The name speaks for itself. A simple restaurant that serves great food, nice and cozy ambiance and amazing service. Just what you need when you go out to eat. Ordered a bunch of their menu items as we went during brunch - they had an Italian inspired menu so we got their pasta, breakfast sando, steak and eggs, and french toast. The french toast on their home made milk bread was to die for. So good! But fair warning it is a bit too sweet so if you don't want it very sweet, get a different item from their menu and trust me you won't be disappointed. They also have a variety of drinks and a fully loaded cocktail bar - I got myself a drink curated based on my mood (I said I wanted something refreshing and tropical). It was such a nice touch. In the day they do Italian & brunch food & at night, modern Chinese. They get 3.5 stars. Udon Carbonara was pretty good. It was not udon but hand cut noodles. The sauce was creamy & there was a nice sweet & savoury taste & a slight crisp. Fried chicken was so so. The chicken was moist inside but the skin had an odd texture: maybe it was too moist, was not very crispy & the mouth feel was odd. The flavour was very light for fried chicken. Side kimchi was light, firmer & crisper than usual. Side pickled daikon was very fresh so there was very little pickled flavour. The tamarind sauce was very light, somehow distilling the essence of tamarind into a very pure, light sauce which didn't go with the chicken. Ube custard tart was itself very good with a rich, crumbly crumb & tasty ube stuffing (I wouldn't call it 'custard' though). Walk too quickly on Queen Street West and you'll breeze by Simpl Things tucked away on Dunn Avenue. It's a cute and cheerful establishment swathed in pastels with a retro feel. It's a place that locals know given their rotating customer groups during our late Saturday lunch. The brisket croquettes ($9) are a great snack or appetizer. Hot from the fryer, the crispy potato nuggets are stuffed with shredded beef. Offered as a daily special, I feel it deserves a permanent spot on the menu. In fact, an order of the croquettes with the mini wedge salad ($7) makes for a nice light lunch. The side salad is surprisingly large, almost half an iceberg lettuce topped with a creamy and zesty herb sauce and sprinkled with crunchy corn nuts, hazelnuts, and cashews. The excess dressing would go wonderfully with the croquettes. There are a lot of incredible breakfast sando ($22) around town. Simpl Things is fine, a tower of scrambled egg, bacon, avocado, cheddar cheese, pickled onions, and lettuce sandwiched between thick slices of soft house made milk bread. While filled with great ingredients, they just weren't hot enough - the bacon was cold having been premade and the omelette merely warm. Maybe it's a matter of preference, but I like mine steaming to cast of an enticing aroma. While it doesn't rock in the sando department, Simpl Things is where you go for boozy brunches. They offer an array of cocktails. I tried the butterfly effect ($18) that looks and tastes fruity, but not overly sweet so it makes for a great summer sipper. And if I were in the mood for more, I would have went with the cocktail flight (three for $30) or just ordered the "teeny" sized ones that are $10 each and make my own flight. Just a little tipple, a great excuse to knock back a few without getting smashed. read more

This is gorgeous bar/restaurant with such a nice styling to it as well as having lovely and helpful service. I quite enjoyed my drinks, especially their martini! My issue was mainly with the food, the sticky ribs I had were plain tasting and not cooked well. The oyster tartare was perhaps not to my liking or maybe just not good at all lol. Came here for a weekday lunch. I was honestly more excited to come here for the drinks than the food, but I ended up liking the food too. Tagliolini pomodoro was great. The noodles were al dente. The tomatoes were bright, acidic, and had a bit of sweetness. The herbs were fresh and made the pasta pop. I loved the selection of drinks that they had. Everything sounded great. I got the life's simpl which was very easy. A sake based drink with genmaicha and lightly sweetened. It seems like they switch out their drinks because I no longer see it on the menu. My partners and I stopped in for a weekend breakfast. We were the first ones there, and the host and cook seemed surprised we were there so early. My partners both got the breakfast sando, and I went with the avocado toast. The portions were massive, and everything was so tasty! The food came out quickly, too (probably because we were the only ones there). And the coffee was excellent. read more

Delayed review, my visit was back in July. Simpl Things offers Asian-inspired tapas. They didn't offer full-size dishes when I was there during dinner, unlike in previous reviews, so I'm assuming their menu offerings may rotate. Everything we had was pretty good. I especially enjoyed the baos and the herby cocktail we tried. The popcorn chicken is probably the best value in terms of size and proportion of the dish. There's not much seating inside, but there is a patio outside during warmer months. It's great for date nights. I probably tried most of the food items on that summer menu. Also, the staff is really helpful and gave great recommendations for drinks. We were lucky to get a table for 4 on a Friday night, but it was off to the side. Definitely give them a call to see if you can get a reservation, just in case. read more

Simpl Things, located on Dunn near Queen St W., is the newest casual restaurant in Parkdale. There is separate menus for lunch/brunch and dinner. During the day, Pasta Cartl serves up fresh pasta and sandwiches. At night, the restaurant serves up Taiwanese-influenced snacks. The drink menu is created by Evelyn Chick where there are classics as well as canned cocktails (and mocktails) available. The interior of the restaurant is a vibe - funky and unique at the same time. Seating wise, there are about seats for 25-30 customers (bar and tables). I stopped by Simpl Things on a Wed for lunch, surprised that the place was empty! There were 2 other customers who also came into dine alone during my time there. I ordered the following: - Beverage: "Nothing Com-Pears to You" canned cocktail consisting of Grey Goose, La Pore, Lillet Blanc, apple, fennel, and lime soda. - Croquetas (choice between fish or duck confit - the server recommended the fish as they were about to be taken off the menu) - Parsnip ravioli (parsnip, olive oil, shallot, salsa verde, vegan grana Padano) - this dish is vegan. The canned cocktail was delicious! Light and slightly sweet and bubbly. Perfect cocktail for daytime drinking. The croquetas were fried well with a crispy outer layer and soft interior. The fish flavor came through and the aioli it came with worked well with the dish. The pasta was great as well, cooked perfectly. The parsnip puree had a real earthiness to it but the salsa verde balanced the dish out. Great filling dish to complete a delicious meal. Service was great - server was friendly and asked if I needed anything several times Definitely want to return to try more dishes during the day as well as their evening menu! read more

Stellar. Definitely one of the best brunch spots in the city and better yet, they take reservations. I just love the intimate elongated space -- it used to be Nice Nice wine bar -- it just begs for great interior decorating, and Simpl Things has done the most with it in that department. So dang cute, it's sure to impress you the moment you walk inside. In nice weather, the large windows offer great summer breeze or you can sit outside on the patio. For brunch, no joke, the French toast is the best I've had in Toronto. My friends seconded this opinion. The shaksugo eggs were also delish and the cocktails are sublime. I'm sad to report that I haven't yet gone for dinner but I'm gonna get on that pronto. This is a quality, unique spot that's definitely worth your time. read more

The Simpl Things is a great place to go for a date, with an intimate group or one of the best places to start or end your night. The setup is very visually appealing and I'm not going to oversell it because I think the experience is best enjoyed as a reveal if you're not familiar. I also just can not say enough nice things about the staff here. Honestly one of the best experiences from not only a customer service level but also on a human to human level.
