This is gonna be a long one. Its based on expense vs value. This is the second time we stayed at Casa Ohana on Siesta Key. It was great !! Our family of 10 had a tremendous experience at this rental. You are in the heart of the Village and quick walk to the beach. You have your own pool, full kitchen, elevator, family room, and a covered porch by the pool for gathering. The unit was spotless and if there is an issue, they respond immediately. Now for the expense vs value. Is the unit expensive, yes it is. But the value you get outweighs the expense. Most people reading reviews, like us are not rich. The cost when you compare renting 4 hotel rooms in this great location makes more sense. Add to that you have a full kitchen, gas grill, and washer dryer and the value starts to greatly exceed the expense. As Grand Parents having everyone together on vacation takes the value of this property off the charts. Add to that the two people we had contact with at this company, Tim and Ken were absolutely great. They could have not been more accommodating and genuinely concerned that we had a top notch experience. The value you get from this rental is way more than worth it. I would Highly recommend to anyone wanting to bond with their family on a vacation. I forgot to mention we are from Buffalo NY, and the weather here didn't suck !!! read more

We stayed at one of their properties at Anna Maria Island (The 19th Hole). We've stayed at this home 4 times now. This was our first time staying while under The Cottages on the Key management. It was even better than our previous visits. The management company checked in with us almost daily. The house was super clean and had everything we could possibly need. The pool was cleaned TWICE a week, so it was constantly clean. Love this house, but the management company made it even more enjoyable this time. Walked up with a group of five during dinner time and got a table right away on the outdoor deck. The menu looked great and I couldn't decide what to get. All the food we got was amazing. I would not recommend Cottages on the Key to anyone. I warn you from renting with them. Our time at Avanti Villa with Cottages by The Key was absolutely disastrous. First and foremost, when we booked the unit, it was under different management. It was advertised as a 4 bedroom unit. When Cottages on the Key took over, they never informed us that it was actually a 3 bedroom unit. It was still listed that way on their website until we informed them that, based on their guided tour photos, it looked like it was actually a 3 bedroom unit. They said yes, it was a 3 bedroom unit, but they would make the basement into a bedroom for us. We had 7 adults and 3 kids going on this trip, and we needed it to be 4 bedrooms. They had a unit available that would have better accommodated our family, and we were happy to pay a bit more for a bigger unit, but they were going to charge us more than it was even listed on their website to stay there. They were not accommodating to us at all. They were incredibly hard to get in touch with. They made everything way harder than it needed to be because of all the back and forth. We tried to get in touch with Heather, the CEO, because this issue was not getting resolved. We were told to stop trying to get in touch with Heather, and she would not be speaking to us. Truly horrible customer service. When we arrived, there was a small roll away cot folded up in the basement with sheets laying on top. It was not in fact set up as a bedroom. This basement had a hole in the wall open to the outside of the house that was filled with a trash bag. We had to go buy a blow up bed and sheets. It ended up not being enough room, and we had to rent another unit down the road. The most disturbing thing is that they claim to have a 35-point inspection, but I found a pill on the ground next to where my son was going to be sleeping. A quick Google search showed me that this was a lithium carbonate pill that is used to treat mania that is part of bipolar disorder. Needless to say, if my son found this pill, it would have been detrimental. My mom emailed to make sure that pack-n-plays could be set up in the closets for two of the babies to sleep in. We were told that they checked the unit, and they would be able to be set up. This was not true, the closets were small, and they did not fit. There are many other things that made this stay disappointing: - The toilet on the main floor didn't work when we arrived - The bathroom vanity in one of the bathrooms was moldy because the shower sprayed directly onto it - The hot tub cover had an ant infestation and the pool had to be treated by a few different people while we were there - Fourth floor area had trim that had fallen off and was laying on the floor - We found urine soaked paper towels under the carpet where the babies had been playing all week - We found a rat by the hot tub that was dazed and didn't run away. My husband had to exterminate it and disposed of it in a bag. We called to tell them so they could collect it. It was still sitting there when we left. No one came to get it. - The beach towels were rolled up but were soaking wet and smelled like mildew. They refunded us half of the cost of the stay, which about covered the price of the other unit (small, one bed unit) for the last 4 nights. read more

