I love the IPA!!! So amazing! And always have jazz music show so happy to go every time

My girlfriend and I recently returned from a vacation to the area, we spent a day in Traverse City. I wasn't impressed with the Workshop in the slightest. Although the wildfire smoke likely kept some people away, we came around mid afternoon in what should be the beginning of prime time hours and the place was empty. Not a good sign. I found it a bit odd that we had to order at the bar, considering only 2 other groups were there. There were like 4 employees just chatting away at the bar as well. At this point I know what I like in craft beers and I usually never have an unpleasant experience trying them, but we liked nothing we ordered on the beer flight! We had put in an order for the BBQ flatbread as an appetizer as well, and the chicken was super dry. I can't blame the sauce for being to spicy since I'm sure it's a popular local brand. That one's on us. We decided to have an actual dinner closer to our cabin. read more

So I want to be cautious here as I know there is new ownership from what I heard. My wife and I came here spontaneously as we were in town for the weekend. When we ordered, the bartender didn't drink which made it hard to know what certain beers taste like, but honestly, no judgement because he did the right thing and offered tastes of beer which was awesome and helpful! So service wise I would say great! The beer tasted really good as well and was decently priced. They had a bourbon barrel stout which was pretty good and newly released. The biggest issue we had was with the food. I ordered the spam sandwich with chips and my wife ordered the chicken quesadilla. While the food was cheap, the quality of the food also seems that way too based off what we ordered. The spam sandwich was supposed to be teriyaki flavored, and didn't get any of that. There wasn't a lot of thousand island dressing on it too, which made the sandwich dry. The chips that were served were clearly out of a bag as they were cold, which made it seem like I could have just gotten a bag myself. I would have paid a few dollars extra to get something fresh like fries. While spam comes from a can and I know this, my wife's chicken quesadilla had chicken that was clearly from a can - it was sopping wet, and the meat was very chunky, and very salty. This made us worry the rest of the food may not be very fresh. While we did have that experience, I will say the pretzel bites were really good and did seem fresh, and they were sourdough! So that was nice. I think this place has very good beer, and a really cool bar setup with a nice stage, arcade machines, and much more. However, I wouldn't come back here for lunch. Instead, I would make food at home. I would highly recommend more fresher options, and I would pay a little more for better quality food. read more

Love this spot! Live music, outdoor seating, and a huge bar. The bartenders are always moving and will take good care of you. The food is awesome, big portion, and pare great with whatever you're drinking. read more

It'll be worth your salt to visit the Workshop Brewing Company. It's a comfortable, kick-back, garage kind of joint with an eclectic playlist running in the background. The beer is among the best in the area - it's up there with The Filling Station in TC and Hop Lot in Suttons Bay. Dave's food stands with it. His Pretzel Bites and Black Bean Fire Crackers make a meal for two. Pair 'em with Tenpenny if you like a blonde ale, or Twenty Pound Sledge if you prefer an American IPA. Oh, and Andrea is one of the sharpest bartenders in town. When the Workshop is busy, she handles the flow of customers and beer with the skill and grace of an air traffic controller. Workshop has great beverage choices - tasty brews, craft cocktails, kombucha, wine, cider.... lots of excellent choices! The vibe is fun; good location. I would not, however, eat here again. Fun bartender. Nice selection of beer and even vodka drinks for me. They make their own vodka, gin and whiskey. The spent grain pretzels with their Tenpenny beer cheese is delicious. The smoked wings with their honey garlic sauce were outstanding. The smoker is outside. read more

Stopped in here with some friends while in Traverse City. Nice selection of beers and even some very unique ones. Tried a couple and liked them both. Ordered burgers and sat on the outside patio. The burgers came fast and had a very nice bacon jam on them. They were good size and very flavorful. This is a great place to stop if you want some good burgers and tasty beer. read more

Pleasantly surprised by the brew works- but in the best kind of way. Open seating with a patio seat area, and picnic tables out front for partial views of the bay. Great beer selection, the cold snap IPA was delicious. This place had a bad vibe even walking in, everyone at the bar just stared and gave dirty looks. The bartender was sitting on a stool chatting with friends and didn't even acknowledge us. Finally he said what do you want? I don't do flights and no small pours - didn't really give me the vibe to try anything. It wasn't a friendly hang out type of place. We grabbed a beer and went outside- still being stared at. The beer was flat and didn't taste anything like a Hefeweizen. We didn't even finish the beer just left. read more

Ambiance and drinks are still great. If you are careful with your salt intake this food is not the for you ! Chili was almost inedible, brisket was good but over salted! It's not necessary to use that much salt to make delicious smoked meals or foods in general. Service was great! It always has been. read more

Excellent beers, cute place, great outdoor seating. It's street-side but it's a pretty quiet street. Dog friendly outside. We were crazing pizza--we smelled theirs as we walked out of Mammoth one night, so we came here a couple days later for pizza and beer. Pizza is by Pizza Parliament--geez, fantastic! You order inside & get texted when it's ready. We went simple, cheese & pepperoni--it was INCREDIBLE! I'm craving it again, as I sit here & think about it. 'Bi-Partisan' (they all have cute neutral political names) was a three cheese blend, some herbs (?) mixed in & pepperoni. It was SO GOOD! No pics, sorry, but the crust is fantastic--chewy, crispy bottom that holds up we'll go the toppings, puffy edges; really excellent. We ate leftovers for breakfast before leaving TC. Can't wait to have it again, sigh.... read more

