The bread is really dry and I thought the sandwhich would be pressed for some reason, but it's not horrible. My only complaint is that some of the staff was rude. After paying, I heard one of the girls sarcastically complain about how much I tipped. The 2 girls then proceeded to complain about another customer that came in and complained about how little she tipped. I find this very rude and awkward af; like why are you talking sh- about customers when you're literally standing in front of multiple customers. I don't know if she thinks people can't hear their conversation behind the counter, but the entire restaurant can lol. The girl who rang me up was really nice though. Just an FYI, I didn't even tip low, I'm not sure how much she was expecting me to leave for making some smoothies and a sandwhich lmao. We ordered 2 Bacon, egg & cheese toasted bagels & a breakfast burrito bowl. Honestly I wasn't confident about how I would like the burrito breakfast bowl, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The bowl is fresh baby spinach, chopped tomatoes, avocado slices, cheese and scrambled eggs, sooo good. A substituted vegan sausage for the hash potatoes in the bowl. Simple is a cute little nondescript sort of place from the outside, but it has a great breakfast menu, and it's super accommodating for all kinds of eating preferences. I ended up getting the vegan crunchwrap supreme, which was absolutely delicious and everything I dreamt it would be. If I had come here more than once, I would have gotten the vegan egg sandwich. The cafe is a nice place to eat, with a comfortable, open space, and free wifi and easy device charging for those that use cafes for these things. The menu indeed emphasizes simplicity, and there are a lot of whole vegetables and fruits visibly present. Despite the large number of people working there, it is strictly a counter service business (whose tip options start at 20% and run up from there) where you clear your own table. My main reason for selecting this particular place was the option to order a salad for breakfast. I was offered tempeh or avocado with it and certainly could have ordered a pastry or something else, but I wanted a healthy start to a day which-like most days out on the town in Asheville-is likely to yield plenty of culinary indulgences. My vegan caesar was freshly made with torn kale, and while I am not someone who eats a ton of kale, when it's done right, as was the case here with the kale torn and the dressing savory, it's good stuff. A moderate amount of croutons and a bunch of tomato added variety. A tea I ordered came in a fancy-looking pot full of loose leaves (though it was only about 95% effective at preventing the tea leaves from getting out). It was good quality tea. In my search for a satisfying breakfast with plant-based ingredients and not a ton of added indulgence, this was a success. read more

I tried this place for the first time this morning with the fam and it was crazy good! The Cocoa for Coconut smoothie, in addition to the obvious components, also contained almond butter, blueberry, and flaxseed meal, and was absolutely delish - I wanted to take home a gallon more. The Super Duper Açaí Bowl lived up to its name, exploding with fresh, rich fruity bliss and a satisfying granola crunch. The breakfast bowl featured a fantastic sweet potato hash served over a bed of verdant spinach leaves. I had them replace the vegan cheese with cotija cheese because, when you can get cotija, you must get cotija, capiche? But the super friendly, fun and helpful counter worker, Amy Rae, said I should try a bit of the house-made vegan cheese on the side and to my surprise, I didn't hate it at all, and could actually see myself ordering and enjoying it at some point. :) This is one of those magical places where you can eat healthfully, and yet still feel like you're getting that indulgent, scrumptious food fix that marks a truly great restaurant experience. My partner and I came here yesterday for a smoothie and juice on our road-trip to Charlotte. We decided to stop in Asheville to check it out since I've never been. The service is not bad but can be better. I appreciate him giving us the time to check out the menu, but very much ask me a question and I'll answer vibes. I asked him for recommendations and ended up ordering what he suggested in the juice category -- the drink is called Liver Love. It has beet, celery, carrot, lemon and apple in it. Normally, I shy away from beet, but I figured if they work here they probably tried everything on the menu at some point. Our order was accurate, and he quickly crafted our drinks. My drink was ready right away at the time of ordering, and my partner's drink took maybe 2 minutes top. My partner ordered the sunshine creamsicle smoothie and didn't really like it. It was also pretty busy on a Tuesday afternoon -- a bunch of people dined in, and they also serve pastries as well. There's limited street parking and also a small lot that's shared with a pizza place and a residence. I personally loved my drink, it gave me a cleanse like the guy said, and I'd come back again if I'm in the area. Simple Cafe is one of those places that I would frequent, if I lived in AVL. Located in West Asheville, it thankfully has a small parking lot available. As of Memorial Day weekend, their dining room was still closed due to COVID which made the rain on the day we were there very inconvenient. We ordered through a plexiglass divider at the front door and waited for our order to go. They had a good selection of smoothies, breakfast, salads, and sandwiches to chose from and everything looked pretty healthy. My friend had the tempeh Rueben with tomato dill soup and chips (which looked homemade) and I had the vegan banh mi with a side salad and Goddess dressing. Her sandwich was overflowing and delicious.I didn't try the soup but she liked it. The chips were amazing (if they are from a bag, go get yourself some)! I love Vietnamese food and we have some wonderful places here in Louisville. That said, I'm a banh mi snob. My vegan banh mi was excellent. The combo of flavors and textures was spot on and the veggie pate was outrageous good. I'm going to have start making and adding it to the sandwiches I make at home. The side salad was basic but the green goddess dressing was fresh and herbaceous- exactly as it should be. Simple's food is clean and just that, simple. You could probably make most of it at home if you had the time and inclination. With tip, our total was about $30 which is on the high side for a fast casual lunch for two. I wouldn't spend that regularly but Asheville is a bit pricier and all the food looked handmade rather than shipped in and from ingredients I can pronounce. read more

