At first, this place seemed nice. The prices seem high but the meals come with more than you think. For example, the $9 omelet comes with pancakes and hash browns. This would have been fine if the food was good. The food looks good, but once you dig in, it becomes obvious the quality is not there. For example, the bowl of fruit had a couple pieces that were mostly rhines, and also had a few hard melon seeds. How hard is it to seed a cantaloupe? The Ruben had pieces of meat that were as fatty and chewy as undercooked bacon and the chopped steak was nothing more than a grissley hamburger without a bun. Oh, and the French onion soup had no cheese. The only good things were that the food was hot and the service was good. read more

Great people, they were very accommodating (we called ahead & made reservations). We left a memorial service, at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. The distance is convenient, the food is good, great portions for the prices, which are reasonable. My kids enjoyed the free wifi. It has a Denny's like feel to it. Very casual. My gf and I frequent this place; we have become regulars. She prefers the breakfast menu and specifically loves their bacon and waffles. I tend to get lunch; the soup plus potato offering gives a generous portion. My meal always tastes great. It's a nice little place- clean, usually quick and attentive service. Everytime we go there, there's always some kind of issue. From the service being slow, the food being less than mediocre, to the overly priced menu for the poor quality of food. No matter how terrible our experience was I refused to write anything less then a positive review.....however enough is enough. Friday morning I called in a breakfast order of a ham and cheese omelette. Fairly simple-I would have thought. Twice in a row now where I order a breakfast skillet for pick up and the order is not correct. Even after being repeated my order on the phone. The second time I decided to drive back to the restaurent to get it fixed. Wasn't offered anything for wasting my time driving back and waiting for my food to be prepared. Then on my way got stop by a train which is not their fault but could have been avoided if my food was correct the first time. As I'm waiting for my food in the restaurent I'm staring at the manager biting his nails and digging in his mouth with his fingers in front of the cash register. Not very appealing. I had ordered feta cheese on my skillet not American cheese and it was covered in American cheese. Once fixed there was barely any feta cheese I could not taste it very much. Also $16 for a skillet with potato, egg, onion, tomato, green pepper, bacon, and feta with two pieces of bread for pick up. Does that make any sense? I could probably make that meal 5 times for $16 easy. They don't even put a quarter of each vegetable in the skillet and it's $16 and don't mind that's picking up. Looking at $20 dining in for a breakfast 2 eggs a potato 1 strip of bacon and a tablespoon of vegetables. I would not recommend ordering from here. It's the only place in Elwood that is not fast food so it sucks to drive somewhere else but trust me. Get in your car and go somewhere else it will take less time then driving there twice for a $16 breakfast read more

We went here after my sons funeral at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery. Food was tasteless, and the beef could have been used for new soles on your shoes. The chicken was edible, but the rest of the food was bland, or covered with something tasting like a mix of ketchup and tomato sauce. The woman's room smelled like the sewer had backed up and there were no paper towels to dry your hands with, just a few rolls of toilet paper sitting on the baby changing table. After a last minute decision to have a small luncheon after my Dads memorial service at the Abraham Lincoln cemetary, we called the restaurant at 6am and made arrangements for an undetermined amount of people for a luncheon that same day. Seperate tickets even! "Not a problem", they said. If it was over 40 people let them know so they could call an extra server in. The servers worked really hard to accommodate our little group with quirky after funeral requests. Everything was done with a smile. Veterans Day 2018, I stopped in before going to A. Lincoln Cemetery to pay respects. Easy to get a seat and service was fast. I quickly found out why!! The food, even for the price, was nothing to talk about and lacking in flavoring (my leftovers, nearly entire meal) were discarded after two day in fridge. NO senior, NO farmers, NO veterans discount!!! People were not sitting enjoying, they were moving on out. Elwood has good food, it just won't be found at this place. Ordered burger, trying to go low carb I let them keep the fries and the bun. I asked for cottage cheese as a replacement for my fries. They charged me 1.79 for 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. When I questioned them upon check out, I said I let you keep the bun and fries and you still want to charge me 1.79 fior that little bit of cottage cheese. 10/30/12 We had a memorial service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and went to Silver Dollar Restaurant for a luncheon for 90 people. We were very disappointed in the quality of the food. The chicken was swimming in a puddle of grease and the potatoes and gravy had very little taste. The beef was rare, ravioli was not at all flavorful. Little portions and offerings. The ice cream dessert was a small teaspoon portion. When it came to the bill, they tried overcharging us. Children's meals were to cost less and they tried charging them as adults, until we called it to their attention. Only thing good about the whole experience was the service staff. Worst experience by far from this restaurant, order a very simple takeout order. A la mex omelette with toast and a butcher skillet with toast and a side of grits. Drive ten minutes back to my house to indulge to find out that my butcher skillet isn't a skillet but a omelette. ok understandable, go through the rest of it to find the la mex omelette doesn't have its salsa, or sour cream. ok so I call the restaurant back and explain. granted they realized and admitted fault and gave me credit for the skillet for next time. After the call I open the toast thinking ok I'll be able to eat the toast and hash browns. To find another problem the butter on the toast is gritty literally has a texture of grated Parmesan cheese that's really chalky and almost no butter flavor. So my girlfriend calls back to explain and see what exactly the type of butter they use. upon the call the hostess (Amanda) tells her very rudely "I'm sorry if theres gritty butter on your toast if you don't think its safe to eat then don't eat it" and hung up on her. Called immediately back to speak with a manager and she answers the phone n says I'm busy there's alot of tables in here that I'm taking care of and hung up on her again. Now mind you I was in there not even 12 minutes prior to this. There was one table being taken up by a father n his two kids. This service is exactly why I won't be going back, and due to this being the only restaurant in small town Elwood, you would think they would have way better customer service and especially not speak to customers the way she has. After visiting my father's grave at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, I brought my mother here for lunch. The food was great and you get more than enough. The sandwiches we ordered came with soup. Where I live soup you get is in a cup. The Broccoli Cheddar was in a huge bowl. I had the Beef Burrito, and my mother had a Patty Melt. Both were really good and filling. We each took 1/2 of our sandwiches and both soups home to have for dinner. I would stop here again. I'd like to try their breakfast. read more

We had the private room in the back for about 20 people...we had to waitresses and they were awesome..we all got our food at the same time. It was family style. We had rolls which were very good...just lightly has a garlic taste..my husband loved them. He had chicken soup which he said was good and I had a salad. Main course was grilled chicken - very good...beef - kind of bland...mostaccoli - kind of bland..mashed potatoes - very good...green beans with a red sauce on them..I didn't try those but I overheard my cousin say she loved them. I work in the area and have been here many times since they opened. During the first year, the food was above average for a local greasy spoon with daily (apparently) homemade soups. In the last year or so the place has dropped drastically. The food appears to be of a much lesser quality and most of the soups taste like they're either right out of a can or they're so thick that they're inedible. I jokingly call them "cream of cornstarch". The clam chowder is mostly flour and smells like sewage. read more

The workers are usually so nice here!! Especially the older ladies, they are the sweetest! The food is usually really good. I get scrambled eggs, toast, and hash browns every time. But I really really really think there needs to be some flavor with those potatoes. The outsides are always golden and crispy but the insides are SO bland and that's usually the only thing left on my plate when we leave. You can put as much salt and pepper as you want but it really needs some onion or garlic. Nevertheless we love the place and will keep going! read more
