We had an incredibly positive experience with this kennel and can't thank them enough for their care and compassion. We were unexpectedly delayed getting back home due to a storm, and they truly went above and beyond to make sure our dogs were safe, comfortable, and well cared for the entire time. Not only did they extend their stay without hesitation, but they also kept us updated, which gave us so much peace of mind during a stressful situation. It's clear that they genuinely care about the animals they look after. When we finally returned, our dogs were happy, relaxed, and clearly had been treated with kindness and attention. We've boarded our German Shepherd here several times and have always been pleased with the care she receives here. The various employees are all knowledgeable and genuinely love animals. They have a large dog area, a smaller dog area, and even a cat room. For additional fees, your dog can have extra long walks, snuggle sessions, etc. They don't do a traditional doggie day care, where the dogs are all romping around all day long, but if you need overnight boarding or even daytime care, this is the place to go. I have been taking my dogs there for 5 years. Prior to that my dogs had never been in a kennel Now my dog Coco is almost 18 years old. She is always hesitant to go in and I hate to have to leave but I feel so comfortable with her at Silver Trails. I know she is in good hands. I would NEVER leave an animal here. The place is disgustingly dirty. Try going in the winter and see how cold it is where they keep the animals. The thermostat is set at 56 degrees. The animals are not properly cared for in that once they are put in their cages there they stay with not much human contact at all - especially the cats. And speaking of cats, their tiny litter boxes are not cleaned as often as they should be - which for that size should be at least twice a day. The present owners are not fair and honest with their employees either. The tips that are left do not go to the employees. If you feel you must leave your pet here, please take an unannounced tour of the whole place in the morning hours - like when they first open. But beware, you might want to cancel your travel plans and stay home with your beloved pet instead. read more

Not impressed. The place absolutely reeks even through a mask so it's obviously not cleaned very well. My cat is diabetic and they had the incorrect dosage of insulin on their computer system even though I went through it with them at least 5 times, had it written on the insulin bottle and also on his bag of things. I have no idea what dosage they actually gave him and neither did they. I also included EXACTLY the amount of syringes and food needed for my cats stay. He came home with extras of everything meaning he missed meals and most importantly insulin dosages. I also requested an indoor/outdoor cage and when I picked him up he wasn't in that type of cage. He is a very gentle, friendly cat to every stranger and was hissing at the girl trying to get him in his carrier. I had to intervene. Who knows how he was actually being treated. I will never trust this facility again. read more

Silver Trails was so wonderful and took such great care of our dogs when we were away and got Covid and could not get home. To begin with Nick moved things around to fit them in when we had to go away with little notice. I was indebted to them then but when we both took I'll I was beside myself about the dogs. When I first moved to CT I had to board my dogs for the first time in their lives. I have A Shepard and pit/lab mix named Cookie and Sandy. I tried a few places first before this one, to say I have been happy with the service here is an understatement. My girls have been going here now for 2 years, the staff knows them and they are always happy to see them. This isn't a dog bed and breakfast but for the price my dogs are well looked after, excited to arrive and conditions are always good. This is a huge facility so with the exception of holidays I have never had them book up completely on me. Compared to the other places I have tried the hours here are most accommodating. Very thankful to have this place so close to my home, they always take care of my best friends just like I would. read more

I brought my 14 year old small dog who has CHF and is on medication here for 2 nights. On my way to pick him up I received a call telling me that they had found him tangled in his blanket. They stated it was so tight they had to cut it off him. When I arrived he was barely putting weight on one of his hind legs. Oddly enough they handed me his blanket which was completely intact. I brought him home and discovered he had 2 fractures in his tail. Due to his age and medical issue he could not undergo surgery to fix his tail. His tail which normally curls over his back now hangs limply. Not to mention the pain and stress that he has suffered. I understand accidents happen but I believe they were not being honest about what happened. read more

I have a summer place nearby and this was a wonderful find especially for weekends when we are crowded with guests and it is much too disorienting for older dog...Soupy was very happy there. Our dog has been coming to the kennel at least twice a year for the past four years and I have never been more disappointed with there service then our last visit. Our dog was properly vaccinated with everything required and she still got very sick with Kennel Cough!! It proves to show that there facilities are not clean whatsoever and the strain must have been very strong to still have infected her after getting the vaccine. Although the lady at the front was nice she was over chatty and I feel like they don't care for dogs as much as they make it seem like. We will never use them again, we will now bring our business to Larkins Run in Durham! read more

Took my dog here a few times for day care and while the place was somewhat run down, he seemed to do OK. Left him for a long weekend and it was a nightmare. Dog was dirty and smelled of urine when we got him in the car. Had kennel cough and a bad case if diarrhea, too. If that wasn't enough, they groomed him and cut his foot in the process. I arranged a tour before our boarding visit and was shown all areas of the kennel -- the kennels themselves, which were clean and well attended, the play areas and walking trail. The staff was friendly and helpful and answered all of my questions. There were no extra charges for administering my dog's Rx's. I felt their rates were very reasonable and I was allowed to bring bedding, snacks, toys and our own food. My pet returned smelling clean. I would use their services again. read more

I love my dog. I know, I know--everyone does, but I REALLY love mine, and feel tremendous guilt when we have to board him. Silver Trails is just about as clean as a kennel with approximately 2362466777 dogs boarded could possibly be. The people are nice and I never get the feeling they're beating him while we're gone. I know that even if you don't pay for it, if you're not a jerk, they'll take your dog out for walks so that s/he isn't sitting in the run 24/7. They're also very reasonable! read more

When I picked up my dog after his stay, he was limping, smelly and filthy. They returned his bed soiled and unwashed. When I asked what happened to his paw, they said the owner or another staff member would call me. It's been a week... nothing. I will never trust them with any of my pets again. read more

Although this place was very clean, I still felt I needed to give 2 stars only. For starters, when I called to make a reservation for my dog, I mentioned to the woman on the phone that I was happy they would be in an air conditioned environment. (it states on the website "climate controlled") Upon arriving I was quickly told that only a portion of the kennels are air conditioned, and they book up really quick and sorry but my dogs were in the non-AC area. I was NOT told anything about this on the phone when I called to make a reservation, other than "they will love it here it's nice and cool". Also, I was told large fans are always running in the summer and classical music is ALWAYS playing to relax the dogs. Well, we dropped our dogs off on a very hot and humid day, and the woman working that day only turned the fans on when we arrived! And no music playing. That wouldn't have annoyed me so much if I wasn't told these things were benefits of this kennel. When we picked the dogs up after a week, they were in OK shape however seemed a bit dehydrated. Also, staff that I dealt with was kind of apathetic. Can't say I recommend Sliver Trails during the summer months--it's gets too hot in the non AC area (especially when the fans are OFF like they were when we dropped off and picked up!) read more

I think this place is ok. but that is it...just ok. I also go the sense that the staff was apathetic, just as earlier review had written. And since we cherish our doggy, that was off putting.
