This was a great spot for a casual togo pickup. Food 5/5 Ordered the cooked salmon poke bowl and the fish was cooked perfectly and was my favorite part of the whole meal. This reminded me of how my family cooked salmon at home. Huge fan of this dish Vibes Not much space to sit down. Fun retro decor with quotes from famous people and skateboards lining up the wall. Bonus points for the Taylor Swift painting Super friendly staff also that helped me order. They have a deal where you if you buy 2 teas you can get one free, which brings it to $6 for 3 teas.

We were looking for a place to get fresh poke bowls and came here due to such great reviews. It did not disappoint. We got one spicy tuna bowl and one miso salmon bowl. Both were great. Next time I'm interested to try the ahi tuna bowl. Be aware there is very limited seating inside.

You don't know what you've got until it's gone. Hard lesson learned this past year when Simple closed down due to the pandemic... I did not expect myself to be missing it as much as I did, checking their Instagram almost every week to see when they'd reopen. I really didn't appreciate them as much as I should've pre-COVID. After 9 excruciating months, they finally reopened (thank GOODNESS) on 12/22. My boyfriend and I picked up our spicy salmon poke bowls that very night. It was everything we remembered it to be and more. The raw fish is always so fresh and seasoned perfectly, paired the best with a white rice base. The countless side ingredients elevate the bowl - from the seaweed salad to pickled ginger, from the edamame to mashed avocado, to *all* the crunchies... it never ends. Every bite is a party. At less than $12 a bowl, it's a steal considering that the huge portion size can be split into two. I'm a big eater but always overly stuffed by the time I finish my bowl in one sitting. If you have nori sheets lying around your house, I suggest quartering them and scooping a bite of the poke onto the dried seaweed. Optional of course but YUM Service here is always so great and friendly. Hope they remain open from now on - please don't keep me waiting like that again!

I live pretty close to this place and it is my GOTO poke place. I come here often and this family run business truly cares about their customers. The service is always pleasant and the food is high quality and made with care. I just found out they make more than just poke, and it's just as good! If you're in the area, definitely hit this spot.

I am not sure how to say this. Maybe I'm a wraith. (Drake reference to "In my feelings"...that's right I went there. I absolutely feel like I ate this, and while I was inhaling it. I felt like I died and went to heaven. I loved the aroma...and the huge cubes of raw salmon and spicy tuna. There is a bit of everything. A helping of green unoily seaweed, fresh sweet slivers of ginger, actual smashed avocado, random bits of mango surprising all the way. All I can say is that this was so speechless good. Like that feeling you get when you know you did the right thing in your gut? I highly recommend it. I take umbrage when I read the other reviews that say this bowl is small. It's not at all. It's rice heavy and raw fish protein amazing portioned. I will travel an hour to Manhattan (taking two trains and getting lost) and endure the people squish and the random shoving/elbowing on a subway for this. So yummers! And there's a loyalty card thingie. Even if it didn't have that freebie program thingamigi, I would totally return. It now earned a spot on my bucket list! Just nothing but homage! I want an excuse right now to go, but work ends at 8 pm! Why!!!!!

Love this place but only getting 4 stars because I wish they included more of the toppings. I had literally 4 tiny pieces of mango and 5 edamame pods. I kept digging around looking for it. But super tasty and large portions.

I was walking in the area a few months ago when I realized Simple NYC had a LES location - I've only been to the Brooklyn spot before and it is my favorite Poke in all of NYC. They just have a great positive attitude and genuinely bring a smile to your face. I came here for lunch last week in the afternoon with no high expectations but I was pretty blown away by the spicy salmon poke bowl that I ordered! When I arrived, I found the store to be cozy with really cute decor and was kind of small but still had some seating. I was greeted by a super friendly cashier. The price was about $13 something for the poke bowl which I thought was a really good price. I found a seat against the wall near the cashier and enjoyed my music and reading while waiting for my food. When I got my poke bowl, I was astonished by how big the portion was and how much salmon they gave too. I usually don't like dressing in my poke bowl either but the toban djan aioli was a great combo. with everything in it. Everything tasted fresh and was overall delicious! I left very satisfied and the store was getting packed during lunch hours! Come in the early afternoon! I overheard that the octopus on the menu has been out of stock for a while. I do want to go back and try the octopus next time, hopefully it'll be on the menu!

