IN THIS ECONOMY??? hell nah. i've never been truly disappointed but the food is obviously quite mid, not mid enough to get 3 stars though. service is okay! located in the plaza near to crackhead center (mcdonalds) and others. easy to find parking, seating not bad i guess spring rolls - good! in an average way. peanut sauce is good but a bit watery and salty. rolls were not like fat but also not malnourished so i suppose that's a good thing. nonetheless i chowed it down because i eat whatever is in front of me 8/10 house special vermicelli bowl - had some shrimp which had no taste aka devoid of flavor! that's pretty crazy in a vietnamese restaurant. pork was kinda burnt, flavor on point. not enough nuoc cham, lots of veggies. despite its flaws the bowl is good and hits pretty hard when you're constipated 7/10 overall this place is around 3.5 stars. if they fail me ONCE i will drop it to like 3 idk. sometimes mid food hits the hardest because you always know what to expect! read more

Don't eat here- & if you do, helpfully they get your order right. Service was so bad they got me here writing this review as a warning to you. They don't even deserve 1 star. My partner called in two orders of chicken pho soup to-go. We were working from home with a sick child, so he rushed to pick up the order on his lunch. When about to eat, we discover they gave us 2 orders of beef pho soup in error. We're short on time so it's annoying & inconvenient, but no big deal, we'll just call them & surely they will make it right. WRONG. The lady employee said to come back & she'd give us the right order & throw in an extra soup. Given our time constraints for work, we were not able to go back in that moment. We asked if they could door dash the correct order to us. NO was the answer. Just give us a refund, since we don't eat beef & can't go back right now. Lady TOLD US SHE COULDNT GIVE US A REFUND. "WE DONT DO THAT" she said. I work with credit card machine so I know she could indeed give us a refund without the card present, but maybe she meant as a policy they do not. She kept insisting we go back in that moment to get the correct order even after repeatedly telling her we couldn't. It was not an option for us with work meetings & a sick child. She then told us to come back later if we couldn't go now. With gas prices so high, this was just impractical. After spending 10 mins on the phone with the lady who wouldn't accommodate us, I told my partner we would file a credit card complaint & will eat the soup without the meat because we had no other food readily & had to feed our sick child. In the afternoon, my partner decided he would drive there instead of filing a complaint, high gas prices & all. We call the lady again to let her know. SHE ASKS US TO BRING HER THE WRONG FOOD ORDER FROM EARLIER. Are you serious??? This is the first time she mentioned this to us. We took pics earlier & could show her as proof, but we explained we had eaten the soup BECAUSE WE NEEDED TO EAT LUNCH, but could bring her the beef, but it was just so petty & gross (HOPEFULLY THEY WERENT GOING TO SERVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE 6 HOURS LATER????), I was outraged but kept my cool. I asked for her manager. She said the manager was not there. Again I asked for a refund, she insisted we bring her back the food. The conversation was so petty my partner told me to forget about taking her the old food, he didn't trust they wouldn't tamper with his new food at this point. I told the lady that we would be filing a credit card complaint to get our money back. She said "okay" and hung up. No apology. In fact, she never apologized for the ordeal. When this has happened with other restaurants they have made things right, EASILY. Which is what PHO MAMA should have done. Never going back again. We only went cus Red Chili in Hayward is currently closed. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Not to mention I'm still hungry cus that soup without meat was not filling. Even though the meat on the rice plate was thinnly sliced and sparse, but considering it included shrimps, a fried egg and less than $20, what more could you ask for. Pho Mama is located in the Union Square Marketplace. There is plenty of shared parking in this lot. This spot always seems decently busy, so we always order ahead of time for pick up, so it is ready to go when we get there. Service is eh, could had been way better. I ordered their vermicelli bowl with chicken and egg rolls - I wanted to add an egg and they do not state if there is an egg for this item, but in the photo on the ordering platform, the photo has an egg, a bit confusing and I was not sure if it comes with an egg, so I left a note. There was an option to call me to notify me about it if they cannot accommodate, so I selected that option after leaving the note - I was not given an egg (I did not check until we left and went back to my friend's house), but we were not notified either. I was willing to pay extra, if needed too. The chicken and vermicelli was pretty dry, even with the sauce that comes with it. The egg rolls were the best thing on my plate. Pretty pricey too for what you get. With so many pho spots in the area, there are definitely better options for the price. read more

