They are not ethical business people. if they see you stranded on the road they will pick you up saying there with law enforcement/road side, and take you on an expensive tow. STAY away from them. I had an old 1996 van (with 166k miles) taking up space in my driveway. Due to a recent bad transmission, it had a top speed of 35 mpg, which made it OK for using on city streets to carry things, but not too practical. The cost to repair the transmission was more than the car was worth. Since the registration was due and a smog check needed, I decided to get rid of it. Due to the transmission issue, it meant selling it for scrap/junk. I called many places that make a business of buying old junk cars, but most were offering too little money or were not that cooperative on the phone. Seeing a good review for Silva Bros on Yelp, I gave them a call. After describing the vehicle and its current condition, I was given an offer for the car. It was $40 lower than the best offer that I received. I told him about the other offer for $300, and he agreed to match it. I felt better about dealing with him than the other firm (phone manners are important for customers!), I decided to give him the business and agreed to sell him the car for $300. As I was calling late in the afternoon, he arranged for someone to pick up the car with a tow truck the next morning. Right on schedule, there was someone there with a flat bed tow truck. I signed over the title and he gave me the cash. He then winched up the car onto the tow truck and drove off. Very easy and professional. If you have an old junker, I recommend selling it to Silva Bros. They will give you fair compensation and tow away the vehicle. read more

I had a great experience yesterday on a Sunday. My company issued vehicle needed to be towed from my house in Sunnyvale to one of our warehouse shops in Hayward. The driver showed up promptly, did a beautiful 4-point tie down for highway travel, I know this because I used to drive flatbed myself. The truck was really nice and the driver takes very very good care of it, it was completely detailed inside, I was very impressed at the pride he takes in his work vehicle. Dispatch quotes me 60$ , her name was "Tish". the tow truck driver gets to my location he takes care of me no problem. Takes me to to the location no problem. When I get to the location he tells me that it's $150. Blindsided and confused by the price especially it being $90 higher. When I called in to dispatch to try to dispute the charge and ask why it's $90 higher than what they quoted me. They said they couldn't do anything about it and that the driver made up the price. I had the driver right in front of me and he said he doesn't make the price and I saw a text message from the dispatch telling them what to charge me. Was unable to use AAA/Insurance. So called around. Once talked to dispatcher, tow guy came within 15 minutes!. Tow guy was awesome. Figured out that the catalytic converter was stolen so I canceled tow so that could follow up w/ insurance. Charged reasonable cancellation fee. [If he hadn't told me, I would have had towed to shop only to find out there and then likely would have had to tow back.] Really appreciate the thoughtfulness and professionalism. Did someone say John Silva is the man? He sure is! My 10 year old managed to lock the alarm remote inside my car so it kept locking itself. Thanks for locking up my inhaler during spring. Silva towing happened to be available right on the call when I was available to get a ride back to my lonely car and we met there. SAVED MY LIFE. Ok, well not yet- and like, not literally. But still, they deserve a five star review for their customer service alone. I called tonight after getting a flat on my way to my pet sitting client's house. Total bummer. Even more of a bummer because it's the day before Xmas eve and every other jerk I called was ho-humming and price "adjusting" for the inconvenient timing. Sorry, flat tires happen on almost holidays too, people! So after reaching maximum distraughtedness (yes, it was so bad I get to make up a word), I finally googled towing companies that accept State Farm. Immediately Ray, the very awesome guy who answered the phone, put me at ease. He assured me that my insurance covered the cost of a tow and that I didn't have to pay out of pocket. I locked my keys in my car at a strip mall, one of the friendly onlookers suggested I call a towing company instead of a locksmith since they can often be cheaper. That wasn't turning out to be the case, but then I called Ray. She has State Farm and I wasn't sure who to call for a tow so I Googled "State Farm tow San Jose" and this place came up high on the search results because of their great reviews. I gave them a call to verify that they did indeed bill State Farm directly as I had read in another review and they did. The man on the phone was very nice and professional. The driver came pretty quickly (about 20 min) and he was super quick, funny (he was joking around with us a little), and also very professional. This company is great if you need a tow. I received the worst towing service of my life with Silva Towing in 4/23/21! I had a flat tire but didnt have a spare tire with me and needed my car to be towed to a nearby tires service place. I requested the service through my insurance company Mercury. When the towing guy arrived (I didnt get his name, he looked Latino or maybe Italian, kinda stocky build, at least mid 40s) he immediately from the start displayed a very unfriendly face, tone and body language towards me. He first asked me if I was able to get to my tow destination on my own because he was not taking any passengers in his car. In all of my years using roadside service I have always been able to ride with the driver. I think this might be this company's policy during the pandemic to not take passengers. Since my insurance did not tell me ahead of time that I wouldn't be able to ride with the driver I was very surprised and didn't even know how to react. He became very impatient with me and said you need to make up your mind right now if you want this tow service because you're blocking traffic which wasnt true because my car was parked in the shoulder/bike lane for 30 minutes before he arrived and all the cars were able to go around me. He then said that I could uBer to the location and to that I asked him if he could wait till uBer came before driving off so we both could arrive at the tires service place at the same time. I just didn't want him to get there 10 minutes before I arrived and have my car sit there unattended. Anyways my issue with him was not at all about not allowing me to ride with him or not waiting till uBer came for me, it was more about his very unfriendly and disrespectful tone in answering my questions. Our exchange happened very quickly all within a couple of minutes and the whole time he was acting like he didn't wanna have anything to do with me at all! After he said no to waiting for my uBer to arrive he picked up his phone and called my insurance and told them I was denying his service. I told him I was not denying his service and that I was just asking him questions and was trying to figure out what my options were. Looking back through hindsight I really think that this driver had completely failed to let my insurance know that he wasn't taking passengers and to think he acted like a total asshole to me on top of failing to tell my insurance that he wasn't taking passengers is so unprofessional beyond words! I don't know how many other drivers they have working for them but if this is the only person working for Silva Bros I would not recommend this company at all because I would not want anyone to go through what I did with this driver! People who get a flat tire and need towing service want a friendly face to come and help them because they are in a bind and they usually have to wait at least 30 minutes before someone arrives. Even if you can't provide the service at least be friendly and respectful. This driver completely ruined my whole day after my interaction with him! read more