So I go here a lot. So close to my 10 stars from their rewards program! I've tried a good amount of items here, and nothing disappoints. I'm a huge fan of both poke and bento boxes! Their poke is generous in size. You can choose white/brown rice, quinoa, or salad as your base (though it is extra to half and half bases). The fish is always tasty and fresh. My favorite is the ahi tuna, sooo full of flavor. They really pile the toppings and I love them for that!! The bento boxes are delicious too! I love the Hamburg curry. The hamburger patty is really juicy and the curry sauce has a good amount of flavor. But my absolute favorite is the short rib bento... YUM. No bone, just the meat is sooo tender omg. And soft stewed carrots are my weakness. Cooked together in the slightly sweet, rich stew... Yum. I love the egg salad side too. It has a slight hint of truffle that really makes it interesting. I wish they put more to be honest lol. The space is cozy. Expect to share seating at the one large table, or the two-seater bar or two-seater table.

Great poke bowls I got the salmon bowl. Gave me a choice of rice, brown rice, quinoa, and salad. The bowl was packed with fish, avocado, and seaweed. They also have a great variety of Japanese dishes which I want to try next time. The lady in front was so pleasant and really made you feel welcomed. They also served bubble tea for $3, which was refreshing. I definitely recommend this place. read more

Small place with friendly service, cute decorations and very reasonably-priced food. I had the salmon poke bowl with quinoa as the base and sunflower seeds for the crunch. The quinoa was sprouted and perfectly cooked and the salmon and vegetable were yummy and fresh. I brought a potato croquette back for my boyfriend, and that was a very tasty treat. I love that this is conveniently located just a block from the Grand Street train stop, and I look forward to making this a regular stop for a healthy and filling meal (oh yeah, portions are generous, too). read more

Like many New Yorkers I don't cook, which means I eat out pretty much exclusively. So I've eaten at a lot of restaurants. Some are good and some are bad, but I am a die hard regular only at Simple NYC, my favorite of them all. I've been coming here around three times a week for months (I've spent more money than I'd like to admit!) and treat the place basically like my private kitchen. There's a few reasons why: 1. The quality of the food. Excellent, healthy meals with high quality ingredients carefully prepared by a chef who used to be high up in the catering world, all for a very reasonable price. My favorite dinner is the short ribs bento box -- a big portion of delectable slow cooked short ribs in an incredible savory sauce for $14.50? Sign me up. (In regard to what the cuisine actually is here -- I have a tough time describing it. Vaguely Asian? But comfortably American? I don't know, it's just good clean honest food to me!) 2. The quality of the people. The place is run by a bunch of lovely people who treat customers like family and care about their product and service. I've become friends with all of them! 3. The quality of the service. Quality is incredibly consistent and food is prepared super quickly with little fuss. They are always eager to hear customers' feedback about the food and often make adjustments accordingly. 4. The space!!! It's comfortable, cozy, casual (only minimal table service) and you can usually get a seat. My one complaint with Simple is that they've ruined other restaurants for me. It's like, I had to wait *how* long for such *little* food that doesn't even taste that great? Damn. Simple, you're a freaking gem! read more

Came here for lunch because I pass by it every day to and from work and have been waiting for it to finally open. It's a small, quaint, family-owned (seemed like son was working the register with mom helping him that day) establishment that has a lot of promise. Came in and was suggested that I get the poke because it was hot that day (the weather, not the food). I opted for the Spicy Tuna Poke (wish they had Spicy Salmon as an option). Their grain options are white rice, brown rice and quinoa. I opted for tried and true white rice, the asian in me didn't consider any other option. I was a little bit indecisive about the crunchies (corn flakes, wontons skins, sesame and sunflower seeds) so I just asked for a little bit of everything and they complied. Lady told me to make sure to mix everything before eating. (Great Tip) Now on to the food. I've never had poke before so I have nothing to compare it to. Overall it was pretty good and it definitely tasted better when you mixed everything together. I usually like to try each individual part to taste and they don't really work by themselves so make sure you mix well, so that each spoonful has a little bit of everything. I thought i could shake up the food in the container that they provide, boy was I wrong. It was so packed there wasn't enough room for any of the ingredients to mix. Some minor criticism about the poke bowl itself. I wish the ingredients were more uniform in size/shape, the yellow pickled radish were the biggest sinners here; pieces were too large and thick sometimes, maybe they they could work better julienned. Could have used more crunchies for more of a texture contrast. more sauce in proportion to all the ingredients, and tuna (food could always use more meat) but I'm just nitpicking here cuz the bowl was already pretty full. TL:DR - 3.5 stars but I'll round up. Solid 4 stars if they fix the small problems. Overall, had a positive experience and this makes me want to try other poke bowls in the city. Portion was decent, about the size of half a volleyball. Food was good, pretty tasty but a little pricey (just under $11 w/tax) considering the area but everything has gotten more expensive. read more

