The classic is served with bread on the side to sop up all that buttery goodness.. but be quick! The steak is consistently delicious, and is what keeps us coming back time and time again. ** tip : the small is 150g (just over 5oz), I recommend ordering medium (Klassieker) ** The service at this location is not the best I've seen compared to their other location. Though, I will give them some grace because this place gets SO busy. Your server is your server. If you're wanting to add something to your order and they're busy, you're stuck waiting for them to come to you. Another server won't help you find them or take down any additions. At first I thought it was because it was busy and we were a large group, but we went back another time when it was pretty quiet and it was the same thing. They offer the ability to order via QR code, but it's limited to drinks, if they would expand this feature to more items - if its not the full menu, perhaps appetizers, sides and desserts, that could help alleviate the bottleneck. I arrived at Loetje asking for a space for one, and the host asked if I had a reservation: ME: "No." HOST: "The restaurant is full." (The restaurant was not full.) "All the reservations are booked. It will be a forty-five minute wait." ME: (Thinking my hotel is across the canal, so I can stow my shopping and return:) "All right, can I put my name down?" HOST: "No. I told you, all the reservations are booked." ME: "You said it was a forty-five minute wait. How do you get that?" HOST: "You sit down." ME: "Okay. Goodbye." We went with friends for some beers. It's in the square and a happening place. The bartender we had was nice, the beer cold; from a liquor perspective it's pre-measured and looks pretty short. Now *disclaimer*, if you do not like your steak medium rare, you might want to consider another dish. It states on the menu that that IS how it's cooked, and that it's been the tradition for years. I'm actually more of a medium well type of gal, but because of how great I heard the steak was, I took the risk... And I'm so glad I did! Loetje's tenderloin is served with a butter sauce and paired with THEE most scrumptious fries. It also comes with toast, the purpose is for dipping it into that delicious sauce. To my surprise, (considering I've never eaten a medium rare steak), I LOVED my dish!! That steak was devoured, and oh my goodness the fries and toast? That plate was almost wiped clean!! Ambience: not crowded initially but within 20 minutes, it was packed, noisy, and not a pleasant experience. Service: not enough servers so it was a little discouraging that we had to wait a bit to give our order and the service was not exactly kind, welcoming, or inviting me to return. HOWEVER The food, in my opinion, was tasty, seasoned well, and very nicely presented. I had the tuna sandwich, lettuce/tomatoes/pickles were a nice touch, not overwhelming, and the tuna was very good. The bread was fresh, crunchy, and easy to bite into. Overall, filling and satisfying. Hubby ordered the steak, with two pieces of white bread to soak up the juices and butter from the steak. Nice one! Different but a pleasant surprise. The fries, and I do love the thicker cut fries, were crispy and tasty, although I do agree that a touch more salt would've been better AND ketchup, not mayo or whatever creamy sauce was added. They are know for their beef tenderloin, and it was truly delicious; I wish i would've gotten the largest size instead of the medium. The gravy it comes with is delicious as well. I was a little nervous this was going to be a tourist trap. It was located right on the canal at Centraal Station. We sat down with a view of the canal. We ordered wine and tenderloin. We tried two different sauces, so we could share. One was garlic and one was spicy red sauce. Both were delicious! They cook the tenderloin to medium rare. It was very soft and flavorful. The price was very reasonable and service was great. We will return next time we travel to Amsterdam. read more

First time in Europe, first stop Amsterdam. Nice place centrally located. Came here for a birthday gathering of 22 relatives from the USA and the Caribbean. The only negative is you have to use your credit card and are charged 1 Euro to use the bathroom. I understand European culture is different but our bill was over $3,000. Even though we were a party of 22 the waitress Demi did a great job serving us. I hope the owners read this and realize how valuable she is to the business. I would hire her in a minute. She really shows care for the customers and makes sure they are enjoying the dinner. They are know for their Beef Tenderloin Bali steak which comes with an awesome sauce Cooked with a lot of butter. Most of us had the steak, I had the tuna steak rare which was excellent. We also had the beef carpaccio appetizer and shrimp croquet appetizer for the table. We also had a few bottles of Barolo red wine and a lot of mixed drinks and beer. The most interesting drink we had was the Pornstar martini. We had a few awesome deserts including the apple pie and ice cream, the dame Blanche and a piece of cake for the birthday boy. The coffee and tea we were very good as well. Hard to get seated at this busy place - if you have a large party, make reservations. Food is good (liver was great!), service is courteous, and the location is very convenient to Amsterdam Centraal. This place does not have free bathrooms - you have to pay €1 - not a big deal, but a bit inconvenient if you really need to go, and left your wallet at the table. read more

I have been dining at Loetje for over a decade on airline layovers. It has always had a nickname by crews that I can't mention here. Let's just say the nickname resembles a certain invading army from the 1940's. The service has always been very Dutch, abrupt and to the point. Ok that's fine, but this is the first time the staff were blatantly, openly disdainful to diners. It wasn't just us, we witnessed it at every table within sight and sound. Food is consistently good, and I've always loved the steaks. It's good, but not THAT good for the horrible service. Loetje is a pretty restaurant with a beautiful outdoor seating area with a stunning view of Amsterdam. It was a gorgeous day and I would have loved to enjoy a cocktail and bask in the sun. Unfortunately with COVID, they do not have enough employees to open the terrace. Only a portion of the restaurant was open. Before 4PM, you can sit anywhere inside. The menu is varied with traditional Dutch items or healthier options. Service was good and prices are fair. I was unable to login on the wifi. My friends love to eat dinner here. read more

Assumed a good experience with multiple vegetarian options for us but unfortunately disappointed. Ordered a vegetarian poke bowl, loaded fries and vegetarian beef tenderloin. Vegetarian poke bowl was fresh but same price as with meat which seemed a bit of a rip off. Loaded fries had no mention of spice and so not ideal for sensitive friend struggling to eat it. If you want to get out, do something different, and eat overlooking the canal this is the restaurant for you. After walking around Amsterdam, we decided to come to this restaurant. The weather was so nice that we decided to sit outside. This restaurant has an okay selection of food and drinks. I ordered English breakfast tea which came with a cute heart shaped cookie. When I attempted to ask about additional pastries that I may purchase, I was brushed off and that the waitress either know how to or didn't want to describe them or show them to me, so I stuck with the tea. Also, everything is ala carte. The tea came with a course hot water and sugar, but the milk and whipped cream or at an additional cost. On my next trip to Amsterdam I will perhaps explore other restaurants, but will keep this one in mind just in case the others don't pan out.
