I love Korean food but as of late it's been hard for me to find a spot that brings out all the fun sides. Mokja brought them out and I was SO HAPPY! I love the pickles, the kimchi, and the egg. I got their pomegranate tea and it was delicious. For our mains we got crispy pork bulgogi and beef bulgogi. The beef was perfection and very flavorful, there's not a single thing I would change. The pork was on the fattier side and I got full after one bite but it was good nonetheless. Their pork buns is my favorite, it's a good ratio of soft bun to pork. While I wouldn't put Mokja's food above anything I'd find in either of the KTowns (#1), it is a perfectly acceptable Korean option for those not wanting to venture outside of Astoria. The place is quaint, small enough for 4-person groups or date nights, but not made for large parties. It's the kind of casual spot perfect for a random drop in or a takeout order. The menu range is impressive. The food skews from pocha style pub food to Korean Chinese to traditional classics that shouldn't be missed. There are lunch specials and combinations, along with random misspellings ("bahn mi", "buger" etc.) that have become commonplace with many of these menus. The Korean fried chicken (soy garlic) is an easy go-to as is the bulgolgi burger, which is a pricey guilty pleasure. I appreciate their inclusion of (various!) jajangmyeon and tangsoo yuk, both famous from their Korean Chinese roots. Though the portions could be more substantial, I dig their jiggae lineup of kimchi, seafood, and budaejiggae. They've also got pajun, mansion, ramyun and naengmyeon as well. The variety is definitely in point. Service has been solid during all of my experiences. Decided to have dinner here on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was pretty packed, but we were seated about 10 minutes after arrival once they cleaned off a table. The interior of the restaurant is cutely decorated. We browsed through the extensive menu and decided on the pork belly & squid platter, and the BBQ grilled gochujang pork belly. Both entrees came with white rice and miso soup. We also got the banana-flavored makgeolli, which the menu says comes in a bottle but it came to the table in a teapot. I've never had this flavor before, but it was so good. The cold makgeolli was a nice contrast to the hot, spicy food. The pork belly dish with the squid was more flavorful than the BBQ pork belly dish, but they were both delicious. We asked for a water refill and extra napkins twice, but it was a while before we got either. Overall, the meal was enjoyable. We will come back here when we have an urge for Korean food, but don't want to venture to Flushing. read more

The waiters are super kind but they need an extra set of hands. The stew was delicious, with freshly cooked bulgogi, mushrooms, veggies, and sweet potato glass noodles. The broth was very flavorful too and I soaked my rice in it. Made a reservation here on a Friday night with a friend. They have a hugee menu with so many items to choose from which is great. The dinner rush doesn't really start to come in around 6-6:30 so it was pretty at 5:30 which we liked. We got the fried wings with soy garlic (pictured) and the crispy pork belly which tasted great. The only thing to mention is that if you're looking for a more authentic Korean experience, this might not be the place. Ate here today for lunch and dinner after work as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 234 Q. I had only brought and ate the army stew that it had tasted really good, spicy and delicious. The service there was also attentive and friendly including my server and her name was Renu that I told her I enjoyed it and I had chat for awhile about how expensive Korean food are in other Korean restaurants and asked me briefly if I'm the person who called for the army stew and I did 'cause I wanted to make they have it in the restaurant. For the first few seconds I've entered this place, I was already feeling the intensive care, little touches of detail, friendly warmth and good shocks of their food selections. Mokja can be such a great place for many things: first dates, a friends gathering, gossip through cocktails, and for a full meal or simple bites tapas style. I hadn't seen my old schoolmate for so long and she is a longtime local in Astoria. We both coincidentally wanted Korean food but in a non-frills and chill vibes environment. The decorations were exceedingly cute and loved the Dora dollhouse displays, the lights and cute crafted flowers on every table. Even our Korean cocktails were vibrant in color, taste and the cute blinking bulbs to give it a fun touch. Food wise: we had the pork steamed buns in folded form - fluffy, delicious and syrupy sweet with the pork bits. The soy garlic chicken wings were fried and sauced up nicely even with the steam still coming out from the chicken, perfect! And our carbs selection was none other than japchae - clear buckwheat noodles - can never go wrong and this was cooked nicely. I also want to give credit to the restaurant for adding a variety of Asian items on the menu. Was pleasantly surprised there was an option for banh mi, Thai noodles, and Japanese dishes like bentos and ramen. Astoria is a great location with a variety of cuisines