Absolutely gorgeous. We visited in early June. This past winter's serious snow has resulted in the Yuba River really raging with a beautiful sound. Our cabin, "High Commission," is pretty much right on the river so you can sit on the deck with your morning coffee, listening to the river. Our cabin was well set up, and the property is wonderful. We had some rain while we were there, so we didn't do a fire at the communal campfire area, but we did hike around a bit based on tips from the friendly staff, and it's beautiful. Plenty of awesome stuff to do in the area, too, no matter what you're into. I'm into mountain biking, dirt biking and hiking, so I'll probably be back a bunch of times! read more

The cabins have heaters, blankets, bathroom toiletries and the kitchen is fully stocked with cooking necessities! No WiFi or service, you can drive about 45 min out to get some but it is nice to be off the grid for a few days. Highly recommend staying here!! What a great getaway! The cabin was just what we were looking for, no TV, no phones, no Wi-Fi and then to top it off, being right by the flowing Yuba River!! We were looking for a remote get-away to unwind from life's current stresses (fires/COVID19). The Lure proved to be the perfect retreat! We stayed in cabin F. Our stay was in late October, we should have brought more blankets, sweaters and socks as early morning and late nights get cold. The bathrooms were a comfortable walking distance and super clean. The Yuba river was literally right outside the front door. The website fully delivers, they do not oversell the property, it's gorgeous. There are great trails to walk and bike ride (beware biking on the divide 1,2 & 3 are for experienced riders). We can't wait to go back. read more

We rented a cabin for 5 nights for a family summer vacation. The cabin was cute and in a beautiful location. We arrived at 6 pm at night to check in and the cabin was so hot!! The was a fan and we tried to sleep in front of it but it wasn't helping. We couldn't cook or sleep at all that night because it was so uncomfortable. My dog was panting all night too. The next day I went to talk to the office and let them know that we are not comfortable and cannot stay 5 nights like this. I was of course going to pay for the night we stayed. I ended up having to pay 2,377.50 for 14 hours and a sleepless night never mind our Summer vacation was ruined. Anyhow the resort was not willing to refund anything and really didn't care that we were not comfortable or had a horrible time. Good luck. It definitely needs owners that are in the hospitality business. read more

There was also too many little buggy critters in our cabin. It is not worth the price! *And you have to clean up after yourself,..trash & dishes. Check their website for current rates and availability - it varies by season. Some cabins are great for budget-minded or people wanting just teh basics - a bed, a kitchen, and a roof over their heads. Other cabins are better appointed - heaters, lounge areas, fireplaces. A home away from home, and a great place to bring the kids. Bonuses are the Lure is just a few minutes down the road from cenral Downieville. As you can see by thier website, they are right next to a river that is actually fishable. Ther are some nice green spaces as well, for a game of tag or whatever. The owners are very nice, and do a wonderful job of answering questions or resolving concerns quickly. read more

We stayed at Camping Cabin D, the new bathroom facilities are killer, and we were always able to get in with little wait despite all the Camping Cabins sharing them and being occupied while we were there. We adore this place and have come back year after year. We typically stay for a full week. Very private, clean and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. Some of the cabins are more rustic than the others...what you can expect with the wide price range. We appreciate the fact that they allow DOGS! YAY! The Yuba river is just steps from you door and the owners have loaned us their gold pans...we sat for hours at the river gold panning. Full kitchens and all the things you need to make your stay comfortable are provided. Electric "wood" stoves are in most the cabins. We bring lots of books, cards, games. We haul most of our food up here using dry ice for the frozen goods because the grocery store in town has only very basic supplies. It is a small town, but there is enough to do if you're outdoorsy like us! read more

My husband and I have stayed at the Lure a couple times now since the re-opening and enjoyed our stay every time! We love the Downieville trails and fortunate to live only a couple hours away to make a mountain bike get away. We love how quiet the grounds are. It's pretty amazing to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the Yuba River. The Lure is an easy 1 mile bike ride on the road into town. The cabins are spacious, clean and the beds comfortable. We also love that they are a bike friendly. The Lure is a gem and is our go to place when we visit Downieville! read more

