This is such a cute spot for a goat walk in the winter time. You will likely freeze your butt off, so I recommend dressing very warm and wearing shoes that you do not mind getting dirty because you WILL step in goat poop. I have now been on two goat walks here, and I would say it it is probably different every time. I feel like most people are only there to hang out with some goats and if that is your goal, you might get bored of all of the informative talking that occurs on the trip. read more

Do you have kids that like animals? Then you definitely should visit Simmons Farm! We went for the Goat walk but eft feeling very fulfilled by supporting a local farm. I heard about Simmons Farm through a friends visit. It was school vacation week and I had my heart set on getting to CT and walking a llama with my daughter but... I couldn't get them to pick up the phone. So I went on Simmons website and easily booked a walk for 3 with one baby goat. Little did I know our consolation prize would have given me such a nice memory. We arrived at Simmons farm and parking was tight. Everyone was entranced by feeding the animals. Its an honor system- so bring some one's if you want to participate in the feeding zoo aspect of the farm. If you have signed up for the goat walk- just wait. They will meet you in the parking lot and call everyone together. After a small talk, you are asked to approach the goats and see which goat 'calls out to you.' My daughter was the first one to get to the goats and she was really into a small brown one, Pippa. We were able to spend a few minutes saying hi and then we started our way. At our first stop our guide, one of the owners, told everyone their goats name and a little about the goat. The walk is very easy with multiple stops. The walk takes you to multiple areas throughout the farm. Each new area you stop. At each stop we learnt about things such as goats, pigs and the history of the farm or was given feed for your goat. The owner was really informative. The farm is beautiful and the view along the water- I wasn't expecting it! Well worth just going for a walk! If you are afraid you cant handle a goat or have a small child- let me tell you we were told multiple times that goats are herd animals. A few people dropped their leashes but the goats stick together. The owner wasn't worried at all. A really positive experience. The owner was very thankful for us attending the walk and supporting the farm- really gave me a warm feeling supporting the. I bought a reusable bag in their little store and a spice for pizza. The girl working was really nice- talking up a storm with my daughter. Overall the kids had a blast and I really enjoyed myself. I would HIGHLY suggest supporting this farm and making a family memory. read more

Cute little farm. Came for a 1.5 hour goat hike-today the 90 degree day in April. Opted for a regular goat when I made my reservation-i would definitely opt for a baby or mini next time. They have a mind of their owns that's for sure. They pull and stop and you walk in a lot of poop so don't where any sneakers you want to keep.....It was a little disorganized at first and waited a long time to finally get going. All in all it was fun. Families with children-heed the warnings and just get one goat- the people with kids seemed to be struggling even more than me-lol. They give you lemonade after. Free parking, porta john-small farm stand inside. You can just go and feed the goats and see the other farm animals if you aren't up for the hike. read more

This place has been a lifesaver during the pandemic. Not only do they have amazing farm fresh (literally) offerings for pickup or delivery, they also have COVID safe activities for my kids! Hallelujah. Petting farm: Anytime, you can drive here and feed the goats, pet the cow, maybe a pig or two if you're brave. There's a box to pay for feed and it's self serve. My little one enjoys this SO much, and it's all outside. They even have a hand washing station outside. Goat hike - with baby goats! This was so fun, we did it twice. Once with a regular adult goat on a leash (wouldn't recommend if you have little little ones as the goats like to pull and my toddler couldn't keep up) and once with a baby goat that you hold. I highly recommend the baby goat hike! They are so freaking cute and cuddly and warm. It's like therapy and exercise all at the same time. And who doesn't need that now. The hike is really easy physically, and you get to learn about the farm and see other animals. My toddler loved the hike with the baby goat, especially the hot chocolate at the end made with milk from the cows on the farm. It was DELICIOUS. Baby goat cuddle: If you're lucky enough to be in Newport when the baby goats arrive, this is the cutest, sweetest activity. I've done it 3 times with my toddler and have never been disappointed. You get to go into their barn (huge open doors on one end for air flow, plus masks required, so super safe) and you're surrounded by baby goats! My toddler was so so excited. The Simmon's Farm petting zoo seriously brought happiness to my soul. the goats were so adorable and excited to see you even when you didn't have food. I was bummed they had a double fence between people and the goats. you can feed the goats pellets from the shop on the property for $1.00 a cone cup. What an ABSOLUTE MEMORABLE and amazing experience. So glad I randomly found this on Eventbrite and got a ticket to do the Goat Hike. The owner was incredible. She was an excellent and insightful tour guide. It felt good supporting her family farm while truly having a unique experience. My goats name was Hazel, I would call her Frank because she was being feisty (and also I didn't realize her name when I instantly named her lol). She was a sassy one, but it's because she's pregnant so who could blame her - the girl just wanted to eat and almost had me eating dirt with her wild ways, that's okay I still loved her haha. I highly recommend this goat tour, it's fun for everyone. The goats are strong so be mindful of that when booking for kids - there a hike only ticket and you can still walk along the goats. Also, be prepared and wear hiking boots for the terrain, the combo of the strength of the goats and rocky ground will tear up your feet otherwise. Very fun, educational and entertaining experience. The piglets were a fun bonus- they were reckless little goons too. I would do this again if I was in town! read more

