My husband and I happened upon Spruce while looking for a place to eat in Traverse City. They have a little outdoor area, where most everyone was sitting the day we came. They have good beer - including the sour and IPA we ordered! Chill atmosphere, good, quick service and they also had games for us to play, which is always a fun time.

Marzen - I split the spruce!

This was the first time that I've had a chance to sample beers at Silver spruce brewing. I must've driven or rode my bike by that location 20 or 30 times before stopping in on Friday. Apparently the brewery used to be a family video store, but the brewery was built about seven years ago. They have a super nice patio with a cool fire pit (I went inside due to a lot of rain), a food truck was also at the premises (but I did not order from them). I was greeted right away by the bartender and we discussed a few beers I might like. I ended up ordering a Marzen style (I was told by the bartender it was some of their Oktoberfest that had been fermenting for an additional five months). It was a nice beer, crisp taste with a little more hop profile than what I'm accustomed to in a Marzen. The high top table that I sat at was close to the metal brewing equipment, but had a view of the TV. I enjoyed the music which seemed to be a little bit of everything rock. The second beer I ordered was Schwarzbier, a style that I don't order very often. That beer had a darker color to it, but was really well done with a great profile and caramel notes on aftertaste. I liked it a little bit more than my first beer. If you're looking for a place to try some new beers, I would recommend silver spruce. They aren't trying to do a ton of everything (lots of food or multiple beer choices), but what they are doing is providing a cool place to have a good beer.

This is a great place to bike to for a drink before dinner or just to hang out during the day! We stopped by before dinner and chilled on the outdoor patio, which had a really cool indoor/outdoor vibe. We got the cheese curds from the taco truck in the back, and the sauce was amazing. The service was super quick and easy.

If there was an award for the best remodel of a family video- it would go to silver spruce. Fun inside area, and a massive outdoor patio that just screams summer time. Great selection of brews, and the staff was super friendly and helpful!

SERVICE: 5 FOOD QUALITY: N/A DRINK QUALITY: 5 ORDER TIME: 5 AESTHETICS: 5 NOISE LEVEL: 3 MENU SELECTION: 5 OVERALL EXPERIENCE: 4.67 Was our first stop for kayak, bikes and brew tour. This place seemed very popular due to all the people. Every table, inside and out, had someone sitting at them. The interior is very rustic that is split into two sections. We chose to sit in the back bar near the outdoor seating entrance. Took a little bit to get to the bar to get a drink considering the line of people. The bartender was very polite, and very informative once I was finally able to order. Ordering a beer wasn't hard for me considering their mid size menu. I went with the apricot wild ale, aged in white wine barrels. This was my favorite beer on our tour. The aged white wine barrels was just supreme. For some odd reason it was very loud. I figured with outdoor seating doors rolled up that it wouldn't be that loud but it was hard to have a conversation. Overall, this place was wonderful. The beer was so good. Sadly it was our first stop, and I only had one beer before we were on our way to the next location on our tour. Will definitely be my go to brewery when I go back to traverse city.

Very casual and rustic. The flag says it all for me. The food truck tacos are very well prepared and presented with garnish in plastic free recyclables so I like this place. Happy bartenders and great music selection plus a dog friendly mentality are a BIG PLUS!

The food truck, bear and bull, was better than the beer but the beer was a close second. The food here is from the bear and bull food truck which had plenty of options, especially burgers, and it was phenomenal! I enjoyed the IPA and the open atmosphere here, but they were a bit away from downtown TC which is the only downfall to this place. Great experience!

Really enjoyed this brewery and I am looking forward to going there again. Good beer and plenty of room to sit inside or out.

We came in 30 mins before closing on a Monday and were happy to not be turned away! We drank our beers quickly and shared some great brewery chats with the beerkeeper! The blueberry sour had great flavor!

Some of the best beer brewed in the Traverse City region. The bartenders are all awesome humans and seem to really love what they do. Go here. You won't be disappointed.

