I have significant mobility challenges and require adaptive equipment on a vehicle to enable me to…read moredrive safely and legally. I pre-arranged for the equipment to be in place with Enterprise Rent-a-Car at the Jacksonville FL Airport for my trip weeks later from Boston, MA to visit my daughter, who had recently purchased a house in Jacksonville and was expecting me to land just after 7:00 PM on Wednesday June 12, 2024. I called Enterprise a week before my trip to ensure that the necessary equipment was in place and I was told by the customer service rep that everything would be ready for me when I arrived. I was looking forward to the visit, it was my Father's Day gift. We planned to meet for dinner at a restaurant near my daughter's house, given the time I was scheduled to arrive. My plane was on time, and I proceeded directly to the Enterprise location at JAX Airport (in a non-airconditioned airport garage, 92 F) where I was told that my vehicle "...was being equipped with the adaptive equipment now. It had not been done yet". So, what about all my pre-visit arrangements? I guess they were useless as I was again at square one with my car rental. I called and told my daughter that I would find my way to her and the restaurant once I was in the car which was promised to me "...shortly, 15-20 minutes." After sitting in that sweltering garage for the next 2 hours waiting for the car, I was finally led to a car that was "all set". Unfortunately, they had installed the wrong adaptive equipment and I could not safely or legally operate the vehicle. It was 9:30 PM at that point and I had called my daughter about an hour earlier to let her know that dinner was probably not in the cards as she had to work early the next morning. It wasn't until after 11 PM when I finally got the properly equipped car that I had "pre-arranged" for. Although they had my payment information from my original booking, 2 different Enterprise reps told me before I left that garage (one as I was driving out), that I would not be charged for the two days that I had arranged to have the car. I didn't get to my daughter's house until well after midnight so, 6/13. My daughter had gone to bed 2 hours before and we did not see each other until the following evening when she got out of work. So, not only did I lose the evening and a dinner reservation with my daughter, in Jacksonville, but that night's sleep extended through the entire following morning. I was so exhausted from my Enterprise nightmare that I was wiped out all day once I did wake up. I didn't leave the house as I was exhausted all day. I didn't see my daughter (or even use the car again) until a full 24 hours after I arrived! From that point, we used my daughter's car for our visit and I returned the vehicle to the Enterprise on Atlantic Blvd in Jacksonville as I had pre-arranged, on Friday 6/14 @ 5 PM when my daughter got out of work. I only had the car for 41 hours and 90% of the miles that I drove the car were to & from the airport and my daughter's house. It couldn't have been much more than 30 miles. The manager at that location talked with me while we waited for the final paperwork. He then said with a smile, "...Oh, they're not charging you at all!" (which I was fully expecting) and gave me the papers to leave. In early September, I noticed that the full Enterprise charge of 2 days, $139, was still on the debit side of the credit card statement with no adjustment. So, of course, I called Enterprise at the Jacksonville Airport on Thursday, Sept 12 and eventually spoke to a Customer Service rep who told me that "...these issues have to be addressed by management so, I'm sending it along and they will call you in a couple of days". Two weeks later I and I had not heard from them, so I called again and went through the whole issue again, as if it was the first time as the rep had no information/notes from the two other times this issue was at point. After I went through it all again, the rep responded with the same thing I heard on my call on Sept 12; I would receive a call from management in the coming days. When I told him that that is what I was told 2 weeks prior, he responded by telling me that he can't tell me how long before I hear from them. That call was over almost 2 weeks ago. I have not heard from Enterprise and the charges are still on the statement. I'm on a fixed income and that car charge is an expensive regret in my car-rental history. I will never book with Enterprise again!
