The sushi is good. I like the ability to select between Japanese, Thai, and Chinese dishes. They don't have a liquor license so you can not have beer or wine with your meal. It has been about 18 months since we ate here and wow this place went in the crapper fast. Not sure if it's a change of ownership or cooks. Wife ordered sweet and sour chicken and it came out as sliced broiled chicken, not tempura fried chicken, the fried rice tasted like Spanish rice, and my family delight was tasteless, I knew it was bad when I started putting extra hot sauce on everything. The new owners of this establishment used to own Pings Cafe in Gettysburg. The food is prepared with a high level of concern regarding freshness. During the summer months, I know the Chef/Owner brings in veggies to cook with from his own garden! The Chef has high-end hotel restaurant experience... and it shows. This is not your typically chinese joint. Try some of the creative specialty dishes (on the whiteboard) and you will be amazed with the flavors. My only caution to eating here is once you do, it will be the "measuring stick" you will use against all other Asian restaurants. I have a hard time eating asian food anywhere else....seriously! I have eaten here many times since it opened, and although the food is always great, it was better under the previous owners. I highly recommend the Pad Thai, and the Japanese Teriyaki. They use fresh ingredients cooked to order, and you don't feel guilty after eating it! The sushi is hit or miss. A few times it has been great, but others were just okay. The rolls are always smaller than I expect, but it is a nice side, or appetizer. The steamed dumplings were also disappointing, not bad, but I wouldn't order them again. We also ordered a "large" wonton soup, and it only came with 4 wontons! It was mostly broth, and smelled a little too fishy for my taste. Overall, I highly recommend Simply Asia. It is definitely the best dining Thurmont has to offer, and the best Asian food in the area. The staff is very attentive, and carry-out is just as good as dining in! read more

This place is a gem. The food is fresh, hot and seasoned perfectly. The hot and sour soup is mouthwatering and has a nice little kick to it. This is a really nice place. You can tell from the decor that it's really well taken care of. We stopped here on our way from DC to NYC and it felt like some sort of lounge / place for a small retreat. They have quite a variety of lunch specials, ranging from the typical American Chinese dishes to Bento boxes, and the prices are very reasonable. As a Chinese person, I have to say the wonton and miso soups here are better than most. The sushi and Pad Thai were solid four-star, and the greens felt really fresh. The chicken in the Bento box and the Szechwan bean curd tofu were too salty for my taste. I suggest that you ask for less soy sauce / hoisin sauce or whatever black paste it is that they put on. If I'm ever back in this complex, I'd choose this place again. read more

Two pieces of nigiri maguro were not edible (fishy). The Chinese food wasn't as good as the Wegmans food bar and the fried rice was awful. Wouldn't go again. Too many great options in Frederick. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and pork fried rice. They managed to messed up my entire order!! The shrimp tempura only came with 5 pieces when it's suppose to come with 6 pieces. I received shrimp fried rice instead of pork. When the cashier was going over my order I clearly heard her said pork fried rice. It was my pleasure to eat here this past weekend. The decor is simple, bright, spotlessly clean, and comfortable. The service is excellent and attentive. The prices run from $2.95 to $19.95, with the average around $9.95 for an entree. The kimchi and hot and sour soup were up to my standards, which I use to judge Korean and Chinese restaurants. The shumai were below my standard, too soft and somewhat tasteless. I later was told they were not house made. The dumplings are house made and I intend to try them next time. Not bad. I got the wonton soup & mu shu pork & veggies tempura. The soup was pretty salty but ok. The mu shu was Very salty. It was ok. The veggies tempura was good although there was mostly broccoli-there were 2 small pieces of asparagus but it would have been nice to have more variety. And smaller broccoli pieces or a knife. Friends introduced us to Simply Asia a few months ago, and we have returned twice. I found it a very pleasant surprise for Thurmont, MD. It is small, but cozy and from what I could see, it was extremely clean. The service if by far the most friendly I have had since moving to the PA/MD area over 20 years ago. I must admit I wouldn't have known what some of the dishes were if we had gone alone on our first visit. Our meals were served in a timely manner, with the soup and Thai Spring rolls in plenty of time to enjoy before our main course. I would return just for the Won Ton Soup, Thai Spring Rolls with such a delicious sweet and spicy sauce. We completed our meal with the Mini Sugar Donuts that were the best ever! read more

When looking at the menu I thought the prices were a little bit high but once we got our meals I realized the little bit higher price was well worth it! The portion sizes were huge and the food was fantastic! The chicken teriyaki was brought out on a sizzling skillet. 2 Of the largest chicken breasts I've seen cooked perfectly on a bed of asparagus and red onion all topped with a delicious teriyaki sauce.
