I think someone stated this and I agree: I think most people who rate this place five and four stars might be canyon residents. This place is subpar at best. Food is sub-standard. If one is starving, it will do. It's not fair to people who read the average rating is a four star for this place, and drive from a ways away, when it's only a one-and-a-half star. Since moving to the canyons, my husband and I really enjoyed getting breakfast at this cute little place. Really sad we can't dine in anymore, but their takeout is still available. Support them if you can! The pancakes are delicious, and their biscuits and gravy are to die for. read more

Decided to take an adventure and head out to the canyons in Orange County. We always knew this place existed but didn't know much else. We were a little hesitant at first since they don't have a website with a menu and pricing, and they only take cash (not alot of ATMs in this area either.) Very small inside. Maybe 10 booths, 5 tables and a small counter. No air conditioning. We were greeted by a friendly girl (who is also the server) and said to sit anywhere we wanted. Half the menu was Mexican food and the other half was traditional Gringo cafe food. Prices were very reasonable. I got the carnitas plate which came with rice, beans, tortillas, and a large portion of pork. Very tasty. Only improvement would have been to serve with guacamole which I understand they only have on Taco Tuesday. My wife had the combo plate with a carnitas taco and cheese enchilada. Looked good and she was very happy. Total for two meals, soda and two beers... $27. Not bad for the OC. Going back next time for breakfast. read more

Have been going here for years and years since my sister lives about 4 houses away from it. I was at her home for New Years and on New Years day my nephews and their friends decided to hit the place up at around 11 am. We had 9 people and walked in to find that the another big group had already taken all the tables. Only 2 booths were left and they were not big enough for our party. I had to sit alone at the bar. I really wish this place would expand a little... put in a back porch/patio outside. Outside tables would be nice and something in the back wouldnt block your entrance or parking. The view of the creek might please some people as well. Anyways, on to the staff and food. The crew was working hard to keep up as it was very crowded, people standing and waiting inside and outside. I didnt hear if they had a wait list, it seemed to be a free for all on who got what. I really didnt appreciate the loud mouthed lady that was standing behind me for my entire meal whining about how they just needed one more seat to sit her party of 3 at the bar. I ordered the chile verde omelet and a half order of biscuits and gravy. There are two things you can put on a menu and I will try them no matter what in hopes of hitting the jackpot and finding a new go-to place for them. One is Clam Chowder and the other is Biscuits and Gravy. I was sold on the B&G when I saw it had chunks of meat in it... YES! I love it when they put scraps in the gravy. I also ordered a coke which they refilled (I think its free refills, I didnt check my tab). My plates were brought to the big table with all the weekend warrior cyclists that haunt this place and then finally over to me. Even tho the omelet was only a 2 egg omelet, it was fairly big with the chile verde in it. The chile verde was DIVINE! The meat was so soft and tender and was in huge chunks both inside and on top of the omelet. The green tomatillo sauce was just right, not too spicy (which I wouldnt have minded) and not too acidic. The plate also had a big side of home fries (sliced up potatoes fried to crisp on the top and bottom. The green sauce got mopped up with the potatoes! The biscuits and gravy came with 2 halves of a home made biscuit covered in gravy with a side of the home fries. The biscuit was a little dense, but the country gravy more than made up for that. The big surprise was the chunks of meat in it were CORNED BEEF! Hell yeah! I loved that little twist and was pleasantly shocked that it wasnt sausage. Once again, the potatoes were used to mop up all the gravy. The damage was this big meal was just over $17. They recently started taking debit/credit cards so that was also a nice change to the old policy of cash only. The waiters and hostess did a find job and it lifted my spirits for the rest of the day. I feel a little bad giving this place 3 stars......but.....well....I guess that's the best part about Yelp.......you can be completely honest. No punishment for honesty. The location is pretty neat.....this place is located in a relatively remote area of Orange County. If you've never been to Silverado, CA, it's almost hard to believe this place exists in places like Orange County. It almost feels like you're in a different state. The decor and the food here is ......OK. I wouldn't drive 1.5 hours from my home to get here, but, if I were in the area and hungry, I might drop by to grab a bite to eat. It sure seems like a lot of people in here know each other, which is pretty cool. It's kind of your standard breakfast and lunch place where everyone knows each other (Silverado is quite small). If you're in the mood for a little morning or even day trip out to the Santa Ana Mountains and are hungry for some food, this is a good stop. read more

