A friend and I stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday evening a couple weeks ago. The place was totally empty. Usually that's a red flag for me, but we were hungry so we chose a table and sat. We shared the summer wraps to start, which were fresh and tasty, but I wish they served it with more peanut sauce. I ordered the paht siew as my meal. (Many other Thai places spell it "pad see ew"..it's the same thing.) The portion was big, and the sauce was flavorful. It was a little too salty, but overall good. The leftovers the next day tasted even better (as most noodle dishes often do!) Their website notes a byob policy, but they definitely had a drink menu, so perhaps they're ok with either? Service was pretty good, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't considering the lack of other diners. read more

Pad Thai was a congealed clump of dry noodles with some soggy vegetables. It's been a bit since I've had Thai food, but I remember there being more sauce and flavor. Wasn't even worth eating. Veggie egg rolls were pretty bland too. Curry tasted like a standard curry - nothing too exciting there. Definitely will not be returning to try any of their other dishes. read more

The staff is incredibly kind and the food is superb. If you're looking for Thai food anywhere near wicker park, bucktown, etc, this is the best place. I loved my vegetable panang curry and my friends loved their dishes too. They have a large vegetarian section in their menu too. Great Thai Food, good price, pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff, quick service. Everything is done right as far as I've experienced so far. Some Thai jointsget their meat / tofu / veggie ratios all out of whack. Sometimes they skimp on noodles. Silom does none of this, and it's fresh and delicious. Everything has the flavor profile it should and that's all I can ask for in my neighborhood Thai spot. I've eaten here twice so far and will continue to for the foreseeable future. This is our go-to thai place in Bucktown. We've had the pad thai, pad kee mao, pad see ew, pot stickers or crab rangoon. All really good, especially the crab rangoon. I think they are byob even though there is a full bar, but we usually order take out. Food is always consistent and service is pleasant. read more

So I was doing my typical Yelp scouring of news restaurants that have opened up around me that I wanted to try. I saw Silom, and although I was dubious of "another Thai place" opening up. I thought, what the hell; let's give it a try. Well I thought the interior was done well. Very modern and stylish. Pretty much what you would expect from a trendy B town joint. We got there early and the restaurant was relatively empty; which is why I'm not sure why they opted to stick us in a table right next to another two top. I asked for another two top a little further way, but they said that that table was reserved. By the time we left, the table was still empty. I dunno, regardless of the reservation; I think tie should go to the runner. So we ordered three things: Mussels appetizer: This was pretty good. I usually don't like coconut but the broth was very interesting. It was creamy but had a nice tang to it as well. And the price was right for the fairly large portion they gave. The mussels weren't the freshest, but still fairly fresh tasting. Chilean sea bass-my fat ass gained about 10 lbs this winter. So I thought steamed fish should be a trend I should adopt. The fish was steamed perfectly. A buttery texture, and the fish flaked off into perfect pieces. Granted, steamed fish doesn't scream flavor, but it was a bit too bland. Also, seabass isn't a sustainable fish. I wonder "do I care?" I guess I should. Hard enough finding fish I enjoy eating though Drunken noodles-I order this pretty much at every single Thai place I go to. We asked to substitute the regular rice noodles rather than the thick ones. They were more than happy to oblige. Well perhaps they forgot that when cooking. The noodles were either overcooked, or sat out too long. Cuz they ended sticking to gether in a clumpy mess. And they weren't very appetizing. One of my best friends is Thai, she cooks for me every so often. Maybe my standards are too high or maybe all the Thai food south of Argyle area sucks. I've had plenty of good Thai up there; I'm sure Aruns is amazing as well. And why do Thai restaurants always get aligned to sushi, a completely unrelated cuisine. Ugh, Thai food is going the way of Chinese food: jacked up and everyone is okay with that. The service was also a bit inattentive. When they brought out the entrees they took our appetizer plates without providing new ones to share our entrees. Shoulda at least asked us if we wanted any, but I chalk this up to newness. One of my new favorite restaurants for carryout - both times got the red and green curry and both were great, fresh portions and the amount of veggies and proteins hit the spot. I'm particularly a fan of the crab rangoons, not only was the filling hearty and the wrapper super crispy, they were adorably wrapped like little pouches. Stopped in for dinner here with some friends and truly enjoyed the experience! Chris was our server, and he took great care of us. The ambiance is very modern and hip, and it has a pretty cool bar as well. We started with some ice cold Singha beer and ordered two different tofu starters. The better of the two was the Tofu Chu Chee - we absolutely loved the cook on the tofu and the sauce was phenomenal. My fiance and I decided to order 3 entrees to bring home some leftovers. We went with a tofu pad thai, Kao Soy with Beef, and the Green Curry with chicken. The best entree by far was the green curry. It was spicy, so flavorful, and the veggies and chicken were very tasty. The pad thai was just ok, and we couldn't figure out exactly why it was missing the mark, and the Kao Soy was also not our favorite. We've had other Kao Soy from Siam Splendor in Evanson that is a bit more brothy as opposed to creamy/gravy, and we prefer the noodle style and ratios of ingredients better at Siam. Overall the service, atmosphere, and food was great, and we'll focus on their curries next time!! read more

