Horrible massage experience. It wasn't a deep tissue massage for starters, the masseuse used hot stones without asking, and he took long breaks between working on each area (I counted one as 34 seconds) which made me so uncomfortable and made me wonder what he was doing. My friend and I visited Simply Swank to celebrate my birthday. We both took a day off work and our day of fun included a Signature Spa Pedicure at Simply Swank. We are both long time clients of the salon and spa. I no longer get my hair styled there as my stylist opened her own salon, but will occasionally visit for spa pampering or product purchases. I would like to start my review by saying my Signature Spa Pedicure experience with Meagan was excellent. The service lasted 60 minutes as described and my feet looked and felt great! to her. However, my friend a long time and regular hair and spa client had a different experience. While she was happy with her pedicure, her service was approximately half the time. While finishing up her technician even made a point to explain to my friend that my technician was new therefore slower. Feeling confused and giving my friend's technician the benefit of the doubt we decided to inquire whether my friend was mistakenly booked for an Express Pedicure which is described as a 30 minute service. The main difference between the two is the length of time and a minor difference is you elect a scrub OR lotion. Both reception and the salon manager confirmed my friend received a Signature Spa Pedicure because she had all the listed services and also reiterated that my technician was new, therefore still learning and slower. I equate this to signing up for a 60 minute massage and it only lasting 30 minutes then told because it was full body it was in fact a 60 minute massage even though it lasted 30 minutes. This is upsetting for my friend essentially paid an extra $18 for one extra application and was left sitting half the time while I continued to get pampered. Also when reception checked out us out before we even approached the desk or asking how we'd like to pay. She debited both our credits on file even though my friend intended to treat for my birthday. While I planned on paying for my own service, but they shouldn't assume. Overall I would advise anyone seeking a pedicure to save yourself $18 and opt for an Express Pedicure and apply lotion yourself at the end. To Simply Swank treat your new stylists/trainees AND long time regular customers better. read more

