Dr. Kay helps you feel at ease and is happy to answer any and all questions one might have at any point of the exams. He explains what each assessment does and how it helps him determine the best course of action to improve one's vision. He seems to really like to get to know his patients and is always handy with a quip to keep it light and help patients feel comfortable. Three weeks ago, I had a full eye examination with Dr. Wise, an ophthalmologist (MD) in Florida. Since I have worn glasses since high school, all I needed at this visit was a new prescription after losing my glasses. Last year, I also had a full exam at LensCrafters in Aventura, where the front desk clearly explained all costs and insurance coverage before my appointment. That visit was handled transparently and professionally. At MyEyeDr, however, the front desk did not explain what my insurance would or would not cover. During my appointment, a technician took retinal images without informing me that this would result in a $44 charge. I should have been told in advance and given the choice to decline. In addition, I was charged $140 for a contact lens fitting that was never discussed with me beforehand. The optometrist attempted multifocal lenses, which did not work for me. I was the one who had to suggest the lens setup I normally use (one lens for distance), and only then did he agree it would work. This left me feeling the fitting was unnecessary and not worth the fee. At checkout, I was presented with a bill of $640 that included these undisclosed charges. I was not prepared for such an amount and chose not to proceed with the purchase. The interaction with the sales associate afterward was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Because I was not informed of these additional services or fees beforehand, I am requesting a refund of the $44 retinal image fee and the $140 contact lens fitting fee. I believe this is a fair resolution given the lack of transparency and communication at my appointment. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Met with the store rep Juan who was very professional and explained that the optometrist is at another location today but works in-store Mon, Thurs and Sat. My vision insurance covers most optometrist consults and exams in addition to a big portion of the frames and lenses. Juan showed me several sunglasses including Oakley for $250.00 before insurance. Ray-Ban would be a close second to Oakley. The store is very classy with dark wood finishes and glass. A few low tables for sitting with the rep for comfortable discussions and glasses fittings.

When I think about the vision I had before he worked with me compared to now, I am supremely thankful! His office staff is top notch! He does talk a lot, but he is invested in his patients. If you'd prefer that he be quieter, just let him know. We have had some great conversations and he has gotten me out of quite a few jams when I've had issues with my contacts. My eye got better quickly. I've been to a few different eye doctors the last few years and Dr Haiman by far is the best. He takes time to listen and then try to find a solution. I saw it as an investment, something that would last. But only a few months later, she started telling me she couldn't see well again. This was a huge issue because she loves to read it's one of her main joys and ways to stay engaged. I wasn't sure what to do next. I hesitated to take her to another doctor, wondering how her vision could change so quickly. But I started calling around, only to find that most eye exams were $200-$400, which was out of reach financially. Then I found Optical Express at Bascom Palmer (University of Miami Eye Institute) offering exams for just $100. I was honestly apprehensive about the quality of care at that price, and some of the Yelp reviews made me even more unsure but I went ahead and got us on the cancellation list. Luckily, they called with an earlier appointment. And I'm so glad I gave them a chance. The doctor who saw my mom was absolutely incredible. From the moment we walked in, he was warm, patient, and kind. He immediately noticed that my mom had a disability, and he took extra care to explain everything clearly to her never rushing, never frustrated, just deeply compassionate. He treated her like family. As her caretaker, I'm usually the one explaining things to her after appointments, but he took that burden off my shoulders. It meant a lot. Even more importantly, he discovered that the original prescription she'd received last year was incorrect. He spent 30-40 minutes carefully examining her vision and correcting the mistake. I saw a review saying a doctor only spent 5 minutes with them but that couldn't have been further from our experience. He was thorough and thoughtful. After the exam, we went over to the glasses side of the clinic, and I was bracing myself for another high bill. But Natasha who helped us was so kind and understanding. She listened to our situation and worked with us to find a price we could afford. She even helped me brainstorm ways to get my mom back to the clinic (since she doesn't drive), going above and beyond in every way. We're coming back next week to pick up the new lenses, but I already feel confident recommending this place to anyone especially if you're looking for a compassionate, competent doctor and staff who truly care.

This review has two parts…read more One: I think Dr. Bearden is a great optometrist. The exam I had was for both contacts and glasses and it was one of the most thorough exams I have had. She is very easy to talk to, and my last eye doctor barely said much, so I appreciated how comfortable she made me feel. The drawback was how dilated my pupils stayed - I honestly found it difficult to do much the rest of the day so definitely plan accordingly. (Honestly, Uber or have someone drive you back home because it won't be safe to drive on your own). For years I have avoided glasses because my eyesight is so terrible that I end up with near coke bottle glasses, but Dr. Bearden recommended the thinner high index lenses, which I went with. I also was getting contacts, and even though I had the twice a week kind, in all truth sometimes I would go longer without changing them out. Part two: So, Dr. Bearden ended up switching me to daily contacts. I've been using the for a few months but haven't noticed a significant difference in how my eyes feel. As for glasses, the selection of frames seemed OK but in hindsight are limited to what I was looking for. But I still went with a pair. When I did pick up my glasses I was a bit bummed that the lenses were still thicker than I hoped and I wasn't 100% happy. The cost for the exam, eyeglasses and several months of contacts was no joke. Thankfully I had vision insurance but it was still well over $700 total. One of the other things that rubbed me the wrong way was that during my initial visit a customer came in asking for their RX and she gave them a speech and disclaimer about buying elsewhere/online. But here's the thing, according to the FTC there are laws in which you are supposed to get your RX for both your eyeglasses and contacts after your exam or fitting with no questions asked. Ironically, during my visit I did not get my prescriptions and later had to go back to get them. As for my glasses, I ended up buying another pair for a fraction of the price from Zenni Optical (an online retailer) and was super happy with them because they had the thinest lenses available plus tons of styles. Overall, I'd say this is great place for an exam but go elsewhere for ordering your contacts and glasses.