We rented this property for our family Christmas this year at a premium nightly rate . The home is attractive and clean ; however , the pool receives no direct sunlight at any time of day due to the way the house faces . This is a permanent condtion and is not disclosed in the listing or apparent in the pictures. We are a MN family and we were longing for days spent in the pool with sunshine and fun . We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the support of the Cottages staff. The Coco Bayou property is comfortable, well located, well equipped and all around fun, fun, fun! We love that it is on a quiet street, yet a short walk to Captain Curt's, Daiquiri Deck, the beach access and so much more. So nice to have the bikes, coolers, beach chairs, wagons and kayaks. Pros: All the equipment mentioned above. Beautiful open living space. Comfortable beds. The pool!!! The beach!!! Well equipped kitchen. Location, close to everything. Free trolley to take you up to the villages where there's even more. The Cottages staff responded and corrected the few issues we had IMMEDIATELY. The dolphins breaching around us in the kayaks. The CUPCAKES!!! Cons: The no-see-ums we're biting around the pool. The staff brought us 2 cans of repellent within an hour of our telling them of the problem. Noise from the businesses across the bayou. We couldn't see them, but we could hear them somewhat. We knew this going in though, so no room to complain, really. Some maintenance issues with the bikes. The staff sent maintenance out to air up the tires and oil chains within a couple of hours of our asking. We have stayed at Cottages on the Key in the past and have always had a great experience. It's difficult to write this because that was not the case with this stay. We rented both the Casita Coco and Casita Bayou at a rate that was not unsubstantial for this time of year. One of the things that attracted us to this property (aside from what is advertised) was the great location. It is close to both local stores and restaurants as well as the beach. What they don't tell you though is that the proximity to the town means loud music until about 11 each night (not great for kids) and trash dumpsters being picked up and slammed about every night between 4 and 5 in the morning. To be fair, this is not in the control of the property owners but it would be nice to know so one could make an informed decision about the property. While Casita Bayou has a nicely appointed and well-stocked kitchen, that is about as far as it goes. The photos are NOT representative of it the property. The property is tired and out of date. The outside grounds are mostly bare dirt. The backyard had lots of dog excrement in the back part by the hose control. The pool was constantly filled with falling vegetation. While we had a net to skim it off (there is no skimmer or vacuum), we had no way to get up what sunk to the bottom of the pool. The one time a pool maintenance person apparently came over they left two hoses in the pool and flooded the pool deck and surrounding area creating a muddy mess since there's nothing covering the dirt. The pool heater kept on going offline making the pool too cold for kids to go in and our need to wait for maintenance to show up - three days in a row. Inside, Casita Bayou as I said is old and tired and not very well maintained. When we arrived, we wanted to sit down that evening and watch TV. Good luck. Three remotes in each room, all mixed up. No instructions as to what goes where or what you have in terms of service. While we don't watch a ton of TV on vacation, we wanted to watch the NCAA finals. After wasting 45 minutes or so trying to figure it out, we finally called. We did find out that there really isn't TV service in these units unless we have our own streaming services. You should tell guests what they are really getting so they don't waste time. The bedrooms are located at the end runs of the A/C system so we had to leave the A/C on very cold at the thermostat to get A/C to the rooms at night because the fans in the room had only one speed - very slow. Again, old fans that don't work right. Maintenance looked at them, changed out the fan speed control switch and that didn't work (again, time wasted waiting for the maintenance folks). [By the by, I am NOT complaining about the maintenance guy - he was out several times and was GREAT to work with - we just didn't expect to spend to much time on property maintenance.] The beds are extraordinarily uncomfortable - probably because they are so old. While the general areas were clean, it's obvious that they only do surface cleaning. I dropped something that rolled under the bathroom cabinet and what I came out with was disgusting. Similar situation in Casita Coco, except worse. The rooms smell of mold and mildew. The first night, the bed was so saggy my daughter (who has had back surgery) couldn't sleep in it. The next day, they discovered that it is an inflatable bed - of course, there was no documentation about that anywhere. They firmed it up, but to no avail, because it soon sagged again. They advertised bicycles and beach carts. Yes, there are bicycles. But they are old and rusty because they are left outside. Same with the carts - full of dirt and vegetation. What was most disappointing was that we reached out asking for a manager a couple of times and they didn't bother calling us back. Very unlike Cottages on the Key..... All in all, we love Siesta Key, but this property was definitely a very low point for us and very, very disappointing. read more

