I've been going to Simi Valley Dermatological medical Center since April and unfortunately for me I was diagnosed with Melanoma. Dr. Hinshaw, Maggie and the complete staff are very friendly and helpful in getting me through all the biopsies and surgeries. What I love the most about Dr. Hinshaw is that he doesn't waste time getting down to what needs to be done. My very first visit he did biopsies, most clinics make you come back for another visit for any procedure. After 5 months of biopsies and surgeries today was my 1st check up moving forward and once again on the same visit Dr. Hinshaw proceeded with 3 more biopsies that were questionable and with my history of Melanoma he did it on the same day of my 1st follow up visit. Everyone in the office is very friendly and very helpful. Maggie the doctors assistant is an absolute doll who helps make everything go perfect. I am very lucky I went when I did however I'm even luckier to have found Simi Dermatological Medical Center. DO NOT BOOK APPTS HERE!!!! THEY CHARGE FEES WITHOUT TELLING YOU THEY EXIST. Booked an emergency appt by phone with Erica, with only 13 hours between appt booking and appt. Ended up having to see a doctor sooner due to emergency. Called to cancel and they're telling me there's a $75 cancelation fee for not canceling with 24 hour notice. 1st. I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT THIS CANCELLATION FEE. 2nd THE APPT WAS BOOKED IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS, SO HOW COULD I GUVE 24 HOUR NOTICE. I saw Dr. Hinshaw today and was very pleased with his professional diagnoseses and procedures that he was able to give to me today! Today was a day of general tag removal that comes with age. However, Dr. Hinshaw has performed a surgical cancer removal for me a few years ago. Dr. Hinshaw is so kind and personable. I highly recommend him! I really don't like going to any doctor but Clayton is not just a doctor.He makes you feel at home.My wife made me go in because I work in the sun a lot and had a few areas of concern.So I went in and he checked my whole body and found a few that needed work.He scheduled them and each one maybe waited 5 minutes each time.Very impressed. But very concerned not to have you in any pain.Mine we're pretty big basil skin cancer and he solved all my problems.I would never go anywhere else. But his staff will blow you away Taylor at the front desk is as professional as they get.And Maggie his assistant is so comforting and makes the whole experience so much better.Little or small I recommend them 100% Sounds kind of stupid I've had about 6 appointments but I find myself looking for other spots so I can see them again.Granted I'm not crazy but know good people when I meet them. read more

Dr. Hinshaw is an awesome doctor, I saw him a few years ago and recently scheduled an appointment to try to see him again. Unfortunately, his office staff are notably rude, both on the phone and in the office, and I've spoken with other patients in passing and they've had the same experience with his staff. I eventually went to find another dermatologist since they are essentially the gatekeepers to seeing Dr. Hinshaw. Super unfortunate because Dr. Hinshaw is the best dermatologist I've seen to date. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Hinshaw's at this office for about 15 years, maybe longer. Let me make one thing clear off the bat - I don't have a problem with Dr. Hinshaw. He has been a good and kind doctor to me and my family. I can always rely on him if I want more information or to explain a medical procedure to me when I don't understand it. He knows what he's talking about and often goes above and beyond for his patients. I have interacted with the other doctors in the office too and they are good people. The reason for one star, and the reason why I will not be returning to this office after 15+ years of being a patient, is because of April. She is the "office manager" yet is one of the most incompetent, unhelpful, rude, deceitful, unprofessional people I have ever had the displeasure to interact with. She lied to my insurance, she lied to me, and she lied to my doctor. Even my insurance didn't want to talk to her. I'm also confident that she doesn't understand HIPAA. If they ever wise up and fire April, you should definitely go here. Until then, I would stay far away. read more

Simi Dermatologic Medical Center and Dr. Hinshaw have been our family's choice for care for as long as I can remember. My husband I both see him, and all four of our sons were patients at one time or another. Without fail, Dr. Hinshaw is the best - kind, attentive, always giving me confidence with whatever concern has presented. With regards to office staff, I've recently interacted with Maggie and Taylor and they are both lovely. They have gone out of their way to be helpful more than once. Sometimes the office in Tarzana will handle phone calls, so I have to think that may be where any office complaints come from. The team in Simi Valley is wonderful! read more

Dr. Hinshaw is amazing. My son went there several years on and off with skin problems. He said Dr. Hinshaw is the only doctor he feels comfortable with. I just took my 17 year old son there, and we were both amazed at how kind Dr. Hinshaw is and how he quickly does whatever needs to be done. Mostly went for a bump on my head that developed during my last pregnancy, but he did a full body check and we found a very dark and irregular mole he wanted removed immediately. Dr. wanted to make separate appointments for three tiny things he needed to cut off. When I pressed him as to why, he let slip that he gets paid more when they're all separate appointments, instead of doing them all in one. Meanwhile, I would be caring for wounds for a month instead of a week. He also failed to diagnose a staph condition on my nose, which my regular doctor caught & cured. Nice guy, sure, but don't think I'll be going back either. read more

