Came here on a Thursday afternoon to bring in my dog Tofu to Sierra for a look at a skin condition he's experiencing. Took about 30 mins to get seen by Dr. Macfarlane and she did a great job of examining him and recommending specific treatments for him. The staff were nice and helpful getting us processed through his visit. We've been coming here for years and the treatment our pets received is good. read more

First, your 'online pharamacy' is a terrible disservice. Had I known it would take over a week to get the medication my sweet kitty needed BEFORE he died, I would have gone to Costco. Second, the $700 blood work that was done was everything the vet needed to be able to tell me that he had Leukemia. Having just lost my partner of over 20 years to it, when I received my kittys blood results, I recognized some of the indicators. I point blank asked the vet if it was leukemia. He told me 'it was too soon to tell'. What he meant was that he wanted to bleed me for $1900 before he could tell. I sent the results to my brother, who has been in oncology for over 30 years. He says the vet knew the kitty had leukemia. What an underhanded, predatory thing to do. To use the feelings of pet parents to milk them for money instead of being honest up front. This just disgusts me. So to all the other pet parents out there, BEWARE! read more

We have been taking our 2 dogs there for years and I can honestly say that over the last 2 years their service has gotten worse. The last straw for me was when they changed the breed of our dogs mind u we have been going to the same place for 6 years and they tired to charge us for 12 doses of next guard like are you serious 12 doses never going back again read more

this is the worst place. all they gave me for my sick pet was "medicine" to help with her sickness so we thought but no we just paid $100 dollars for a probiotic and they give us a paper telling us to go to any pharmacy to get the CORRECT medication and i go to 6 different ones. CVS, Walgreens, and Costco and they all said they DO NOT give that out there. waste of money with the appointment and the "meds" we thought was gonna help her. no communication whatsoever or an offer to order it for us or a specific location. do better for our pets not your pockets. read more

They have a new groomer, Jameson, he is excellent. Chewbacca and Onyx have never looked better. They stay looking really good longer. I love having my dogs groomed at my vet, it saves time, they get their.shots and their groom at the same time. read more

HORRIBLE!!! I have been taking my fur babies to this clinic for grooming for over sixteen years and this is the first time I have anything negative say and this is HUGE! I took my four year old mini schnauzer in for grooming and asked for a regular traditional cut. When I picked him up, his haircut looked as if a five year old groomed. hair on the body was choppy and unevenly cut: the faces cut is short in places it should be long and long where it should be short; the beard chest and ears are chopped off with the wrong cut each place. My dog looks more like a stray than a $70 groin job. What is worst than the grooming, my dog's mouth and surrounding hair wreaked of urine. He peed all over me and in front of the office and outside for a long time. He never has done this before. When We got in the car, he wanted water. He drank almost 16 ounces without stopping. So was he not allowed to go pee the 7 hours he was there? And was he not given water during his stay? I was told by staff to bring him back next week to shape the face hair. There is so much more that was wrong with the grooming. I do not recommend this place to anyone who loves animals. Staff was pleasant we had no harsh words. read more

Was looking for a new vet when of course emergency happens! My dog had a pretty gnarly open wound on his tail. They were able to get me an appointment next day. They were super compassionate and caring not wanting to scare my dog as he isn't the best at the vet and on top of it was in pain. I really appreciated their slow approach, understanding of his behavior, and empathy. They brought the estimate and when I choose not to do the expensive blood work I didn't feel looked down upon in any way shape or form! Where to begin! Rude, Incompetent, Uncaring and Unprofessional! My poor 12 year old cat was there one month ago and after 900 dollars he is worse off now than before. I have taken him elsewhere and spent money to get the same tests done ( since they couldn't be bothered to respond to the new vet and share the results) and low and behold I have an actual very sad diagnosis and it would've been nice if they would've done their job and found it a month ago! I had my dog seen for an ear infection and was talked into a lot of expensive and unnecessary tests- total amount $700. My mother in law was told she could not leave until I called in with payment. We got a new dog and they were referred to me buy a friend. My dog fell in love with the tech there. Such a great crew there. It's not cheap, but they do a great job! I would rather go to a place I know will do a great job than a cheaper spot that I'm questionable about their "quality". read more