My wife has been going to Simply Swank since their very beginning. I've purchased massages, pedicures and manicures every year for my wife. That has now officially come to an end. My wife on more than one occasion, has had her scheduled appointment cancelled an hour before her scheduled time. Today, they cannot get her before the Christmas holiday, thank you! Simply Swank. My wife was going buy gift cards but instead, told the Simply Swank receptionist, she will go elsewhere. Simply Swank has become so successful they didn't seem to mind losing her years of business and dismissed her. I guess after becoming so successful, you can disregard the people that got you there, your loyal customers from the very beginning. My wife thinks I'm being harsh, but I will never purchase another gift for my wife, or daughter from Simply Swank ever again. Retention! Simply Swank. Between the hair styling and spa services it's a salon and spa where once you've gone you'll not want to go anywhere else. They are an Aveda branded spa. The product is of very high quality. The lower level houses the spa services. It was recently redone in the past year and it's beautiful. They also participate in local charities. Nice to see staff give back to the community while reaching out to customers in a non-influential manner. Just came in for my monthly massage pampering. Would love to leave a review but my son's appointment was cancelled 15minutes before our arrival time of 7pm. Was told my stylist was sick and could finish her last appointment. I was offered a Friday morning appointment but I'm a single mom, working traditional full time. Lost three customers but doubt you care given the lack of customer service. I was referred to Simply Swank by a friend and it was the absolute best haircut I've ever had! I saw Val and she was incredible. She is beyond knowledgeable about curls and coils. She took her time educating me, asking me lots and lots of questions to figure out what I was hoping to do and my long term hair goals. She made sure she addressed all my questions/hair issues. I typically need a few days for my hair to settle after a cut to see how it is, not with this cut. I walked out of the salon absolutely loving what she did. I've been to this salon three times now and I'm so impressed by the professionalism of the staff, the very high quality of the products, and especially the warmth and skill of the stylist (Alyssa Butcher) and her assistant. I went to the salon on short notice after a trauma surgery on Valentine's weekend and I was so impressed with the care and kindheartedness bestowed upon me. Alyssa colored and styled my hair and gave me a makeover because I was unable to use my right arm or hand at all. They were so gentle and helpful. I felt so much better after receiving their service. I had my hair done at Simply Swank two weeks ago while visiting family in Hudson. I had to cancel my hair appointment in Michigan so made an appointment to get my color touched up at Simply Swank. They were kind enough to get me right in! I made an appointment for all over highlights. When I got the the salon they had me down for an all over dye so the stylist told me she wouldn't have time to do my highlights. Thankfully, she made a call and was able to move her next appointment in order to do my hair. I paid $170 for the color and the cut. When I got home, I noticed that my roots were still very dark and the back of my hair looked like no highlights had been put in. I called to see if I could get it fixed. They again were able to get me right in the day I was leaving to go back to Michigan. The stylist only blew dry a small portion of my hair so I could not tell whether it was fixed. When I got back to Michigan my husband said "I thought you were getting your roots touched up?". You honestly can't tell anything was done! I have been getting my hair highlighted for over 15 years and I have never had such a bad experience. I am a teacher and I can only afford to get my hair done once every 8 weeks. I am devastated that I am going to have to pay to get my hair done AGAIN since I am in a wedding in the near future. When I sent my stylist pictures of my hair, she was speechless. Myself and my bridal party all got our wedding hair here. I basically picked Simply Swank because it was a short drive from the hotel we were staying at and the price for up-do styles seemed very reasonable ($65-75 depending on style and time, tip included). I opted to pay for a hair and makeup trial to put myself at ease, and I had to pay for my wedding day hair in advance to reserve all of the needed stylists for myself and my bridesmaids the day of the wedding (FYI). I went for my trial about a month before my wedding and got hair and makeup. The stylist was very easygoing and I felt comfortable right away. She took the time to look at the photos I was wanting to model my hair and makeup after, and she asked along the way if I liked/disliked things she was doing. When I left, I felt like I looked like a jazzed up version of myself without being over done or over the top, which is exactly what I wanted. Two weeks out from my wedding, someone from the salon called and said that the stylist who did my trial and was going to do my hair and makeup on the day of no longer worked there. They offered me another hair and makeup trial with a new stylist free of charge. I was very glad they called and told me about the change because I would've been totally frazzled had I shown up on my wedding morning expecting to see the same stylist, who knew exactly what I wanted, to find it was someone else who was going to just go for it. So I went and my second trial was just as enjoyable, if not more. Come wedding day, my bridesmaids and I showed up to mimosas, fresh fruit cups, and spinach and cheese croissants to start our morning. All complimentary! There were 6 of us getting our hair done and I asked that we be finished by 1 and we were done by 12:15. Everyone got exactly what they wanted after showing pictures and all of the stylist were receptive to input so we all felt comfortable during and beautiful when we left! I would definitely recommend Simply Swank for any bridal hair needs. It was the perfect relaxed start to a hectic day and I left knowing my hair and makeup were wedding ready! read more

I came in for a root touch up and it was $75. BUT i didn't know that i needed to tell the receptionist that I wanted it dried too. I've been coming to Simply Swank for many years. If you add the blow dry its an additional $25. They are no longer a tip free salon. Since I didn't want to leave the salon with sopping wet hair. I was offered to dry it myself. I stayed and dried it. Problem was, the only 2 stations for people who didn't get the memo about the new policy had no lightbulb above the station. The place needs a glow up really bad. Several light bulbs missing, some are yellow and some are white light. Also what is up with the shampoo stations?? If more than 1 person is getting their hair washed, the water fluctuates from ice cold to scalding hot. I tried speaking to the owner about my concerns, but the owner sent another employee out to talk to me because she was 'busy'. Funny because the owner walked past me while i was speaking with the employee and she was talking with other clients. Bizarre. I will not be returning. read more

