Went for a comedy show had a blast was a great place. I felt odd walking into what seemed to be a cowboy bar but it was a great time. They had great food specials also $1 toots and fries and even a $1 burger! The comedy show was great and the price was even better! ***WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY*** I used to go to this bar when they had old owners and old bartenders but didn't like what the new owners have done. Anyways I gave this place a go on Halloween and was extremely disappointed. The bartenders had quite big attitudes and the drinks were not consistent, you think if they couldn't make a drink right they would at least have a consistent price, but just like I read prior they weren't. My boyfriend would go up to get me a drink and it was a decent price but when I would go up they charged me more and it was not made like the last. Extremely disappointing. To top it off the female bathrooms were no where near up to par and I felt like I was walking into a swine infested pit. Too busy to clean bathrooms? Maybe look into hiring more people with better attitudes. To add to this the new owner took the bull out?! Why?! To ruin the fun and take away someone else's job? Seems like it. That was a big reason my friends and I would drive from Dallas to come out but the new owners have completely ruined the place. Will never go again and as more people ask me how the Spur is (surprisingly a lot since I used to go to Chemeketa) I'll continue to tell them the truth. read more

A bit country for my taste. Not a fan of country music or dances associated to country. But I did give it a go with a group of friends. parking is tight and small lot. The bar is rather slow. I went there to the bar and a bunch of white people looked at me as if I was foreign. I am asian, and I was eyed by other around me and the bartender in not a good way, but like "oh look someone new," really didn't feel great about this place. Ok... New owners and new outlook. The bartenders are not consistent with the drink prices and that is frustrating. I've been in and out of this place many times over the years and the last few owners. In fact my husband was security with my brother for the last owner. Back in 2006 it was GREAT! they mixed it up and had indoor music country style and then on occasion outdoor music that was more top 40. It was fun then. Then for a while they just progressively got worse even dangerous with who they let in and did or didn't cut off drink wise. NOW the have new owners I hear and they took the bull out. and made some other small changes. Its kinda got a different vibe so I there is potential here. So I guess what I'm tryna say is I have mixed feelings about it. I'll have to check it out again sometime. read more

Was born and raised in Salem but had never gone to a bar here in my life since I ended up going to school in LA. Currently home for the holidays, I went out with some of the girls for a bachelorette party here and ended up having a blast. It's a $5 cover charge, which I think is a steal compared to the $20 cover charge in Hollywood, and drinks are relatively cheap as well. Most shots are around 6-ish dollars and so are the mixed drinks. They have the basic beers on tap but nothing too fancy. They play country music until midnight and you can expect a lot of line dancing, but it isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. Even if you jump in without a clue as to what you're doing, no one is gonna judge you, and let's hope they're too tipsy to notice ;) Once it's 12, they play contemporary and top 40 music. You can expect a crowd of older cowboys and cowgirls and a bunch of students. I definitely saw some cougars wrangling in some of the youngins haha. All in all, a good place to have some laid-back fun. WARNING: DO NOT PARK NEAR THE LONE OAK TAVERN. Apparently they have a stick up their ass and are completely bitter due to the fact that their tavern remains vacant and depressing while everyone piles into Silver Spur. If you are parked ANYWHERE near them, they find it necessary to go and have your cars towed since they have nothing better to do than to wallow in their misery. Two of my friends got their cars illegally towed, as there weren't any signs indicating they couldn't park there. It was $250 to get the cars back. Buzzkill. read more

I love the spur. It's a real country bar with great ambiance and good drink prices. It gets crowded but I never have trouble finding my way back to the bar although some nights the line does get backed up. Most people there are not there because it's convenient, they come because they actually want to be there, and I think that makes the vibe really awesome and fun! There are only two things that I don't like 1. They stop playing country at 12am so I usually leave around them 2. The DJ doesn't change the songs up too much. But, if you're into line dancing and having a fun time it really doesn't matter. They also have lessons at 7:30pm as far as I know. DONT PARK AT THE OTHER COUNTRY BAR THEY WILL TOW YOU You can park in the auto garage's lot and the Spur has their own There is a mechanical bull. So I just recently moved here to Salem from Southern California and I was looking for a place to go line dancing and saw this one. I went early to check it out and ended up being the first one so the owner was very nice about making me feel welcomed. People began to show up right before the lesson started and the instructor doing the lesson was very good as well. There is a lot of regulars that go here but they were all very welcoming to me and it made me feel very comfortable since I was alone. I am looking forward to improving my dance skills and coming back here more often. read more