We have previously rented from the Cottages on the Key (Siesta Key) at the Point of Rocks and was pleasantly pleased. HOWEVER, this last rental was full of mold, dirty, needed a complete overhaul and cleaning. Several of the window screen(s) were missing. Furthermore, the manager on duty, Jennifer, was unprofessional. She indicated over and over again that the issues would be resolved; however, failed to deliver or attempt to remedy the issues. Below is a summary of events.... Dear Jennifer, I am writing to acknowledge your email, along with providing you with a summary of the events: Saturday, 02/18/2023, we arrived at the cottage, on Siesta Drive @ 3:50. Upon arrival a gentleman was attempting to fix the front closet door. When we entered the home, it smelled foul; proceeded to walk upstairs and found several areas that were infested w/mold. Furthermore, the house was dirty! Numerous window screens were missing; the bathrooms were dirty; oven dirty, should I go on? At approximately 4:40 Mike from the cottages stopped over to inspect. He indicated the house was full of mold and required a deep cleaning. He also stated a cleaning crew would stop over and do a quick cleaning last night. He also indicated a cleaning crew would be here on Sunday, Feb 19th, at 8:00 am, for a deep cleaning. This is what we planned on. This morning, you indicated, when I spoke w/you that there was NO cleaning crew here last night. However, you stated to Laurie, that Sophie was here last night and cleaned. Which is it???? Jennifer, when I called you this morning, you indicated the crew (Rosa) would be here at 10:00 am. Subsequently, you claimed you were attempting to get a crew out here today to do a deep clean. What was the truth?? You sent Mike out here this morning, who took pictures of the carpet and mold on the beam and stated he had no tools with him to clean the carpet, etc. He stated he would be back after he picked up the carpet cleaning equipment which would take him a few hours to return because of the location of the office. We have waited for both a deep cleaning crew and Jeff to arrive to clean the carpets, but no one arrived all day. We had no idea you cancelled these services. Unfortunately, we lost the condo we found, because of your numerous promises. In order to book new accommodations, we needed to pay in full. Our money is tied up in Floritas Key, so we need a refund in order to purchase the new place. You ask how we can spend another night here....? really?? We have no choice. I will meet you at the office at 9:30 am, a refund will be placed in my hands; subsequently, I will go to the bank to confirm the check is legit. My husband and I rented this Siesta Key spot for our children and family to have a vacation. The condo was lovely. Very well decorated with beach decor and the pool area were ample and well-maintained.. The location, just across the street from the beach exit 7, would have been perfect had we been able to use the beach. Unfortunately red tide... The stench from dead fish and closed beaches prohibited us from using it. We did find many other things to do in the Sarasota area and I believe everyone had a good time. Our overall stay was disappointing. The unit itself was inconsistent with what was advertised, it has not been kept up, and finally the expectation that the house would be very clean ("35-point inspection") did not turn out to be true. Among the many issues we encountered, the most troubling was finding a Lithium Carbonate pill on the floor next to where our 3-year-old grandson was to sleep. This pill is used to treat mania that is part of bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness). Needless to say, that if our grandson had put this in his mouth we can't begin to think about what the consequences might have been. When we rented Avanti Villa, it was listed as a 4-bedroom home through another rental agency. Cottages on the Key took over as the rental agency before we arrived and changed it to a 3 BR rental but did not notify us. We needed 4 bedrooms to accommodate our family. The "bonus room" on the main level was converted from a bedroom to a game room. We discovered this inconsistency one week prior to our arrival. We were assured by the director of sales that the room would be set up as a "comfortable 4th bedroom." He said to let him know if we were not satisfied when we checked in. Upon arrival, we found the ping pong table was moved to the garage and a single cot folded up in the corner with sheets sitting on top of it. We were expecting this room to accommodate 2 people. When I attempted to call the director of sales back to express my frustration, I was told he was unavailable. Another folded up cot was sent, and no effort was made to set this up as a bedroom. We had to go to purchase a blow-up bed and sheets, but this would only accommodate one person. We were also told by the director of sales that the closets would accommodate 'pack and plays' so the babies would have their own space to sleep, however they did not. This proved to be very challenging. We ended up having to rent a room at a nearby location to accommodate our family. Prior to our arrival we learned that Cottages on the Key had another home available that would accommodate our family comfortably. They would only allow us to use that home if we paid an additional $6750 - seemingly without consideration for the fees we had already paid. We were willing to pay an additional fee to stay at the other home, but they would not compromise on the cost in order to accommodate our family. To their credit, in consideration of all we encountered, Cottages on the Key refunded half of our rental fee and the cost of the blow-up bed and sheets. There were many other problems with this rental: * The third-floor middle bathroom literally has a rotting vanity due to the shower running directly on it It also appears to have mold due to the retained moisture. * The fourth-floor area outside of elevator has trim that has fallen and is laying on the floor. * The hot tub worked intermittently (controls and temperature) and was full of ants when we arrived (we were told "you can fish them out with a net"). The pool maintenance person told us the cover needed to be replaced because that is where the ants are living. * We found urine-soaked paper towels underneath the carpet in the living room * We found a rat in front of the hot tub that appeared to be dazed (it didn't run away). We killed it and put it in a bag outside the garage. We called Cottages on the Key so that it could be taken away and not smell -- it was still there when we left on Saturday morning. * All the beach towels were rolled up and presented nicely, however, most of them were still wet. A few smelled of mildew. * Toilet on second floor had to be repaired with a new flapper, however it still did not work consistently. * The cabinets end cover on the west end of island in the kitchen repeatedly fell off. * The disposal did not work when we arrived * The water filter on the refrigerator had a red light indicating it needed to be replaced. In summary I would not recommend this rental or Cottages on the Key. read more