I needed my huskies checked for heart worm and Sierra was willing to do a two-husky-for-one-appointment evaluation early in the morning (let alone it be Jan 1st) to get that done. Super convenient and really appreciated how accommodating they were, especially for it being my first experience with SVH. I actually ended up making an appointment for my third dog to be evaluated after moving back to the area from the Midwest. All the staff are kind, the vets make sure to take their time and explain in detail what they're doing, the reasoning behind their decisions and you don't feel particularly pressured to go one way or the other. Brought my Dalmatian here for the first time last month. He was in just for a check up and some shots. At a previous vet he was abused so he is very fearful and in the past needed a muzzle but he quickly warmed up to Dr. Yao as soon as she started in with the butt scratches. After that he was in love. When she was bringing him into the back to get his shots and stuff done he completely forgot about me, I was chopped liver! lol. Will definitely be back! read more

We've been going to Sierra for some time now and, for the most part, it's been an O.K. experience. Recently visited again and we have started to notice a thing or two. 1. Cost - Is it me or has the costs gotten a bit ridiculous? We're good with the exam fees etc...etc... It's the medication. We were explicitly told neither of the medications we needed were available online and so we bought what the vet had on hand. Upon returning home and researching, we paid TWICE as much at the vet vs. Chewy. Look, times are tough all over and we get it. However, this was nearly a $100 difference between what we were charged at the vet vs. what we would have paid online and that's significant. 20 - 30%, fine. 100% markup is unacceptable. 2. A take off #1...what's with telling us we "couldn't" get this medication online? That's just dishonest. 3. On our way out we were "trying" to pay and was told our payment method was "locked." Not sure what that's about. We were able to sort that out and got on our way. Just a final "stamp" on a visit that was a bit shocking. Folks, the people (Vet, techs and office staff) seem nice enough and we've never had "that" type of problem but the financial end of it is cold and excessive. I get it, they're trying to run a business but, when it comes to MOST people's pets, cost is the driving factor. If you want repeat customers, be honest. Nothing wrong with saving your customers a little bit of money. In the long run we would appreciate it, feel good about taking our pet back for other needs and it's a win/win for everyone. read more

Sadly, my opinion of this vet has changed.. The doctors and techs are super nice but the front desk has had so many issues with documentation, it's been ridiculous. I've taken my puppy there in the past and when I called to have her documentation emailed to me, they couldn't find it.. Second situation being they charged me incorrectly for a visit and then sent me a bill in the mail for remaining balance.. When I called to question the bill, the receptionist told me she was looking at the wrong dog's information when she charged me. It's just worrying that they aren't paying attention to details and will be taking my business elsewhere as I'm just tired of the hassle. read more

I should've updated this review years ago. The TL;DR version is that they took so long to get back to me about my pet's test results that I ultimately had get an employee to print out all documentation and take my pet to an actually reliable vet. My pet had to be put down. A lot of this could've been prevented if the doctor didn't take up to a week to try to even get back to me, regardless of me calling daily for an update. They're unreliable. I'd suggest going anywhere else but here. read more

I have a Catahoula/Hound mix who got into a bit of a scuff with my Catahoula/ Pitty mix. They were very accommodating in allowing me to bring him in as an emergency, as long as I dropped him off. Both of my boys utilize this vet and have had a great experience each time we go. We are always met with smiles. We all need to understand and have patience when dealing with our pets and vets. While our pets are our family, we need to be realistic in our expectations. The front staff is great and only human. Please be kind. :) read more