The New Lure. It's back. I never stayed at the old place so I can only comment on my first hand experience of the new old Lure. We stayed in Cabin 7 which is a studio apartment style. One big room with a separate bathroom, and a deck overlooking the river. The place has gone through some obvious renovations. The kitchen had all new appliances, counter tops, plumbing etc ... The utensils, cutlery, cookware, and glassware were also all new. We arrived late at night and had made arrangements ahead of time for the late check in. I'd forgotten exactly which cabin we were in, and was happy to find a note on the door with my name on it welcoming me. Dave and Barb are the hosts and were quick to communicate over email, as well as being super friendly and helpful the next day when I signed the registry. The whole experience was fantastic. I would not call it a luxury experience as you are after all in a cabin in the woods, but I do think of it as more premium affair. All of the touch points inside the cabin are quality products with many locally sourced. I think the rental prices reflect this more premium experience. After some discussion I found out that The Lure was purchased by a group of locals from around the region. That's good news for it's long term success. We got a chance to look around at some of the other options. There's larger multi-room cabins for larger groups, and smaller camping cabins that will be perfect when I'm going solo. Those camping cabins have access to a shared indoor shower, and bathroom. We come to Downieville several times a year for the mountain biking. Having a place like this to go after the riding for some relaxation makes a weekend of hardcore MTB into a total vacation. I can't wait to go back. read more

Just got home from an incredible weekend at The Lure. The newly remodeled cabins are clean and comfortable. All new appliances, beds, bedding, and awesome new leather sofas inside. Our cabin was right on the river edge with an amazing view and peaceful sound of the running water soothing your every sense. The fishing was great right out the front door and the grounds were well maintained. We got to meet other guests by the bonfire in the common area in the evening. Roasting marshmallows and making new friends. Very relaxing spot to get away from the sounds of home. No TV and no cell service made for a great bonding experience for the whole family. After being SIP since March and having our summer vacations cancelled we were desperately looking for a small getaway. We randomly stumbled across the Lure website. We rented four cabins for our group. Cabin number nine was the largest, with the largest deck and accommodated us all for meals outside (we brought our own folding chairs) Plenty of swimming holes on the property for adults and kids. And even though the place was fully booked it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The cabins were adorable and very clean. Check in and out were contactless and easy. Communication prior to our arrival was amazing. Very accommodating staff. Looking forward to visiting again during a different season. read more

Love love this place .It's so cute and Steve is so helpful . Ok what you need to know if you go in summer take a fan for your room it's very nice out side but the room gets hot. There is no radio r TV so bring a CD player and cds no radio station comes in and the wifi just works at the Grass .no phone in room and cell phones will not work but in town it works.and BRING BUG SPAY. But it so relaxing the water is great BBQ on your deck it so nice .have fun and relaxing very romantic .Steve thank you for all your help your a great person. read more

We were looking for a place to stay with our baby that wasn't tent camping on the Yuba River. I came across The Lure online and rented camping cabin #2 for a week. It was PERFECT! Austin and Alyssa were running the resort made us feel welcome and helped us out with whatever we needed. We had the best week. This place truly is a gem. So many hidden adventures to find on the property. If your looking for a step up from tent camping the camping cabins are awesome and they come with a beautiful view right on the river. We left feeling as tho we found a place we could keep coming back every year. They also have many other beautiful cabins that come with all the amenities. I can't wait to go back again. read more

We used to stay here a few years ago and it was nice, but this trip showed that they upgraded everything and, boy, was it nice. New beds, new gas range, full-size refrigerator, great linens and pillows, big fluffy bath towels for the tub/shower and new sinks and counters. It was amazing how comfortable we were. My brothers and I had three cabins (7, 8 and 9) but we congregated at 9 because of the larger deck. The five of us had a barbecue every night on the Weber charcoal grill. In the morning and evening we took spinning rod/reels and walked down to the river (about a hundred yards) and fished for Rainbow trout, We caught enough for a huge trout and eggs breakfast on the third day. The weather was good for us. We had the cabin windows open for three days. No mosquitos, just some pesky gnats (no biting). You can bring a dog but you pay extra. The resorts hosts were gracious and helpful with information, There is a small gdocery store and hardware store in Downieville (about a mile away) if you need milk or fishing bait. Everything you need and nothing you don't. I stayed in one of the camping cabins along the river with a group of buddies for a weekend of mountain biking. The cabins are very clean and located at the top of embankment of a beautiful stretch of the Yuba River. The cabins are no frills and that's the point. Bathrooms are clean and newly renovated. Showers are hot and the dish washing area has a two compartment sink with hot water and a pressurized washer. Definitely the nicest way to clean dishes I've ever experienced camping. I am really happy we stayed at the Lure Resort (we specifically were in the Good Hope cabin), during our recent mountain biking adventure weekend in Downieville. The cabins are right outside of town on the river, which was really a beautiful setting. We slept with the door open, so we could listen to the river while we slept. :-) We live in SF, and weren't partying in downtown Downieville, so there was no need for us to stay in the center of town, with the noise and lights. The cabin was fairly simple, with basic amenities (plates, wine glasses, dish soap, coffee maker, etc.). Only downfalls are that in my opinion this is overpriced considering that we are in the middle of nowhere, and despite staying the "housekeeping cabins" no one made our bed each day, or gave us clean towels, or did our dishes...we even took out our own trash, and swept the floor! Which is all fine in my book, but (again) simply doesn't justify the price. Also, I wish there was wireless, and the bed and comforter could've been slightly more of a $200+/night-amazing-kind-of-bed. Despite these small downfalls, I think this is nonetheless the best place to stay in Downieville, and I can't wait to return! read more

