxing backdrop for a quite mountain getaway. We booked the Bridge cabin for my Birthday weekend. My husband,step-son, and I felt very at home and RELAXED in this 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin. I arrived in the afternoon, and began to "move in" to our weekend retreat, while awaiting the arrival of my boys! And it was truly a "treat." No cell phone, internet, or tv. The sound of the river was enough. Completely stocked with all you need to prepare meals and dine. The beds were very comfortable, with fresh linens. Plenty of extra blankets and towels for our use. Yvonne and Paul were so informative and kind to us. One and a half day stay was NOT enough. The Bridge cabin our "home away from home." We'll be back..... :) read more

My husband and I LOVE these cabins! We stay in the log cabin duplex, but just the small side. It's enough room for us and our dog Cobalt. The patio overlooks the stream and you can almost literally fish off your balcony. Amazing. They allow pets which is the whole reason we chose these and it's pretty cheap at $110 a night. You can find that in the city at a hotel, but no awesome views or outdoor adventures to come along with it. The town of Downieville is just a quick drive away and they have cute little local restaurants to explore. You can also take a short drive to the hot springs for a late night excursion. The kitchens come fully applianced and there is a BBQ right out the door. A perfect weekend getaway for all you fellow outdoorsmen/women. Enjoy! read more

This will be a different review, but I am utterly compelled to leave it. I called and spoke with Yvonne 3 times. First to inquire about RV sites. Yvonne was very nice and answered all of my questions. A few days later, I called to inquire about cabin rental instead, since RV rental seemed so high and complicated for us (couple). Yvonne was again so helpful and made some recommendations while we were on the phone. The third time I called it was to tell Yvonne that my wife's work schedule would not permit us to make it before SSC closed for the season in early October. Yvonne was not only very understanding, but without prompting from me, she offered names of three other places for cabin rentals, and a restaurant she said we must try and reserve early on Sardine Lake. If Yvonne is this nice and pleasant and professional on the phone, then I am as certain as can be that time spent at the Sierra Streamside Cabins will be a great one. I personally cannot wait until next season to book and stay at the SSC, mainly because of Yvonne: thank you for being such a wonderful host Yvonne!! read more

We really enjoyed ourselves here. Yvonne and Jim are very nice people. Hearing the river is fantastic. It's rustic and needs a little work but that shouldn't detour you from staying here. No one bothers you from the other cabins. We stayed in the Bridge Cabin and the rate was reasonable. Good size kitchen with frig and stove. Sleeping rooms were a nice size and the bathroom was small but it worked and was clean. Bring bug repellant in the summer (remember your near the water). Close to Downieville and Sierra City. Love, love, love this place. We will be back! Had a problem with the shower and the owner came out as soon as he could to help. It ended up being an operator error. Then he came by to check on us the next morning to make sure "everything was working". We rented the Shotgun. Cute, kitchen was fully stocked with the essentials and the beds were comfy. If you are looking for a place to get away from cell phones, internet and technology this is the place to be. Situated right on the river. The funnest part for my 8 year old was the bridge we had to cross to get to the cabin...good times, good times! read more

Exactly what we hoped for! We just returned from our first of many to come stays at Sierra Streamside Cabins. Our party of four adults and 2 dogs stayed in the Bridge Cabin. Upon arrival our two dogs could not contain their excitement of running and running and running across the bridge - awesome! The carts provided to transport your belonging across the bridge, are ideal! The cabin was clean and inviting - Yvonne came over to welcome us after our arrival. Since the other cabins where vacant at the moment she gave us a tour and history of the cabins. For being built long ago - great job for maintaining them as well as they do! The cabin had plenty of cookware, newer stove and fridge. The stream is amazing and if you have dogs like ours who love being outdoors and swimming this is a must! You can find a nice rock by the stream, drink your coffee, enjoy the peace or hang out on the provided patio set. Thank you for no phones, TV or internet. There are plenty of reading books and board games in cabin for game night. The Sierras offer you vast hiking adventures; we took advantage of Yvonne's recommendation for Sierra Buttes Lookout - great views from the top. If you go take plenty of water and it is a bit windy at the summit. We will defiantly make this an annual trip - Thank you very much! read more

