This place may be small, but it's full of heart. It's my second visit, and I've noticed a friendly, familiar vibe. Staff and regulars seem to know each other well, giving it a true mom-and-pop feel. We were warmly greeted and seated quickly. Drinks came out right away, and the service was attentive throughout our meal. I had the steak and eggs with house potatoes and toast. While I'm not sure it was actually ribeye as listed, it was tasty and well-priced. The brunch burger was also a hit, no complaints there! They offer a tempting variety of baked goods, including coconut cake, red velvet, and rice crispy treats, plus a fridge full of pies. You can also grab a T-shirt for $20 to celebrate their 40th anniversary. I'm planning to come back for lunch soon to try their award-winning chicken. Stopped in on a Sunday at about 1 pm. Note: they close at 2 pm on Sundays and there was definitely a vibe that the waitresses were done for the day. But more people came in that last hour both for carry out and dine-in than was there when we arrived. They really should stay open longer on Sundays. Some staff are pleasant, some are surly. We ordered two burgers, one with waffle fries and one with chips. They were hot and delicious! My only complaint was the grilled onions on the Swiss burger were not tender--I think they were from the outermost skin of the onion. I literally could not bite through them but had to gobble them like spaghetti you can't break! Hubs ordered the Burger of the Week which had Doritos and was so large it came with a steak knife in it! Passing through the town and stopped by to pick up a sandwich. The place was packed! It definitely had the charming little restaurant vibe. Had the Turkey Rueben which was delicious. While waiting for my food, this giant whoopie pies caught my eye. Couldn't say no. No room for dessert today but will save it for tomorrow. After a long drive in this scorching summer weather we're having, I was only too happy to discover this restaurant in the small town of Thurmont. It seemed to be the only one open for dinner on a Tuesday evening. The bright red paint with white trim on the interior is lively and represents a barn setting. TKK is a gathering place for locals. It's worthy of mention that no one was using their mobile phones. Diners were talking to one another and unwinding from their day. It's a nod to an earlier, more genteel era in America and lovely to see. The broasted chicken, as many yelpers have raved about, is one of the hallmarks of this spot. I saw a lot of it coming out of the kitchen. It takes 25 minutes to prepare, so be forewarned, but it's very good and worth the wait. I had a pretty decent lump meat crab cake sandwich that cost $12.00. The French onion soup is commendable. TKK is popular, and so there can be a bit of a wait, but not bad. The menu is full of comfort foods, well executed for the most part. It's certainly appropriately named. read more

A solid average restaurant. If I lived in the area I'd probably be a more regular visitor but as I do not I think the next time I visit I'll check out some other places first. Their crowd was on the geriatric side. That could've been due to it being a weekday afternoon but I think it was a telling sign about their clientele and food style. What we got: Honey Do sandwich - 3.5* overall pretty great! The pickle on the side though was just a few slices, not what I was expecting at all. (Forgot the name) - triple Ruben melt - 3.5* by my partner (I liked the chicken sandwich better). The melts came with two sides so we tried the loaded mashed potatoes and corn fritters. Both were solid side options though nothing extraordinary. Red velvet cheesecake ice cream sandwich - 3* the cookie portion of the sandwich tastes like chocolate biscotti. The ice cream cheesecake was interesting. It was a dessert I ate and finished not one I'd get again. read more

