Came here with a friend to catch up and the food here was great! The Marinated short ribs were delicious and so was the army strew. The army stew was not only flavorful but also had a bunch of toppings inside. The servers were super attentive and even asked us if we wanted our hot pot to be reheated once it sat for a while as we chatted. That being said, I do want to point out that I believe this place is more suited for a bigger group of people. My friend and I enjoyed everything about the meal however, the hot pot was huge and we finished only like 1/4 of it and ordering the meats was a little weird. I am use to going to KBBQ where they tell me that the minimum meat orders is 2 but here, you must at least have two orders of any meat you choose. We both wanted the marinated short ribs with pork belly but ended up with two orders of the marinated short ribs because we were more in the mood for something marinated. Now, this is just a preference of ours but in case you want more of a variety of foods, I would recommend coming here with a bigger group of friends and grabbing a few drinks as well! read more

We eat Korean bbq a lot so I think we have pretty high standards. Sik Gaek was so amazing! It wasn't all you can eat but the quality of the food really came through. All the meat cuts we had were great but our favorite is always marinated kalbi. The starter salad was also a favorite. It's a fun ambiance for family dinner (a little noisy with the kpop music) but they were very nice and turned down the volume upon request. They cook the meat for you. Came in on what looked like a slow Monday afternoon -- only one other table was occupied in the whole restaurant. We ordered a few dishes, and honestly, everything was pretty mid. Portion sizes were decent, but that didn't make up for the lack of flavor. We didn't even bother trying the KBBQ grill because the prices were ridiculous -- over $90 for just three types of meat? For that price, you could get all-you-can-eat KBBQ elsewhere. Makes no sense. It almost feels like good service is reserved for the people who spend big on their overpriced meats, just because that means a bigger tip. But honestly, even if the food had been good, it still wouldn't have made up for the poor service. Our server, Mike, took our order and then vanished. I'm not exaggerating -- we saw him chilling in the back, fully tuned into his computer screen, smiling and laughing. Just because it's a slow day doesn't mean you get to check out completely. Meanwhile, the couple next to us -- who did order the grill -- were getting great service. Maybe it's because they spent more, or maybe Mike just didn't vibe with us for whatever reason. I recently had dinner at Sik Gaek for the first time with my husband and brother, and it was somewhat of a mixed experience. We had ordered delivery once before during but hadn't been in person (we usually head to Flushing or K-town for Korean food). I will start by saying that it was rather busy for a Sunday night, and there was only one server working for the first hour that we were there. He was visibly overwhelmed and I felt really bad for him, so we willingly grilled our own meat, which he seemed to appreciate. The food overall is decent. IMO the quality of the meat isn't as great as some of the spots in Flushing and K-town, but it's certainly way better than Wonder Pig. I liked their kimchi jeon and kimchi jigae as well. I wish they brought out steamed egg and cheese corn on the house like other places, but it wasn't a big deal to pay for it. I do really wish they would improve their banchan game (including refills) and bring out raw garlic and jalapeños with the lettuce. Also, the lettuce we received had seen some better days and was brown in spots. All in all, I would give this place a 3.5 but am rounding it up to 4 because I feel sorry for the staff and because it's a decent Korean spot for this part of Queens. read more

I hate to be an outlier in the plethora of pleasant reviews, but I had a mediocre Korean BBQ experience here on a Sunday evening. The ambiance is 10/10 though with plenty of group seating available and a large TV screen showing K-pop music videos. We got the takoyaki as a starter and given this is a well-known Japanese snack, we should have known better not to order it in a Korean spot. The takoyaki balls were way smaller in size than any other takoyaki I've had elsewhere. There were barely any dried bonito shavings and no green seaweed sprinkles on the dish. The batter was a bit undercooked and the diced octopus slice inside each ball was quite small. I wouldn't recommend this starter. For kbbq, they don't have a ton of different combo options: 2 beef and 1 pork option to be shared between 2-3 people and 1 mixed option for 3-4 people. We opted to get the non-combo option as the combo prices were higher than Manhattan prices (think on par with and maybe even higher than Jongro). Note that if you order two different meats, your bbq will not get cooked in front of you, and if you order beef brisket, they require for you to do a minimum of two orders since the beef needs to be sliced once you order. Needless to say, this was a rule heavy menu, making it hard for us to select different meats without breaking the bank. We opted to get two orders of the beef brisket to get our meat cooked in front of us. The brisket was thinly sliced, but still had lots of chewy and tough parts, not dissolving in your mouth at each bite. The kbbq did come with 2 orders of rice, lettuce, and some onions and mushrooms to be grilled along with your meat. The banchan was varied and overall solid. The portions of banchan in each bowl were quite small though, which made it awkward for us having to keep asking for refills every time. They have a good selection of drinks, including a few flavors of soju and makgeolli. The grapefruit soju is delicious and cut the grease of the meat perfectly. I'd want to try some of their stir fries, hot pots, soups, and other classic Korean dishes before ruling this place out. I came here back in the day when they weren't serving bbq and remember the hot pots being solid. I even had the raw octopus here back then, which has since been removed from the menu. read more