i am really happy with my recent experience with Sierra Vet. Our dog Opie has been here three times prior. Previous visits were all for small things. Once for a grooming and once for shots and once a minor issue. grooming- we really love the grooming here. they always send them home with a cute little scarf and smelling great. their prices are better then most groomers so that is a wonderful plus as well. the downside for us, they only groom on weekdays and we work during the week so its not very often we get to take our Opie here. (insert sad face here) staff- the staff is wonderful. even though opie has only been here a handful of times, whenever i have a concern or question, i can call and they will provide any answer and help that they can so i am not bringing him in and spending money for small things. they are all very courteous and i never hear them having side bar conversations or speaking inappropriately in front of their clients. i really appreciate this. all of the ladies in front seem to have a lot of energy and you can tell they all work as a team and that is also important. Dr. Damron is Opie's doctor and shes a doll as well. she answers all our crazy dog loving questions even when i half expect her to roll her eyes lol. Opie recently became ill and needed to stay at the clinic for two nights. the cost was definitely a worry for us, but Dr. Damron broke it all down and made sure we understood it all. It ended up coming out less then the estimate, which is always a good thing, because they will factor in things and try to give you a "high estimate" so there are no surprises. i have left reviews on other vets on here before, and one of the places is disgraceful and cause a very heartbreaking situation for my family. so with Opie becoming sick, it was very hard on our family. It was hard to witness our little fur baby not feeling well. it was hard being reminded of the loss of a previous dog with similar symptoms. it was hard putting our trust in another Vet after such a horrible experience with one before. i know this is a lengthy review, but if you pay attention to anything at all, pay attention to this... Opie was in the treatment room when Dr Damron told us he would have to stay over night... I asked if we could say good bye to our baby, and they brought him in, shut the door and gave us time to alone with our little guy. I called 4 times the next day to check on him, and the techs there text messaged us pictures of our Opie so we could see how he was doing. They called and encouraged us to come visit Opie when we found out he had to stay a second night. They let us come take him for a walk and spend as much time as we wanted as long as we were mindful of his IV. all of these things, is great customer service. this is exactly how you treat a client. all of the tears and heart ache and how scared we were the first night, was easily gone come morning because of the staff here. read more

They have an amazing way of bonding with kitties and pups. Their cordial attitude is infectious and it has a calming effect on me. They have addressed every question I have had and given me advice that I greatly needed especially with my pup's skin infections. Not very happy with this office.d I was once a long time client with my dog but followed my vet doctor to another location. So my Senior dog needs a special dog food. My normal that was out of stock. They were willing to write a prescription for the dog food . I called Sierra vet so I could purchase the food from them and make sure it was in stock. Apparently the owner decided that you are not allowed to buy any prescription dog food from them even with a prescription unless you see one of THEIR doctors and pay for a thorough exam. I went to them because they were a close to my home and convenient because my dog was out of food. But obviously once again this place only cares about money. I can see why Many of the good doctors left that place. I laugh as I am writing this because if they truly cared about a pet's health and wanted to make money they would have filled my prescription and let me buy food for my dog. read more

Have been taking my animals here for years! Recently, customer service has tanked. They cancel appointments multiple times. Then by the time they get the pets in, they tell us the morning of that they need another shot and can not do it. Has happened three times now. You'd think after multiple contacts, asking if they are up to date and everything is good to go, to be told the morning of, is absolutely ridiculous. On top of that, never once an apology. So unprofessional and we will definitely be finding a new vet for all of our own, family, and friends animals. read more

The staff and doctors at Sierra Vet are so friendly and kind. You definitely get the sense that they all want what's best for your pet. I recently brought in our cat Graycie because she was having urinating issues. She was thoroughly checked over and tests were performed to rule out any life threatening conditions, then sent home with a treatment program. I also bring our Border collie, Lexi, to Sierra Vet for all of her needs. I highly recommend this establishment and its well trained staff 100%! read more