This is very quickly becoming my favorite poke spot around the area. Had it for the first time on Thursday and went back again today. The spicy tuna poke is great. Fish is very fresh and the rest of the ingredients compliment the tuna very well. I was a little concerned that ordering it on a bed of greens would not be enough to fill me but that was not the case. Customer service is great. The workers there are very friendly and it gives the place a very home-y environment. The classic milk tea is also very delicious. Will definitely be coming back soon. read more

Not the best poke bowl place I've been to but it's cheaper compared to the others. They already have a set of what should go in the bowl, all you have to do is choose what meat and topping you want. I got the salmon bowl. Does get me full but I wish they put more meat or avocado in mine. read more

Come here every now and then. Great customer service and are always so kind and polite. I order the Salmon poke bowl and their poached shrimp poke bowl. All of their ingredients are very fresh.they also have Yuzu or plum soda which are very refreshing and goes well with the bowls. Their space for dining are limited but there are parks near by. read more

This place is pretty small but they have a really interesting decor. There's an ukulele on the corner where u can play while you wait for your order to come. Unfortunately they don't have a restroom but u could go across the street to the dumpling store and use it there. The food's pretty good. read more

Oh, look at that. It's a new establishment hopping on the poke craze in New York! Of course I need to start off with it's comparison to Pokeworks. First off, the food quality here is much higher. It feels rather homey as well! Also included is freshly prepared food, doing away with the subway like concept Pokeworks has. This could be viewed as both a bad and good thing. What stops it from being that perfect 5 star? It just comes down to how I feel that there is a perfect place out there. Maybe one that has a bathroom. As a suggestion, you should put condiments out similar to Pokeworks. I'm sure I can request some kind of hot sauce like substance or sesame oil. But why be asked if they can just be available? read more

I don't understand the latest poke bowl craze (in NYC, Shanghai or CA), but I sure appreciate it since I'm from Hawaii and often get homesick for local island flavors. Served atop rice, quinoa or lettuce with all kinds of other stuff like carrots, cucumbers, wonton chips, avocado, etc is NOT the way I grew up eating poke, but that's almost similar to the new way me and my family have been eating poke for a fast, healthy lunch or dinner for the last few years (minus the wonton chips). Leave it to the mainlanders to innovate it! I love the vegan tofu bowl at SIMPLE. They are so generous with the seaweed salad, avocado, pickled daikon and tofu on mixed greens. SIMPLE is going to be one of my regular stops for fresh and healthy (and reasonably priced) bowls in NYC! read more

Pretty good! A coworker of mine had mentioned about Simple before, and I had been wanting to check it out. Was walking around after work today, deciding what I should eat.. Decided to drop by after getting a milk tea. It is a small, cozy spot. Wait time was decent and workers here were pretty nice. Cute little seats. Interesting decor. I found myself looking at the decor while sitting and eating, trying to see what everything said. There is quite a lot on the menu, so take your time looking before deciding what you'd like. From poke to bento to milk teas, etc. I am a huge salmon fan, so I opted for the salmon poke, as always. Compared to other places I've been to, Simple was cheaper with a good portion of ingredients in the bowl, and definitely filling. Pretty fresh and a variety of flavors together. I liked it, but I also like the poke from the other places I have been to. I feel like every poke spot have their own way to making delicious food, and so far, all these places haven't disappointed my craving. Depending on what flavor combination I crave, I would be back to these poke places. read more

Stopped in for lunch and was very satisfied with my first Poke Bowl. Ordered the Spicy Tuna with salad. A lot of fresh ingrediants and was a full serving for lunch. My very minor complaint is it being heavy on the salad dressing. Will ask for less next time. I can see Simple opening more locations in the near future. Very good and unique. read more

Such a cool small, hidden spot for food. Great tofu bowl as their vegetarian option. The staff was friendly and the food was great. I personally am not the biggest fan of asian foods doused in soy sauce and that was not the case at this place. The meal with light but filling, and felt pretty healthy overall. Not sure how long it's been open. But really would suggest this place to others. read more

