    Tagliolini Pomodoro
    Samantha D.

Came here for a weekday lunch. I was honestly more excited to come here for the drinks than the food, but I ended up liking the food too. Tagliolini pomodoro was great. The noodles were al dente. The tomatoes were bright, acidic, and had a bit of sweetness. The herbs were fresh and made the pasta pop. I loved the selection of drinks that they had. Everything sounded great. I got the life's simpl which was very easy. A sake based drink with genmaicha and lightly sweetened. It seems like they switch out their drinks because I no longer see it on the menu. Definitely keep watch of their drink selection.

My partners and I stopped in for a weekend breakfast. We were the first ones there, and the host and cook seemed surprised we were there so early. My partners both got the breakfast sando, and I went with the avocado toast. The portions were massive, and everything was so tasty! The food came out quickly, too (probably because we were the only ones there). And the coffee was excellent.

Delayed review, my visit was back in July. Simpl Things offers Asian-inspired tapas. They didn't offer full-size dishes when I was there during dinner, unlike in previous reviews, so I'm assuming their menu offerings may rotate. Everything we had was pretty good. I especially enjoyed the baos and the herby cocktail we tried. The popcorn chicken is probably the best value in terms of size and proportion of the dish. There's not much seating inside, but there is a patio outside during warmer months. It's great for date nights. I probably tried most of the food items on that summer menu. Also, the staff is really helpful and gave great recommendations for drinks. We were lucky to get a table for 4 on a Friday night, but it was off to the side. Definitely give them a call to see if you can get a reservation, just in case.

"Nothing Com-Pears to You" canned cocktail. Delicious and light!

Simpl Things, located on Dunn near Queen St W., is the newest casual restaurant in Parkdale. There is separate menus for lunch/brunch and dinner. During the day, Pasta Cartl serves up fresh pasta and sandwiches. At night, the restaurant serves up Taiwanese-influenced snacks. The drink menu is created by Evelyn Chick where there are classics as well as canned cocktails (and mocktails) available. The interior of the restaurant is a vibe - funky and unique at the same time. Seating wise, there are about seats for 25-30 customers (bar and tables). I stopped by Simpl Things on a Wed for lunch, surprised that the place was empty! There were 2 other customers who also came into dine alone during my time there. I ordered the following: - Beverage: "Nothing Com-Pears to You" canned cocktail consisting of Grey Goose, La Pore, Lillet Blanc, apple, fennel, and lime soda. - Croquetas (choice between fish or duck confit - the server recommended the fish as they were about to be taken off the menu) - Parsnip ravioli (parsnip, olive oil, shallot, salsa verde, vegan grana Padano) - this dish is vegan. The canned cocktail was delicious! Light and slightly sweet and bubbly. Perfect cocktail for daytime drinking. The croquetas were fried well with a crispy outer layer and soft interior. The fish flavor came through and the aioli it came with worked well with the dish. The pasta was great as well, cooked perfectly. The parsnip puree had a real earthiness to it but the salsa verde balanced the dish out. Great filling dish to complete a delicious meal. Service was great - server was friendly and asked if I needed anything several times Definitely want to return to try more dishes during the day as well as their evening menu!

My friend and I tried... honestly, most of their cocktails and they were all well-balanced while adding their own flavour profiles! Cute, understated decor. "Szechuan tartar" was delicious (wasn't actually tartare, but I digress). Would return, perhaps for their daytime Italian menu!

This bottle shop has a unique variety of natural, organic, and biodynamic wines that may rotate depending on the season. The space also has a wine bar where you can try different wines by the glass or treat yourself in a wine flight or a whole bottle. The by the glass menu changes weekly where you get to have a chance to try new and exciting wines from different regions. I've been to Grape Witches several times but I was able to sit down at their wine bar this time and enjoy a wine flight (three 1oz pours featuring wines from Germany) and a glass of wine. Having the wine flight, I was able to find a new rose that I really enjoyed that I ended up getting a glass of it afterwards. Staff are extremely friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about wine where they can give you suggestions based on your preferences without being pretentious. You are also able to taste any wines you're interested in on the menu to see if you like them as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Grape Witches enjoying the delicious selections where I even found new favourites. Overall, a great new wine shop and bar at Waterworks Food Hall. If you love all things wine this is the place to go. They have unique bottles you can purchase and friendly staff to help you with selecting your wines. Will definitely be back to try other glasses of wine in the future!

The experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The staff seemed to be upselling throughout our visit, including recommending bottles that were above the budget we had shared. We also weren't informed about the corkage fee ahead of time, which came as an unwelcome surprise. Overall, it was an okay experience, but I wish there had been a bit more transparency and less sales pressure.

Our dinner chat was complemented by their Sweet Potato Chaat appetizer, which excels in balance…read more The beets deliver a pronounced sweetness with a pleasing acidity, while jicama, carrots and crushed chaat add crisp contrast to the soft sweet potatoes. Yogurt drizzled throughout lends gentle tang and creaminess, while pomegranate seeds punctuate each bite with bursts of tart sweetness. Tamarind-date drizzle and coriander chutney tie everything together into an addictive interplay of sweet, sour, earthy, herbaceous, and savory notes. The Crudo contrasts the former with mellow acidity, mint, dill and fish roe to elevate the thinly sliced snapper, and if looks can kill, they can certainly enamorate. The highlight was the Roast Chicken though, remaining juicy and tender throughout. Coated in a fragrant, earthy spice blend that upgrades rather than masks the chicken's natural umami. The apple slaw on the side adds a refreshing dimension, but I would've preferred more acidity among the mix of apples, onion, tomato, cucumber and cilantro. However, the accompanying sauce redeemed the dish, enriched with chicken drippings, yogurt and spices that's reminiscent of a lighter, savory butter chicken gravy. Finally, the short ribs are braised until the meat slips freely off the bone, deeply aromatic and laden with fat that easily melts on the palate. Its mild seasoning forces focus onto the meat, with some vegetable components bulking out the broth underneath. So if next time something's bugging you, come to Ladybug to relax.

This is a wine bar - the house lager was bad (maybe my own bad decision) and the red I got was fine ... nothing to write home about. However place fell apart with the food - the shrimp came with 5 medium sized shrimp with the tails, legs and shells on and were under seasoned. The artichokes were mediocre (loved the sauce they came with). Worst of all was the "Ontario peaches" with the burrata were totally canned peaches - could've even been dole brand! This place has amazing potential with the location and vibe - but the food just was not it. Small portions and the price didn't match what was served. The service was friendly but nothing too crazy. Go here for the drinks, but maybe not for the dinner!

Our server was great at helping us pick our wine, he mentioned that their wines are all on the dry side which is perfect for me, I'm not one for sweet wines. We also had two of their small plates the mussels and the burrata. The mussels tasted great with the sauce, a little garlicky which I prefer. The combination of the peach and mint went really well with the burrata. Light and easy to eat. The patio at night is one of the highlights. The only small complaint was it did take a while to get our wine after we ordered it and a little while to get our check. Otherwise cute spot.

I think it's also a cafe during the day. They had a live DJ playing some Berlin type music not too loud which was a nice touch. There is some seating space in front of the patio, and next to the building to hang out. Tall beer cans and cocktails are 7-8 bucks which is a good deal. They have some non-alcoholic beers too which is nice. Inside has that cool vintage hipster Berlin feel to it. No cover, no lineups, just a nice local neighbourhood bar near the bridge and a bunch of other autoshops. Was walking back from an art gallery and we just literally stumbled upon it and sat down for a catch up drink. I feel like Toronto needs more places like this. Quiet neighborhood bars with a nice selection of music, quality cocktails, not too expensive, no lines ups. Nice slightly mature place for people to catch up and have a drink without having to venture heavily into the Dundas West bar scene where it's way more hectic. Probably fits like 20 people so it's nice and intimate. Kind of reminds me of some of the bottle shops in Montreal where you can either drink it there and vibe or take it to the park right next to it. Place has some character to it. Would like to see it have a good solid run in Toronto's independent bar scene and be supported by the neighborhood. Next time I'm back I'll try out the cocktail menu and see if that's fire too. Can selection was interesting. I got a fruit punch vodka seltzer with 2 grams of sugar which was good. LBGTQ+ friendly but open to anybody really. Still has that cool Dundas West OG grunge premium dive bar feel all the hipsters like me enjoy. Keep up the great work Tommy!