Stopped in yesterday looking for an American classic, this place did not disappoint. The food was homey and well portioned, and the service? Let me just say this. My daughter received some sad news while we were waiting and the staff was so kind, even brought out some tissues for her. Thanks for the extra care. My husband and I were driving through the area and did an internet search to find a restaurant. We wanted to go to a place we knew nothing about. We were very pleased with our choice! The food was so good and fresh! Our server was great! I wish I could remember her name to give her better recognition. She was very attentive and we had a great time talking with her! Super nice! We immediately said to each other that we need to go back to try other menu items! We only live 1 hour away so I'll bet we will do just that! My son had the Nick grilled chicken...he liked it but said the fried chicken was better. We had loaded bacon cheese fries and they were soggy. Could have made them better for the price. The fries was more then my actual sandwich which was confusing. The dessert we took home. A Pumpkin muffin and a apple parfait. The parfait was very good and the muffin was a little bland( Nothing special ). An easy stop for anyone traveling on Route 15. Adorable and clean country restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered a hot turkey sandwich and the broasted chicken. The food was tasty. We didn't expect a white gravy on the turkey but it was good. The broasted chicken was delicious. I didn't care for the potato wedges or the broccoli salad. It appears most of the stuff is made on site. The desserts looked amazing but we were really full from the large portions so we bought some to enjoy later. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Walked in this morning in the mood for some brunch/lunch. This place is so cute; the service is amazing!!! The food was delicious. The broasted chicken deserves all of its awards. Perfectly crisp outside, perfectly tender and moist inside. And a price that's hard to beat: $12.99 for half a bird plus potato wedges and sides. I'd also give the service 5 stars -- we came in yesterday for lunch with a group of 12, which is never easy to handle, but the staff was attentive from beginning to end. To boot, I bought a chocolate meringue pie to take with me, and when I forgot it at the register, the server came out to the parking lot and found me. Btw, if you've never visited Thurmont, you should stop by. The Kountry Kitchen has the same relaxed small-town feel as the place itself. Can't wait to go back next time I'm nearby. read more

I visited this place based on reviews and photos of the broasted chicken. I ordered carry out for my family. We ordered an 8 piece with potato wedges and green beans, chicken and waffles with mashed potatoes. I called ahead and ordered for carry out. When I arrived after the 15-20 minute suggestion of the employee on the phone, my order wasn't ready. It appeared to have been forgotten or not entered. I had to wait about 10-15 minutes to get my ordered which was very disappointing. The price was fine. However, the chicken, potato wedges, and mashed potatoes were lacking seasoning. We had to add salt. The desserts were the saving grace of the experience. The cookies and gooey butter cake were delicious. Not sure if I would return. read more

We were staying at a nearby wedding venue, and came in for breakfast. We were all from out of town, and we were a fairly large crowd (15 people). They accommodated us and fed us, but we were met with some attitude from the staff about making reservations, etc. The food was good, prompt and ample servings. The bill did not break the bank. I would recommend this place for smaller groups, or if you can make a reservation. Decor was fine, seating was a mix of tables and booths. Menu was normal breakfast fare. The only thing that keeps me from giving it five stars was the poor attitude and hassle we got from our waitress. read more

Ok so this is not the country kitchen I was expecting. Maybe that's why it's spelled wrong. Busy Sunday morning. Pumpkin pancakes were just ok, fluffy but lacking flavor. No real maple syrup available, disappointing. Sausage was also lacking flavor. Hash brown was a frozen version from the grocery store , not homemade, disappointing again. Wife's omelette was overcooked and her home fries again lacking seasoning. What's with all the bland food here . Maybe their famous chicken is better but I'll never know because I don't think we will ever come back. Kind of a big disappointment. The deserts look delicious but we were full and had a 5 hour drive back home. 2 star food 3 star service. read more

Tried the "Famous" chicken with wedges and 2 sides that everyone raves about its definitely on the saltier side but definitely juicy. Still not something memorable that wed drive 1 hour to come back for. We also ordered the Haddock which comes with 2 sides. The disappointing thing is the sides. The portion for the coleslaw and potatoe and Mac Salad were fine but we got our portion for onion rings and it was just so sad. The one thing we really enjoy and it came with like 3 pieces with 2 broken scraps see photo. Quaint restaurant in a small downtown that is friendly and welcoming. While service seemed slow, we did come during their breakfast/brunch rush which delayed the server a bit. We ordered breakfast bowls. Eggs, home fries, choice of sausage or chip gravy, sausage or country fried steak, & topped with cheese. Ours were sausage gravy (creamy & well spiced), crispy home fries, sausage in mine ( prefer regular breakfast sausage, not diced links.), fried steak (crispy, tender, & delicious) in Giz, & no cheese.
