Very average to me. Location is inside of a building with other restaurants in it. Seems very up and coming (I'm not a local). I was the only one there and the staff wasn't very friendly, she wasn't rude but not engaging. The scone tasted old and i would not recommend. The protein yogurt bowl was delicious but so pricey IMO. My vanilla oat latte was fine. I didnt love it but i didn't hate it. I may come back once more to try the coffee again but noting here grabbed me to come back again and again. read more

Small find during my lunch break and I was pleasantly surprised. I was looking for something less than $20 and I came across this cafe. The vibe is great and I love the oldies playlist they have going on in the background. The service was good too, and the person working made sure to explain what they had and was transparent about being low on items. I ordered the lemonade which was really balanced and refreshing - not too sweet and not too sour. I also ordered the vegan empanada, which had quinoa and vegan cheese and it was surprisingly delicious. I'm always on the lookout for an alternative to Starbuck's...so I tried the Simple Cafe when I had a couple of recent eye doctor appointments in Santa Maria. My experience in their location at the south end of town was bad while things farther north off Stowell were a bit better. - Overall: 2 1/2 (South: 1 1/2. Near Stowell: 3) - Location: 4 - Exterior: 3 (South: 4. Stowell: 2) - Ambiance: 3 (South: 4. Stowell: 2) - Menu: 3 - Food Quality: 2 1/2 (South: 1 1/2. Stowell: 3 1/2) - Service: 4 - Price and Value: 3 - Parking: 3 (South: 4. Stowell: 2) Pros: - Location: Convenient. If one location doesn't fit, maybe the other one does. - Exterior in south Santa Maria: Very new, contemporary and attractive. - Ambiance in south Santa Maria: Spacious and clean with lots of room, including a bank of TVs along one wall. Sports were playing during my visit. - Menu: About average. The usual drinks and pastries...plus some pre-made entrees. - Service: Friendly. In both places, I was met and served with a smile. - Price and Value: Reasonable. Decent prices - especially if drinks are done properly. - Parking: Lots outside the south Santa Maria location, but a bit tighter off Stowell since it's located at the end of a large medical office complex. Cons: - Exterior near Stowell: Functional. You could easily drive by if you didn't know it. - Ambiance near Stowell: Like an extremely quiet shop. Older. Much more low key than the southern location. - Food: Bad in south Santa Maria...okay farther north. In both places, I ordered the same hot drink and said "please make it extra hot with extra foam and 1/2 sweet". Down south, a young woman made it lukewarm with no foam and fully sweet. Up north, it was made by a middle aged guy who delivered it hot with decent foam and fully sweet. I noticed he didn't write anything on my cup...so unless a receipt was printed with the details he was going by memory. In both cases, I looked for a cookie, but choices were very limited. Off Stowell, I bought a packaged biscotti from "Nonna's". I was there around 2 PM. Simple Cafe has the potential to be a good alternative to other similar spots, but until they fix their flaws I'd stay away. My quest continues. read more

Was out in the area for work and looking for a good coffee house and this one appeared. I was driving through the parking lot looking for the storefront and couldn't find it until I realized it's inside the Collective food hall. Ordered a Mexican Mocha to-go and it did not disappoint. Service was fast and I was the only person in line at 8:30 a.m. THe place is still relatively new. I'm definitely coming back to get coffee again here when I'm visiting. read more

Passed by here for some coffee. My friend with me asked for a double shot with a little milk and they accommodated. He really enjoyed the shot. I ordered a dirty chai with oat milk. It was delicious. The empanadas were delicious. Especially loved the chili oil dip they serve with it. The vibe is nice there. Simple Cafe is tucked in its corner of the collective which is an open designed location for multiple vendors. Think of the Annex in Oxnard, or the Packing District in OC, or SLO Public Market. Savannah, our barista, was very friendly and personable. The one star reviews you see because of the sticker shock is understandable though, but I don't think is fair. It's good quality coffee and they source the beans from a local roaster in SLO. The food is tasty, albeit expensive. But you have a decent coffee place in a foodie food court. Come for the coffee. Tried this place because it was recommended, but the coffee was honestly terrible. After a couple sips, we tried calling the shop for a refund -- no answer. I had to drive all the way back, and the employee first told me they don't do refunds and that "that's just how we make it." Only after calling the manager did she finally refund me. I came here for a business meeting and the person never showed up. So I ordered myself a Matcha latte. It was super tasty and rich and I very much enjoyed it. It's a nice quiet place to go if you're looking to get some work done remotely. Definitely want to go back and try other drinks. read more

This coffee spot is off the beaten path but wanted to check out the Mexican Chocolate Mocha. They're located in a co-op building, seating area and bathroom were very clean. The reasoning for this is "it's artisanal, and we have to drive to Santa Barbara to go get them." Santa Barbara doesn't make it good guys. This dumpling size disgusting disappointment of food existence should have gone straight in the toilet. Outrageous prices for garbage. The simple café it's on the road leading to Santa Maria airport! even though it has a parking lot, it is part of the general area for restaurants! It is the ideal location if you have to wait for our longer appointment such as Dog grooming in the nearby grooming salon. I had a vanilla cappuccino and a Serano empanada stuffed with cheese! I didn't check if they have Wi-Fi, but that is something that I should check next time around. The place felt like a quiet place one where one could focus on work. A big disappointment is that they removed the comfortable furniture and replaced it with the hard chairs and high tables that are everywhere else throughout the building. Aricelli at Simple Cafe has a friendly and relaxed demeanor and she makes a killer coffee - she's just who you want to see if you're having a frazzled morning! This was our first time here! The coffee was great, we got iced vanilla lattes with almond milk. The barista was very nice and helpful with any questions we had.