Against my initial skepticism, I love Simple. When I heard a juice bar was replacing the old Sub Grasso, my eyes rolled: "Great, another mediocre hippie/hipster joint selling something precious and pricey...just what WAVL needs." Then my husband became obsessed with their baked goods and apparently fantastic, meaty breakfast sandwiches and burritos. Finally he dragged me to lunch and I was pleasantly surprised by a goddess bowl with quinoa on the specials menu. It tasted fresh and well balanced with homemade dressing, roasted veggies, and crispy locally-made tempeh. I love being proved wrong sometimes. Especially when it means we have another great option in the neighborhood. I've returned to Simple a half dozen times and never been disappointed by the food. Their vegan/vegetarian game is slightly stronger than their meat offerings, but everything is quite delicious. Salads are very good - I like the ginger-miso kale with carrot ribbons, shredded beet, and tart, chewy goji berries and the cobb salad with chicken, tomatoes, avocado, and bleu cheese crumbles. (I recommend switching out the dressing since doubling down on the bleu cheese is intense.) One of Asheville's best bites right now is the tempeh melt at Simple. Think: toasted sourdough, crispy Smiling Hara tempeh, avocado, and gooey Havarti cheese, topped off with herbed veganaise and a sweet red cabbage and Brussels tamarind slaw. It's vegetarian but there's nothing austere about it. In fact, I had one an hour ago and would love another, please and thanks. It's fantastic with a cup of homemade tomato soup for dunking. Simple's is great in that it manages to taste like actual rich soup and not pureed spaghetti sauce. For breakfast, pastries like muffins and danishes are homemade and good. Other perks beyond the good food: super sweet staff, acceptable prices for the high quality, local sourcing, waste composting, the calm, pretty botanical-vibe dining area, the bin of kids' toys, and a baby changing table in the bathroom. Pretty hard to improve on much at all. OK: I don't like the drip coffee, and the reuben isn't the classic pressed and griddled cheesy corned beef gut bomb. I guess there's that. Simple's still pretty great all around. Whether you're into plant-focused eating or just like good food, stop in for a bite! read more

They definitely have a refreshingly imaginative selection of juices and smoothies available, so I'm keen to try something different next time (the Carrot Cake smoothie sounds amazing!). I'd definitely recommend trying any protein ball they have available, too (ours had dates, chocolate, coconut, cinnamon, etc. and was rapidly consumed). Wait staff was polite and efficient (which works by me on a busy Sunday around brunch), and our food was brought out quickly. I have studied nutrition, & there is nothing better to put in your tummy than the beautiful & delicious healthful fare here.