I've been bringing my kitty Henry to Sierra Vet since we moved to Stockton five years ago. Dr. Conlin and the vet techs are very professional and kind to Henry. Henry has quite a few health issues as he is a senior, and Dr. Conlin does all she can to give Henry the best care possible. We are very pleased with Sierra. We moved from the Bay Area so compared to the pricing there, Sierra's pricing is quite fair. Sierra has even worked Henry into the schedule the same day on an urgent basis when he has had a serious health issue. Normally they are booked out a week or two. They are convenient to get to and have lots of parking. The only negative thing I can say is that their metal benches in the waiting room are horribly hard and uncomfortable when you have to sit an hour or half hour in them. I always leave with a sore bum, but getting Henry treated is more important than fur parent's seating comfort. Definitely bring your pet here, and a cushion to sit on. read more

Been taking my kitty to this Vet for over 16 yrs. and when an urgent appointment @ 7:00 am is needed that day for a follow up check from the Emergency Vet at All Creatures earlier that morning (midnight to 2:00 am) for Blood in the Urine & history of Kidney Issues this Clinic/Hospital would not see him & was referred to another Vet. Sierra Vet Clinic & Hospital is no longer practicing as such. WTF???? All his records are here!!!! Unfortunately, due to high turnover of staff/vets/lack of customer service & request of Office Manager due to poor communication, a new office was located. We no longer have our rescue kitties or Malberian, but now have a very challenging Siberian Husky, Cheyenne Silver. He already weighs close to 77 pounds at 1 1/2 years. His sire was a giant wooly type Husky and Dr. McCleary confirms our Boyo too will be huge. He is headstrong and takes special handling, also something of an escape artist. The entire staff at Sierra Vet Clinic greets each of our pets warmly and by name. We are always able to get an appt. with a week's time-sooner if the matter is urgent and during regular hours. Our oldest dog, Malabear is nearly 13 and requires special care as well. Dr. Damron was concerned about her weight gain and sluggishness and a few years ago diagnosed her with underactive thyroid and she is currently on essential medication that has really turned things around despite her moderate hip dysplasia. Malabear hates having her nails trimmed, but for all her grooming needs special care is taken and the repot we get is that she isn't biting! Nikki, our 6 1/2 year old Siberian Husky has a blown knee, and we have been treating this conservatively with weight loss diet and a few over the counter supplements the Doctors are aware of and willing to allow-no push for expensive surgery or unnecessary extras. Being both disabled and retired, saving where we can is paramount. Sierra Vet Clinic offer special rates if you have multiple pets as we do, also grooming coupons now and again, and certain days of each month for nicer, senior rates! read more

I posted a review last month. I was contacted by the Hospital Administrator, Debbie Ruby, shortly thereafter. She wanted to know what could be done to resolve the issue. I told her I did not know. This week I called and scheduled an appointment for my puppy's second set of shots. I received an email today that it had been brought to her attention that I scheduled an appointment for my puppy. She said to call her to discuss and resolve the issue (change my yelp review is my guess) or my puppy's appointment would be canceled. I responded that I'm entitled to my opinion and that we won't always see eye to eye. She responded that she has canceled my appointment and that I should seek medical care for my pets from another veterinarian. This place doesn't want your business if you don't agree with everything they say. Most businesses want feedback, negative and positive, so they can improve their services. My beloved cat has been a patient at Sierra for over a year. She's a healthy adult feline. But with any aging pet, I had questions about managing her weight and caring for her teeth. Super nice staff 10/10. Unfortunately they were unable to groom one of my cats I dropped off due to her refusing to allow them to groom her and that was totally fine! This did cause some non-recognizing aggression between my two cats who I have never even heard hiss once since I've had them. They're from the same litter and have such horrible behavior after this grooming. They also have been groomed since kittens with absolutely 0 problems so I was a little confused on what went wrong here. Maybe it's just wasn't a good day for her or whatever but this grooming appt caused such a stressful evening. Not to mention they didn't know which cat got groomed and which didn't. read more