    Cherry Sour far right!

Although the wildfire smoke likely kept some people away, we came around mid afternoon in what should be the beginning of prime time hours and the place was empty. Not a good sign. I found it a bit odd that we had to order at the bar, considering only 2 other groups were there. There were like 4 employees just chatting away at the bar as well. At this point I know what I like in craft beers and I usually never have an unpleasant experience trying them, but we liked nothing we ordered on the beer flight! We had put in an order for the BBQ flatbread as an appetizer as well, and the chicken was super dry. I can't blame the sauce for being to spicy since I'm sure it's a popular local brand. That one's on us. We decided to have an actual dinner closer to our cabin.

When we ordered, the bartender didn't drink which made it hard to know what certain beers taste like, but honestly, no judgement because he did the right thing and offered tastes of beer which was awesome and helpful! So service wise I would say great! The beer tasted really good as well and was decently priced. They had a bourbon barrel stout which was pretty good and newly released. The biggest issue we had was with the food. I ordered the spam sandwich with chips and my wife ordered the chicken quesadilla. While the food was cheap, the quality of the food also seems that way too based off what we ordered. The spam sandwich was supposed to be teriyaki flavored, and didn't get any of that. There wasn't a lot of thousand island dressing on it too, which made the sandwich dry. The chips that were served were clearly out of a bag as they were cold, which made it seem like I could have just gotten a bag myself. I would have paid a few dollars extra to get something fresh like fries. While spam comes from a can and I know this, my wife's chicken quesadilla had chicken that was clearly from a can - it was sopping wet, and the meat was very chunky, and very salty. This made us worry the rest of the food may not be very fresh. While we did have that experience, I will say the pretzel bites were really good and did seem fresh, and they were sourdough! So that was nice. I think this place has very good beer, and a really cool bar setup with a nice stage, arcade machines, and much more. However, I wouldn't come back here for lunch. Instead, I would make food at home. I would highly recommend more fresher options, and I would pay a little more for better quality food.

I typically don't like beer, but I love fruit flavors. As an appetizer, we got the red pepper hummus and it was meh--I didn't really like it. It was thick and had the texture of cold refried beans and instead of pita, it was served with tortilla chips that tasted like Tostitos brand. For my flatbread pizza, I chose the Wolverine which was topped with pineapple, pepperoni, jalapeños. I've never had pineapple on pizza so I can't really be a good judge, but it was alright. I liked how thin the crust was. For dessert, we got the mini ice cream bars as recommended by the woman sitting near us. They're Ice Box Brand Ice Cream Bars by a Michigan-based company. It wasn't super busy. Fortunately, once we were seated, our waitress was very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed. We decided to do a flight. My husband and I tried 5 different cider each. I was a huge fan of the cider that reminded me of fall (apples) called Octorock. But the tropical one, skinny dip sunset, came as a close runner up with pineapple and passion fruit strongly coming through. I also tried the Brom, peach and strawberry feels. The peach was probably my least favorite since I couldn't really taste it. It could have just been my taste buds, too! My husband's favorites were the vanilla and the cinnamon ones. I tried both and agreed. The vanilla really came through and was very aromatic and the cinnamon made me think of fall, especially when I drank it after the octorock. I wonder if they have a combination of both in the fall? We also got dinner while there. I had the fennel sausage pizza with their housemate Italian sausage. It was so good! My husband had the jerk pork shoulder served with rice and beans and said it was delicious and flavorful. Overall, it was a successful dinner and a great way to try different cider! The place has modern decor, well spaced larger tables (even the two seaters are quite roomy). They have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly. Since we took our pup on a couple of adventures, she stayed at the house and napped but we saw a few dogs enjoying the beautiful weather and the social time with their humans. This is definitely a great place for a meal or of you're feeling adventurous about ciders. They have a wide variety of selection, and quick, fantastic service (minus grumpus).
