Setting expectations: Ever have a favorite shirt that you never want to throw out because you just love how comfortable it is? Worn and maybe a bit frayed but just feels good? That was this restaurant. There is evidence of a morning rush all around me but we had a clean booth to sit at in this small place. It had decent enough coffee, it is not a latte place. I had the Western omelette with broccoli added. I forgot to say no American cheese but it was still good and most importantly to me not drowning in cheese. It came with American potatoes (similar to hash browns but in bigger chunks) that were amazing. Brown and crisp and somehow not overly greasy. My husband's fries are of the crinkle type and they were crispy and so yummy. My husband had the Patty melt which he also liked. Know this is a privately owned, old, worn restaurant but there is something so relaxing and comfortable about this place. This was much better then I was expecting. It's just your average old time diner in a very cool route 66 town of Wilmington but the food was above average. I ordered a catfish special and hushpuppies and was asked just a filet or the whole fish? So I told our wonderful waitress I'd go with the whole fish I'm not scared of a head and tail and s few bones bring it on!!! A few minutes later here comes my whole fish and I must say it was very tasty and you get more fish this way. My wife and mom both were like I'd never eat that but I sure did. As a bonus all dinners come with either pudding or ice cream for dessert so I had a little butter pecan ice cream to wash it all down!! The staff is friendly. The foods to avoid are the taco salad, gyro, cream of potato soup, and breakfast, very disappointing. However, the fried chicken is a good value and the rueben sandwiches are great. The coffee is a great deal at only $1.29 and tastes great. I am so unimpressed with the lack of service-I purchased $40.00 of gift certificates for a good friend who under the weather, I spoke to Avi,who initially was very accommodating. I Had looked up the prices on line and had asked for a menu to be put with the gift certificates. A meal was ordered that was listed for 7.99. When Avi rang it up-he charged 10.99, a beverage should have been included, this is the first time I have ever seen a food establishment charge 2.00 for a tea bag.(no hot water or cup) and no dessert. He charged 1 &1/2 times whats listed at the end, and then became rude with my friend when he was questioning the upcharge. (calling him a liar) Please don't waste your time or money on a business that's operating dishonestly and does not appreciate your business. Sadly there are hard working waitresses that will end up paying the price for his ill will. We're not from this area, but we were in town for lunch with some family members, who had chosen this place. Wonderful lunch! The portions were huge, and the service was just terrific.