We stayed at The Abalone in late June. We had a great vacation. The property was very clean and had up to date furnishings with a beach theme. It was within a few minutes walk to beach access 13 (Point of Rocks). The cupcakes were a very nice touch, too. The property had beach towels and beach stuff (cart, toys/rafts/boogie boards, shell sifters, etc.). We had booked the summer of 2019 for this year and The Cottages on the Key called months in advance due to COVID to change the final payment from 60 days to 7 days in advance due to the uncertainty with vacation rentals at the time. I'm so glad we were able to make the trip. Everything was great! We'll definitely rent with The Cottages on the Key again! read more

We had a fabulous stay at 86 Island circle in siesta key last week. The home was very clean upon arrival and they had personalized cupcakes waiting for us which was a really nice touch. The place had a beach cart, beach wagon, bikes, kayaks, a grill, etc. The kitchen was also fully equipped. We had a wonderful experience and would definitely book with them again. I have been a return customer for years and always received great service. This past July something changed. i called due to an ussue in the home and spoke with a young lady who was quite nasty. They tried to fix the issue and called back but was basically called a liar. Then pool became cloudy and could not use it the last two days.. no call back, no compensation, did not care. Our house was perfect, the location was even better, but when we arrived, we saw that our washer had mold in it. They came to take care of it right away, however the cleaning was not extremely thorough throughout the washer and we still did not feel comfortable using it. With two children under two staying in the home, it left us feeling uneasy. We've stayed with Cottages On the Key in the past and will continue to do so for years to come, but we are due to stay in the same house in April 2021 and we hope the washer is either replaced or cleaned better than it was when we were there in October. Overall my brother and I were really impressed! Our cottage was nothing fancy but was very comfortable and came with everything we needed to enjoy the beach and the town of Siesta Key! We used the little pool, we rode the bikes and toted chairs down to the beach. I would have said 5 stars but our unit could have had some finishing touches taken care of (unpainted patches on the walls and tv remotes that didn't work). Just returned to PA from an amazing week on Siesta Key. We stayed at Casa Teguila and it was amazing. The welcome cupcakes and bottle of wine were a sweet touch. The condo had everything we needed for a beach vacation. The private pool was clean and very inviting. Beach chairs and beach towels were provided and plentiful for our group. The bicycles were great for some of the more adventurous in the group and when one got a flat, we called it in and it was repaired within 30 minute. Crescent Cottage is a great vacation house in Siesta Key. This is a lovely, well-equipped and well-located house that is ideal for groups of friends or families. The backyard and pool area is an intimate, private oasis. The beach furnishings (chairs, toys, etc.) are extremely helpful and available. The beds are comfortable and up-to-date. It's an easy ride to downtown Siesta Key beach bars or to Sarasota shopping and restaurants. The property management team was very helpful, friendly and responsive to the few small issues we encountered. Definitely a good pick! read more

We thought that the customer service was outstanding. We had a couple issues that were taken care of promptly. The property rental rate seemed really high for a place that had some shabby aspects such as chipped floor tile and painted over tile in the bathrooms that was also chipped. We stayed in Sophie's Cottage. I know the price varies by the week chosen and we were there the week of Easter so was probably high season but for $4000 + a week for what it was seemed high to us. read more

We stayed at Sandy Cabana in January 2022. We are big fans of the Point of Rocks area of Siesta Key for its proximity to both the beach and bars/restaurants and this is our second stay in a Cottages on the Key property. I really value the personal and friendly contact the company provides. They even have staff restaurant suggestions and pointed us to our new favorite: La Dolce Vita. Their homes are clean, well-stocked with essentials, and they had a nice surprise treat waiting for our arrival both times. read more

We stayed at 535 cottage for the second time with our family of 8. Everyone was comfortable in the four bedrooms, AC worked great, and it was outfitted with everything you needed to cook in the kitchen. The staff had the home cleaned very well when we arrived. We loved the interactive touch screen they added since our last stay. One suggestion I would make is the beach caddy and cooler, they were very old and had small wheels which did NOT do well in the sand. We saw several others with large wheels on them that are made for the sand. Also, only one umbrella, so we had to buy another and left it there for the future guests. It was our first visit to Siesta Keys, and for a family Christmas to boot, and The Champagne Villa exceeded our expectations. Spacious, well lit, a screened-in pool with views of the canal, and two blocks to Siesta Beach itself. The house was clean and accommodated all six of us easily. There were bicycles and pool toys, a beach wagon to cart our gear in, and the hospitality was memorable. We'll be back! read more