My friends wanted KBBQ in Sunyside that was NOT AYCE. I had noticed this restaurant while riding the 7 train decided why not. At worse, we will just go to Wonder Pig next time (an AYCE nearby). Food + Drink: 4.5/5 You should really go here with someone who has experienced KBBQ before because it will help you order strategically. Most of they grill items need to be purchased twice so double the price tag (see menu pics). For grilled items, we went with a combo with a side order of pork belly. This is a restaurant where they will grill for you and give you a great ban chan (an assortable of small sides). We ordered some appetizers (Jap chea + tteokbokki), the raspberry wine, and watermelon soju punch bowl. My disappointment were the Jap chea was really small (it seemed to be more veggie than noodle), and most of the meat seemed overcooked, as a medium rare steak lover. Still my group was happy we went and hopes to come back. All in all, I would go back. However, this place is not for those with light pockets. YES, they revamped the entire restaurant and the menu. Of course, with inflation, the prices of the food went up. But felt like it was a bit like ktown prices in the city. This place is one hidden gem in Woodside. Since day one it didn't disappoint. Was looking for a closer Korean spot by me since I'd go to K-town or in forest hills most of the time. This may be one of the most fantastic-looking Korean BBQ restaurants I've been to. On night 3 in NYC, the crew decided to get some Korean BBQ, and Sik Gaek was the choice. The first thing I noticed was the superb illustration on the logo. I also loved the typography chosen for the menus. Sik Gaek is indoor and heated outdoor seating. Being that it was a bit cold, we decided to stay indoors. All the booths and interiors had the lovely warm streets of Seoul feel, with tv showing the latest K-POP videos. I loved all the Korean artifacts around the stalls and area. Our waitress was also fantastic, attentive, helpful, and willing to joke around with us a bit. Her energy made us feel welcomed. For delivery - this place is open decently late so it's quite convenient. They do provide banchan in a small 4 pack which was very nice. Bibim Naengmyeon ($15) - great value, came with half an egg and a few slices of beef. Flavor was great - super refreshing and tangy. Also came with the extra vinegar and mustard to further season. Large portion. Samgyetang ($22) - this is similar to a chicken soup, super great if you're feeling sick. Comes with salt to season yourself. The soup has great flavor and the chicken was stuffed with rice, ginger, and jujube. I visited Sik Gaek on a Sunday night and it wasn't that crowded at all. We were seated quickly and were able to order quickly. I was also able to easily find a free parking spot a street away. We ordered the beef intestine stir fry, ddukbokki, corn cheese, and empire seafood hot pot. I didn't really like the beef intestine stir fry, it was very gritty and tasted uncomfortable for me to eat. However, this is a bit biased as I don't like eating intestines in general. The ddukbokki was good, especially with the corn cheese. However, it wasn't as spicy as I'd like. The corn cheese was amazing, the perfect amount of cheesiness, sweetness, corn, carrots and peas. I was obsessed with the corn cheese, it's so simple but delicious. The empire seafood hotpot was delicious. The servers cut open everything for you, so it was easy to eat. I initially wanted to come because it was the only place the entire area that served live squid. I called a couple of hours before, and they told me they no longer serve that dish. Ok, well, I'll try it anyway since reviews looked fantastic. Alright so I made the mistake of coming alone, because their portions here for their meals are ginormous. If you want to order bbq, you must order two meats. Meats are 25$+, and the portions were large, so I skipped that. Soups and noodle soup options were anywhere from 20$+, and again, huge portions!!!! So I chose the spicy rice cakes and a grilled mackerel, which ended up being the right size for a lunch for one. Mackerel was amazing! Squeeze some fresh lemon on there, and you are good to go. It was crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. Spot a bone? Don't worry, you can eat it without accidentally stabbing your throat, because they were crispy from the grill. Spicy rice cakes were just ok. No fish cake like most, and the sauce that they used was awfully tomato-ey and too sweet. Service was good! I was checked on often. My friend and I ordered the creamy seafood udon and the spicy chicken soup. We started off with ban chan which was delicious. Once you are seated, they make fried eggs in front of you. It was cooked perfectly! The other ban chan dishes were kimchi, spicy rice cakes, salad. The quality of the ban chan seems higher than other places. I usually don't like kimchi, but it was delicious, not too pungent. My favorite was the spicy rice cakes. I wish they had this as an appetizer. The salad was also delicious and fresh! Then they brought over complimentary steamed eggs which was nice and fluffy. The creamy seafood udon was a delicious creamy, cheesy concoction with squid, octopus, mussels, shrimp, rice cake and vegetables all topped with delicious masago! There was enough to fill two people.