and this place gives options to an assortment of Asian dishes. One of the few Korean places in Astoria (to my knowledge) so of course we had to check it out. Once you step into Mokja, it's a little dimmed but has a cozy feel. The decorations were very nice and festive (we went during the month of December). From their menu, you see that they offer an extensive amount of options from Korean fried chicken, to stews, to soups, Chinese Korean dishes and more!! I just recovered from some food poisonings so wanted something light, something soupy. I decided on a bulgogi stew, which came with white rice. Also to be more gentle on my tummy, I ordered a hot honey citrus tea. You can get it iced as well! My friend got the Dukk-mandoo soup and the iced version of my drink. We also ordered a seafood pajeon (pancake) to share. Once ordered we were given some banchan (side dishes). It came with kimchi and radish. Both my friend and I agreed we didn't like the kimchi from Mokja much but we did like the radish. (Yes we have experience with eating kimchi, and No - not all kimchi are the same.) We got our food pretty quickly. Okay - so I deff made a mistake when I ordered the stew...there's too much flavor! Reason I say this is because again I just got better and I wanted something not too much or overwhelming in flavor and needed to adjust back. Granted the stew is good and the beef is tender and falls apart. It goes well with the rice but it is a tad sweet, the sauce wise. I should have gotten the items under soup..haha so be careful with what you want to order. My friend's soup she stated was good although wished there were more glass noodles. I have been wanting to dine at Mojka for quite some time now, and I am so happy to have finally found my way there. My experience was beyond 5 stars: from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, the staff treated us with so much care, delicacy, and love. We felt that we were sitting in the living room of our family 's home! We were treated with so much warmth and love, from the servers to the owner. Such beautiful people! We started with steamed dumplings, and I opted for the Korean Mule which was absolutely yum! The dumplings were fresh and tender, as was to be expected. For entrees we shared the hot platter squid & pork belly and a short-rib hot platter (don't recall the name). Both were accompanied by a small bowl of steamed white rice and miso soup. The squid platter was very delicious and quite spicy! Luckily I can handle spice but if you cannot, make sure you let them know so they can make an accommodation for you! The short-rib platter was amazing as well and came with lots of perfectly cut onions cooked to perfection. My only qualm I would say is that there were a few bones which does not necessarily bother me but may bother some other folks. There was more than enough meat, however and we took home leftovers as the meal was quite satisfying! The server cut up the beef for us, as she offered and we accepted. Also, the owner is such a beautiful soul! She showed me how to eat the squid platter and so delicately placed a small amount on my plate giving me tips. I felt that all that was left for her to do was feed me, which she likely would have! I am all about good positive energy it makes the meal and the experience all the better, and Mojka definitely made the mark. As a Korean, I was never able to justify paying ridic prices for Korean food (unless in Flushing or NJ) but I am happy and satisfied with everything I've had here so far. Came here for dinner a few weeks ago - the space is warm, welcoming, and cozy and the staff is also super friendly. My partner ordered a bibimbap that was filling but pretty standard in terms of flavor profile, and I ordered a jjajangmyeon. The crispy pork belly was spectacular and totally melted in my mouth. However, the sauce was a little one-dimensional from my perspective. To be fair, I haven't had many Korean jjajangmyeons (though I am a huge fan of the wide variety of Chinese Zha Jiang Mians), but not a dish I liked very much. They had a lunch menu and I ordered the bibim nengmyun and LA galbi combo. The order came with 3 side dishes (kimchi, daikon, and fish cakes). It took some time for the staff to take my order but once it went in, the food came out relatively quickly. Both dishes were tasty along with the side dishes (though the kimchi wasn't my fave). They start you off with some table munchies. One of them is kimchi. I never liked kimchi much but this one was really good. Chef made. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap. It starts out very hot (temperature wise) but it's very well seasoned and a new flavor for me. Frankly, I think it was the best Bibimbap I've ever had. I also had the Mandoo. I liked this place! I came in on Saturday without a reservation with my boyfriend and they gave us a table immediately. They have outdoor seating but we decided to stay inside. The place is pretty and they have lots of decorations going on! Flower walls and so on. After roaming the menu a bit, we decided to get fried chicken, bao buns, fried dumplings and a combo of noodles on cold soup + grilled meat. Everything was so great! I've tried some other things on their menu but the standout has always been the kimchi fries.
