Unfortunately, my experience at Thai Lagoon was very disappointing. When I arrived to pick up my order, I politely greeted the employee, gave my name, and let her know I was there for my order. Despite my friendly greeting, her tone was noticeably rude from the start. When she returned with my food, she tossed the bag onto the counter without saying anything and immediately walked away. I had to ask, "Is this my order?" and, without even turning around, she simply replied, "Yeah." Customer service is a big part of the dining experience, and this interaction made me feel unwelcome and disrespected. While the food itself was average, it wasn't memorable enough to make up for the poor service. There are many excellent Thai restaurants throughout Chicago and the surrounding areas that not only serve great food but also treat their customers with kindness and respect. I personally prefer supporting businesses that value their customers and demonstrate that through their attitude, speech, and service. I LOVE thai food and finding a good thai place can be tricky. Ended up getting the crab rangoons, pad see ew with tofu and curry rice with chicken. WOW was the sauce good with the crab rangoon with a little kick. I would say pad see ew is my staple and it had so much broccoli in it; I was in heaven. Yummy! I could straight up drink the peanut sauce if I wasn't ashamed of how it would look! The Vietnamese spring rolls are SO stuffed I had to resort to eating it with a fork! Had the yellow curry, it was very flavorful and a generous portion, but the rice portion was small, we had to order more rice. The upon pad thai is SO good! I should have checked the Yelp reviews before ordering. I found Thai Lagoon on Uber Eats while looking for something to eat while I worked at my hotel. The delivery was quick and the order was correct - I got pad see ew with chicken and sauteed greens with beef. I really love pad see ew so I was hoping theirs would be tasty. I was first kind of surprised at the chicken skin that was included in the bowl - it was like someone removed the skin off a drumstick and just threw it in. It wasn't like it was a clear part of anything included that just fell off. I've never seen that before so that was kind of strange to me. The chicken itself was also very dry. The noodles were pretty good, but the dish overall just didn't seem very fresh. I did like the sauteed greens. This dish was really saucy and full of spinach. The beef was a little weird, just a bit of an odd texture and was sweeter than I'd prefer. It came with rice that I mixed in with the sauce. Well it's been since covid times have not earlier that I've signed in here from 2019-2020? Originally I was going to go to oak Park Illinois and eat Mama thai but since I've been so busy taking care of my cars and living nearby the neighborhood this Thai restaurant is also delicious and also cheaper I'm surprised Mama thai used to be expensive. I had ordered the green curry and chicken as well as Tom kha soup small in chicken service was attentive and ambience was more of this whole contemporary modern despite that this restaurant has been here for some time. A friend of my unfortunately does not like this restaurant but I still like it. Quality of the Thai ingredients are good in my opinion but also the price is also pretty good too it's just it's a smaller occupancy for a restaurant but if you're in bucktown wicker Park east of Western avenue and North avenue this is a decent place to eat if you're craving for Thai food in which I am I probably might come here more often than Mama thai going to oak Park and since I'm picking the train here again. read more

Tried this local Thai place for the first time recently and loved it!!! Service was great. They were always making sure we had what needed but never rushed or bothered. It is also BYOB and there are stores near by to pick up beer or wine. Tried the spring rolls which were not fried and delicious. Had the papaya salad and loved how fresh it tasted with a nice build up of heat. Enjoyed Pad see ew with beef which had great texture with right amount of ratio and sauce. At the end of the meal the server brought me and my friend a delicious slice of cheesecake for free. Was such a nice gesture! Amazingly great prices for everything too! The place was pretty empty when we sat down, but most people opted for takeout, and there was a surprising amount that did during the course of the meal. We started with the chicken satay skewers which were really good. They paired well with the peanut sauce and cucumber. For the entrée, I had panang curry and my partner had the pad thai. The curry was rich and flavorful but pretty spicy. It also was on the sweeter side, but not overpowering. Had enough to take home for another meal. The pad thai tasted fresh as the raw vegetables balance the heavier noodles and chicken. We found out later that it's 10% cheaper to order takeout rather than dine in. Will rate 4.3 based on recent take out and past few orders from here. In general, we've been happy with our food from here, and we order regularly from several Thai restaurants. A couple days ago we ordered 2 entree dishes, and in both cases the noodles were overcooked. I see a pattern there reading reviews. They were generous with the tofu portions, and to me the highlight of our selections was the tofu skewers. They were marinated and charred just right and complimented nicely with their peanut sauce. It was all packaged Nicely and everything was correct. I ordered pad see ew with chicken and chicken satay. My husband got the keemow with crispy noodles and the app sampler. FYI the crispy noodles are not a topping like we thought, it means all the noodles were crispy. My dish had good flavor and the portions were