Started out a little awkward when the hostess acted very unenthusiastic about our presence, especially when we said we would like a table after she said we can go sit at the bar without even asking our preference. It wasn't super busy. Fortunately, once we were seated, our waitress was very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed. We decided to do a flight. My husband and I tried 5 different cider each. I was a huge fan of the cider that reminded me of fall (apples) called Octorock. But the tropical one, skinny dip sunset, came as a close runner up with pineapple and passion fruit strongly coming through. I also tried the Brom, peach and strawberry feels. The peach was probably my least favorite since I couldn't really taste it. It could have just been my taste buds, too! My husband's favorites were the vanilla and the cinnamon ones. I tried both and agreed. The vanilla really came through and was very aromatic and the cinnamon made me think of fall, especially when I drank it after the octorock. I wonder if they have a combination of both in the fall? We also got dinner while there. I had the fennel sausage pizza with their housemate Italian sausage. It was so good! My husband had the jerk pork shoulder served with rice and beans and said it was delicious and flavorful. Overall, it was a successful dinner and a great way to try different cider! The place has modern decor, well spaced larger tables (even the two seaters are quite roomy). They have an outdoor patio that is dog friendly. Since we took our pup on a couple of adventures, she stayed at the house and napped but we saw a few dogs enjoying the beautiful weather and the social time with their humans. Found this place through an Instagram recommendation and the food looked healthy and fresh so I wanted to go. They specialize in ciders, so of course I had to get one and it went perfectly with the grilled cheese I got! It seems like they're very focused on using fresh in-season ingredients and supporting local farms. The grilled cheese and hummus were really good. The only downside is the price felt like a rip off for what you got. $17 for a grilled cheese is pretty crazy, and considering it only comes with potato chips. To upgrade to tater tots it's $6 which is already super pricey, but there was truly nothing special about them to even justify that price--they weren't that great and they don't give you a lot. Not sure if they were made from scratch. It's a casual restaurant that also has a bar and some outdoor seating. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated on a Friday evening, which was fine because we were able to walk around and explore the shops until they texted us. read more

As cider fans, this spot was a real treat. So many cider varietals to try - we went with lots of sample pours throughout the night, then settled on some pints. This spot is also dog friendly on their outdoor patio and didn't have a wait (unlike some other spots). We found their food to be excellent - no one had a single complaint. Fun and unique twist on a grilled cheese, really tasty monkey bread, and I did the birria taco plate, which was fantastic. Service was soo nice. I wanted to come back here again the next night! As a cider lover, Taproot checks all the boxes! It's situated right in the heart of Front Street downtown, easy walk ability to get to. Clean inside. Food: Kung pao cauliflower is out of this world good. Punch of flavor, a little spice, great crispy texture. Walleye sandwich. Had never had walleye before, which is strange being from Michigan, as so prevalent in Lake Michigan. I won't say it was my favorite sandwich, but it was okay. Fish cooked perfect. I think it was the jalapeño Apple tartar sauce that I wasn't a fan of. I love jalapeños. I love apples. Just.... not together. Cider: great selection, as expected! I can't remember where it was from, but an exceptionally delicious one that had Madagascar vanilla blended it. It was SO SMOOTH. Totally Roasted by Vandermill is always a winner in my book too. They have so many, always changing. Try them all. This continues to be a craveable go to for me. This is an annual trek. We will generally eat 2 or 3 meals here in a couple days. This is vegan friendly and, even better, vegan unique and delicious. Although the vegan options are less than prior, they are delicious, even for the non-vegan foodies. Fabulous decor, even after the remodel following the fire. Lovely detail. First time coming here, me and my wife came here during a date night in the area and this place was the perfect fit. This place had an incredible menu with me and her both like and there were such an incredible array of hard ciders for us to try and from various local cideries from the area. To be a little nitpicky I did feel like some of the items were a bit overpriced and it's strange that my wife got charged $5 for a little bit of extra tofu. If you're in Traverse City and want a nice spot to vibe with a cool beverage and a plant based meal the Taproot could be for you. They have a nice little outdoor space where you can chill watch the ongoings of the streets around you (which is where I sat). The inside is pretty cool too decorated with pieces of driftwood and it has a nice vibe to it. We had a couple of their house ciders that were pretty good too. Off the menu we had a firewood pizza with was vegan and the Asian cauliflower starter also vegan both were very good. There are also many other vegan options to choose from too. We had dinner here, and it was amazing! I definitely recommend eating here during your visit to traverse city. My friend recommended that we eat here, and it didn't disappoint. I was so immersed in enjoying our food that I forgot to take photos. My son got the grass fed beef fried rice, and he loved it. The steak was so tender. It was a large portion, so you could share. My daughter got the adult grilled cheese with apple slices and bacon. It was the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Again, it was a large sandwich do you could share. My husband got the fish tacos, and he said they were