Honestly, one of the best restaurants I've been to in Michigan so far. The food was phenomenal and felt like truly elevated dining. Everything came out fast, hot, and full of flavor. I understand that some people may be put off by the higher prices, but sometimes the price reflects the quality of the ingredients, preparation, and overall experience. We stopped here on a recent outing with my parents to the TC area. Service here was truly amazing, so so accomodating of our group. Went out of their way to help our group. Cocktails were very tasty and the food was delicious - and plentiful. I went for a salad and felt like I ended up eating less than half of it. My husband and I visited Poppycocks and had an amazing time! The food was great, and our server was phenomenal. I am dairy-free and had quite a few options - I ended up ordering the dirty fries to share and the Brussel sprouts as my main dish. The fries were amazing and the Brussel sprouts were good... not the best I've ever had, but that's due to personal taste (I prefer a bit more savory, whereas the sauce had sweet notes). My husband ordered the honey-mustard glazed pork with pumpkin puree (the social). Between the fries and his entree, he said that it was the best meal that he's had in a long time! Tonight I met with a few colleagues for the first time here and it didn't disappoint. The service was speedy and on top of everything. The food was amazing. I got the short rib and would recommend it if you are visiting. For dessert I got the tiramisu which was a little bit different than a standard tiramisu and it was really good and would recommend that as well. The drinks were delicious and the servers were amazing. The place was buzzing with people even on a Wednesday night and we really enjoyed our time. We shared the brussel sprouts and soup as an appetizer and then I got the shrimp and grits and my husband ordered the chicken. The bruseel sprouts were spiced well and the chili coconut sauce qas amazing! The entrees were also exceptional. Everything we had was awesome! The service was great! What more can I say?! From the outside we thought it was gonna be a diner style restaurant. It was more of American/curry infused cuisine. It's not often you find a restaurant that has an entire section of their menu for vegetarian and even vegan options!! We started with the veggie tostadas, very good! I had a hard time deciding on my entree with so many well curated options, but I went with the Aloo Gobi curry which was delicious!! My husband had the market steak (pretty reasonably priced) and he loved that as well! It is a smaller restaurant, so there are tables in odd nooks to make more dining space, but I think that adds to their eclectic menu and space. It seemed like we got there right before the Friday night dinner rush. We received all of our food promptly, but not too fast, and we didn't feel rushed to get out of there. read more

We returned here for a second time after over a year, because our first experience was great. The second time around was also excellent. Come early, because it fills up fast. We were able to walk in and get seated around 5 pm, and by the time we left they were at least two thirds full. Service is friendly, seating is comfortable throughout, though it can get a little noisy when the place fills up. I had the Baked Eggplant w/red pepper pesto, asparagus, zucchini, spinach, roasted shallot and basil cream and feta. Flavors were popping everywhere, they do a great job using intense ingredients and not too much of them to make every bite outstanding, and the portions are just right. In addition, we had a green salad with toasted quinoa and grilled shrimp. The small salad was more than an adequate portion. For dessert we had the key lime pie, with an abundant graham cracker crumb crust, piped whipped cream, and a raspberry coulis on the plate. Another great place to dine in Traverse City that I fully endorse. Don't miss it. read more

In TC for the Bayshore Marathon, first time visitor to Poppycocks for the dinner menu. Tables jammed with an hour wait, but a seat opened up at the bar, stomach said "do not wait" so I settled in and was greeted by a lovely lady who must have been the bar manager (sorry I did not get your name). A food Angel who attended to my need and was ever so gracious. Selected the Lamb Ragu dish and was met with Pasta Perfection! No room for desert but a succulent looking selection. The seafood stew here is amazing. Broth is to die for and could drink it, it was so good! My husband and I split the whitefish cakes and an appetizer and those were so flavorful. The green sauce with them is sweet but savory. My husband for the beef stroganoff and it was lack luster sadly. It came out room temp, super soupy, and little to no flavor. Not sure what happened there, but was bummed. Would recommend this place to anyone and we have taken our out of town family here numerous times! read more

Came here for lunch on a fall afternoon. Inside was welcoming but noticed a lot of flies which was off putting? Lots of tables and booths, along with bar top seating. Restrooms are in the back. Lots of local art on the wall for décor. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Great menu with tons of options! My husband went with the grilled cheese and it was amazing especially the parmesan crusted sourdough. So much ooey gooeyness in the grilled cheese. I went with the trio soups but was disappointed with one of the soups being out (ham and pea was out). The soups were tomato spinach, southwest corn and quinoa, and some type of wedding chicken soup? The trio soups are samples for the most part portion wise. The southwest corn and quinoa was my favorite but all of the soups were delicious. I also got the whitefish cakes which was a great choice. Two good pieces of whitefish cakes - lots of fish. Getting our bill and checking out took a bit. But overall was a good experience and would come back! read more

