Instead of Simply Thai, one can descibe my experience with them as "Simply Average." To be honest, the Pad See Ew dish that I ordered was below average in taste. Very slow service!!!We been there on a usual day and were disappointed. We have been there on Valentines day and they have spoiled the evening !!! First they do not want to seat people and keep them waiting for 10 min even though they had couple of tables ready !!! After keeping their customers waiting and standing in cold at the door they make them seat at the tables which were available for past 20 mins.. I was wondering if they have a procedure rule to make guest stand for 15-20 mins and then give them a table irrespective of availability of the table.. Second thing , the waiter was on his own.... He does not want to serve us what we want. There was no paper napkin.. They take oder from you after a long while and tend to forget you... until you remind them couple of times of your order. Then one of orders would come and other is still forgotten .. You finish eating one main entree and wait for other to arrive.. aahhh you have to remind them .... and they do not want to stand and listen to what you are asking for !!!! Then one of the dishes was very bland!! not salt and spice !!! Finally the second dish comes with all the spice they have.. it was so spicy that you can eat it !!! I would have cooked at home and had a special candle light dinner than coming to this restaurant !!! It was ridiculously disgusting!! We asked for tofu in one of dishes and we were charged double for that dish !! We paid almost double the price without prior notice. With better service, I would have ignored it and would have tipped them better .. Dont visit this place if you do not want to spoil your evening. And carry warm clothes if this is last option in the world and you wanted to try this place ... coz you would need it during the wait outside and inside too for 3-4 tables near the door as people waiting for seats get so restless to open and close the door number of times. Food: Their food was okay. This is one of your typical Tau restaurants where they charge fairly high pricing for a small serving. I tried their angel wings andit was a little dry. The yellow curry was decent. It's hard to mess that up. The chicken satay was decent too and so was their pad thai. The dish that i liked the most was their basil beef. It had the perfect amount of spice but the tenderness is was caught my attention. I highly recommend their basil beef. Excellent dish! Service: It was pretty bad. We were there on a Thursday night after the rush and there were only 4 tables that were occupied. With the 4 tables, no one checked up on our ways until the 3rd round. We kept getting approached with the wrong food. It was a mess. Ambiance: Decent decor. Nothing extravagant but good for an intimate meal. All in all, there are better Thai restaurants in the area where you'll feel like you're getting what you pay for. I'll be reviewing them soon. Best Thai food in the Bay, I drive all the way out from Cupertino for the amazing eats! Scrumptiuos crab fried rice! Awesome yellow, red, & green curries, thai iced tea to die for. And I absolutely love ending it with fried bananas and coconut ice cream! The service is spot on, and the owners, Menny and Eddy, thank you personally for coming! Small place in a strip mall and very good food. We were staying at Aloft hotel near by and since they have no restaurant they recommended this place. Great service, the two lady servers were great. I had the calamari and bamboo shoot and it was great. I am visiting from LA, but if I come here again I would stop by for sure. read more

The servers are not very friendly they don't bring the drinks that you order (and sometimes still charge you for them, so make sure you check the bill) and the food comes out slow. I went here for lunch a couple days ago with my girlfriend. My first impression is that it was really busy. Looks like a place for people who work around the area to come for a quick lunch. When we got there, we weren't greeted at all. We waited for a few minutes, a couple of guys dressed in suits comes in and the waiter immediately asked how many for their table, the guys told them that we were here first and then finally they told us to sit down. When we sat down, the waitress was very grumpy, she didn't bring us a menu until we asked. She spilled some water on the table and just left it there through out our whole meal. After hearing otherwise good reviews regarding the food here, my brother and I attempted to give it a shot for lunch. After having been sat, the only waiter on the floor was busy taking care of other tables, mostly running credit card transactions, and helping a few other guests with take out orders and pretty soon, twenty minutes have passed by without him actually having taken our order. There were three, maybe four, other tables at the establishment at the time and a couple of other guests there for pick up. After realizing that my brother and I weren't on the server's mind, we left to go to a different place as we were under a time constraint. I think they need to staff better and provide either another server, or add someone that solely takes care of Togo orders. Especially when it's an anticipated busy shift such as a weed at lunch. read more