Was turned away this morning because they don't have a vet till after 8. Was told they didn't know why there's no vets from 6am until after 8 or 10AM, and I just needed to wait. This is so far wrong, cold blooded people. No one who actually cared and advertised as caring about families and pets and emergency services would turn away a sick pet and her 9 year old human! I have been going to Sierra vet now for 8 years. in that time they have treated six dogs and three cats that my wife and I have owned. They have constantly and constantly done an outstanding job treating my animals - all of their vets and techs have been friendly and knowledgeable. I wound up coming to Sierra vet because another vet in Stockton - waited until a specialized piece of equipment came on truck round to their clinic rather than referring the job to someday else to find out what was going wrong with my dog - this delay caused my dogs death eventually. On the other hand if it is something that Vets at Sierra can't tackle immediately - they find a Specalist for my animals ASAP I am extremely pleased and happy with the care the four dogs I have not get from Sierra. I enjoy taking them there - because - my dogs have no fear going there - too awesome to describe - there doctoring is top notch. read more

I've only written one other review for a business and it was a positive one! I'm definitely not one for taking the time to even write reviews, but I'm so bothered I had to. We've taken our pets to a different vet for years, but they are so booked out after losing their main veterinarian, we decided to give Sierra a try. Our dog had a litter of 6 puppies and they needed all their shots. The first experience we parked outside waiting a while (a car full of 6 puppies and my toddler in her car seat) puppies jumped over seat, scaring my daughter so I had to go in the back and open the door to help get situation in order.. well the puppies escaped the car.. 6 of them.. I panicked and just put them inside the vet and closed the door while I tried to gather other ones. The girl scolded me for so long while I'm running around, obviously I didn't mean to let them out in the parking lot. She sat their irritated and being so rude, scolding me, instead of actually helping me wrangle the puppies. She made me feel so dumb! Just a mom trying with a toddler and 6 puppies doing the best I can! Second time for shots.. My father in law took them in his truck, might be easier.. we only had 4 puppies this time (others got homes) we thought the appointment was at 12:30, obviously an honest mistake since it was at 11:30. The lady told us rude when we got there. So, Understandably, we asked if we could still squeeze them in for their parvo shot, and she pulled her computer up and said "it SAYS clearly your appt is at 11:30, and it shows that you saw it".... SO RUDE!! We were aware the first time she said it :( .. there was nobody in parking lot or inside even waiting and she said they cannot take them (again we understood, we were just asking) I think she was more irritated than anything and that's why she couldn't squeeze them in. Regardless, we will just have to take our pups to another vet. Just honestly really rude people working here. We love our pups and life happens.. Sad that the girls working there have zero customer service and can be so openly rude to their customers. Hope whatever is causing them so much stress there, gets improved! read more

So I brought both of my shihtzus to get groomed and they did an excellent job! They both look so good! They loved it! No muzzle was needed for my Weezy and that tells me a lot! They offer a 50% off grooming for new clients and the grooming cost for my dogs is actually about $15 cheaper than what I used to pay before! Definitely recommend this place!!! read more

This Vet is absolutely outstanding. I had to put my 2 year old pit bull mix to sleep 10/2/17. I brought him in and Dr Lukars was very straight forward with me on the cost of any tests and procedures that may need to be done and the likelihood of him making it through the procedures. Rocko had a tear in his intestine and was slowly being poisoned. I made the decision to put him to rest. While I was saying goodbye to my baby a dark liquid came up from his mouth. The Dr reassured my mom after I left the office that I had made the correct decision in letting him go. He would not have made it through one more night. The staff is absolutely amazing as well. Very kind hearted and apologetic for my loss. I definitely recommend this place. They are not greedy like a lot of other vets and truly want to help your fur babies. read more