Of the handful of line dancing places I've been to in TX, CA and OR, this is by far the best. There is never a shortage of line dancing songs, and people in the crowd are always helpful if you don't know how to move your feet. At midnight, the music switches and it becomes more of a regular club scene, but there are some die-hard fans that continue to line all through the night. Great find! read more

Been here a couple times, its such a fun place to go for dancing and a great place to meet up with friends. They even offer a half hour of free line dancing on certain nights! The drinks are okay and the food is terrible.. The food taste like it was taken out of a freezer and tossed in the microwave then brought out to you.. The Spur is a long time establishment in Salem. When I went there over 10 years ago, it was what I would consider a country and western bar: loud, cowboy hats, chew and boots. The music was quality and the beer cold. However, times have changed. I went to the Spur last Saturday with my boyfriend and we were both looking forward to a nice two step around the floor. It was a colossal disappointment. First, the DJ announced the line dance between every song, which dropped the enthusiasm of the dancers. Additionally, the DJ played through a whole line dance song when there were less than 10 dancers on the floor. Furthermore, there was not one two-step played. I'm just stating my observations on this particular night. Maybe it was a new DJ? I did express my concerns to the couple taking money at the door. Tonight (10/24/15) I got a message saying that there is a format where there are now partner dances being played, including two-step. Friendly and knowledgable staff! The bartenders knew their stuff and could maintain a conversation about the complexities of alcohol. There was an event going on, but even then the staff were very aware and didn't leave a customer unattended. We had a couple of drinks and then headed out to ride Black Thunder (the mechanical bull). It was fun! We didn't have to pay, but I tipped the gentleman who controlled it. Fun times! Our group favored the liquid marijuana and shots of Jameson (classic). Great little place. They have dancing and lessons throughout the month. Definitely repeat. read more

I never really go anywhere other than my 3 places around my home and never go anywhere with a cover charge, but I love the silver spur! I always have such a great time here, everyone I talk to out here just wants to have a great time and the line dancing is suuuuper fun! I like the fact that there is plenty of seating and pool is free The dancing before 12 am is cool and they have instructors and people are supportive. after 12am on the other hand they really need to work on their song selection I went there on a Friday and Saturday and it was the same song order. when the bar is jammed packed and not very many people on the dance floor there is something wrong. Also the drinks are very watered down there was no rum in my coke and no vodka in my redbull seriously and for the price what a scam Over all not a bad experience though just need better music and better drinks..or bartenders Also Please use spell check on the menu Really not trying to be rude just saying it would kick this bar up to a 4 instead of a 2 read more

This place is great for a basic dj that plays country music until roughly midnight, before more rock and roll and top 40 hits. I think having a cover is a waste. I leave the cover to places who actually have a band or live entertainment. The music is fine, but their dj is sub-par. Their food is basic, nothing special. They used to have cheap draft beer, their dollar beer is no longer. At least not the last time I was there. Dont run a tab, I cant tell you how many times I got my bill with drinks on it that I didnt order. However, if you like the country scene, as far as Salem goes, this is the spot. Music was good, food was good, decor was good, staff friendly, but EVERY single song was a line dance or structured partner dance. Not a place to go if you want to actually be able to dance. The line dancers took over the floor and no one else could get on it. I would have loved to two-step to most the songs, but the DJ kept calling out dances and the entire floor would be taken over by a structured dance. If you didn't know how to do them, you were out of luck. At midnight they "opened the floor up" for regular dancing, but absolutely no country was played. The hip-hop was great but a good DJ will mix things up. There were a lot of people left out who could not dance because they did not know all of the structured dances. There is nothing wrong with those, but we sat from 8pm-midnight waiting to be able to get on the dance floor and be able to cut loose. This is NOT advertised on their website to not come before midnight. We will not be back. read more

I have never been a huge fan of dance clubs, but a friend invited me over, so I figured why not? We went there on Saturday, so it was a little crowded, but people make the place interesting. I am not into country stuff, but I enjoyed watching other people line dance. Quite entertaining, actually. I like drinks, prices are not bad, compared to other bars. Lines might get long at a bar, but I can't really complain considering number of people were there. Make sure you don't park at the Lone Oak Tavern, they will tow your car without notice. read more