I've had lunch here a couple times because their green beans with cashews is tasty. However, this last visit was just horrible. The service was awful since the moment we arrived except for when my boyfriend ordered beer. We had to take extra napkins from the table next to us, they didn't have the appetizers we ordered, took forever to bring our food. Mind you, the place only had two other parties of 3 people that were already done eating. The waitress never asked if we wanted more water or anything else to drink. We had 1 appetizer, 1 salad and 2 entrees with an extra order of rice. There were no spices or soy sauce available on the table either. Not sure if it was because it was too early in the morning but they just seemed unprepared or ready to be open. The waitress also seemed to have an attitude because we kept asking for things but it wasn't available. I also felt like getting up and pouring myself some water since the pitcher was right behind us. This location does not have designated parking. We normally park down the street in the residential area which is also difficult to find. Located at the back corner of the Raley's shopping center, Simply Thai is a welcome change from the mostly mediocre fare in this area. The food is consistently very good without having to rely upon the flaming hot disguise strategy that many Thai restaurants rely upon to cover for marginal ingredients or recipes (Ahem-My Thai). In addition, decor is surprisingly nice for a strip mall. The only reason I don't give Simply Thai 5 stars is the service drop off is pretty precipitous when it is more than about half full. They typically appear to have only 1 server with the owner/hostess/cashier person chipping in as available/needed. I went once when it was very crowded (2 groups waiting outside) a few months after they opened and had to ask the busboy (I think he was a family member that was mentally challenged) for water 3 times before he showed up with a pitcher with no ice in it, 30 minutes after the initial request. When you have 3 VERY spicy dishes on the table, having no water when your lips catch fire and beads of perspiration are dripping down your forehead, seems like a life or death moment, at the time. A friend was in town and staying near the shopping center where Simply Thai is. He had been there earlier in the week and said he can't get thai food this good in San Diego. So, we met for dinner. I started with a spicy salad with calamari. The calamari was very tender and not chewy at all. This was a very good starter and the spice level was just right. My friend and I split the Pad Thai and the Shrimp Chu Chee. The Pad Thai was excellent. The Shrimp Chu Chee is a new dish to me. It's prawns and basil leaves in a curry and peanut sauce. Very well done and something I would order again and again. I'll add that the service, decor, and ambience were good. The wait staff was very courteous and very helpful in explaining their dishes. However, I think they need to hire more waitresses because they have slow service. Before everything, I want to say that their dishes are very tiny small. Yellow curry is the one that tastes a little bit sweeter than others(red and green). Size on this one is OK, but it is just too PLAIN. I ONLY SEE CHICKEN AND POTATO IN CURRY SAUCE. I used to see more stuff such as onion, carrot, and bell pepper at other Thai restaurant. Just because of their size, we added one more curry order, it is called Panang Curry Chicken. For this one, It is just a regular panang curry taste, but there is only very little sauce. And the chicken breast is so rough. Their service is very slow. They only have two waitresses, and they are not professional. They don't check your glass and see if you need refill. They don't give you napkin if you do not ask for, and they work slow. My go to Thai Food place for about 8 years. When I lived in Union City, my BF and  I would come so often that  the servers  knew us, our order and we had a regular seat. We normally get: Thai tea, Satay Chicken Pad Thai, Crab fried rice, panang chicken or yellow/red curry, and if in season, mango sticky rice. If it's your first time here, you can't go wrong with the crab fried rice. It's soooooo good. Lately, we have been just ordering the food from DoorDash when we're at my parents house in UC to hit two birds with one stone. Our most recent experience was terrible. Our server was forgot our order TWICE. We got all our food except our Pad Thai, and so we decided "ok fine let's just take it to go. We can eat it the next day." Then she forgets our mango sticky rice. But gave us the bill and removed it. Didn't even ask if we still wanted it.. and truthfully we still wanted it. The thing that bothers me the most about this experience is the lady who served us was not the one who apologized or accomodated us at all. It was actually this other girl who was really sweet and tried to troubleshoot for her.