Needed to spay my recently pregnant dog. So I took my dog to this vet. I was told my dogs coulnt be vaccinated and was still charged for absolutely no service that benefited me. I am very dissatisfied with this vet. Will not be returning to be charged for no service or products. Why are these people working on animals if they have no skills with them?! I felt screwed over by this place every time I've gone this will be the last time I patron this establishment. I would like to say thank you to dr Yao she is the best vet I have taking my animals to ,she has been treating my dog for cancer over the past year (which she cought that the other vet office didn't just a month prior ) her bedside manner is awesome she never makes me feel rushed at all and answers all my questions thoroughly ,today when I went in for babes check up babe was laying on the ground relaxing when dr Yao entered the room and the first thing dr Yao did was get on the ground with my dog and do her examination on the floor while she was just laying there ,I can't say enough about this dr my only complaint is I wish I would have found her sooner lol ,oh ya and a couple years ago she had to put down my 17 ur old chihuahua and that was my very first experience with her and she was so kind hearted ,I dint even no they was closing and she let me stay as long as I needed to deal with the loss of my dog ,I hope she never leaves lol ,me and my animals appreciate you ! read more

When I moved from Alameda to Stockton four years ago, I was very concerned about whether my little high-medical-need Maltese would receive the same level of care of his previous vet. How could I possibly find a vet who could care for him in the same way as the vet who knew him from his puppyhood, who had painstakingly diagnosed his myriad of conditions, and who had served him with such dedication? Then, a local Stockton friend referred me and my little guy to Sierra Veterinary Clinic.  WOW. Basic logistical stuff first: Their lobby is clean and large enough to accommodate a variety of folks and fur-kids while waiting. They also have complimentary coffee. :) Their prices are on the more reasonable side of average. I neither felt price gauged nor did I feel like it was bargain care. They always provided a range for larger services (like dental, for example) and I never felt "upcharged." It always felt like I was paying a fair amount for what we were receiving. And that's good enough for me. Care began as soon as we would walk through the door. The folks in the front of the house always made us feel welcome and held. These are folks who really know their job and who, despite having to deal mostly with the human end of vet service, maintain the kind of genuine warmth that we humans need when we're dealing with a stressful situation like taking a fur-kid to the doctor.   My little guy's care would begin with a visit with the vet techs. I honestly believe that vet techs are the unsung heroes of fur-kid care (much like medical assistants and nurses in the human-care world) and it's clear that Sierra only brings the best on-board. Every vet tech with whom we interacted (and I think we may have interacted with all of them over the course of four years) was the perfect combination of both deeply skilled professional and ultimate animal lover. They did everything possible to gather information while also helping to keep both kid and parent calm. I always felt that we were in good hands and that was the energy created by the vet techs. The doctors--Dr. Yao (who we saw once or twice), Dr. Gillam (who we saw multiple times), and Dr. Cleary (who provided most of my little guy's care)--are highly skilled, totally professional, deeply compassionate, and scientifically curious medical practitioners. At least half of my kid's visits were because of something mysterious and they never over-simplified nor gave the "low-hanging fruit" explanation (as so many human-care doctors do). I always felt like they genuinely cared about figuring it out AND the decisions on the course of action were always mine to make; they never made me feel like I was a "good parent" or a "bad parent" based on what option I could afford. Perhaps the greatest compliment I can give, though, is simply that they earned my TRUST quickly and maintained it over the course of four challenging years of caring for my baby, one of my life's great loves, for whom I would have done anything in my power to provide a long, healthy, happy life.  When my then-12-year old guy started showing significant decline in his overall health (canine cognitive disorder, to start, followed by a landslide of additional physical issues), Dr. Cleary was there to answer my questions and to help me to understand what to look for when it came time to make the hardest decision of my life. He lasted for nine more months after that initial end-of-life conversation, during which time Dr. Gillam and Dr. Cleary made me feel like they were equally as invested as I was in ensuring that his remaining time was as happy and comfortable as possible. And at the end, when it was obvious that it was time to say goodbye to my little guy, the entire team held me through the process. Sometimes, it's the little things, like setting us up in a room that was away from the treatment rooms so we could have some privacy and coming to me to take care of payment while we were in between the phases of the process so I didn't have to think about it after it was done and allowing me to leave via the backdoor when I was concerned about the other folks in the waiting room and didn't want them to be exposed to my enormous grief. From beginning to end, Sierra provided superior care to my beloved little guy and to me.