perfect. The walleye fish was flavorful. It only comes with two tacos (about street taco size), so you might need to order more. We knew we'd have extra food from our kids, so it was fine. I had the best salad and added grilled chicken. It was so flavorful and fresh! We ordered there two desserts- strawberry shortcake lemon blueberry tart. Wow, they were both so good. Simple and fresh ingredients. We were looking for a place to eat that was relevantly close to our house and this place does not take reservations so we put our name in and then wandered around the downtown until our name was called. We picked this place because the menu looked good and they had a variety of ciders to choose from, and we were very pleased with the cider selection and the food that we ordered. We came as a walk-in on a sunday evening and had to wait about 10 minutes for an inside table. We waited at the bar and decided to get a cider flight. They have a large selection of rotating draft ciders and we got to try 4 different ones. All of them were really delicious, the el chavo cider that was flavored with habanero peppers was my favorite one. They each had unique flavor profiles and they seem to have a wide range of ciders for different preferences. After we were seated, we ordered our dinner. I got the Taproot grilled cheese for my main, as I love a fruity grilled cheese. The bacon was crispy, and the house french bread has a good bite but still is soft to melt with the other ingredients. The apricot jam and apples were a nice contrast to what I believe was gouda cheese. The house made chips that came with it had such a good crunch to them. My partner got the Caesar salad and as lovers of Caesar dressing, this one passes the test. It was a large salad and the dressing was plentiful. (didn't get a picture) The service was pretty good and our waitress was able to help us navigate the allergens we had at the table. We went with a side salad to share, as well as a flight and glass of cider. They specialize in ciders which I usually love. I liked that you can get a flight of whatever kinds you want, you just pay $3 per sample. I chose 3 different ciders but they were out of the one I really wanted (cherry ginger). I got a peach, lavender, and another semi-dry. They were all just okay for me, but the peach was my favorite. The salad was generously sized for a "side" salad, and had some fun additions like apples and candied nuts. Our server was really nice and very welcoming. Absolutely LOVED Taproot! The selections of ciders were awesome and I liked that they had different to-go size options. I built my own flight and was able to try several different brands of cider that I'd never heard of. I'm a big cider person, and attend the national cider summit frequently, so I was especially impressed how many microbreweries they had on draft that I'd never had before. Plus, the food was DELICIOUS. The options were healthy, nutritious, and farm-to-table but absolutely not lacking in flavor. I had the Farmhouse Mac & Cheese with leeks, apples, and jalapeños. It's up there as one of my favorite Mac & cheeses ever! My husband had a taco plate - which was disappointing because it was only 2 tacos. When advertised as a "plate", we were definitely expecting at least some rice and beans or something. He was still hungry after the tacos, which led to our favorite dish... The Thai Chicken Meatballs with peanut sauce were SO GOOD!! We seriously debating coming back another day of our trip just to get them again. Stopped into Taproot Cider House in Traverse City and split the Korean bowl and wahoo tacos with a friend. The bowl was nothing special and felt a bit overpriced, but the tacos were fantastic, even on corn tortillas, which normally aren't my favorite. The restaurant itself is pretty average overall, but I still enjoyed my time. It was super crowded, so I was grateful we were able to grab a couple seats at the bar. I'm lost for words. This place is literally one of my favorite restaurants that I've ever been to, and I don't even live in Michigan! I went there for vacation and let me just say, I WILL be going again. The food was so good and healthy, that you wouldn't even notice. This was a good experience with decent food. We came here on a Sat evening when Traverse City was buzzing with people because of the cherry festival. Thankfully, there were tables available and we got seated immediately. Our server, Emily, was very nice, so a shout-out to her. They have several options for people with dietary restrictions, which was nice to see. We ordered the house special three bean soup, the smoked trout Caesar salad, the fish tacos and the Pappas con rajas tacos. We also got the cherry ginger cider and the spicy mojito. The soup was the best part of the meal - super delicious! They had first told us of another soup as the special which sounded better, but it was changed and this one was also wonderful. The tacos were decent enough. Are they the best tacos I have had? No, but they were good enough to finish. The salad was delicious because my brother cleaned up the whole plate. The cherry ginger cider was actually more ginger-y and less cherry than I expected. I didn't particularly enjoy the mojito. It was slightly spicy as expected, but I think the spicy flavor took away from the mojito flavor. It was also lined with sugar on the rim. That took away from the spicy flavor. It felt like a confused drink. The ambiance is chic urban garden vibe...a little dark but fitting for a cider house. The music was good. Parking is along the street or in public parking lots. This place was so good. It was warm and lively inside, such a vibe with it snowing too. The cider list and make your own flight was amazing. Loved getting to try a bunch of them, and it was so affordable. Service was also really good. Our waitress was kind and super helpful. I got the acorn squash and risotto, I didn't love it. It was a bit bland and there's no salt at the table. Risotto was also a bit underdone, so common in kitchens it seems. The shepards pie was amazing though, I stole most of my partners meal lol.