decent but my chicken was a little dry. When enjoyed his entree but said he wouldn't get the crispy noodles next time. The app sampler was a cool option to get a little of everything. The gyoza and shrimp things were good. My husband enjoyed the crab Rangoon but we didn't love the spring rolls (though personally I'm not normally a fan so that's not specific to TL). I live down the street and order Thai food from here at least once month and every single item I've tried has been ::chefs kiss:: Thai curry is my comfort food, every single curry I've tried from here is the perfect blend of creamy, spicy, and sweet. That being said, this cute neighborhood spot has everything from stir fries, soups, noodles, and fried rices. You can't go wrong with any of them! Definitely try the panang noodles, spicy basil, Chinese eggplant, khao soi, red curry, and mussaman curry. I recently dined in to try their lunch special which is 10.25 for soup, 2 crab rangoons, and an entree of your choice which included curry, noodles, rice, and stir fry. We love Thai food and I cook many Thai dishes with expertise. Sometimes it's simply easier to order out. We were both horribly disappointed today. Two simple dishes, which I have made many times. Of course, as with any ethnic dish, what you get will vary from place to place. The seasoning, spiciness and base ingredients will vary a bit. There was no excuse for the congealed mess we got today. I ordered Pad Kee Mao, or Drunken Noodles and the other dish was Pad Lard Nar. Both noodles were way past soggy. That only happens with rice noodles if they have been long overcooked, or REHEATED. Soggy Thai noodles are disgusting- on the level of wallpaper paste. I ordered my dish extra SPICY. That usually means you will get several dried red chili peppers and generous slices of jalapeno, with seeds and membrane intact. All I got was totally mushy jalapenos from a can. No taste at all other than water! The chicken was overcooked, reheated to the point of being unrecognizable. The green peppers were total mush. The ONLY fresh ingredient was a chunk of tomato. We will NEVER come back here. I suspect that our dishes were ordered previously, and never picked up, and they simply resold them when we ordered them. They told us 17 minutes until our order was ready. We live 10 minutes away and were waiting in the restaurant. read more

So a few things about this first time order. I find it odd that on DoorDash this particular restaurant doesn't allow any kind of special instructions.. they don't even give you the option of removing items for example sprouts. I very much so dislike the taste and smell of sprouts. They also did not include a side of the spicy dried chili, which is a signature topping in Thai food. I ordered the pad Thai and I have to say that the first few bites were good until the over barring tartness of the sauce took over the entire dish. This is my second time getting food from Thai Lagoon. There are so many Thai spots in the neighborhood and while I'm not normally a huge fan of Thai food, this one has me as a repeat customer. We shared: Tom Yum Soup w/tofu (large) Crab Rangoon (5 pcs) Basil Fried Rice w/Chicken Pad See Ew w/Chicken The bill came out to about $20/each with plenty of leftovers for the next day. The pad see ew was really rich and even though it was on the saltier side, I paired it with white rice when I had leftovers. If you love a saucy noodle (which I do) their pad see ew is the way to go. I liked that it had a little bit of Chinese broccoli mixed in and would've loved even more of the veggies. The crab Rangoon's dipping sauce was so good! I think I enjoyed that sauce more than the crab Rangoon itself but it's a tangy, spicy, and sweet mix that was perfect with the fried wonton skins and creamy filling. The large tom yum soup is enough for 4 servings and we ordered it with tofu. It was so fragrant with the lemongrass, cilantro, and green onion. Thai Lagoon offers standard Thai food with a wide variety of appetizers, curries, noodles and fried rice, soups, salads, and other Thai entrées. This is a gem of a place! One of the best Thai restaurants I have ever tried. I think this place receives a lot of take out orders, so in person seating is rather limited. It is also BYOB! We ordered the appetizer combo for starters (everything was amazing). We also ordered a coconut milk soup, but the lime juice is very strong. It was not my favorite, but perhaps I could ask for less lime juice next time if I want to try it again. I ordered the udon pad Thai and it was soooo delicious. I can't wait to come back. One notable exception was the waitress brought the check while we were in the middle of eating. It felt rude and rushed. I am sad to write this review. I ordered pick up and got food poisoning from eating the Thai yellow curry. Apparently due to my cold I couldn't smell the bad meet. I'm not sure if this place is under new ownership but it used to be great. After todays visit I will not be returning. The server was rude. Had AirPods in the whole time and never checked in. The lunch special comes with a random appetizer when I asked what it was she said it was an egg roll, came out as crab Rangoon and I am allergic. The Panang curry was probably one of the worst I've had with 3 small pieces of chicken. When it came time for the check I had to get up and go to the front while the server was hanging out in the back the entire time. All in all not a great experience. Yikes... this is the worst food I've ever had? I don't think I've ever not finished a meal... It started off okay, the crab rangoons were decent. But when I got to the "shrimp tempura" it was a mix of soggy fried vegetables? Literally looked so sad. I'm not even sure if it was fried? Never seen anything like this.
