Stuff we got: Soup we got was enough for 2 people $7.95. Veggie curry soup - it was ok, nothing special. Portion was on the small side. Pad See Ew $7.95 - I asked for more egg & broccoli instead of meat, it didn't look like more just the same amount. bogus. Fat rice noodles I liked & the dish was fine overall. Kaang Khew Whan Puck $7.95 - spicy veggie curry. It wasn't spicy enough for us, so we had to ask for the little dishes of spices to add on. Nothing special. Brown Rice $1.75 - It's a dark red/brown rice - tasted fine. Thai ice tea $2.50 - slightly larger than the water glass, not happy with the portion. Tasted fine, just not enough for the price. As someone who loves thai food, Simply Thai is a go-to for me! As a frequent customer for multiple years, the food and customer service never disappoints. The waiters are all really friendly and food usually is ready rather quickly, plus the restaurant itself has a nice ambience to dine in. My favorite dish is their pad see ew/ pad kee mao-- they're always cooked really well and the food is great at hitting the right spice levels, and I also really love their Tom Kha Gai soup. At first glance, I was disappointed by volume of entree, but it's a lunch special, so I really shouldn't expect more. Also, we took our food to-go and they needed it to fit in the small soup container. I ordered the Mussamun Curry (beef in coconut milk, potatoes and peanuts) with medium spice. My coworker ordered the Yellow Curry Chicken. No matter which Thai place we go to, that's her order. My curry dish was ok, the price was reasonable and the guy who waited on me was super friendly. Simply Thai was simply simple. Haha. I stopped by on a busy lunch day having some time to grab quality food with my beau. We were seated quickly and handed menus. The lunch specials were plentiful and a really good deal! For about 8 dollars each it came with spring rolls. rice, salad and your entree. I opted for the sautéed chicken with peanut sauce and the pad see ew with pork. It took around 20 minutes but everything came out piping hot. The plates were clean and the presentation of the food was presentable. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes you feel absolutely relaxed for the lunch hour- though the decorations could be more cheery. Our Thai teas weren't overly sweet and nicely sitting on ice which diluted into the sweetness perfectly. The sautéed chicken was so delicious- on a skewer with a flattened piece of chicken gently grilled and charred with a dipping peanut sauce that finished off all the flavors together. It wasn't dry but moist and easily peeled off the stick. My dish wasn't overly greasy nor was it dried outs! Great balance of veggies and meat and noodles- and the waiter was a funny man who did dances and easily forgot things- but treated all customers with a simple and apologetic for his mistakes. Quick and great place to grab lunch and big enough for larger parties. I love that its in a plaza which meant lots of parking! It was really clean inside and had bathrooms. They also take credit cards and have super comfortable seats. The employees here are super attentive and make you feel like a regular, even when you're not. I really enjoy the quiet atmosphere here (pre-covid), it's just right for a weeknight out. I'm not a regular here however because I find their prices to be a smidge higher than other Thai places and the flavors of the dishes I order tend to be a bit on the mild side. To be fair, their dishes are consistent so I do know what to expect when I visit. Sorry I can't write much more about Simply Thai as it's not exactly my favorite Thai spot. I prefer a saucier pad thai and this place just so happens to make it more mild and less saucy. It could be that the flavors are found more in the meat and seafood used and I don't get to experience that since I only get tofu. Anyway, I would still give this place a try since it's a nice little spot conveniently located near the freeway. I like this Thai restaurant. The staff is very nice and the food is pretty good. You get a lot for what you pay for at lunch; I have not gone here for dinner though and will try it one day. The menu is not as big as other Thai restaurants that I have come across but as long as the food is good, I am ok with it. I usually go there during work lunch and the rice meals are under $9. It comes with a good portion of their dish with rice, an egg roll and a free vegetable soup broth given before the meal. The spice I get are usually medium spiced and are all very good. I usually get chicken, beef and pork red curry depending on my meal. I like their pad thai as well. The only thing why I dock two points off is that I have been going here many years and usually they are always delayed serving their food. They are always low staffed. The second is that they always forget something you ordered and have to tell them more than once. This is the closest Thai restaurant to work and the food is good but will probably still come here so I usually expect to wait. I try to go before the crowd comes. read more