We went to Poppycocks based on a recommendation and the service and drinks were phenomenal... The food, however, was lacking. Two of us got pasta dishes - the Lamb Ragu and the brisket stroganoff, while the other person got the beef short ribs. The short ribs were DELIGHTFUL and legit a perfect dish. While you could tell the base flavors of the pasta dishes would be good if the seasoning ratios were correct, they sadly missed their mark pretty considerably. Both dishes were "just ok", but would have faired better in review had the flavors been dialup up significantly. A side note is that we did ask for a recommendation on which pasta dish we should pick, and the other option was the Mac and Cheese. Our server steered us away from that option, and TBH if it was as lackluster as the pastas we did order, this review would have been even less. For the pasta dishes we did get, while the noodle to sauce/meat ratio for the ragu was relatively good, the brisket stroganoff was especially disappointing in that regard as well. With a price point of $30, my (fair) expectation is that it would have a good amount of brisket served with the dish as well as have a good balanced flavor... This was not the case. To make the stroganoff dish worse, the brisket that was included was chopped extremely finely to the point where it was difficult to get a bit of it on the fork with the bites. Definitely steer clear. In the end, by no means were the dishes inedible, when you're spending $30 for a pasta dish, I definitely expect more & better. I'm not the person to send things back to the kitchen, but I'll be honest this was one of the times that I actually considered it. In terms of location, it was a pretty cute venue. You could tell the location likely used to be a diner, but they rehabbed it pretty well. I do wish the entrance was set up slightly differently because we visited during a snowstorm/cold weekend, and each time the door opened the entire dining area was equally icy. Obviously this isn't a quick/easy/cheap fix, but it did make for a chilly dinner between new arrivals. While there was a good selection of desserts and they all looked amazing, we didn't save room for them. Finally, the two great things that we thoroughly enjoyed were the service and the drink choices/quality - both were top notch. This said, if we ever decide to return, we'll stop in just for the drinks or order something not contained in the pasta section. read more

Ordered the seared salmon, three chips with one piece of seared salmon on each with shredded lettuce and pickled something. Honestly it tasted great, just not enough. Port prime rib, actually pretty good and would suggest it. My wife got the chicken legs and she liked them, another suggested item to get. Got the coconut lemon desert, tasted great, but it looks nothing like the pic on the website!!! Server was great and knowledgeable. Stopped in a month ago for dinner. First time here. Met friends of ours and this was there choice. Interior is very nice. A straight shot from the front to the back. Lots of booths. Beautiful bar area in the front. We had reservations but did not seem to need them. Jeffery was our server and he did a great job. Friendly, informative, and a sense of humor. My wife ordered the beef brisket stroganoff. I ordered a special that was a gold salmon filet that came with rice pilaf, green beans, and some fancy sauces and reductions. We had a apple crisp and a chocolate silk for dessert. The meal was very good. The service was very good. But the prices for the entrees were very high. 29 for the stroganoff and 36 for the salmon. We knew what they were before ordering but I can't say they were worth those prices. Still a enjoyable meal and next time I am ordering the white fish cakes and a harvest salad to try something new. We did not have reservations and were able to get a table for 4. They said 1/2 is for reservations and the rest for walk ins. The margarita with the Habanero was heartburn in a cup. Would not get unless you love spicy! The wine selection was very good we had the Sauvignon special. Our Waiter Levi was fantastic. He was honest about what was good and not and provided us with excellent service. We had the key lime shrimp butter sauce with pasta. Loved it and cream brûlée for dessert. The cauliflower appetizer was super delicious full of flavor and had a great sauce. The butternut squash also good flavor. We wanted to split it and they served it on two different plates without us asking. The service was excellent. What's the one place in Traverse City you have to eat at when you're there? For us it's poppycockstc. Everything is always very fresh & ?very delicious. The desserts are phenomenal!!! This time we indulged in the luxurious key lime pie. Super thick graham cracker crust with a creamy, tangy key lime filling served with a side of whipped cream to help cut the flavor just a bit. Ohhhhh We also loved the famous Tomato Spinach Swiss soup. Even on a hot summer day, we still had to get this favorite. Highly recommend the delicious Cherry Chicken Salad Sandwich & the Green Plate - flatbread with an assortment of local mushrooms, sweet onion, asparagus on a creamy brie drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette.
