We didn't know what was wrong her. She was perfectly healthy. Exercised daily, ate healthy , didn't drink or smoke. All of a sudden in January her hands and feet started to swell. Her Doctor miss diagnosed her for six months and gave her all sorts of pain medication. By July her immune system was shot. She had pneumonia, limes disease from someones dog who had been camping and 48 other diseases. She collapsed in my arms. My dad and I took her to Mercy General. Dr. Barger was the Rheumatologist doing rounds. When he saw my mother 5"3 and 100 pounds, frail and weak. He just shook his head. She was put on the morphine drip because she was in so much pain. Dr. Barger kept having tests run, determined to see what was wrong with her. After much medication and over 3 weeks in the hospital in the Cancer and Special Disease unit. She was released only to be rushed back by ambulance 6 hours later. She then spent another two weeks in the hospital. Dr. Barger came to see her like clock work every day with a human kind of compassion that most Doctors don't have. He never rushed out of the room. He acted as if she was in his primary care. He was relentless in finding out what was wrong with her. Every disease was treated. He diagnosed her with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, which at the time was unheard of. She changed primary Care Physicians just so that Dr. Barger could be her Rheumatologist. The primary care physician was a jerk, but she would see Dr. Barger immediately after seeing him, so she endured the primary care physician. She hated seeing the Primary Care Physician, but loved seeing Dr. Barger, She saw him for six years. My dad normally took her to see him. The main thing that my mother would say about him is "He Cares and it's genuine". She always felt better after seeing Dr. Barger. My dad even liked him. Unfortunately she had to get a new Primary Care Physician because the Primary care doctor who is not worth mentioning would have put her in the grave, but Dr. Michael Barger is a rare find and a one of a kind Doctor. If people mention or complain about him spending too much time with his patients. Please don't. He spends the time that is needed to make the patient better. He is a very good Doctor. I hope he does not change. My mom is healthy now and she and my dad still love Dr. Barger.

I am fortunate enough to have Dr Heather Davids for my pain specialist. She takes all the time I…read moreneed and listens, intently, when I explain my pain. She reviews labs, X-rays, and my MRI to see, exactly, what is involved and what is causing my pain. She is very knowledgable about different modalities of treatment and presents them with understanding and precision. I, recently, went to her office, but on the way, google maps took to the wrong place. I had parked my car and after walking 3 blocks, I realized I was in the wrong place. I was 10 minutes away from my appointment time. Walking is painful for me, (part of the reason I see Dr Davids) so it took me awhile to get back to my car. By that time I was 2 minutes late. I called the office to let them I was close and that I would be there soon. They told me they would see me soon. Through 2 or 3 more unfortunate actions on my part, I found my self looking for the wrong office number and was instructed by a worked to go to the next building. To make a very long story no longer, I called the office at 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment, crying, and Sandra answered the phone. She had me describe to her where I was, asked what I was wearing and said she would come get me. Soon Sandra was walking me to the office. She reassured me that everything was ok and that Dr Davids would see me soon. That was 30 minutes after my appointment time. They had accommodated my lateness by seeing patients that were already there so I could be seen when I finally arrived. She brought me water, and reassured me everything was ok. When Dr Davids came in she was so kind and gentle and she told me it had worked out and that she was glad to see me. We had a wonderful conversation and she was very through in her assessment of my needs. I felt cared for and it was such a positive experience-one I will never forget. Being an RN that has worked in the medical field, for 35 years, I know a good quality healthcare provider whan I experience one. Dr Davids and her staff are the best! Thank you, Dr Davids and Sandra and the staff for making this very stressful event so much better than it started out to be.

The CA medical board represents the epitome of dysfunctional, indifferent bureaucracy. Our dismal…read moreexperience was consistent with the majority of reviews here (which are negative). The board is so ineffectual that it is a disgrace. When the medical system mistreats you, many people point you toward filing a complaint with the medical board as a sure-fire recourse. They don't seem to know that this experience, in a time of need and vulnerability, will likely only add insult to injury -- a followup punch in your gut. The Board fails to communicate in ways that would be so easy to remedy and make all the difference in the world. Our experience: A doctor willfully abandoned my wife during an emergency. Even the hospitals CMO said this was "eggregious abandonment." The case against the doctor is strong, but the Board sent a form letter denying my wife's board complaint. Additional info and a civil settlement warranted an appeal review of her complaint by the Board. The Board's utter lack of helpful info to guide lay-people (in combination with a lack of response from the Board to our diligent, repeated outreach) resulting in my wife effectively not being given a reasonable chance to file an workable appeal. This would be the typical result for most laypeople in her situation, and at no fault of hers. The Board could remedy this for future victims of this kind of willful physician abandonment -- and any other misbehavior of physicians -- VERY VERY EASILY with a little new language added to their form letter denying an appeal. The only responsive contact at the Board, a lawyer, agrees with all of the above (after I emailed a couple dozen back and forths with her). But that lawyer refuses after repeated inquiries to provide any sense that this little change will happen or when, even by any rough estimation. Just the runaround. We're trying to help for future victims. The bottom line is that the board does not give a damn.

He has this wall full of pictures of the patients he has had through the years. Hundreds! I still have ways to go. But with Dr. Weisner giving me care, I am sure I will be well enough in no time!