I stopped by during the week during the Christmas holidays and the restaurant was about half full at 6pm. We shared the pad thai, pad kee mao, and pad see ew, which are different types of noodle dishes. The pad thai was my favorite-- the other two dishes were a bit lacking in flavor. The chicken (you can choose your protein) in each dish felt very dry and bland. I would have preferred the dishes to arrive hotter. The pad thai noodles were a bit too wet for my liking, and the sauce I could probably best describe as akin to a light ketchup. If I were to come back, I'd get this again, but only because I didn't particularly enjoy the other two. Tofu in this was also pretty bland. There was a sprinkling of peanut shavings to the side-- I would have preferred this to be mixed in. 3.3/5. The pad kee mao ("drunken noodle", wide rice noodles flavored with oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, and accompanied by bean sprouts and basil) was really light on the sauce, and basil, for that matter. This was accompanied by little crowns of broccoli, which were cooked tender. More sauce would have helped the dish stand out. 3/5. The pad see ew (a Chinese-influenced wide rice noodles flavored with soy sauce) had a 50/50 mix of veggies and noodles. The veggie mix consisted of a stir fry mix of your typical onion, carrots, and bell peppers, thinly sliced. More sauce would have helped on this dish as well, and the heavy veggie amount felt a bit out of place. 3/5. For 3 people, ~$40 including tip isn't that bad in today's restaurant scene, but I'd still rather eat healthier and more delicious things at home. Service was typical. read more

When walking in the restaurant was very cramped. There were two other groups ahead of us and my husband and I were like half way out the door. There were only TWO waitresses...super understaffed. We came at 7pm and was not greeted all. Then later someone came to ask us to write down our own name on the clip board...smh** I first noticed something when I walked into the restaurant, a table was not cleaned up until CLOSING time! They need to hire more people... The waitress gave us a glass of water and there were lip stick mark on the cup. I wanted to ask her if we can have another cup of water but instead she talked over me and said "there is lemon in there". I don't have a problem with the lemon. I know it's busy but when a customer call for a waitress it's because we wanted something, listen first before cutting off a customer. Agree?? After that, we decided to ask for some straws. I asked three times and she kept forgetting to give me straws. My husband asked for them and she brought them over. I wasn't being rude or anything. My husband thinks it's because I have a soft voice and I needed to be more projective to get their attention. Lol! The last thing that we asked the waitress was for some lemon for the Pad Thai. We are from LA and we eat Pad Thai with lemon (provided with the dish). So I am used to eating Pad Thai with lemon. When my husband asked for some lemon, the waitress expression was indescribable and said "WHAT!??". I thought that was rude given by the the face expression and comment. The same waitress was running around in the restaurant. They need help! Hopefully their owner/manager would hire people. They shouldn't leave a messy table for that long...7pm to 9pm is a very long time and we were sitting right next to it. Overall, the customer service did not go that well. However the food was BOMB! We've been here in the Bay Area for over a year now, this is the first delicious Thai place we've encountered yet. We haven't explore much but we were in Newark so just decided to try a new place. We got the Tom Kha Cai (?) Pot, Tofu Fried Rice, Pad Thai, and a bowl of rice (for the Tom Kha Cai). Another issue happened was, when she brought out the Tom Kha Cai, we asked if she can bring out the rice so we can have rice with our soup. Guess what??? She forgot our rice so we ate our soup without rice. And when she finally brought the rice to us, waaaayyyyyy later, we finished the soup with rice, COLD. At first I thought it was weird when she brought out the pot, there wasn't a stone in there to keep the soup warm. Other Thai places have the stone for the fire but not this place???? The price of their menu is reasonable and affordable. I hope in the future they would