Simmons Farm has a great store with nice products. But this review is about the goat hike. You and a herd of humans and young goats walk the perimeter of the stunning farm. This is oddly therapeutic. Everyone in the herd was visibly happy and relaxed. I think this is the best day I have had in a long, long time. Recommended for kids, obviously, but most of the people in my herd were couples having a date day. The hike leader, Karla, is very nice and patient. And she knows her goats and her farm. read more

My boyfriend and I attended the cheese making class offered by the owner of the farm. The cost was $99 per ticket which, for everything it stated was included, seemed like a good deal for the 3 hour class that was my gift to him. Unfortunately, the class didn't really go as expected. The instructor (who also owns the farm) needed a moment to use the bathroom before the class was to begin so she led us to the baby goat pen. Of course this was WONDERFUL and we, along with the other 4 students, loved getting to pet and hold the babies...but, 45min later that's what we were still doing. It's easy to let time get away from you when you're cuddling with adorable little furry creatures as our teacher kept joyfully handing them to us. After 45-50min or so, we moved to the kitchen area to begin the actual class. However, we were told that since we took so much time with the goats, we were not going to have time for the first part of the cheese class - making the actual cheese curds. As the teacher, it was really up to HER to have the timing for the class laid out - to keep things on track. As the teacher, she should have said to us "So, the baby goats are great - and we can stay here if you want - BUT you need to know that if we spend more time here we will lose out on part of the class." Had she said that, we of course would have said "Got it! Let's go make cheese." She is the one running the class after all... So unbeknownst to us, visiting with the goats meant losing out on the first part of the class. At this point, we were to make butter. It was interesting and the butter tasted SO good. She demonstrated her preferred technique which was done using a Vitamix. She did explain that if you're not careful, you can accidentally heat it up... We tried making more butter at home and did just that. Whoops... I do wish we learned a more fool-proof way to make it. The next part of the "class" was to enjoy some selections of cheese and beverages while we sat around a table in their small gift shop area and we all "got to know" one another. For OVER an HOUR we sat there and round-robin talked about ourselves. Cool, but that's not cheese making. Finally, after dropping some subtle hints about the time (it was a very nice group filled with very nice people - none of whom wanted to rock the boat...) we went back to the kitchen area with only about 15minutes left of the actual class. We had done nothing yet with actual cheese making! She showed us the curds she had made previously.... and we took turns melting and stretching them into balls of mozzarella to take home... it was delicious, for sure, as was the butter - we can't deny that. But here's the thing: for $99 per person, we didn't learn the cheese making process as it was advertised. Based on their website, each paying student (ie. each ticket fee) was supposed to leave with a 1/4lb of butter. This wasn't the case. My boyfriend and I were given (1) 1/4lb of butter to share... the other couple that was there was given the same - butter to share - simply because they share a household. But that $99 ticket price wasn't shared and the value should be the same across all students. Their website also states that we were going to be given gift bags "containing a kit for you to make more mozzarella at home and a Simmons Farm tote bag." - what we received was a paper shopping bag with some candy inside. Additionally, the environment didn't seem particularly sanitary if I'm going to be quite honest and we were almost encouraged to be messier than was AT ALL needed by letting the cheese juice (for lack of a better word lol) drip and splash all over the floor - simply because there happened to be a floor drain. Sure there's a floor drain, that's great, but there's also a HUGE sink and we could be letting the liquids spill into there, couldn't we?? But now we're all STEPPING in cheese juice that was simply everywhere... with a small dog grabbing up any bits of cheese that fell on the floor - and all in a pretty small room for the amount of people. At one point, I asked the teacher "Is there a reason we can't just do this over the sink and make less of a mess for us to step in?" and she seemed to think that was simply unnecessary due to the convenience of the floor drain... but...but... OK. *shrug* Ultimately, I think she has good intentions and I get the sense that she's a good person - a fun and wild right-brained Creative who loves her farm and her goats and lives to share them with the community... But fabulous creative leanings also need good business practices, too. read more

