Outstanding! The best meals of our entire trip! Service was good and the food and portions were amazing! Give them a try - they went through a lot to rebuild after Hurricane Helena. You won't be disappointed.

I was staying at a hotel in the Biltmore Village near The Corner Kitchen, and the reviews caught my eye. I am so glad we decided to go there for dinner. It was elevated Southern cuisine, and we enjoyed it enough that we may go back before leaving the area. The restaurant has a comfortable feel -- upscale, but not stuffy. The service was excellent. The servers were personable and attentive without hovering. At one point, I accidentally dropped my napkin, and our server immediately brought me another one. Our water glasses were continually refilled, and our server checked in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. My partner and I liked so many things on the menu that we knew ordering soup, salad, an appetizer, and entrées would be too much. We told our server we were sharing, and for most of the courses, they divided the portions and brought them out on separate plates. That was another small touch that showed they were paying attention to detail. There wasn't anything we had that we wouldn't order again. We started with the seasonal soup, which was a tomato bisque, followed by the strawberry and feta salad. The country ham board was excellent and actually had me looking for Lusty Monk mustard the next day. For our main entrée, we shared the shrimp and grits, which was also delicious. Great food, thoughtful service, and a comfortable upscale atmosphere. This was the best meals we had in the area.

This restaurant has always been a favorite of ours in AVL, so we are so glad they are open again! We always eat here when we are in town visiting. The food and service never disappoints! We had the peach panzanella this time and it was so fresh and delicious. The cashew cheese was so creamy and fantastic. We also shared the trout and the bourbon beurre blanc was divine! I could eat that sauce on everything. And the sweet potato hay and sweet potato mash? Heavenly! The staff went out of their way to acknowledge our anniversary. They were so attentive & kind! Go support this local restaurant! It is a gem!

Corner Kitchen has been a special dining location for my family for years. The staff is always incredibly personable, friendly and helpful. The quality of the food is outstanding. The dishes are delicious. There is a focus on working with local vendors. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. There are 2 levels of dining space and a cute outdoor area. Make sure to visit the restroom where some snarky signs are sure to make you smile! When Hurricane Helene hit, Biltmore Village (where Corner Kitchen resides) was heavily business. Sadly, there are several businesses who haven't reopened and many who never will. Being an lifelong Asheville resident, seeing the damage brought by the storm and flooding has been heartbreaking. I was so excited to see Corner Kitchen opened back I highly recommend dining at Corner Kitchen. The menu has a great mix of sweet and savory. The brunch items are our favorites! Make sure to get a biscuit and jam no matter what you order!

Food and service were both good , great little place surrounded by tiny boutique shops . We booked in advance just incase it was busy, but there was plenty of sitting inside , outside and upstairs. Would surly recommend trying it , loved the Boozy French toast.

The staff were ALL so helpful when I stopped in w/o a reservation. I had a nice table on the patio, an excellent chenin blanc and a delicious bourbon bread pudding. Although I cannot review the other dishes, what I saw & heard from diners was all positive. Considering that the Village area is still in recovery, this is quite a GEM there. My dessert was huge & perfect, I rarely find such an excellent chenin blanc and all in all it was the perfect top-off to a spring evening

It was sad to see so many little restaurants and places closed in the Biltmore village but glad to find this little gem - just a stroll down the street from the hotel . I'm a fan ! I only had a couple of appys but looking around at other food coming out it all looked pretty fab Delish , so well presented and just what I was looking for Thank goodness for this little foodie spot being open is all I can say!

We came in for a late night dinner (8:30) and I couldn't have imagined a better place to dine and rest after traveling all day. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, while still being very modern. Our server was very charming and helpful - especially with my food allergies. The food was delicious and we were surprised by a nice amuse bouche (romanesco salsa on a homemade tortilla chip) Warning: on the pecan crusted trout the ginger sweet potatoes were VERY ginger-y. Delicious, but make sure you love ginger before ordering!

Corner Kitchen is in Biltmore Village that was devastated by Helene, but you wouldn't know it. This elite restaurant is in an original house from the Vanderbilt purchase. They deliver like a well oiled machine. Staff was super friendly, knowledgeable of it's history and just fun to be around. It's a limited menu and changes frequently so look online at their website to see what's new. We had the shrimp and grits with a red eye gravy and the pork shank osso bucco. It was served over a creamy polenta and the pork was pull apart tender. We normally don't eat at fancy places but this experience was well worth it. Everything was fantastic. Do make a reservation to ensure you can get in. They were completely full and held to reservation time. Next time in Asheville area we'll definitely be back!