have more staff so that the customer service would improve and a pleasant place to enjoy meals. Small restaurant, clean and nice interior decors. We came here for dinner on Saturday night. There was only 3-4 other tables, so they seated us very quickly. We had to wait for 20mins before the waitress came and took our order. Then 20mins later, she came by and refilled our water. She asked: did you order yet? We were like: uhhhh, you took our order. So, another 20mins went by and still no food. We had to wait for 40mins before our salad arrived. Extremely slow service! We ordered Thai ice tea, but it never came. We asked our waitress again. She asked: how many do you want? Wow, didn't she take down our order??? Anyhow, food was ok. We ordered chicken spicy fried rice, chicken pad thai, and yum woon sen (silver noodles salad). My husband liked all 3 dishes, I liked pad Thai and woon sen salad, but our son didn't any dishes. Prices were right, but portions were a little small. Poor service, asked to to take my order several times, but felt ignored and they kept cleaning tables while I waited. Finally gave my order and waited over 20 minutes for a lunch special and there were only a few customers at 1:30. I had to ask a couple times where is my order as I noticed other customers that came in after me already received their meals. My lunch had a cold fried spring roll which is supposed to be hot, the salad barely had a dab of dressing, I asked both severs for some extra, which didn't come until I asked again and was almost done. I was polite, but feeling very ignored and disappointed. There was barely any meat in the green curry as well. The portions were very small for the price. This used to be a favorite Thai place, but the last few visits have been disappointing in both service and food. This was probably my last time. read more

My partner and I had the most wonderful meal tonight. Our favorite Thai Restaurant closed in Fremont. We bee of Simply Thai but lived in Fremont. This is now our new go to. Writing this review as a warning to other people going to eat there. I was initially not going to write a review, but after reading others reviews with the same problem I need to tell people to beware. I went one afternoon to this restaurant and ordered a shrimp plate, i then lifted one of the shrimp and rotated it to inspect the quality only to find a mosquito at the bottom. Being that mosquitos carry a lot of diseases I was angered that this happened. I was compensated for my meal, but I am still concerned for others eating there. I will most likely not go back but please be careful and check your food! read more

One of my family's favorite Thai places! My mom and I get take out or come by at least once or twice a month - Simply Thai is family owned so I often see the family in the restaurant. They have 2 sons - both super friendly and will help out around the restaurant from time to time. I think one of them is in college in NY currently. On weekdays, there are tons of take-out orders, but usually no line to eat during lunch or dinner. They do have lunch specials, and I've noticed a lot of people who work nearby will come during lunch for those lunch specials. They are a couple dollars cheaper than the normal entree, and they do give the same amount as they would for dinner. Occasionally during dinner time, there will be a line. Usually on Friday's or weekends. On weekdays, I have not experienced too much waiting. There is no yelp waitlist or paper waitlist usually; just let the host/waitress know how many people, and he/she will seat you as soon as possible. My absolute favorite is their pad kee mow (drunken noodles). I've tried pad kee mow elsewhere (sala thai, king of thai, banh thai) but I have not found another thai restaurant that does not provide ground meat in their pad kee mow. I love the solid chunks of meat in my pad kee mow, and Simply Thai incorporates that!! They give you the option of four meats: chicken, beef, shrimp, veggie (tofu). To my understanding, beef and shrimp are extra charge. I think beef is $1 extra, and shrimp might be $1.25, but not 100% sure. They also allow you to choose how spicy you want your noodles to be: none, mild, medium, fire, thai hot. And if the noodles aren't spicy enough, they can offer chilis on the side for you to add yourself. It comes with jalapenos, a chili paste, a chili sauce and a powder. I love how great the customer service is when it comes to customizing your meal or asking for extras on the side! Portions are huge - I used to not be able to even finish half of the plate of noodles, but now I've trained myself to finish the entire thing in one sitting. I love the thick noodles (not the thin ones they use