I fell in love with this salon the minute I entered the door. The experience was so far above that of other salons in the area. The receptionist was welcoming and friendly and offered me an assortment of beverages right away. Secondly, the place is impeccable! It's large and roomy while still managing to feel warm and inviting .lt smells like a mixture of rosemary and tea tree which made me feel like I was at a spa and made me relax right away. The best part though was my stylist, her name is Celeste, and this girl is a miracle worker! I had tried a less friendly salon off the square where I felt rushed and unwelcome a couple months prior and my hair had bleach spots and brassy areas from poorly executed highlights. Celeste not only listened to what I wanted ( dimension and no brass) but she more than delivered! Her work is neat and tidy and her foils were immaculately placed. My hair looks the best it has in 5 years! My highlights are a perfect level 10 platinum with no toner! I am beyond happy to have found her and will be a client for life! Not only is she extremely talented but she's warm, welcoming and makes you feel like family. She takes her time to explain what she's doing and how long it'll take and never makes you feel rushed. My husband gave me a mani-pedi, paraffin dip and 60-minute massage at Simply Swank for Christmas. I finally got to use it recently. The front desk greeting was a little indifferent. After that, everyone working at the salon was extremely nice. My nail technician, Candice, was very friendly. The pedicure was great... very thorough, but not rough or painful. I never get manicures because my nails are very soft and the polish always chips off in 12 hours. Well, I am completely amazed because the manicure I got from Candice is still going strong with no chipping 4 days later. This is a miracle! I have no idea how she did it, but I'm ecstatic about it! The massage was a nice overall relaxing experience. The massage room is nice and the table is heated. The therapist didn't really work my chronic knots and problem spots in the way I am used to when I get a massage, so I probably personally wouldn't return here for that service. But for general relaxation it was good. The employees offered me tea, water, magazines, etc., often and really made an effort to make my visit nice. The one suggestion I would make is that at the really high-end spas that I've been to, the front desk almost seems to know who you are when you walk in the door and they act like they are really happy to see you. They must just take the time to review the day or the next few hours of appointments. I'm even saying the current front desk approach is a problem or I am complaining about it... it's more of an observation. I was all prepared to leave tips at the front desk upon leaving when I was informed that they are a no-tip salon. I felt a combination of guilty and happy about this. I've been coming to Simply Swank for probably 10 years now and have only positive things to say about the atmosphere, offerings, stylists and service! My last visit was no exception! I came in a bit unsure of what I wanted. All I knew for sure was that it needed some serious length taken off. I had read on the website that they do Lock for Love cuts and it sparked my interest. Normally my hair isn't so long, but I had grown it out for my wedding. Before mentioning it was even an option for me I asked my stylist what she thinks would look good. She recommended collar bone length. Which made me think a few more inches wouldn't hurt so I asked about the donation. Jackie immediately lite up at that option but was for sure not pushy in any way!! In the end I decided to do it. Jackie gave me a great cut that looks cute and I can feel good about. I was looking for an Aveda Salon. At first, I had my hair trimmed only. Then I went in the second time for a cut and highlights. I called to get pricing ahead of time. But the actual charges were much higher, $50.00 over the original price. And the haircut was a hair snip. She snipped off a few loose ends and sent me on my way. The highlights were good, but the bill threw me for a whirl. I called the Manager and they tried to make this pricing issue right, after a few voicemails. They gave me a few dollars off the total. Idea for a better experience: Create a menu showing exact pricing. The brochure shows the lowest possible price for the highlights. I found out afterwards that each Stylist charges something different. I will not go back because of this. I have never had this happen before at any other Salon. read more

Best Cuts quality at top shelf prices! I have only been to this salon twice. The first time was for a styling for a wedding. The style was decent (I was given a shirly temple type style and was in my late twenties.), but the price tag was high. The second time was for a perm. A friend suggested I try the salon, despite the pricing. Her thought was I get my hair done so rarely, it would be worth the money to "invest" in a really well done perm. However, there are sections of hair at the top of my head that are straight or nearly so, although the lower portion is VERY curly. My forehead scabbed over in several places where the stylist chemically burned my skin. Some of my hair was chemically singed off at the hair line in the front and back, so I can look forward to regrowth spikes. I made two phone calls to the salon (once I called after hours and left a message). I was told the stylist would call me. When she did, she gave several reasons why these things might have occurred: an old coloring (I had a consultation a week prior to the appointment to ensure my hair was in appropriate condition for a perm and was told my hair was fine.), the way I am styling it, and the need for a hair cut (to invigorate my several-day-old perm). Some additional items of concern: * I was charged separately for a perm and hair cut. I have had several perms in the past. This is the first time I have experienced such a practice. * The bill was not itemized. I know the final price, but not what each item cost. There is a booklet of services that lists prices, but some of the costs are marked "starting at [such and such price]" (I know the cut is separate, because it occurred on a different day.) read more