We went to Corner Kitchen with friends after they recommended it. Staff was great, everyone greeted us kindly, food was awesome and (while it isn't shown) my husbands homemade corn beef hash was probably the best we've had. It's quaint and cute, and definitely worth a visit.

I was so delighted to learn one of my favorite spots in Asheville had re-opened and it did not disappoint. Love the redesign of the host stand and bar addition. So clean, roomy and aesthetically pleasing. My daughter and I had the turkey croissant with shaved pear and the lavender marinated chicken salad. Truly amazing and so tasty. Oh and did I mention the fries - over the top. So glad to have them back open! Last but not least my favorite (craved it for a year) the PEA salad is so flavorful and refreshing!

What a cute place! They are open again after the horrible flood. Service is superb, food is delicious and ambiance is so Asheville! Don't miss this one and support the neighborhood that was totally destroyed!

    Corn Fried Oysters
    Justin R.

I really went back-and-forth between a three and a four but ultimately landed on a four star rating for the corner kitchen. Overall, the place is great... Really cool vibe and layout, super friendly staff, and well composed dishes. Our server was fantastic and did a great job taking care of us all night. We tried several appetizers and all of them were tasty, especially the fried oysters, which I highly recommend. The star of the meal for me was the crab and corn chowder. It was excellent! The reason I got hung up on the rating was due to a couple of things. One person in our group ordered the chicken and it came out tepid. It was cooked thoroughly and very flavorful, but I guess it just got cold waiting for the rest of the dishes to be ready. The other thing was the trout. We were told this was their signature dish and several people in our party ordered it I will say the composition was well thought out, and the green beans cooked perfectly for me, but the trout was simply overcooked. It is such a delicate fish so when you crust it and you cook it or leave it under a warming lamp too long, the fish can get dry, and mine was clearly overcooked. I was also not a huge fan of the crusting on the fish. It did not add a textural element as intended, and really just got muddy with the mushy texture of the overcooked fish. The sweet potatoes were also not my favorite. I am not sure of the flavor, but there was something floral in the sweet potato mash. That was just a bit offputting for me a couple of my companions shared similar thoughts on the fish. For this to have been their signature dish, I had higher expectations, which is why I was leaning heavily towards a three. However, everything else was really great and obviously they have a consistent track record of great food given their other ratings here on yelp. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, but I would likely not order the trout again if I have a chance to come back.

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.

Before coming, I read that the Gingerbread House competition had just ended and that the displays were still up. When we arrived, I didn't realize parking was now paid $30 which was surprising since the first time we visited it was free. Walking up to the hotel is impressive on its own. Seeing how this massive structure was built out of stone so long ago is amazing. Inside, there was a video playing that explained how the hotel was constructed, which was very informative. The roof being made of solid concrete to help make the building waterproof was especially interesting. When you walk through the front doors, the entry is grand and open, with huge fireplaces on both sides. The gingerbread house displays were spread across two floors and were absolutely incredible. It's amazing to see the talent, from young adults to experienced artists. Some of the displays look incredibly realistic. I added photos, and hopefully the video of the grand prize winner shows as well, it's truly impressive. I was really looking forward to my spa day. I had called a month before and was told they were booked for everything, but a wrap service. I booked myself a 80 min wrap and my husband a day pass at the spa. My husband wasn't nearly as excited as I was, especially when he learned it would be an electronics free day. He purchased a book at the spa gift shop to get him thru, but if you're someone who doesn't like a day of relaxation I'd recommend getting a book ahead of time. The spa itself is full of many different pools inside and then a smaller pool outside. I spent most my time laying on the outside deck near the pool. It was cooler in the morning but then the sun came out in the afternoon and it got pretty warm out there so I was thankful to have some cooler pools to jump in. My wrap was amazing. When Sarah came to get me for my appointment I told her I originally wanted a massage and she told me she could switch my appointment to that, which was interesting since the front desk did not give me that option both on the phone and when i checked in. I stuck with the wrap which also included a massage and it was the most relaxing 80 minutes ever. I'd book the same exact service again and request Sarah. I also had the avocado toast at the outdoor pool, which was so so. My husband said his poke bowl wasn't much better. Our room was outdated as we had heard. I dont think I would have been happy spending a week there, but it was fine for a night. We grabbed an early reservation at the sunset terrace for dinner. The view was incredible and the food (filet, salad and shrimp cocktail) was fine like the rest of our experience. Our room did come with buffet breakfast. I wasn't too hungry to enjoy it, but my husband seemed to really like it. I'm glad we got a spa day so would possibly book again if I wanted to enjoy another one while in the area, but wouldn't book the hotel on it's own.