for pad thai), it's like the noodles used for chow fun at chinese places. Another one of our favorites is the pineapple fried rice. I don't think I've ordered the pineapple fried rice recently, but it is definitely a great dish. It comes with cashews and pineapples, as well as raisins, which offers a mix of sweet and sour flavors~ Favorite dessert is their mango sticky rice. I love ordering this when mangos are in season, otherwise the mangos might be a little sour! Sweet mangos with sticky rice are delicious !! Their Thai Iced tea is also really good ! They use genuine tea and half & half which you mix yourself :) I've tried their other location at Fremont Auto Mall/Pacific Commons, but I definitely prefer this Newark/Fremont location. Never got water, until we had to ask for them. We were met with a server who gave us attitude and was super rude. She never asked if our food was ok or if we needed anything. At the end of the visit while we were getting ready to leave the serve had the audacity to come up to our group and say "you ate here, so where's tip?" I left very angry with service, but left even more furious because I was expected to leave a tip for absolutely no service other then bringing the food to the table. This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area. Their food is usually pretty consistent although I do think that they changed owners recently. But I got the mussamun curry medium and was slightly disappointed it wasn't the spice level I was expecting so next time maybe I'll go higher up. The flavors in the curry were very strong and the beef was sooo tender I was surprised. Usually I'm hesitant about even getting meat in my Thai dishes since it's usually really dry anyway, but I was pleasantly surprised ! My family each got their own dishes and we shared a pineapple fried rice. Very good. For dessert mango and sticky rice of course! They didn't out too much condense milk in the rice so it wasn't as sweet as I hoped, but still delicious. We went around 6pm on a Saturday and got pretty lucky since there wasn't a wait but it got pretty crowded after that. My GF and I are always on the lookout for the next good Thai spot. This place is near her work, so I took her to lunch so I could try it out. We ordered by phone on the way and they told us our food would be ready in 20 mins. We ended up only having to wait about 10 or 15 mins which was pretty cool because it was lunchtime and they had a considerable amount of diners. We both ordered the panang chicken lunch special which was around ten bucks. It came with rice (steamed or fried) and a small salad with really good peanut Thai dressing. The actual panang chicken was excellent. The sauce was flavored perfectly! Not too spicy, just hot enough. I'm not too versed on the actual ingredients of Thai food but it had a really yummy and subtle curry taste. I can't wait to go have lunch again at Simply Thai so I can try another dish! read more

This place is horrible! I drove from work in Menlo Park and this place was on my way home, another 30 minutes away. I ordered what I normally get at a Thai restaurant. I explicitly said MILD. When I got home to serve it to my husband, I tasted it and I felt like flames were coming from my mouth! The soup was so bland and the curry was on fire. I was so upset! When I called, that wanted me to bring it back! Another 30 minute drive! So now, I am here again after work, I brought the food back that I had to carry in my car all day long. The 3 of us came and they ordered the food. We barely made the 2:30pm cut off closing on New Year's eve. The food came all at once since the kitchen was ready to close. Simply Thai is simply amazing! My friends and I came in around 5:30 and the place was still empty, so we got seated really quickly. Within 10 minutes of being there the restaurant started to fill up. Our waitresses were very fast to get us drinks and ask if we had any questions about the menu. We ordered a ton of food because we wanted to get a little extra for second day leftovers. I was thoroughly surprised to see they had an extensive vegetarian menu. I was very excited because many of the items on their vegetarian menu could easily be made vegan. I got the Veg. Fresh Spring Rolls, Fried Spring Rolls, Pad Thai Jay (no egg), yellow curry potato (mild) &!a side of rice. Their portions are decently sized for the price. Just FYI, the minimum curry spice level is mild and that's actually pretty spicy! My friends got the crab fried rice, catfish and yellow chicken curry (mild) with a side of rice. They loved their food and finished it all in one sitting! They totally recommend the crab fried rice and curry. The service was great and the food was just as great!
