We snagged the last available table and appreciated the good selection of beer and cider. Service was friendly and fast too. Which was good since we were starving. Fried pickles and cheese curds were fresh and not at all greasy. I always appreciate when a kitchen knows how to handle their frying oil. We split the fried apps and a karaage rice bowl for a fine lunch to launch us into the rest of the weekend. I would totally go back to this place. read more

Waitress was kinda crappy but still not a bad place. Do have air conditioning. Pretzels were weird but good. More like a bread. Beer cheese is ok. Which also makes the mac n cheese ahhhh. I wouldn't get it and glad I didn't order it. Beet salad was actually pretty good!! Specially if u like picked beets. Didn't like their homemade dressing that came with it though, it was horrible. Although this isn't technically a brewery, it kinda feels like one.it is a tap room with not a huge menu, but enough variety to please anyone who enters. I've been here a couple times now while visiting TC for work, and I'd come back. Service was great, and food and beer is good. What more do you need? 2026 Went to 7 Monks Taproom for the third time in 3 years (7/6/26). Our server was awesome. Beer was good. The food wasn't as good as 1st year when I got an awesome kimchi brisket dish, but I recognize that may not be a viable menu item for most people, so thanks for the memories. Solidly meh. The beer selection feels completely haphazard, with no real point of view or logic behind it. Worse, a lot of the beers on the list are just not good. Dinner was equally uneven. The fried pickles and cheese curds were solid for what they are, and probably the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, the chicken shawarma was awful. It tasted like someone dumped sumac on it and called it a day. That was basically the entire flavor profile: sumac, sumac, and more sumac. I genuinely would not serve that dish to someone I disliked, let alone a paying customer. Overall, there are a few decent fried bar snacks here, but not enough to make up for the bad beer list and the terrible entrée. I'd avoid it. read more

Ok WHAT happened to 7 Monks? We've been coming here for years and years and have always enjoyed the food, drinks and service. This year we grabbed a table outside and ordered. Not very personable, but ok. Server brought one beer - and it was the wrong one. The pickles & cheese curds were bizarre. Big squares of barely breaded and cold-ish cheese and long pickles. This is a change from before where they actually had curds (as stated on the menu) and round pickles (as they should be). The chicken tenders were a sad cream color instead of browned. Like, WHO sends that out of the kitchen thinking it looks ok to serve. The fried chicken sandwich used to be EPIC. It was thin and dry. Hardly any pickles and just one squeeze of hot honey. So very sad. The burger used to be a smashed burger with a special sauce and now it's not. Are you taking cost out? Is there a new kitchen staff? Not once did the server check on us. Maybe outside, it's just food runners. Yet the suggested tip is 22%. Um no. Not a good experience at all. We are very sad about this and aren't sure we'll return. What happened?????? read more

An interesting place for sure. We found it by scanning the yelp pages for Traverse City. They had a good selection of beers from around Michigan and I asked to taste a couple and they brought two to my table that I sampled and picked one.. We ordered off the menu and the server had a few suggestions for us. I ordered the shaved beef with Gruyère cheese. It was served with Great Lakes potato chips, which are delicious and the sandwich was delicious but there was very very little cheese. It came with an ajus style dipping sauce, which was fine. My friend ordered the grilled cheese with the bacon on the side and it was served with crispy french fries. The sandwich was all right. It was a mix of cheese and they had yellow tomatoes on the cheese sandwich, which weren't really ripe or tasty at all. she had a glass of wine to drink with her her lunch and I had a beer, but nobody came back by to refill our drinks until we were done with our dinners so we didn't order a second. After a long drive to Traverse City, we arrived with a ravenous hunger and 7 Monks did not disappoint! We were seated immediately and ordered quickly after. We got the smash burger and beer cheese Mac which were both 10/10. The special sauce on the smash burger was house made and excellent. The burger was cooked to perfection. The fries were excellent. If you like a little spice, ask for their house made hot sauce. Very nice energy and seating was cozy. Waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. They also had an extensive beer menu on tap. read more

We saw the good reviews on Yelp and decided to give this place a try on our second night in Traverse City. It wasn't too crowded on a Tuesday so we grabbed a table in the bar area. One of the bartenders came over and brought us some waters and menus. We perused the menu and ordered a couple beers - there is alot to chose from. Both were very good. For dinner my wife ordered the beet salad which she liked a lot and I got the fried chicken sandwich which was just OK. It was a bit dry and I asked for some more aioli sauce to go on it. Overall it was decent but I've had better. The staff here was super friendly and helpful. So that was a big plus since the food experience was mixed. read more

Nate and I are regulars at the 7 Monks Taproom in Grand Rapids, so we were excited to check out the location in TC while visiting recently. We walked right in and sat at the bar. They have a lot of beer on tap as well as several cocktails. The food menu is different than the GR location, with a little bit nicer options (although they don't have my favorite ever chicken Caesar salad wrap). We were just grabbing a couple drinks, so I got a strawberry cocktail with vodka that was very strong, and Nate got a beer ($1 off since he is a Monk Club member and your membership is good at either location). The bartenders helping us out were all really nice. The space isn't as cool as the GR location, but I'd come back and try some of the food! read more

I visited 7 Monks Taproom in Traverse City, MI, on a Wednesday evening around 7:30 PM. It was moderately busy with most patrons seated in the bar area. I sat at a booth and was almost immediately greeted by a waiter who brought water to the table. Paper menus were already at the table. After a few more minutes my waitress came by the table to take my drink order. I was delighted to be able to order one of my favorite ales, Chimay Grande Reserve Blue - and it was on tap! I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger, medium. It finally came out of the kitchen about 20 or 25 minutes later. The waitress said the cook wanted to make sure it was prepared correctly since I had stressed I did not want a well done patty. Despite efforts, the patty was well done but I was too hungry to send it back. It was fairly tasty despite being overcooked. In the dining room, there were many TVs elevated well above people's heads and several could be watched from my location. It was a little too noisy to carry on a conversation across the table. I would have given five stars if the cook had a little better judgement. But I would go back if I lived in Traverse City, if only to enjoy my favorite ale. read more

The chef makes the common mistake of putting TEN TIMES the amount of ginger to a dish in order label it "Asian cuisine" -- as a result the Chicken Karaage and Hawaiian rice bowl are inedible (unless you love eating ginger straight no chaser). Monday night not much going on in Traverse City but I found this place and it's the best fried perch I've ever had, not that I have ever had fried perch but this was so fresh, tasty and unlike most bar food lightly breaded vs so heavily coated and fried. Visiting a friend in Elk Rapids and stopped here dinner after being picked up from the airport. When we walked in, the bar tender greeted us right away and made us feel welcomed. This review was just based on the food and service not the beer. Came in to the restaurant with a family of 5 to grab an early lunch before hitting the road and we were happily surprised. The service was really friendly (both server and bartender). They had just opened for the day and we were the 2nd or 3rd customers. We ordered a few juicy burgers, chicken sandwiches, and Mac and cheese. Everything was awesome! Crispy shoe string fries were perfect. Place did smell like a few beers had spilled on the floor the night before but our table and area were very clean.