We stayed in Rv spot #5 loves it !!! Welcomed as we pulled in and helped getting our Rv situated in our spot . They give you firewood no one does that, so nice to not have to pay for it !! What a gorgeous setting! We just stayed at the Sierra Streamside Cabins and had an amazing time. The setting is serene, nestled in the pines and right on the rushing Yuba River. The cabin was comfortable, clean, and filled with all the necessities to make a perfect vacation. You can fish, you can mountain bike, hike, kayak, or just laze by the water (lots of lakes nearby, too). I highly recommend you stay here if you're in or near the area. Can not belief how DISGUSTING this place is. We rented the "Big House" for 2 days, We left before 24 hours. $660 down the drain. Talked the owners the morning before arriving, they had told us that their cleaning people will have the placed clean. Upon arrival the owners where their to collect our money and give us the keys. They left before we had time to unlock the door. once we got our 9 month and 4 year old across the bridge with sharp rusty wires just at eye level we discovered that we would not be able to let our 9 month old crawl on the BLACKED with DIRT floor of our cabin. Bath tubs and showers looked like they had never been cleaned. cobwebs covered everything.The floors in the kitchen looked like someone had tyied to KICK (not even SWEEP) the dirt under the oven and fridge. clumps of dog hair on all the couches and floor, which we loved considering our baby is allergic to pet. O and for the best part. While you use the shower upstairs( the down stairs one does not work) it LEAKS in into the kitchen. which means mold. Something we appreciated having Asthma and a children. while Trying to get out of this mold infested cabin we noticed that our cabin was supported by a pile of rocks. their was no way to get ahold of the owners considering their was no land lines there and no cell service. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience! read more

We stayed in the Bridge Cabin. Got there in the early evening. We weren't told that we had to schlep our belongings across a suspension bridge (that wobbles rather precariously or delightfully, depending upon your mood). After a 5 hour drive we were very tired. Walked into the cabin expecting to see a living room (as advertised on the website), and a porch (also advertised on the website). Neither one was present. The kitchen was not well stocked. 1 small frying pan, 1 large frying pan, 2 pots, both the same size. The broiling pan had no bottom. We were given 2 rolls of toilet paper and 2 garbage bags (for a 4 night 5 day stay). Nobody told us there was a supply shed that had these things in them. The notice that was on the table when we entered stated the balance due, but had nothing about the local activities and places the owners would recommend. Everything was dusty. It was freezing cold (not Yvonne and Jim's fault, but you'd think that there would be someplace to build a fire......I mean....it's a cabin)! The fire-pit is at the main setting for the other 3 cabins.....much nicer than the Bridge Cabin. The first night, the toilet clogged up and would not flush (no, we didn't put anything odd into the toilet, and realized that we should not flush our toilet paper). There is no cell phone or internet service available. There is no way to get in touch with the owners unless you drive up the road to their house. We weren't told where we could get clean towels....which were not changed each day and were pretty soiled after being in the rain for 2 days. The other thing was there was absolutely no information on where to go for dinner (if we weren't able to cook what we'd brought in because the burners on the stove weren't attached correctly either!) It would have been nice to have a rug on the kitchen floor (which was freezing cold as well). There were sharp objects in the carpet in the bedroom (we think staples). The bathroom is so small that you have to angle yourself to get in the door past the sink. The second bedroom is also way too small to house a double bed. It would be more suitable to have a futon sofa bed in this room and make it into the living room that is advertised on the web site and then add an easy chair and some ambient light in this room so that you can read on a rainy day. It would be good to have a table that you could make one of the several jigsaw puzzles that are in the cabin, without having to clear off the table that you eat upon in the kitchen. We were only two people....I couldn't imagine this cabin with four!!! Okay, enough complaining. On the good side. Yvonne and Jim are very nice. They fixed the toilet as soon as we let them know. They provided an extra heater....but we still needed to turn on the oven and have it heat up the bedroom and kitchen at night. We couldn't plug in both heaters at once for risk of blowing a fuse. Jim came down on the third day with two fly fishing poles and said he was doing a demonstration (no charge). That was fun. The dogs had a great time playing with eachother. We had a chance to look inside the Loft Cabin....a far cry better than the Bridge Cabin. Everything in this cabin was as I had imagined the Bridge cabin would have been (according to the advertising). Needless to say, we cut our stay one day short....even though the weather was looking better. We were exhausted from the stress of the first two days of not having any comfortable place to sit inside while the rain poured down. read more

