I had no appointment, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes, and the staff was very kind. I wish I could remember the name of the man who helped me; he was working window 11 on Tuesday, July 21st. Shoutout to that guy, shoutout to the guy at the door telling people where to go based on the service they needed, and every other person working in this building that keeps it organized and moving along.

After scheduling my appointment I received a text message with the appointment confirmation of the date and time and a link that allowed me to check in online once I was there. I also received an email reminder. On the day of my appointment I drove into the parking lot, parked, clicked the link that was texted to me and I was checked in and received a DPS ticket number. I then walked in, waited in a line to speak with someone working at the desk. A friendly woman checked my documents, gave me some paperwork to fill out, and then told me to sit and wait in the waiting area. I sat at a table, filled out my paperwork and waited. I waited for about an hour and a half. During my wait several people that worked there came out and made announcements. They were there to help. When they finally called out my number I was relieved that the wait was over. The woman that was working behind the counter was friendly. She checked my documents, and then told me where to stand and took my photo. I paid, she gave me my paperwork and it was done. This process went really fast and took less than 10 minutes. Overall it wasn't a bad experience it was just very time consuming. The appointment time was at 10:40 and I left at 12:20. You will wait a long time before being seen but a positive is that everyone that worked there was friendly and helpful. A side note. Be sure to take hand sanitizer and some sanitizer wipes. I used the women's restroom and they were clean but they didn't have any soap in the dispenser and the large hand sanitizer bottle on the sink was empty. So take something with you to clean your hands just in case.

My appointment was at three, I arrived a few minutes early and was out of there around 4 o'clock. The clerk that assisted me was very helpful and friendly. It was an overall successful trip and some pretty good people watching while I waited.

I ask you for your phone number and give you a ticket number and you get a text immediately. Plenty of room in the waiting area as it's wide open. Your number is queued up on TV and their PA system is loud enough where you can hear your number called. Every person that I've dealt with here has been very nice and professional and patient and courteous. Even when I have had to ask questions, they know the answers immediately, which is great. It's pretty straightforward. I like this location much better than the Airport Blvd location as it's a much more pleasant visit. The previous place was somewhat cramped, it had a very small waiting area, and sometimes you had to stand. It was also very loud and when they called your number you had to go walk through the maze of cubicles, kind of like a labyrinth. I never had any issues finding where I needed to go, but this layout here is much better and wide open, which is probably one of the reasons why they moved here. I'm not a fan of their new website which seems cleaner and less jargon, but there's too many clicks to get to your destination. Plus, it's also not that intuitive as it looks. And I'm also not happy that the State is now charging a $4.75 "fee" to renew your registration online, otherwise this would be a 5-star review. I used to pay around $55 to renew car registration but now it's $76. That's Bologna. But the worker bees here don't set the prices so it's not their fault. They just take your money and then you hear a loud "cash register chime" (cha-Ching!) soon after. I was just kidding about that - lol.

I will not state the whole story except to add that Director of Housing Operations & Policy is fair & nice man. He admitted they are not perfect and make mistakes, but aim to fix & remedy issues. The State Capitol has a lot of great Texas history embedded in these walls and the floors of the building. It's hard to believe my older brother had never been to the State Capitol, so we decided to visit. He was in the military for 20 years mostly overseas so we extend grace. The Texas State Capitol is one of Austin's most important landmarks. The building was completed in 1888 and houses the Texas Legislature and the Governor's offices. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark. Interestingly,, the Capitol is taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