When I get a shellac manicure by any of the girls, it usually lasts at least 3 weeks. And I love how tip is included in the price. Katie and Candice also give great pedis - you can't beat them. This is the worst experience have had!!! I have the salon 3 chances to give me the hair cut I wanted and I thought I finally found the person. I was so wrong. I had the girl color my hair and then went back a month later to see if it was ok to go lighter. She stated it was fine. She out on the chemicalsand left it in thebdor almost two hours. She did check back like an hour after she first out it in then again 30-35 minutes later. My appointment was at 2:15 I was early and she took me back right away. It was around 2:20 when she applied the chemicals and almost 4 when she took me to the rinse bowl. During this period I could smell ammonia. Here she was adding more checmicals to color my hair because I guess she noticed spots. After that at about 4 she started cutting my hair. I notice she was cutting it much shorter than the picture I was showing her. She never said any except your hair is so healthy keep it that way. When I left and got home I showered later and washed my hair when I realized as I towel drying it that hair that was colored the first time was falling out. When I contacted the salon the manager stated that is noramal when you go that light. Well it would have been nice if she would have told me becaus by no circumstances would I have put my hair at that risk. After taking to the GM I received San email stating she had talked to the other manager and owner and since I turned down the treatments they wanted to give me they would not compensate me in any others means and wishes me good lunch where ever I choose to go. What a sad way to treat a customers that have them 4 chances to keep my business. Why would I want to go back to a place that burnt my hair down to less than a half an inch rim my scalp. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They never even told me that there were options of choosing a stylists with more education and training. read more

After recently moving, I was nervous about finding a new place to get a quality hair cut, but the positive reviews lead me here, and I was not disappointed. Stylist Tatum was gentle and skilled at cleaning up (but not drastically changing) the existing style that I wanted to maintain. The Aveda products that she used made my hair feel clean and smooth, without looking overly gooped up. The whole experience was relaxing and drama-free. No one tried to aggressively push buying more products, nor are you permitted to tip. Rather, in lieu of gratuities, you are supposed to pass on the positive referrals, which I happily share in this forum. My one suggestion? The owner should allow the stylists to have their names and short bios on the salon's website, so that credit can be given where credit is due! read more

I've been going to Simply Swank since last fall and have always been extremely satisfied with all the services I've received and stylists I've had. However, for the first time, I was unhappy with tone of the highlights I got done about a week ago and called to see if I could possibly get something done that I was more satisfied with. I've NEVER gone back to a salon and had a "redo", so this was a first for me. I loved my cut and the highlights were done perfect, but the color was a little off for me. NEVER AGAIN! I have been to this salon several occasions for hair services, including cut and color, with a different stylist each time. I have never left happy with my results. Not once. But I kept going back because I prefer Aveda products and this is my local salon. I just went to get my bangs cut and was very adamant when communicating with the stylist that I wanted them to be long and tapered and she immediately cut them at least an inch if not 2 inches too short!!! I am absolutely devastated after growing my bangs out for two years, I can't believr she wasn't more cautious. Quality of a French manicure not great

Amazing! Highly recommended! I went here for an ombre, where it goes from dark at the top to light at the bottom.I had Halle as my stylist. She was fantastic! She did a very thorough consultation with me. She looked at the picture I had brought in and discussed what would work for my hair. The technique she used was something I had not seen before and the results were exactly what I wanted. They are very knowledgeable and trained on the most up to date trends and styles. I've visited this salon two times and I have never been impressed. The facilities are nice and they offer a wide range of services, but the prices are higher than other local competitors. My main complaint is that I've never been happy with the outcome of my hair; the ladies (and I have seen two different ones) did a sub-par job at best, which is disappointing consider how much I spent.