We spent a week at The Lure, our first ever visit, this past May. We had been staying at another resort in the area the past 36 years, and the owners kept raising rates whereas the cabins and furniture continued to slide downhill in regards to quality and condition. The Lure really surprised us, as it was beautifully kept up and maintained. Everything was in great working order, and we had no problems whatsoever. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and really made us feel welcome. We will no doubt be back for a repeat visit!! PS - We stayed in cabin 1, a two bedroom unit - it was fantastic! read more

We were sadly disappointed with our experience and the accommodations with our room, "The Ruby". It was entirely different than the log cabins as advertised on the website. Check for yourself, they don't show the interior of the room. When we arrived, we found that it smelled of cat urine and it was very shabby. At the time of booking, Melissa the manager stated the room was remodeled, however it clearly was not. We felt the rate was way overpriced for such a shanty room. We booked the room for a Fri and Sat night, but because of the poor condition of the room, we left the next day. We spoke to Melissa to work out a discount or a compromise and she said she would discuss our issue with the owner and to expect a call back. No call back was received, instead we called her a week later only to be told that they inspected the room and that it smelled "old". The owner, we were told,would not extend a discount or refund. The overall experience was very disappointing as we travel quite often to the Gold country and love Downieville and all the other neighboring towns on HWY 49. Unfortunately, I would absolutely NOT recommend or return. read more

We stopped for 1 night a few weeks ago. Loved the sight and sound of the rushing river and the fresh smell of the mountains. There are dishes, utensils, fridge, microwave and coffee maker, but no TV and WiFi only in two specific areas outside our cabin. We did not take any food or coffee so suggest you take your own. There is soap and towels, but bring your shampoo etc. At $248 with tax it was expensive for the off season night. Can't say enough good things about Laura, the manager. She was very helpful and pleasant. I left my jacket in the cabin after we left. She mailed it to us at her expense (we did reimburse her plus). read more

We stayed a few weeks ago, here are some things we observed during our stay, the Cottage we stayed in was Good Hope, there is mold on the blinds that is very visible, it has a ant problem so my husband went and got ant trays for our duration of stay, the Cottage itself has a very musty odor to it, so suggestion keep all windows open. Love this place. Sweet, quiet, clean and a very friendly staff. Be sure to bring plenty of food, drinks, coffee and snacks, as the store in town is very limited and has short hours. We will definitely stay again; however will bring a small fan for the bedrooms, and BUG SPRAY. Would have been 5 stars, except felt it was pretty pricey; $290 per night for the 2 bedroom cottage. Wouldn't have been an issue except guests are expected to fully clean the dishes, (no dishwasher) haul garbage, and "leave it in a clean, tidy condition". If you're paying $300 per night, you kinda expect a bit more in the way of housekeeping. Otherwise, this is unparalleled access to the river and it sings its lullaby to put you to sleep at night. We just spent the weekend here. Not impressed! The cabin was "quaint" (everyone knows what that means-small and old.) We paid about $150 per night with a deposit on top of that in case we didn't clean our own room or stole the towels and pillows. I always clean up after myself, but this was too much! No soap left in the bathroom sink or shower or else..... Had to take out our own trash. The sign says it's a resort. If by resort they mean no tv, no phone, no internet no cell service no soap no shampoo no toilet paper....it's a resort. We love Downieville but won't be staying at the Lure again. read more

Very nice resort. Cabins have decks right on the river. It faces the road but there is so little traffic you hardly notice. Cabins 1 and 2 are newer and very nice but the furniture is very uncomfortable.. Other cabins are older and a little worn but with a nice lived in feel. Beatrice was great and took care of our every need. We stayed a week and will definitely be back again. read more
