At the meat counter, two employees spoke very courteously to my husband and me. They recommended that we purchase filet mignons, and we agreed to buy four. Next, the cashier immediately served us and spoke very nicely. The filet mignons were small, so the four together weighed slightly less than one pound. My husband said that the filet mignons contained more fat than the filet mignons that he buys from other stores. We did think that the filet mignons were tender and flavorful.

This deli is a small little local shop with a bunch of sandwich choices, lunch meats, snacks, lottery, and tons of drink options. I've been here a few times and got a different sandwich each time and loved all of them! The bread is homemade local, delivered daily and they have other local dressings and breads as well. (Like a sweet pumpkin bread that I debated buying for about 10 minutes lol) If you are in the area and looking for a quick lunch I recommend here! They have specials every day and they are usually a dollar or two cheaper than a regular menu item but equally as delicious! I only wish they had a healthy item or two (like wheat bread). I loved walking through picturesque Dormont Park. Our mother used to live near the top of McFarland Rd. so I'd often walk to Kuhn's for her and then walk back. Kuhn's is much smaller than some of the gargantuan supermarkets like the Brentwood Giant Eagle (which is now our home store) or Costco, but they have just about everything you need. Their seafood is fresh. I love their homemade specialty hoagies, so fresh and delicious. Shop 'n Save used to carry similar hoagies but stopped making them. At least the Carrick one did. Kuhn's deli is excellent. They are one of the few stores to carry the delicious Boar's Head brand deli meats. I like Giant Eagle's brand Dietz & Watson, but I prefer Boar's Head. Their aged provolone (picante - slightly sharp flavor) is wonderful. I must also mention Kuhn's ready-made fried chicken. It is my favorite out of all the various stores chicken. I have fond memories of shopping at Kuhn's. We still go there once or twice a month. Give them a try!

When I got to the register she said oh the chuck roast is on sale for 5.99. I said I didn't see a sign, she said there isn't one, you just have to bring it to the register and then we'll take it off. I said and how am I supposed to know it is on sale? she said its in circular when you walk in the door. Some come from Volant, PA, Others in Millersburg, Ohio and Walnut Creek, Ohio, and still others come from Lancaster County. Upon entering to your right is a large freezer with grass fed meats from Jersey Farm in New Wilmington, PA. In addition to ground beef you will find steaks, London broil, ribs, and a variety of roasts. Directly ahead of you is a large refrigerator consisting of cheeses made from the milk of grass fed cows. 2 pounds of slabbed rolled butter, various yogurts and a choice of pasteurized or non homogenized milk which come from Hartzler dairy farm in Wooster, Ohio. The milk is sold in half gallon sizes. In addition the refrigerator had fully baked Amish pies both small, large and sugar free. On another shelf I saw a nice selection of Amish baked goods which included your familiar cookies and chocolate gobs which resemble a chocolate cake with filling in it. One of the items pointed out to me was the cinnamon buns from Walnut Creek. I had been to Walnut Creek years ago so I know their stuff is very good. In a back room they sell mostly dry goods. Some of these goods are available upon request but you can get Amish jams, noodles, buckwheat and regular pancake mixes. Some of the items are gluten free and noted as such. I got an opportunity to speak to the owner Traci Maga and learned that their grand opening with samples is scheduled for July 11th. Every Sat however, they do offer samples of their cheeses to try. I inquired about Amish bread but learned they don't stock it anymore since it is not in much demand. They do carry Cellone's bread which is just for convenience sake along with a few other things you can find at just about any grocery chain store. They are not allowed to cut the cheeses on site so you would have to do that at home. The food is pricey however, the trade-off comes in not having to waste gas and wear and tear on your car to drive out to these places and risk spoilage on the return trip. Speaking to Traci did encourage me to try the nonhomgenized milk since it has more nutrients in it. I did purchase a couple of frozen grass fed ready made burgers which I'll make this weekend,a bag of their honey almond cereal which is very much like granola, a small apple pie and a chocolate gob. I tasted both the cereal and a little of the chocolate gob and believe me they were so good as I remember them. I'm a big fan of Amish food and I find this store a welcome addition to the Pittsburgh area. It is an easy exit off Rt 30 W just as you get off the parkway headed towards the airport. Make a right and you are there. The lot is small but plan to return and try out some of their other offerings.