Had a ball with the goat yoga. I really wouldn't call me the yoga type, but I am a goat person. The baby goats were so much fun and there were enough goats to go around! The price of the yoga was $20 and the location that you practice yoga in was absolutely gorgeous. You do take a hike up a hill to the back of the farm but it overlooks the water. If you do the goat yoga be prepared that they may urinate or defecate on your mat so I recommend bringing wipes. I was one of the lucky ones. Everyone that ran the yoga was so nice, including the owner. read more

I had purchased baby goat snuggling tickets for my mother who is wheelchair bound and in active treatment for breast cancer. The tickets were for 1pm on mothers day and we running behind, almost an hour. I was so stressed and nervous about missing our session because the next three were sold out. Before I took my mother out of the car I went up to the owner and explained that we were late and he calmly said that okay we're real relaxed here! I can't tell you how much that meant to us. He even proceeded to help roll my moms wheelchair into the goat area. We we're able to stay the whole hour and not feel rushed. It was the best Mother's Day gift I could have ever given my mom. On our way out a family friend had offered to help wheel my moms chair back to the car. The whole visit was a 10/10! read more

Be a little extra careful when you're dealing with Simmon's Farm. We visited the farm and they were very pleasant I love the animals and was planning on coming back with the full family to enjoy the animals. I subscribed to their website and really enjoyed the updated photos of the animals. One day a comment was made pertaining to our president with the F bomb. So much for a family friendly farm. There is a chance we might give them a second try but I highly doubt it. I understand this is America and they can use any language they want but I refuse to bring my family around individuals that use the F word pertaining to our president. read more

I celebrated my birthday by walking a baby goat through Simmons farm. It was probably one of the best days I've ever had. The goats were adorable, the piglets, and the cows were very adorable and loved interacting with people. I stayed for hours after the goat hike just to feed and pet the goats and pigs. VERY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE!! Simmons Farm was recommended to me by someone who had been there and enjoyed their experience. I wanted to purchase a gift certificate for a family member to use for a goat hike, I called the number listed on the website which said to send a text to the same # or an email and someone would respond - 3 texts, 4 emails and 1 voicemail later I am still waiting for a response. So i drove the farm (45 minutes away) and was told they didn't have any gift certificates printed/available so I couldn't purchase one. They only print on an "as needed basis" (standing in the store asking to purchase one obviously doesn't qualify as "as needed.)" Tried to support a small/local business (45 minutes is not really local for me, but i tried!!) I understand that it's a farm and they are busy, but if you can't take the time to respond to anything and be unhelpful in person then I will not recommend them to anyone. Only chose 1 star because i had to in order to post the review - given a choice I wouldn't even give them 1 star!!! read more

Simmons Farm's petting zoo has been a favorite of mine for years! When I lived close by and the winters seemed endless with still sailboats and gloomy skies, Simmons farm was here to help. There is something about feeding a goat that brings me to my happy place. Today I revisited after a long stretch of time and I was immediately brought to my happy place. The petting "zoo" has goats, sheep, llamas, chickens, roosters, ducks, cows, a pony and maybe a pig? (didn't see the pig today!). Come in the spring time and you'll get to see all the darling babies! They still use the same honor system for feeding them; put your money in the jug and scoop your feed. Great for kids, the young at heart, and animal lovers! This is an amazing farm to visit following a trip to Newport. The farm allows public access to their animals. Sheep, goats, cows, horses, turkeys, ducks and geese. They provide a giant grain bucket and little cups and for a donation of your choice, you have unlimited access to feed the aforementioned animals. Love this farm! read more
