I purchased a '65 Caravel Airstream, that had some body damage that the previous owner had used bondo and painted silver. We wanted to restore the Airstream to its original condition and after searching all over we were unable to find replacement panels. In our searching, Sierra Trailer kept coming up in our searches as they had rebuilt a '65 Caravel, and they were only an hour drive from our home, so I contacted Vicki and she agreed to take a look at it. What they were able to do was magic, they were able to strip off the old bondo and smooth out all the dents and wrinkles to almost a new condition, which I never thought possible. They warned me that the process of restoring an airstream is expensive and Vicki was great in keeping me updated on all the costs. Her bookkeeping was meticulous and easy to understand. I really appreciate her and the incredible craftsmen that she employs, all the advise that she gave me and their combined knowledge base of Airstreams. I am pretty handy at doing projects like this, but at times you just have to get a professional involved, and I strongly recommend Sierra Trailer Restoration for your RV project. In addition to the body work, I had them rebuild all the windows, screens, install a new water heater and other small projects that I did not feel comfortable doing, and they were willing to do all of that. Pete and company are serious craftsmen. And they're about the nicest people you'll meet. Our first visit there began with a little tour of his property and the various projects they were currently working on. It's almost like going to an Airstream museum. We had put a pretty sizable gash in our 72 Overlander, which was a big deal to us, but nothing compared to the typical overhauls and gut renovations these guys do. Nevertheless, Pete found time to squeeze us in amidst many other projects and got the patch job done fast and beautifully. And he even helped us with a few other minor things off the clock when we picked the trailer up. We lucked out finding this shop nearby when our accident happened. I can't recommend them enough. Whatever your needs, they can 100% do it. Also, Vicki was always incredibly nice on the phone and in person and made the whole experience a pleasure. The Snyders' and their team at Sierra Trailer Restoration are amazing! Our 1965 Globetrotter turned out gorgeous! All that is left is the upholster. Unfortunately, we moved 500 miles away and will have to find someone in our new state; however, Vicki made sure she took the time to help us find the best upholstery material and foam. Vicki has wonderful taste, she really gets to know you so she can give you choices in colors, textures, etc. Her right-hand-man, Jason, is a true artist when rebuilding cabinets and other parts back to original specs. Vicki gives you regular updates on spreadsheets to show where every penny is spent. She works with you to decide what will be done and in what order. When a minor, unforeseeable, glitch happened on our maiden voyage, she offered to fix it for free. I can not recommend Sierra Trailer Restoration highly enough. If I could, I would give them 10 stars. We have a 1968 Airstream that was rear-ended, and we called several shops about repairing it. The other shops either didn't work on vintage airstreams or they were flakey, or they quoted outrageous sums for the work. Finding Peter and Vickie at Sierra Trailer made it well worth the drive from the Bay Area to their pristine and fully equipped shop. Peter is a true craftsman, who went far out of his way to source original parts and build replacement parts so they blend seamlessly into the original trailer. Vickie kept us up to date on the progress and let us know any changes in estimate. They kept our airstream covered during the whole process to protect it from the elements. They also took care of sourcing new windows for us and repair of our original fridge. Our goal was to have our airstream look identical to before the accident, and Sierra Trailer even exceeded our expectations. They finished on time and on budget. It cost me $2300 to replace the seal on 1 window and 3/4ths of another, add calking around the roof and 2 windows, replace about 3 ft. of valves and plumbing under the sink, and removed a bed. I wish they had checked in with me periodically so I had an idea of how the bill was progressing, but I only found out the day I went to pick up the trailer. Nice people and excellent craftsmen. Pete and Vicki specialize in excellent quality workmanship and highest quality parts and supplies. Their solutions to our trailer issues were absolutely top notch. I couldn't be more delighted with them. We are very new to the world of RVs and travel trailer camping, and getting good advice, and the best quality gear and repairs, has been really tough. We have been disappointed in the other RV repair shops nearby. For example, after looking around in frustration for a security lock for the hitch, I finally ended up using a standard padlock from a hardware store, which a pair of boltcutters could defeat in seconds. So for 2 years, our trailer was vulnerable. Sierra Trailer Restoration introduced us to an ultra-high security trailer ball hitch lock that would be impossible to defeat without destroying the entire hitch, and which would make it very difficult for thieves to tow the trailer away. Example #2: Another RV repair shop wanted to secure the windows using wood. The fix was very inexpensive, but I balked, because the trailer sits outside when we're not using it, so it's exposed to rain and insects. Wood is subject to rot and mildew, and insects make their homes in wood. Their mechanic found an elegant metal channel which will keep the windows secured for the lifetime of the trailer. I'll never have to worry about that problem ever again. The list goes on and on. The mechanic manufactured a lovely elegant latch to secure a fuse box door that kept popping open, a broken ventilation fan was replaced with a much higher quality fan, a metal sway bar system was welded in place so it would stop shifting around, the wobbly kitchen table got a solid secure pedestal, etc. etc. Every solution was durable, high quality, and permanent. Travel trailers (and RVs in general) are loaded with terribly cheap and flimsy parts and pieces, so you need quality durable repairs.