I wish I this was a joke - but they charged my debit card $6,954.50 for a $38 dollar dinner on Saturday. We've been there several times and this used to be our go-to Thai place - but I didn't even get an apology when I called in to explain that they'd made a mistake. They said they'd already refunded it (though it hasn't gone through), and that was all. Very disappointed in how they handled such an expensive and time-consuming mistake. I ordered the chicken phat thai and thai iced tea. The phat thai was delicious, I requested medium spicy and probably could've kicked it up a notch lol. It had a nice balance of that sweet and sour. Ambience: Classy. Trendy. Great for a date night or group outing. There are two sections to the restaurant. You can opt for the island table with stool chairs or individual tables with regular chairs. My only qualm is that there is dim lighting, so you may need to light up your cell phone to read the menu. Probably one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city. My boyfriend and I drove by this place all the time and just randomly thought to try it the other day and let me tell you, this place is seriously a hidden gem! To start off, the atmosphere is really nice. It feels like a trendy Japanese sushi restaurant or something. I was kind of amazed at how NOT busy it was on Friday night. In fact, I even hesitated reviewing this place and giving it 5 stars in fear that it will start to become another Nori or Cumin, because that's where it's headed. We started off with a couple drinks. Mine was a ginger vodka with iced tea and my boyfriend got a Long Island and they were both great! Our crab rangoon came out quickly too and it was delicious. Next up, I got the panang noodles and they were AMAZING. I always crave curry, but I love noodles, so this was a perfect fit. My boyfriend was jealous and I think we'll probably both order it next time. He did get a really amazing seafood noodle basil dish though, but the curry noodles were off the charts! Just salty broth with slices of chicken, celery, mushrooms, green onion and red pepper. Where's the ginger??? Summer wraps were tasteless and huge. Not appetizing at all. This dish had no salt so it didn't taste like anything. It was warm and the cucumbers were cooked in with the salad. I've had this salad at other places and it's never been warm. Massive menu but the old standbys of Thai food are good. Pad Thai is served sweeter than at many other Thai restaurants. Spring rolls are fantastic and the peanut sauce is delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and accomodating. And there is a TV at the bar that usually has whatever the most popular sports game of the night is. So that's a plus if your eating alone and want something to do while you eat. read more

I actually stumbled upon this place on accident, the place is really nice and it's BYOB. The service was incredible, our waitress got things before we even asked for it, like bowls to share food, and water before we ran out, and even apologized for the food taking longer then usual to arrive. We ordered Tom yum soup, drunken noodles with beef, red pepper curry, and pineapple fried rice with chicken. By far you MUST TRY the curry, it was so delicious!! Only complaint I have is that their wasn't enough rice to go with the curry. The Tom yum was a little plain, and the other dishes were just ok, nothing special. But again- try the curries! read more