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Clayton Hinshaw's for years. While we have always been very pleased with his conscientious care, never before has it been tested as it was very recently. Most recently, my husband has had two surgical procedures. He commented at the lack of discomfort and commented to me that Dr. Hinshaw has a very gentle touch. He is methodical, kind, reassuring and there is never a sense of being rushed, even at the most routine, mundane appointments. (Semi) Succinctly, the story goes like this. Following a procedure in the morning, at 11:30 that night, I noticed bleeding that didn't seem right. I placed a call to his exchange. After explaining the situation briefly to the answering service person, I was connected with Dr. Hinshaw himself. After a brief rundown, Dr. Hinshaw told me that he would meet us at his office in 45 minutes. This was not a short distance for him and it was after midnight when we met up!! No need to go through the procedure. Suffice it to say that he left his home well into the night, drove well over a half hour to his Tarzana office and proved to his two very impressed and deeply appreciative patients just what kind of medical provider he is: Totally committed to quality care and the comfort and cure for his patients. Most especially in the state of health care as it is today, Dr. Hinshaw is a ROCK STAR, an anomaly in the circle of medical providers, a rare breed, in the company of a select few and most of those decades older than he is! In his profession, he is a throwback to a simpler and more conscientious time. 5-stars doesn't begin to measure his competence and compassion and what he did for us that night. With offices in Santa Monica, Simi Valley and Tarzana, there is an accessible location for most! Yasmin at the front desk was incredibly nice and helpful and Dr. Hinshaw himself was very personable, professional, and easy to understand. The girls in the office especially April are rude and disrespectful. Stay clear from this office. I seen Dr. Henshaw over a year ago with a growth on my head he looked at it and said don't worry about it. It has become larger and more have popped up in the same area with an area of pain. They refuse to recheck me due to his lack of knowledge knowing if he was wrong that would cause a problem for him. If I have skin cancer as as he said not to worry that will be pretty bad on his part. My boyfriend was with me during this visit so the Doctor can't deny what he told me. Started seeing Dr. Hinshaw last year after my puppy bit my lip which required stitches. He has been wonderful in treating and doing follow-up cortizone treatment for the scar tissue until not necessary. Was very impressed with the fact he was thorough yet honest if further treatment needed to be done. Also was impressed that he was responsive to other needs such as removing brown spots and was able to do so the day I went in for a follow-up for something else. The brown spots are finally gone thanks to him and I no longer need to feel like I need to be hiding my face like I have felt like doing for the last 10 years. He had a very kind and gentle mannerism which made the experience more relaxing. April and the other nurses on staff were very caring and responsive and were able to get me in very promptly if I needed to make an appointment even if it was at the last minute. read more

Dr. Hinshaw has been accurately diagnosing & effectively treating our family's skin for various conditions. He even squeezed my teen-age son in for a last minute app on a Friday afternoon at 4:45 to treat poison oak which was spreading rapidly all over his body! I'm not going back- went in for skin diagnosis November 2014. I came in with what was determined to be eczema. This Derm recommended a stronger topical to treat it. Unfortunately the major fail for me was the last time I saw him while going over the continued lack of improvement he failed to notice/treat the obvious staph condition. Saw him on a Friday and given a shot for my itching and scheduled follow up in two seeks. Also had an appointment with a Thousand Oaks Allergist four days later who was seeing me for the first time to get at what I could be allergic to. She did her workup and saw it and right away prescribed an antibiotic. When she asked me how long had I had this aspect of the condition I let her know (pretty much from the beginning) and she let me know how serious staph is and as a result am no longer going back. I depend on doctors to treat not only what I'm going there for but any other aspects that I may not be aware of and this doctor is one I can no longer trust as a result. read more

My husband and I have both been going to Dr. Hinshaw for a couple of years. We were not happy with our prior dermatologist and started traveling to Burbank for a dermatologist recommended by a friend. We were very happy with that doctor but wanted to find someone closer to our home. I just randomly picked Dr. Hinshaw to try from among all the dermatologists listed in Simi Valley. He is an outstanding dermatologist! We go for yearly skin checks. On my last visit, he was concerned about a spot on my leg that really did not look suspicious to me. It turned out to be pre-cancerous, which was the first time I had any such finding in the ten years I have been going for checks. Dr. Hinshaw believes in preventative care and the importance of yearly checks for potential skin cancer. He is very kind in his approach, professional and provides patients with quality care.
