I have a mixed feelings about Silk Road. The food was "Okay". My daughter has a very severe allergy and they kept her safe so they get huge kudos for that. However, they served us food, we ate off of the plate and the host took took it away stating a mistake that she needed to "Fix" . I honestly believe they served it to someone else. Just ate here for the first time and was blown away! Easily the best crab rangoons I've had in a long long time. I had the lo mein and loved it. My girlfriend had the katsu and it smelled amazing. I no longer live in Vermillion, but when I come back to visit ,make it a point to eat at Silk Road. I LOVE their lunch buffet. They have different stuff on it each day. Everything on it is delicious. I've also eaten dinner there on one occasion. I don't remember what I orderd but it came in a cool stone bowl and was really yummy. The price is VERY reasonable. This is the best Asian food in town. I say this because their menu is much more extensive than Chae's. As far as the actual 'chinese' food - Chae's and Silk Road taste about the same to me. Silk Road's lunch buffet is more expensive, but is larger than Chae's and changes throughout the week. I particularly like the Thai food options. This is the place I recommend for dinner. July 17 2015, worst ever. The food was ok, the service was worse than bad. Our waiter (backward hat) was bad. Kept forgetting things, then when we asked for the check, he said he would take care of us at the cashier right then. Did not want to give us the check to look at. I have been going to the Silk Road for many years now, and if I haven't been eating in there was always take away. In my opinion the food was always good and continues to be. But the other day I took some of my family for a fun outing to our favourite place. We waited for our seat, nothing unusual there. We got seated, and we were offered a high chair for the baby which we accepted, all was well there. We ordered our drinks and when the waitress came back she forgot straws. It happens. We asked for some and she said it wasn't a problem, she would get some. She walked away and we ended up waiting 10 minutes for measly straws. And it wasn't busy, we could see her standing and doing nothing. The same thing happened with silver ware. Another 10 minutes. And when drink refill time rolled around, she brought a pitcher of soda to the table, fine, good actually. But she proceeded to pick up the glasses by the top rim. Unsanitary in my opinion. All in all it was not a pleasurable experience. I have heard similar things from other parties. Sure, the food was good, but the service was lacking. I like Silk Road and am a repeat customer. I think they are a bit overpriced, worst curries I've ever had and the male owner (and a few servers) seem very disinterested in customer service. That being said, the rest of their menu is very good, I recommend the spring rolls, princess chicken, sweet & sour chicken and their beef pho is okay. I would recommend eating at Silk Road if you're craving some Asian food or want a good lunch buffet. read more

The food is superior, but I have a complaint. Food safety! There is no hand soap available and the employees are not required to wash their hands! A typical "asian" restaurant that has several cuisines, but aren't very good in any one (with the exception of Korean, 3.5/5 stars there). There are several important items for each cuisine that are missing (but with so many countries, something's gotta give). The maki rolls (sushi that is cooked) are pretty lame, but the shrimp one's are OK---which you wouldn't want to have raw anyway. We count ourselves fortunate when we stumble across an eating establishment while traveling that makes us wish we lived nearer. The Silk Road is just such a place. Now that health concerns have forced us to eat lighter and more like Vegans, eating out is a big challenge, especially in a place we've never been before. We found the Silk Road using Yelp, saw the great reviews, and went there for lunch in early September. We were not disappointed. The menu had great variety, many dishes could be prepared to fit our diet, and the food was prepared perfectly and served tastefully by the friendly and accommodating wait staff. Although there's a delicious-looking buffet available, we ordered from the menu because of our diet preferences. Now we kid each other about why we need to drive the 280 miles to Vermillion so we can eat at the Silk Road Cafe again! read more

This place is most certainly not authentic and definitely not good. If you have lived in a small rural town with no Asian food around then I can see why you would think that the food is good. The service is VERY VERY slow, though the people working there are nice. Everything tastes the same and some veggie options are cooked with meat broth. You're better off learning how to cook the real deal at home. I lived in Asia for more than 10 years... Believe me, this place is not good unless you enjoy MSG-laden foods.