Unfortunately, the service and quality have really declined. On my last visit to Pho Mama, I ordered over the phone and arrived 10-15 minutes later, as advised, to pick up my food. The cashier looked for my order but couldn't find it. After five minutes of discussion among themselves, they realized they had given my order to the previous pickup customer. They called the person and asked them to bring it back. Then, they told me I would need to wait for them to return so I could get my food. I told them I could wait, but I would not be taking food that had left the restaurant. I had no idea if the person had opened it, picked at it, or what had happened while it was out of the restaurant. I try not to be too picky about these things. If the person had still been in the restaurant and the bag looked intact, I would have taken it. However, since I had no clue what happened to the food while it was gone, I asked them to make a fresh order. They did not seem happy about that. I understand that waste is a concern, but customers' health and time should be a greater priority. I got my food 10 minutes later. At this point, I had been there for at least 20 minutes, plus the 15 minutes I had already waited after placing my order. Once I got home, the food was mediocre--nothing special. I used to love this place, and it was one of my favorites, but their pho has not been great lately. They have been adding lettuce instead of the usual veggies, and the broth has been bland. In an age of Bay Area Vietnamese Restaurants charging $19+ for a bowl of Pho or Vermicelli, Pho Mama stands out from the crowd! The dishes are very reasonably priced and quite flavorful and tasty! I ordered a Vermicelli with Grilled Chicken & Egg rolls. It was filled with super fresh vegetables, perfectly charred chicken, and accompanied by a small bowl of the most perfectly balanced Fish Sauce dressing. The egg rolls were also freshly fried, warm, and flavorful. If I were to change one thing, I'd add a touch more chicken to the bowl, but for the price, I'm happy with what I got! I went with my go-to order of bun bo hue during my first visit, and while the bowl seemed big, there weren't as many noodles as I would have liked and the portions seemed a little low for the price point. The flavors were decent albeit on the spicier side (which I sometimes crave). It wasn't very busy when I went but there was plenty of seating and the wait staff seemed to be handling all tables with ease. Food came out quickly, and you pay at the front as in most Vietnamese restaurants. Next time I'll try the pho and see if that merits a higher rating. My mouth is drooling as I recall my first slurp of that delicious noodle, that first spoonful of mouth watering spicy broth that flooded my taste buds. The broth was steaming hot. Every spoonful was straight umami left and right, it felt as if there were fireworks going off in my mouth. Flavor was just bouncing right and left, up and down, side to side. Consistently good Vietnamese food open 7 days a week. They are located in the same large plaza as McDonalds on Decoto and there is plenty of parking. It is our current go-to spot for local Vietnamese with the best quality and flavor we've found. If you order takeout the takeout packaging is always immaculate and well organized. Bun Bo Hue: My wife orders this 100% of the time. The broth is beef based but with fermented shrimp paste for an interesting savory and umami flavor. The origin city from Vietnam also created a lot of dishes for the Vietnamese Royal Court. Rice noodles are thicker like Udon and comes with plenty of toppings, it beats the BBH from some places in East San Jose and Little Saigon so worth getting it you like spicy broths. Bun Rieu: Beef based broth with tomatoes and crab, the flavor is really good though I haven't repeated it again because the egg crab cakes are much smaller and less quantity than Mai's Kitchen. The past few months Pho mama has become my 2nd favorite doordash pho restaurant because my usual go to is not always open. But fairly recently I walked in for a pick up for the first time and saw the restaurant and interacted with the staff. Sorry to say, nothing really to note there - just your usually pho restaurant in a strip mall. The food however is good. The combination pho ($13.50) has a good broth and is very decent sized (even for take out). My personal favorite is the special spicy beef noodle (bun bo hue) that is not available at many pho restaurants in East Bay (easier to find in South bay). The spices were great, and broth is not spicy, but flavorful. And because of this dish alone, it has become my regular pho take out if my usual is not open. Lastly the eggroll appetizer ($7.50) is so good. I like the small size and filling. If you enjoy Vietnamese egg rolls, you should try this. read more

Came in at 6pm, on my break from work. I ordered three dishes. Two riceplates and one chow mein dish. The one rice plate, I was going to eat there and the other two dishes I was taking home. As I'm waiting, one of the waitresses comes to me and ask me to pay now. I go to the counter and say that I can pay now, but I want to know why. She said I ordered a lot of food and I was alone, and a lot of people order food and eat and leave without paying. A single diner, ordering three items, albeit two were to take home, is a red flag for them. I asked them if they asked the other couple eating pho, if they asked them to pay now. She said they were regulars. This is not the first time I've been here, but it's been at least ten years. I told her that I will pay, but I will not leave a tip. I explained to her that what she did, asking me to pay first, is insulting, demeaning and profiling. I don't know what profile a youngish senior Asian woman with a bad knee fits, but that's me. I surely will have a hard time literally eating and running. I told her I would complain vehemently. Another patron, who came in after me, a lone diner as well, was not asked to pay first. He only ordered a bowl of pho. I told him what happened and he said he would talk to them. He even said that I was in my work uniform and clearly was employed and work for a state agency.