Don't get me wrong, the service is not fast, but it's the perfect place to go relax, put your phone down (there's very poor cell service in that area anyway), and enjoy an awesome, leisurely meal in a unique atmosphere - like a trip back in time to a simpler world. We've been coming here quite often. The last couple times, we've been disappointed with the service. Today especially we had a new server. She wasn't as polite as the other servers we've had. When our food was ready, she brought it but we had no silverware, napkins or extra plate (which we let her know before hand, we we're splitting). We had to ask for these in order to eat. She never once came back to check on us, offer us refills and never even brought our check to us when we finished. I had to bring my drink to the front counter to ask for a refill, the same thing with our check. The other sever would clean the tables and just wipe the food crumbs on the floor. After a long and confusing hike, we stumbled upon this cafe after seeing a sign on the road before entering into the park. The restaurant is a few miles away from the hiking grounds, so you definitely feel like you're no longer in the OC! It's nestled in a small town that makes you feel like you're either a frequent eater or a visitor from out of town because you will either stand out of fit in. Everyone seems to know one another and seems to be the place to be on a weekly basis. The cafe is very small with a few tables along the walls and a counter just like the old cafe setting you see at the movies. Tons of antique pictures and paintings along the wall so it's a little bit like home with a vintage theme. We ordered the steak and eggs, but it wasn't what I had thought. The steak was grilled so you could definitely taste the burnt grill on the meat and the eggs were a little raw towards the middle. The burrito and enchilada wasn't that exciting either. Amazing spot. Whether you're visiting the area, biking or doing some hiking, this place is a must. Food is delicious and definitely tastes like homemade. It can get busy so be patient. The icing on the cake is that the prices won't send you running :) However, please be aware that this is a small diner, and they ONLY take cash. If for any reason you don't have cash when you show up, there is a small market across the parking lot with an ATM. This cafe is located in Silverado, CA. ...which most locals simply refer to as Silverado Canyon. It's a small old school diner, with all of that old school diner charm. If you're a fan of that diner charm (like me), then this little gem tucked away in Silverado is more than worth the drive! A couple of other small notes. They don't have WiFi here, but if you're on the Sprint network, you'll get 4 out of 5 bars of LTE service here. Nearly as fast as your own WiFi! Go back in time and make the trek out there for some good comfort food. We did a breakfast there a few weeks back on a random Tuesday morning and were very satisfied. Interesting cast of characters there, all very nice, a few having some early beers at the small bar/counter seats. We will definitely be going back to sample some more, was told by one of the regulars that the Huevos Rancheros is the best in OC. Ambiance - Pleasant and typical small country cafe, nice drive away from all the insanity of the city. Food - Not spectacular but very good Service - Excellent Value - Excellent, good prices If all you are used to are corporate chain restaurants this place is a shining star. I dislike chain everything and always strive to support the independent business' so compared to a Denny's this is a five star experience, compared to a like type business in a rural setting it earns three stars. Nothing negative but there is always room for improvement. Sometimes a small out of the way place like this you are made to feel like you are intruding, that is not the case here. My daughter had the short stack and sausage, way to much for her but she did her best. My son who is not a breakfast person, had a hamburger and finished it off. It's a small place and don't expect frills. Food was good, service was attentive even as they got busier. Just came here for the first time last Friday. Love it! Lots of charm & character. Super friendly wait staff. This is definitely a locals place. The bf and I stopped in because we were in the area. A co-worker of the bf's, who lives in the canyon, happened to stop by for lunch and ended up joining us for our meal. With him, I definitely got to see how tight this community is. Everyone knew each other and people were participating in each others' conversantions. It was a great feeling to see that this type of community still exists...such a rarity in So Cal. Service: Friendly. Down-to-earth. Perfect for the type of place that it is. Food: The bf and I were both feeling breakfast-y so each both got 2 eggs/bacon plates. Comes with potatoes and toast. They actually give you 3 bacon slices which is nice treat. The eggs are perfectly cooked to how you want. Potatoes are delish. Some of the best I've had in a while. They are nicely crisp on the outside. The coffee was surprisingly flavorful for diner-type coffee. The bf's co-worker got a cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. His food looked awesome. The patty appeared to be hand shaped indicated it wasn't from a batch of frozen, machine packed hamburger patties. The co-worker says that Felix, the owner, does a great job of buying high quality, fresh meats. I will definitely be trying out a burger the next time. This place is yummy! Wife and I visited this place on a Saturday morning on a whim. We live nearby and wanted to discover a new breakfast and brunch spot for the family. It's out where you lose the normal hustle and bustle feeling of everyday city life but close enough to take the kids without whining about how much longer it will take to get to the destination. The restaurant itself can easily be missed as you are on the beautiful canyon drive. Here's a tip, it's directly across the street from the United States Post Office. The outside reminds me of an old rustic saloon. The interior reminds me of the same with grandma's living room mixed in. Like other reviewers have stated it does have a locals vibe and staff were friendly. The food was delicious. Has that home cooked feeling and feels like it didn't come directly out from a freezer bag or preprocessed at a factory. Wife ordered the French Toast combo that she absolutely loved. I ordered the Lumberjack combo that I too really enjoyed. The coffee was so so but they did refill it quite frequently. The bathrooms were very basic and clean. Don't expect a multi stall bathroom with hand dryers and huge mirrors. Think a small bathroom in an old house that your grandmother might have will be more appropriate.
