Based on reviews I hired Adam to install cameras and lighting around the outside of my house. Some of the technicians he sent were incompetent and others made me feel uncomfortable. One asked to use my bathroom and spent at least 1/2 in there. This was weird and made me very uncomfortable. However, I did not complain. What I did complain about having problems with the lighting and the cameras not working properly. I contacted Adam several times. He was clearly uninterested in helping me. It was expensive and the quality of the work was poor. Once it was done and Adam was paid he was uninterested it customer satisfaction. I was very disappointed in this company and I do not recommend them. If you look at my reviews you will see I have very rarely left a negative review on anyone. read more

I'm glad I found Silco after trying multiple other electricians in the area. Sometimes they cost a touch more than I would hope, but I keep hiring them because Adam is very personable over the phone, and their guy Mark keeps doing a great job. The first project I used them for was to remove a window unit exhaust fan that the previous homeowners had installed in the ground floor bathroom window, which was poorly done & caused a draft that made us avoid that bathroom during the winter. Mark installed a new fan in the ceiling, and ran the vent pipe through the ceiling to a new vent he cut into the brick. He was clean and courteous. Since then I have had Silco install both interior and exterior lights, rewire outlets and switches, and help fix recessed lights in my basement ceiling. They'll be out again in a couple of weeks for a few new items, and I'll be looking forward to giving them my list. read more

Great service! Our fuse box hot lug started sparking(very not good) we called them to help us. They immediately addentified the issue and were very courteous and pantient with all my novice questions haha. Turns out we needed to replace the fuse box unit and they went out of their way to get it done the same day, so we could have our hot water again. Thanks again guys! I had a great experience with Silco Electric (Adam) and would highly recommend them. The details: I needed 2 ceiling fans to be installed in my loft apartment. One fan in a loft area of my apartment 20 feet off the ground and the other in the bedroom area. I reached out to several contractors in the DC area and Silco Electric was the first to call me back. Adam was very friendly and helpful over the phone, compared to the other people I reached out to, and was very open to talking through my job and giving a quick estimate. His quote was better than others offered and he was able to give several pricing options depending on the complexity of the job. This was a breath of fresh air compared to other contractors I spoke with who wanted to charge me a fee to come evaluate the job before giving an estimate. Adam arrived on time for the job and did a great work with the install. The fans I had were industrial fans (to go with the look of the condo), but had non-standard fan controls. Adam was thorough in giving an assessment of what we should do to install the fans, which made me feel comfortable we were making the right decisions. He did a great job with the install. Especially getting 20 feet off the ground to install the fan in the loft area. Other contractors didn't have ladders tall enough for the job and needed to bring in a lift (lots more $$$), but Adam had the right ladder for the job. Finally, when he needed a remote fan control he didn't have on him he offered to come back the next day and didn't ask to be paid until the whole job was done. We recently had Silco Electric install recessed lighting in our home, This was the 3rd or 4th time we've used their services. First off, Adam and his entire team are always reachable and prompt when scheduled for work. They are reliable, trustworthy, and do impressive work - our recessed lighting turned out amazing! During the process of installation, SILCO unfortunately identified some seperate electrical issues caused by different contractors in our home that were a major safety concern. Adam and his entire team onsite that day were beyond professional, staying to ensure that issues caused by others were properly handled. They explained in great detail the circumstances, the issues, the safety concerns, and quickly identified resolutions to all issues they discovered. They shifted their schedule to spend more time on our project to ensure that all issues (again not caused by them) were properly fixed (repairing damaged wires, inspecting outlets, etc.) and were thorough in their inspection. Team member Mark was extremely knowledgeable and patient when explaining the issues and fixes to us - having this level of communication and transparency helped to alleviate a lot of our stress and fears. The SILCO team went above and beyond in ensuring our safety, and we feel so grateful for their expertise. It is a huge relief knowing previous issues we were oblivious to have been properly resolved. We've used Silco before and we happy with the service. This time, not much! We had several things that needed attention. We had problems with lights not working and then going on for a time and off. So naturally, we were concerned about electric shorts and possible fires. One of the men banged on the walls. The lights came on but he did not check the wiring at the fixture or the light switch. He never went into one of the rooms we wanted checked. The "assistant" made a rude comment out loud, which was heard by my daughter and husband. We will not use them again. read more

Based on personal recommendations, I hired Adam Silverman to do various tasks, including installing a Nest Thermostat.  Long story, short: Adam is NOT a licensed electrician and his faulty work resulted in $100s increase in my utility bills over a single month and required me to hire another licensed professional to fix the mess he caused.  He incorrectly wired my thermostat such that when the temperature fell below the setting, BOTH by furnace and air conditioning unit turned on, causing an enormous spike in my utility bills, wear on both of my systems, and my house to be colder and drier than it should have been. Hire him at your own risk.  He is inexperienced, over-confident, and not licensed by the state of Maryland to do the work he advertises. After I discovered the depth of the problem he caused by wiring my thermostat incorrectly, and had it fixed by another company, I contacted Adam to see if he would like to address the issue since his website advertises 100% customer satisfaction.  He was defensive and eventually offered only a small refund of his services (less than a third of what he charged me, which was $250 for just over an hour's work, and $100s below my actual financial losses caused by his faulty work).  I declined the refund. read more

We have used Silco on a number of occasions for various electrical issues including maintenance, installation, repairs, etc. at our busy restaurant/bar in Dupont Circle. They are on time, thorough and they get the job done. Got several bids to replace a chandelier in my two-story foyer. Hired Silco. The whole process went very well. Several email contacts with the shop to get an estimate and then make and reschedule the appointment. Two pleasant and competent guys showed up on time. They were the low-cost bidder (via email) and did the work for the agreed price (plus $10 for a new junction box) and cleaned up afterwards. (Some bids were more than twice as much.) Adam is very professional and does beautiful work. He aims to please and gets the work done in an efficient manner. He's also quick to notice things that aren't quite "right" such as Harry Homeowners incorrectly installed outlets and crossed wires. I also had a dryer problem where the fuse kept tripping. I had a service call lined up with Sears but Adam asked "What's up with the dryer?" Adam saw the problem immediately and prevented a possible fire in the making. They were so friendly, professional and even offered to carry in a rug for me that was delivered on my porch. They insisted they carry it upstairs for me. Originally they were just coming to fix a faulty light switch but they also offered to fix a chandelier that had been installed incorrectly. I called him to repair three outdoor lights, and in the process he was also able to remove an existing (incredibly ugly) power cord that had been virtually stapled to the front of the house.