This was our first time at the Cottages. The walk to the beach was not bad but once on the beach you had to walk to the right pretty far to find an open space to set up. A lot of the accessible beach area was already claimed by other beach front property with their setups. Our unit was cute. Four bedroom three baths. One problem was when they converted the garage into two additional bedrooms to get out of one bedroom you had to walk thru another bedroom or go outside and back into the unit via the front door. That was weird. Kitchen was small but efficient. Very well decorated. Who ever did the (very expensive) cleaning before we arrived did a poor job. Left a cart with standing water so we had to deal with mosquitoes the first couple of days. We got rid of the standing water and sprayed the area. Couch was full of crumbs and old wrappers. Did not come with dish soap or extra toilet paper. We had to buy both which was not a big problem. Pool was nice. The AC in the back bedrooms did not work for four days and when it got fixed the pump leaked all over the laundry room till we put a towel over it. While a nice unit if I had to make a choice for the amount of money (not cheap, $4400.00 for the week) I would go further down the beach to like public access 10-13 and rent a house. I liked the beach access there much better. Further walk but I', not into crowds when on vacation. read more

We were lucky enough to be able to book the Sun Dial property before Christmas! It was exactly what we needed & honestly, I couldn't have asked for anything more! We were having an early Christmas, because it was the only time that one of my daughters could be here, from out of state, & it was my granddaughter's first Christmas! The house has 4 bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom, so with my 3 kids & their significant others, it was perfect! I fell in love with all of the furnishings (and went home wanting to redo my own house!) & the mattresses in all of the bedrooms will make you never want to leave! I'm told all of the houses that Cottages manages have these mattresses! The kitchen is big & well stocked with all you will need, should you decide to cook, which we did! The pool and backyard, which sits on the canal, is gorgeous & extremely well maintained! We only live a short distance away, but we sure felt like we were on vacation! I highly recommend this property & this company! Everyone I had to talk to was very professional & helpful & I never felt like I was bothering anyone with all of the questions I had when making our decision! They even recommended a place we could rent a playpen & walker for the baby! A+++ all the way around! We hope to do this again next year!! read more

Although the staff is friendly their policies are far from. We are all in a difficult time with the COVID-19 pandemic but The Cottages showed no flexibility in the handling of my reservation. One of the solutions to help me was to charge me much more. I would strongly recommend staying away from this company when you are making vacation reservations. read more

The Cottages on the Key is a wonderful resource for vacation rentals on Siesta Key. The staff is professional and friendly. They clearly take great pride in their work and in their properties. The staff goes out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. We had requested an early check in since we were traveling with small kids and they made that happen. The cupcakes in the house when we arrived got the week off to a great start, much appreciated by our five grandkids!. The welcome brunch at their office was a nice touch. Kenneth, our reservations agent, stopped by during the week with a bottle of wine, another welcome surprise. We will for sure rent with them on our next trip to Siesta Key. read more

Do not stay here. Due to COVID-19 I had to reschedule my dates and despite "rescheduling" they still do not work with you. They put a new price on the updated contract so the customer thinks that's what they'll be paying. Then they say no you still have to pay what was on your old contract (which is a $432 difference). Their reason? "These are hard times." Which I understand but why put a new price on a contract for your customers to sign. Salon who works at Cottages on the Key yells right back at you and hangs up on you. Terrible customer service. read more

I booked a 4 bedroom/3 bath condo with Jennifer at Cottages On The Key in Siesta Key, FL. Jennifer did an excellent job recommending this particular property for our group of 6 - 65 yr old high school friends reuniting for a long weekend! Our party stayed at 1036 Casa Antilles Unit L beginning 11/1/19 for 4 nights. It was perfect - very spacious, beautiful beachy decor, private pool, bikes to ride, beach chairs and more! Mikalyn did a great job checking in on us upon arrival to make sure everything was good with the unit. The unit was in walking to Crescent Beach, a great beach to find all kinds of shells! It's a very short drive to Siesta Key Beach and Siesta Key Village where all the restaurants and shops are!. All the amenities were there. There's even an elevator if you have anyone who has trouble with stairs! We loved the cupcakes they gave to us upon arrival and the bottle of wine! Just a wonderful vacation condo - we'll be back!! read more