I just got off the phone with Niko who gave us a more than fair price for our clunker car. My husband and I have been shopping around the area for quotes, and have received either terrible offers for our car or just plain rudeness over the phone by the person giving us a quote. Niko provided us with a fair market price, as well as a sympathetic ear to our situation. He was helpful in giving me the requirements needed for the car to be bought and offered to tow the car with no additional charges. FAIL. I called them yesterday to find out if they had a flatbed, and whether their driver was working Easter Sunday. The answer was "yes" to both. I asked for a quote, with the approximate mileage, and was told $125.00. Then, I called today to get their flatbed out to my location (a car I had bought to bring home as a parts source for another vehicle I'm restoring.) "Oh, I forgot to tell you yesterday that the owner gave the flatbed driver the day off. Let me call him, though, and I'll call you back." ... "Okay, I just talked to the guy, and he said he'd make yours the last stop of the day, but he'd have to have $200 to do it." So, I politely told the dispatcher to fold it until it was all pointy little corners and shove it right up his butt. The guy from the tow company I ended up hiring for the job, San Jose Towing, Inc. (408-226-7255), did a MASTERFUL job with his truck, knew the place where I got the car ("Oh, you bought it from the old guy with all the cars in his back yard!") and knew the owner of Silva's towing. He told me that, after talking to the owner personally, the guy was MAD as hell at his dispatcher. Maybe there's some hope there, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the guys they had there either thought they had me over a barrel and so they were going to really ram it home good, or they were gold bricking and just didn't want to get out of the house today. Well, in either case, San Jose Towing is going to get my local business from now on -- the dude is great and made that flatbed his b*tch. read more

Best Towing Company in San Jose. My clutch went out and I was stuck in a dangerous place and from the moment I called Silva Bros and reached Ray it was a pleasant experience. Not only was it the best customer service, but the driver Ray got to us quickly. It was in the middle of the night and I and my friend were stuck on an on ramp in a dangerous situation. I wish i could give it a 5 but there was a major hiccup. For the most part, they responded timely to my emergency tow. They were suppose to tow my car to the repair shop, but since the it was closed they had to store my vehicle. They had said they would have it out the next day. I called twice and had my insurance company deal with them after. One representative said the tow would be preped for the evening but simply ignored it. I am visiting san jose and will be departi g for texas shortly. All in all with that hiccup, i only had 1 legitamate day to handle buisness with the repair shop. It took them 2 days to get it done and i am still waiting on confirmation as to whether the repair shop have recieved my vehicle. The guy who did my inital tow was awesome, but the admin and paperwork process could use some work. read more