Stumbled upon this cool little place while being in the area. It looks small from the outside, but it was bigger than I thought on the inside. The ambiance was a little dark, but not enough for it to be weird. Plenty of board games to choose from and even adult games behind the bar. There is a separate spot to order food. We enjoyed a beer while grabbing some cheese bread. I will say that their ranch is not delicious for those of you ranch lovers out there. They also had a cool chalkboard to get your friends drinks if they don't happen to be with you at the time. It's a clever idea that I've seen at a few places. Currently they have a good view to the water, but they will lose that as soon as the new development goes in across the street. The Workshop Brewing Company is a cool small brewery with a uniqueness all his own. Upon entering you find a convenient coat rack to put your layers when you come in from the cold. The bohemian industrial atmosphere makes this a great place to laugh and relax with you pals. Some tables are made from old table saws and creates a funky workshop look. During my visit I tried the bean wrap, pizza, and wings. The bean wrap was good, but could use a little more filling to round it out as a item on it's own. Pizza and wings were great. Lots of flavor and very enjoyable. The crust was soft, and crispy on the outside. In the front of the building they have an igloo that can be reserved for groups and events. I tried a nitro porter, which was nice and smooth with a solid bit of foam on the to. Definitely would recommend if you're into porters. Guten Appetit and Enjoy Responsibly! read more

HUGE fan of Workshop-- the beers are solid and varied, with something for literally anyone (including ciders if need be gluten-free) and the food is tops. Of course the styles will vary according to what's on draft and the season, but at least when I was there I was a big fan of the Uncapper, which was a really refreshing honey ale (not sweet like a lot of honey craft beers, just wonderfully aromatic and crushable) and enjoyed their ESB, too. Foodwise, this place crushes it-- in fact, I was such a fan that I made it my last meal in TC before catching my flight. Why? Two words: DILL BREAKER. This is the weirdestly most delicious pizza you'll ever have, and you never knew you wanted it. While I'm normally not a white pizza kind of lady (pepperoni and tomato sauce for life) this quickly became my fav pie in town, and it's completely bizarre, featuring dill pickle slices amidst the glorious garlicky creaminess of its cheeses. I don't know how or why, but this pickle pizza just WORKS. Even my boyfriend enjoyed a slice, and he's not really much of a pickle man. If you're a garlic fiend, give it a try. It's also worth mentioning that the buffalo wings are awesome, and there's a gorgeous spent grain pretzel that is aromatic enough to want to sell as a room spray. Of course, it's also a great chill place to hang during summer, with a view of the bay and a nice breeze, and there's often live music in the evenings. After taking a much needed nap we were ready to go again! This evening, our plans were to hit a couple breweries. This was on our list for tagabrews. This spot was pretty cool but also crowded. Open air atmosphere. There was live music and these guys were really jamming! We love live music as long as it's not too loud. And this wasn't. You have to stand in line at the counter to order your beer. That's not really my favorite way to go. Not sure if that's a covid thing or just how they do it. They did get through the line relatively quickly though. So that was not too bad. That had a decent selection of beer. We ordered and then we chose a seat outside and enjoyed people watching. We only stayed for one beer and then moved on. We would come back. The beers were good and the service was friendly, fast, and efficient. First-rate microbrewery. They always have a variety of styles on tap, and every one is brag-worthy. The beers are meticulously true-to-style, and well-executed, but don't expect unusual or experimental brews. There is no kitchen, but there's usually a food truck on site. By the time we stopped at The Workshop I was too full from dinner to try any beer so I can't speak to it. However, the space is awesome. TONS of outdoor seating with picnic tables and plenty of tables inside so you can listen to the live music. Our favorite brewery in TC so far! Wide open space, open garage doors to Lake Michigan and friendly, accommodating staff. Kid-friendly and even a kids menu (ours had the cheese pizza which is big enough for two). We tried the slamburger and beef bahn mi and all but licked our plates clean. My favorite brew was the Stonepicker, a tart cherry ale that's light but not very sweet. My husband loved the Pry Bar nitro porter. We enjoyed it so much we grabbed an insulated aluminum growler of the Stonepicker to take away. And oh the flights! Four 8 ounce pours of your choice. That's a generous two full beers. read more

We tried to get a table at another brewery closer to the middle of town, but they had a wait so we walked the extra ten minutes down to here...I'm so glad we did!!! First of all, it smells amazing in there, beer and nachos and chicken and jalapeños...just incredible! We sampled lots of different kinds, my favorite was the cold chisel, a Belgian white beer. Perfect summer day drinking. We were hungry, we we all demolished a plate of chicken nachos, some potato wedges and more chips and queso. We were still hungry so we ordered a bunch of their chicken tacos, which were messy and juicy and delicious! Kind of a little way off the main drag, but for sure worth a stop!!! read more

I haven't been to this place in a few years, because I'm usually not much of a beer person - cocktails and cider are more my deal. I'm happy to announce that not only do they offer cider, it's absolutely delicious, and the food menu is incredible as well. My partner and I got nachos and some side plates to share and everything was amazing. Super fast and courteous service and a generously sized patio, which is great because we're not only avoiding indoor dining due to covid, but because we had our dog with us. The staff was very kind and excited to meet my dog, and gave him a bowl with ice water and many pets. We felt very welcome and it was a wonderful place to stop and unwind for the evening. Oh my, where to start. The inside is spacious and dark, but the entrance is large so the whole place is open air. The patio is about as big as the interior. Plenty of seating. The beer is good but beer is better when paired with good food and chocolate! Handmade local truffles are offered by the piece, or in a flight, to pair with your beer flight. The food looked amazing too, though we were too full from our stop at the Filling Station. The Workshop is located off a side street from the main road along the lake. Not a great view but great place to take a load off and get a meal with a good beer. Lots of friendly staff that are pros at handling the drunken kayakers coming off the lake.