The poke here taste very fresh. It's not an assembly line like most places. You order at the counter and wait about ten minutes and you get a fresh bowl of poke. I tried the octopus and the ahi tuna. Both are good and well seasoned. Prices are also reasonable. The ahi tuna does appear to be seared tho. And the bowl is filling. I also like how the fish is not drench with sauce. read more

This restaurant did not disappoint all the rave about their pokebowls! Have been here a few times in the past when they served katsu and was great back then as well. The spicy salmon pokebowl was filling and has a lot of complimenting flavors when mixed. Finished the entire bowl with no leftovers because it was soooo good. Cannot wait to return for another meal! read more

My favorite poke spot in AMERICA! Everything is always so fresh, Delicious, and cheap! The staff is always so nice from ordering over the phone to pick up in person. This poke spot has a lot of different options in terms of fish. I also enjoy the bases as my mood changes from brown rice to salad. I tried a lot of poke around USA and this place still remains my favorite. You can sit inside and the place is very cozy, but small. I enjoy coming here for my lunch break. New fave place in the neighborhood. Quick, healthy, and delicious. I especially love how you get to choose your base. Most poke bowls come with the standard white rice option, but here you get to choose! Either salad greens, quinoa, brown rice, or white. This place is great! Teeny tiny little poké spot on the edge of Chinatown and the Lower East Side that delivers great quality (and surprisingly large portions!) at an excellent price. I had the ahi tuna bowl with sesame seeds and brown rice. Fish was fresh and toppings were plentiful. My friend had the chicken katsu curry and enjoyed it. I also have to mention that the staff is unbelievably friendly. Bonus points for that! read more

This was really fantastic poke, significantly better than average. Brown rice is available. I got the spicy salmon and it was excellent. Staff were also super nice and service was speedy. There's even a reasonable amount of space to sit if you're not on the run. My only (tiny) complaint is that portion sizes are huge and I can't reasonably eat that much in one sitting. read more

When Yelp points you some where, I have found that their recommendations are often times full-proof. Case in point, Simple NYC was on a list of "The Best 10 Poke near East Village" and it just so happened that it was right near the many errands I ran with my parents today. We walked in around 2:15, and were treated to delectable Poke that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. We tried both the ahi tuna and spicy tuna, one with fried wonton wrappers and the other with sesame seeds over a bed of warm brown rice. Texture is the name of the game in Poke, and Simple NYC certainly brought some serious flavor as well with this humble dish. I would suggest trying Simple if you are on the Lower East Side and craving something healthy, but also indulgent. read more

After coming here a few times, I can whole-heartedly say that this establishment deserves 5 stars. Food? Impeccably delicious, beautifully presented and extremely well priced. Where else in NYC can you find poke bowls for UNDER $10? Here at Simple! Drinks? High quality and fresh. They use Harney & Sons tea for their mixed tea drinks and a siphon to brew their coffee (which btw is the coolest thing to see). Definitely try the bubble tea here as they stew the pearls til it's perfectly chewy and sweet! Decor? SO FLIPPIN' CUTE! Everything about this place screams 'authentic'. From the hand-drawn stools to the handmade food figurines plastered on the walls, Simple is decked out in fun knickknacks that give it a cozy vibe. Service? A+. The place is small, which means lines can form pretty quickly, but this doesn't stop the owner from patiently answering everyone's concerns. Have been looking for a Poke place that has reasonable prices with great food. I have finally found one at Simple. They use fresh and healthy ingredients in all the Poke bowls. My first time there I went with the Salmon Poke with white rice, fantastic. It isn't authentic Poke that you get in Hawaii but it works beautifully. It has a combination of Asian cuisines/favors all rolled up into one bowl.My second time around I went with their special Miso Shrimp with quinoa and my wife got the Salmon Bento Box, both were great. Each dish is definitely enough to satisfy your hunger. You can expect a little wait since each item is made to order, but it is well worth it. Staff is friendly and willing to explain and/or provide recommendations depending on your diet. They are also looking to change some of the menu depending on the season and the best available ingredients they can find. This is my favorite spot for poké in the city. The fish is always fresh, they have all the popular flavors and the portion sizes are generous. For those in your party that are adverse to raw fish, there are cooked dishes as well that are just as good. Just be mindful that the shop is small with limited seating. read more