We are a longtime group of friends who like a long weekend somewhere nice. When I found the Big House at Sierra Streamside Cabins, I found the best. We now make it a yearly tradition. The cabins are rustic and very cool. They have everything you need for quiet and relaxation. The owners Jim & Yvonne couldn't be nicer or more helpful. We have looked at other properties near there but would not leave our Big House. read more

Had an amazing last few days up in Downieville. A much needed, relaxing and fun vacation without having to travel very far.We were right on the clear blue river and surrounded by several lakes. Words cant even properly describe how beautiful this place is. In the couple of days I was there we hiked local trails, inter-tubed down the river, some of the rapids were a little scary, but I survived, I ate a ton of wonderful meals, was surrounded by great people and started learning how to flyfish. For those who have not tried fly fishing, seriously need to try it, make sure you have a good teacher, Jim was great and very patient even when I lost a few flies to the trees rocks, and fish... There is something about flyfishing that makes everything else in the world disappear. I was memorized by the sight and sound of the line floating through the air, as I was casting. Flyfishing is definitely not easy but is an experience that I would love to try again, and hopefully continue to improve on. If you are ever looking to get away from everyday life, and are looking to run away to the mountains for a couple days, check out Sierra Streamside Cabins in Downieville. We booked the Bridge cabin. When we went inside, we were really taken aback. The kitchen was a nice size, but there was nowhere to "hang out" inside. The kitchen was also well stocked. The big problem was the filth----everywhere. The shower was disgusting, dark, and tiny. The shower curtain was gross. The bedrooms were dirty, dark, and you had to crawl over the bed as it took up the entire room. The bed in the "bigger" room was uncomfortable. There were old newspapers stuffed in the grimy windows. A fly swatter hung uncomfortably close to the "dining" table. There were many greasy extension cords dangling down the wall. The frig was dirty. The floors were dirty. We left by 5:00 a.m. the next morning as we couldn't sleep and wanted to get out of there and disinfect ourselves. The only reason we stayed the night was at that hour there was nowhere else to go and we'd already driven for 6 hours to get there. Two thumbs down on this place. read more

My wife, son and myself stayed here recently for a week. We stayed in the Loft Cabin which has a fairly spacious kitchen/dining area, a small living room, a small master bedroom with a queen bed, a small cramped loft with 2 single beds and 1 small bathroom with shower. The bridge that separates the parking area from the cabins and crosses the Yuba River is an interesting experience especially when you have to cart all your stuff across it. The river was pretty enough but being late August it was too shallow for decent fishing. Highway 49 is pretty well right in your face from all the cabins and this time of year it's pretty busy. The cabin wasn't all that clean but we dealt with it and had a decent week of biking, hiking and exploring the area. The last full day my son and I tackled the Downieville Downhill mountain bike course at the suggestion of Yvonne the co-owner of Streamside Cabins. Well that wore us out pretty good, so we slept in a bit the next morning and got a late start on checking out. We had a lot of stuff including our bikes. Checkout was at 11am and we were running a little late, but check-in for the weekend crowd wasn't until 3 so we figured we'd be Ok as our experience (we've travelled all over the world) is that places will give people a little lee-way. Well, evidently not this place as Yvonne was extremely rude with us. When we had all our stuff transferred over the bridge to the parking area we couldn't help but notice a large group of young folks with lots of booze (that's Ok, been there-done that) waiting to check-in AT NOON! Evidently, that was the reason for the owner's hyper and extremely rude behavior. If you like being treated like this after paying somebody almost $800 for a 4 night stay at a mediocre resort than this is the place for you. I should add that part of the problem with this place is that they have only 2 carts for moving your stuff across the bridge, and there are 4 cabins. Two other parties were checking out at the same time as us and we were all competing for the 2 carts. If we had more carts we would have been checked out in time. read more