Awesome place and byob always is a big selling point for me. Fyi, 2$ per person charge for byob but there is a bar here also. Wonderful atmosphere...inviting and relaxing with great lighting and smooth jazz on. Helpful, quick and attentive staff. Started with hot and sour soup (best Ive had) and shared an order of crab rangoons (just okay-standard and small). Also shared the orange chicken stir fried with brown rice that had a perfect sauce and light breading. Second dish shared was the panang curry with beef and sticky rice. Flavor was outstanding-some of the best Ive had. First time trying sticky rice and highly recommend adding that to your order. Had dinner here on Monday night and the food and service were phenomenal! Chris was an excellent host and server. We ordered and split a bunch of dishes, had 4 bottles of wine to open and Chris was super attentive with extra ice buckets and wine glasses. The food was some of the best Thai food I've ever had. I'm going to be recommending this place like crazy and can't wait to go back myself. This seemed like a grateful, humble small business turning out some excellent food in a very nice setting. I agree with other reviews, the decor is quite modern and different from most Asian places in the city. However, it's just too loud, they need better sound proofing. We went in on a Thursday evening and it wasn't too crowded. There was a party of 12 sitting right across us in the room and we could every single thing! Wanted to grab some Thai food and it was really good! I got their crab rangoon and it tasted so good, even though it looked a little different than other crab rangoons I have eaten in the past. But, this one was definitely better than many of the rangoons I have had in the past. I usually order pad thai, but I wanted to try something different. I ended up getting suki-yaki pad thai, and I really enjoyed it. It was a good balance for thai food, and it wasn't too sweet. There was a ton of food leftover! We have a Silom in Dallas Texas and by golly that one was amazing. This one is a little different than I had hoped. We ordered an orange chicken, drunken noodles with seafood, green papaya salad, some pad tai, and mango tapioca Pad tai was dry, never had dry pad tai before, but none of us were a fan, it would've definitely used some more sauce to moisten it up. Orange chicken was so salty, and honestly is on the level of Panda Express, except with a smaller portion size. My drunken noodles with seafood was salty to the point it tasted like it was soaked in the sea. I did appreciate the tenderness of the muscles and squid, but oh my stars I was having a headache from the sodium levels. Mango smoothie my friend was pretty disappointed in. He said it tasted like plain milk tea - I tried it and agree. My friend who ordered the green papaya salad said he was not impressed with the taste and say it's usually made a lot better at other places. This was the first Thai food I had after my trip to Thailand, so needless to say, there were high expectations with a heightened palate for this sort of food! Glad I came to Silom, because they're pretty damn consistently great, despite having a menu that is wayyy too large! Named after one of Bangkok's most eclectic hoods, this place boasts tasty, unbland food across the board. I especially liked the garlic and chive fritter/dumpling appetizer, which I have never seen on a Thai menu. Great massaman curry, as well. Service is quick and efficient. Really pretty inside; surprised more people don't dine in. This place keeps Grubhub in business, judging by the volume of orders coming out of there. One of the best Thai restaurants in Chicago. Made an order for delivery from here and food arrived on time and still warm. Decided to try the orange chicken and the Panang Curry and oh my goodness, was it delicious! Chicken tasted fresh and tender, while the curry plate was creamy and just the right amount of spices. The ONLY thing I was a little bummed on was the portion size for the orange chicken plate...perhaps they could add a little more chicken. Either that or maybe next time I'll order 2 plates :D I have yet to actually eat at the restaurant itself, however, judging from the photos and other reviews, I'm sure it'll be a nice experience. read more

My friend and I went during a weekday for lunch. It wasn't busy and I liked that. The restaurant was cozy and comfortable. The tables and chairs were well placed and there was a lot of space between tables. The service was gentle and although they do not serve alcohol, it is BYOB. The food was quite good.
