I was really looking forward to posting a five star review for this restaurant's Yelp debut, but alas, I cannot do so in good conscience. The food here is very good. The service...let's just say they're struggling.
My group of three arrived on time for our Sunday evening reservation, and was quickly taken to our table, which had been marked with an "American Express - Reserved" placard. After a few minutes, a server arrived to take our order. We placed our order and a bottle of wine and a bottle of water were promptly brought out for us.
Forty-five minutes later, we hailed the maitre d' with a wild gesticulation indicating that we were wondering whether we had been forgotten. He consulted with the staff, and assured us that our starters were on the way. Ten minutes later, they arrived (though it was a two person portion while we had ordered for three, and the third person was brought his soup, which should have been delivered with the salads which were later presented for the other two guests).
Half an hour later and still awaiting a visit from our server, we had to get up and visit the server's stand to request a bottle of water. Fifteen minutes later, one arrived, along with one of the main dishes we had ordered and an order of scallops (which we had not). The other main dish we ordered(New Zealand mussels) was never to be found! Figuring it was best to enjoy a good meal now than to wait another 90 minutes for the meal we had ordered, we graciously accepted the food and had dinner.
When it came time to pay the bill, I thought to myself, "here's a restaurant that takes American Express" (since they had the logo emblazoned on our table upon arrival), I presented my card to the server, who politely informed me that this was not a credit card that they accepted. Under ordinary circumstances, this would have been perfectly understandable, but given the chaos of the service all evening and the fact that they used AmEx branded table signs, I rolled my eyes, laughed, and handed him another card.
Clearly this restaurant is not yet ready for a preview audience, much less an ordinary group of low-maintenance diners. Despite the high quality of food, I would steer clear until they have figured out the basics of service. Silom Thai Brasserie has the worst service I've experienced anywhere in Europe or North America in the past few years. Hopefully they will figure it out, as the quality and flavor of the food is exceptional. read more
